INFP "Vibe" Moodboards Pt 1: Fairy Grunge Aesthetic

I had a really cool idea which was basically to make moodboards with different aesthetics that had "INFP vibes." Disclaimer this is purely for fun and based on how I personally feel lol.

I picked fairy grunge because I feel like the fairycore aesthetic is very INFP in itself ("fairy" is also one of the INFP archetypes if you recall—it's okay if you don’t tho bc I didn’t really talk about it lmao). The grunge aspect also adds that darker, mysterious side a lot of INFPs have as well but a lot of people do tend to overlook that. So yea! All images are from Pinterest btw.

In Honor of National Poetry Month...

This is a Sylvia Plath appreciation post!

As you all may or may not know already—April is National Poetry Month, so I decided why not take this opportunity to talk about acclaimed poet Sylvia Plath. She's one of my favorites, and many people also agree she was an INFP! How cool is that? Her work is amazing, and she's inspired many other artists like Lana Del Rey. I have yet to read The Bell Jar still, but for now I'll talk about my favorite poems of hers: "Mirror" and "Mad Girl's Love Song."

Mirror

What I love about this poem the most would definitely be the imagery, because it's so beautiful. I also like how she compares the pink speckled wall to her heart. Overall my favorite lines are "Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me, Searching my reaches for what she really is." These lines really just speak to me, because I love how she's describing herself as a mirror in the way other people look into it. I also really like the imagery of the lake. To me it was unexpected, but clever. Like she's not a physical mirror but the lake is also a mirror by definition because it also reveals your reflection if you look at the surface.

Mad Girl's Love Song

I love this poem for the same reason I love Mirror: the imagery haha. And honestly literally every about it just sticks with me. Also this poem is really relatable to me lol. When she said "I think I made you up inside my head" it really hit hard cus a lot of times I also question if I'm really in love with someone or if I'm in love with the romanticized version of them in my head.

What's the main purpose of this blog?

This blog mostly focuses on INFP related content. I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to typology, so I mainly just focus on INFPs in my posts. It made the most sense to me because it's my own type, so obviously I have the most knowledge on it lol. Of course, anyone can enjoy this blog if they want! Not just INFPs!

Why did I create this blog?

I’ve had an interest in typology for a while. I think my main goal was just to create fun content for myself and others to enjoy. I've always wanted see more of this kind of content when it comes to mbti, because a lot of people take it too seriously imo. I see a lot of people using typology to dictate their entire views on themselves and other people, and while I have a huge interest in psychology, using mbti to form your opinions on other is no better than using astrology to do so. Mbti is a pseudoscience anyway, so this blog is really just meant to be fun!

🌙 Typology Journey ☁️

How'd I get into mbti? Well basically it all started one day in 5th grade. I was bored and procrastinating classwork lol. I've always enjoyed taking tests that analyze your personality (like the uquiz ones), and so I googled "personality tests." Then sure enough I came across 16p, and my obsession with typology began. I got INFP-A the first time, and I've gotten INFP-T ever since. I sent the test to like everyone I knew cus I wanted to compare results w them, and I got really into mbti skits and youtubers (basically Frank James lmao).

Then a couple years later I discovered PDB (Personality Database) after looking up "infp fictional characters" or something like that. I then found out that 16p wasn't super accurate or something, because they typed people by letters and not the cognitive functions. I actually had no idea what they were and why they were important, or why letter typing was "less accurate." It turns out letter-typing is frowned upon and seen as less accurate by like half the community because the cognitive functions were actually part of the original theory. I learned that the letters are basically just an oversimplified version of the actual functions in order to help beginners understand better, but when you type someone you don’t actually ask if they're more introverted or extroverted and what not.

Anyway now back to the important stuff lol.

I was one of the lucky people who was actually typed correctly by PDB. I took more "accurate" tests like Sakinorva and Keys2Cog, but I still got INFP even then. I even read more about the functions and my type online through my own research, after I found out that even the more "accurate" tests weren't always reliable. I also asked a few of my friends I met through PDB, who understood mbti better than I did, and asked them. Pretty much everyone said I was an INFP, so there was that.

As for enneagram, I just took a test and got 2w1. I didn't have as much knowledge on enneagram, so I went with that. Then when I asked people what they thought for my enneagram, a few people said 4w5, and once again I didn't question it. As for my tritype and ivs those were pretty easy to figure out with some explanation, and I went with 496.

But for a while I always found myself relating to the 9 traits more than 4 traits, especially sx 9. And a lot of people actually agreed with me, some said my 9 traits were too strong to only be one of my fixes, so then I typed as INFP 9w1 for a while.

And then, pretty recently I found out that was actually impossible. As you may know, not all type combinations are possible—and that includes INFPs and 9s. At first I thought people were being stupid and over-exaggerating, how would their traits contradict? But then I eventually found out that most "INFP 9s" are actually 6s, because 6s and 9s look very similar— especially sp 6s. So yea now I'm officially INFP 6w5! I basically ended up switching around my tritype order a bunch of times lol

As for the other parts of my typology, like socionics. I didn't really put much effort into that lol. I can somewhat understand mbti and enneagram, but I barely understand anything else. So once again I asked other people what they thought and pretty much everyone agreed on EII, and that was it!

"The INFP Archetypes"

What makes INFPs different from each other? Well there are many factors. Obviously not all INFPs are the same, and other parts of typology like enneagram, ivs, and socionics do affect this. Some INFPs are also more in tune with their weaker functions (Si and Te) than others. Like the other types, INFPs also have different "archetypes" that are often seen as "general representations" of them. Obviously because mbti is so nuanced and complex, don't fret if you don't identify with any of these! They're very simplified, so not relating doesn’t mean you're not an INFP!

So now let's get into some of the most notable archetypes

1. The Dreamer

The most notable INFP archetype, one could call it "the INFP poster child." The dreamer is a pure, innocent, curious, sensitive, and idealistic INFP. The dreamer looks at the world with wide, starry-eyes, and wears their heart on their sleeve. Usually the dreamer is also very romantic poetic, and/or artistic, and they have a wild imagination. The dreamer sees the good in everyone and might often merge with/be present in tropes like the manic pixie dream girl, or the soft boy. They have a tendency to be portrayed as mysterious or misunderstood.

Examples of the dreamer: Belle (Beauty & the Beast), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Amelie, Juliet (Romeo & Juliet), Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables), and Celine (Before Trilogy)

2. The Mediator

The mediator shares the same traits as the dreamer (pure, sensitive, kind-hearted, etc.) but plays a different role in the story. Typically the dreamers are protagonists, while mediators usually have secondary roles. The mediator often acts as a voice of reason, to keep the protagonist in touch with their humanity or to just listen whenever someone needs to let it all out. The mediator is typically very quirky and non-conformist. The mediator is empathetic and usually soften-spoken, but they're not afraid to stand up for others or what they believe in.

Examples of the mediator: Silvermist (Tinkerbell), Mantis (MCU), Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter), Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon), and Lucy Pevensie (Narnia)

3. The Seeker

The seeker, once again, shares the same traits as the other two but has an emphasis on curiosity and imagination. The seeker is not afraid to ponder life's deeper, more complex questions.

As said by @dragonflymage, the seeker often asks themselves questions like

Why do I exist?

Who am I really inside?

How do I fit?

Where do I belong?

They also go on to add this explanation: "A seeker, continuously looking for answers that we never may find, but that we must keep searching for anyway. "

(If you wanna read more from her post I've reblogged it on my page) While they search for these answers, the seeker oftentimes will go on a "hero's journey" in hopes of finding the answer along their quest

Examples of the seeker: Merlin (BBC), Newt Scamander (Fantastic Beasts/HP), Luke Skywalker (Star Wars), Edward Scissorhands, and Frodo (LOTR)

4. The Emotional Villain

As you can see this one is a complete 180 compared to the other three lol. This pattern doesn't exactly have a name, so I just made one up.

Pretty much all INFP villains I've seen are driven by their emotions. Afterall, Fi is our dominant function. The emotional villain is driven by personal reasons and experiences, they're not just evil for the sake of being evil. Typically the emotional villain is very moody, disturbed, and/or unstable. They are usually the direct opposite of their other INFP counterparts: they are selfish, ruthless, and blood-hungry.

Examples of the emotional villain: Wanda Maximoff (MCU), Joker (2019 ver), and Kylo Ren (Star Wars).

5. The Angsty Teen

Another really common portrayal of INFPs in media is the angsty teen. This archetype is pretty self explanatory, an angsty hormonal teenager. The angsty teen often struggles with social anxiety, and/other another mental illness. They also might have trust issues, be really moody, or hurting from unrequited love or some other trauma. The angsty teen often copes through artistic means, like poetry or painting.

I feel the feelings on this archetype are very divided. While a lot of people don't like having that image as a representation of their type, some argue that it's a realistic portrayal of the darker side of being an INFP. I personally feel like the angsty teen represents my inner conflicts, while the dreamer, mediator, and seeker represent my outward behavior most of the time. What are your thoughts?

Examples of the angsty teen: Shinji Ikari (Evangelion), Will Byers (Stranger Things), Cassie Ainsworth (Skins), Kou Mabuchi (Blue Spring Ride), Violet Parr (The Incredibles), Nico di Angelo (Percy Jackson), Charlie Kelmeckis (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Elio Perlman (Call Me By Your Name), Todd Anderson (Dead Poets Society), Fischl (Genshin Impact), Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice) and Cry Baby (K-12)

There's plenty more archetypes but I thought I'd just focus on these 5. Also remember that these archetypes don't represent all INFPs as a whole, they’re just like "INFPs in a nutshell."

I had to look up Archetype because I wasn’t sure if I knew quite enough about it to answer.

I came across this page Archetype - Examples and Definition of Archetype that describes Archetypes in literature, which is what I was more accustomed to seeing. An archetype as a universal symbol or original pattern.

Such as, in writing characters, there might be “the hero”, “the mother figure”, “the villain”, and so on. And each of these creates a fairly well-known image of what they represent.

There are also archetypes in psychology. The 12 Jungian Archetypes - which remind me of tarot cards. In that sense, this is what the MBTI types are, another sort of Archetype naming. This is why it works so well to find where we belong within it.

So thinking about what I’ve read, now I’m trying to put together a list for INFP archetypes. I assume this means finding the metaphor or example that matches all that an INFP represents. I may need to list a few to represent different aspects of an INFP.

I found these INFP archetypes online, such as:

Mediator

Dreamer

Fairy

Healer

Seeker

Waif

Empath

Angsty Teen

Each does seem to fit various aspects of what it’s like to be an INFP.

If I had to choose just one from that list, I’d choose The Seeker.

INFP Personality Type: The Creative Seeker has some of my favorite INFP descriptions.

“INFPs’ seeking impetus is informed and perpetuated by their critical observations of society and culture. They often see themselves as characteristically different from, or at odds with, their surrounding culture, sometimes feeling like outsiders or misfits. They can be wary of “conventional wisdom” and societal prescriptions, preferring instead to forge their own unique path.”

“As INFPs proceed in their search for self, they eventually stumble onto something that deeply moves or inspires them.”

“…their seeking is at least as much about the journey as it is the destination.”

I have felt that as an INFP, I am on a constant journey to find answers.

Why do I exist?

Who am I really inside?

How do I fit?

Where do I belong?

Those questions are part of what it means to me to be an INFP. A seeker, continuously looking for answers that we never may find, but that we must keep searching for anyway. 💗

As per request here we have a few INFP x INFP couples lol. I did some quick googling and didn’t find that many lol, but I actually have a couple of iconic ones you may or may not know of.

So on the list:

Romeo and Juliet (1996 ver pictured 1st, 1968 ver pictured 2nd)

Classic Shakespeare lol. The 1996 ver stars Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes and the 1968 ver stars Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting. Some reviews online say the 1968 version is better because it was more accurate to the story, but other reviews say that the 1996 version is more romantic. I've only seen clips of the 1996 film in class so I can’t really compare the two. However the 1996 version is supposed to be a more modern take on Romeo and Juliet. West Side Story (2021 and 1961)

Speaking of modern adaptations, West Side Story is a beautiful modern spin off of the Romeo and Juliet story. I've seen both the 1961 ver and the 2021 ver and I honestly love them both so much, and I will never shut up about how much I love the soundtrack. Heathers (Musical)

The movie and the musical are different, in the movie Veronica's an INFJ while JD is an ENTP, but in the musical they’re both INFPs lol.
