Wow, i really couldn’t just post art for long, eh. don’t worry, i’ll post something soon, but i need to say this. please take a few minutes to read it

I’m copy-pasting this from my twitter account because this is incredibly important

For anyone not in the know, IA aka http://archive.org is probably the largest current archive and public library of content in the world. they contain and lend out PETABYTES of data of anything ranging from radio, to movies, to music, to books, even games

They also run something you've very likely heard of: the wayback machine. it lets you go back in time to old snapshots of websites you can use it to see things that have been deleted, lost to server shutdowns, and in general anything from the past of the internet

They got sued by greedy fucking book publishers who had a perfectly straightforward case under the current cancerous copyright law the US forces everyone else to follow. they won. if there's anything you take out of this thread let it be this: DONATE TO THE ARCHIVE. THEY NEED IT

This lawsuit was a surgically targeted attempt to bankrupt IA. They want to take down the largest public library in the world, which contains terabytes upon terabytes of information so obscure probably no one else wants to archive it, but it is nonetheless incredibly important

The IA being gone could, possibly, be as terrible as the fire of the library of Alexandria, or many times worse. we don't know, but we do know we will lose a monumental amount of culture from centuries of our history

And the worst victim of a possible IA bankruptcy would be the Wayback Machine. there are years and terabytes of important internet history, of which probably 99% only exists on IA's servers.

The Wayback Machine being gone would mean that pretty much the final say of most things in the 21st century would fall on the corporations that control the platforms on which it is hosted Corporations who have proven to subvert the public good for profit

Those BLM protests going on right now? if google, facebook, and twitter wanted to, they could ERASE 90% of any proof of anything that ever happened from future history if the IA didn't exist, so it is VITALLY IMPORTANT to the future of our society we support their efforts

Understand that for any functional democratic society to exist, the people need to have access to the information they need to decide on the issues they are asked to think about. Freedom of information is a basic human right, let's protect it.

Hachette, Penguin Random House, Wiley, and HarperCollins are the publishers behind this. Boycott them.
