I just put out my third record. It's terrifying and I'm really bad at promoting/releasing stuff, but I love creating and I'm glad I've created 10 more sad songs for sad people. If you come across this post, check me out and maybe give my sad songs a chance in your playlist lol.

As much fun as Spotify Wrapped is and as convenient as Spotify is as a service, it's also really important to put some money and effort into supporting artists directly! Especially if you're listening to indie artists or bands who aren't just Top 40 hit makers - buy digital downloads on Bandcamp if you can, go to shows and purchase merch, or buy merch and physical media off the official stores of the artists you like.
Spotify is great for discovering bands and giving you access to a huge library, but it absolutely doesn't pay the bills for most artists. If you love music and you're able, try to do more than just streaming your favorite songs all year

Considering yourself an artist, being a songwriter, is an interesting thing. I think when I started doing this I just wanted to make stuff, and I still do, but I've also been indoctrinated into this idea that I need to be striving to be part of the machine. If I made it I probably would never be satisfied. I wrote this song about that feeling of indoctrination, the stockholm syndrome of hoping I am recognized. Shouldn't it be enough to just do it for me?

I write sad songs, this is one of my favourites I wrote in 2019. It's a song I still sing to myself when I'm anxious. The weather has sucked and it's brought me comfort that I took those emotions and turned them into something constructive. I still try to do that.
