The way she says this, almost like she's relieved to say it, "He was a good Master." like all those years she spent still loving him, still unable to let him go, still remembering the kind things, she wasn't wrong. We've seen how much Ahsoka doubted herself throughout this series, especially when it comes to trying to resolve her feelings about Anakin and what he did. That she had to work to accept that he became Vader, that he murdered their family and friends, that he took the light of the Jedi out of the galaxy, that he went on to kill so many more, to help an Empire that slaughtered its way through countless lives. And through all of that, part of her felt so guilty because she couldn't stop remembering the kind things he did, too. "What would have surprised people was how kind he was," she said to Ezra, mere days before they confronted Vader on Malachor, where he was serious about killing all of them, killing her. That there was no reaching him, no matter how badly she wanted to. But still she loved him. She couldn't stop loving him and it tore her up because she couldn't let him go, this man who chose to become the worst monster. And then he came to her in a Force vision, when she was ready to hear him, to really listen to him, and he told her that she's more than just a warrior, just as he's more than that, that he's more than Vader. They're everything of the Masters that came before them and more. So, now she can remember the good things he did without having to immediately remember Vader. She can remember, yes, he was a good Master to her, that his teachings helped shape her life into something good and worthwhile, that she can still play the holos he made for her when she needs to settle her mind before a fight. She can remember that she loved Anakin Skywalker and that he was a good Master without having to tear herself apart because of Vader and her inability to stop loving him. He's more than Vader, he was also a good Master and that's just as true as everything else about him. Him believing in her and encouraging her isn't a sign that she's going down the same path as he is, it's her Master being kind and supportive and good. And she is so relieved that her love for him wasn't mistaken, it wasn't misplaced, because this was real, he really was good to her and for her.

in light of this post by @incomingalbatross saying that we should write like ourselves:
... if we really want to write like Tolkien ... we shouldn’t specifically be trying to write like linguists, or historical experts, or veterans, or or or... We should try to write like people who’ve gathered all their favorite and most important things together, and are playing with the stuff those things are made of just for the joy of it. We need to write like ourselves.
let's make a little list of what makes our writing ours:
what's your Shire? as in: what's a place you remember fondly and love? (or: some place you hated, some place vivid to you, etc.)
what is your Hobbit culture? as in: values were you brought up in, culture you grew up with, etc.
who is your Tom Bombadil? as in: a character you loved as a child, in existence or from your imagination, a figure that took place in a lot of your play, etc.
what are your elves and dwarves? as in: something you studied or know a lot about, something you can geek out about, etc.
what are your middle earth languages? as in: something you have expertise in due to a career, a hobby, something you love, etc.
what are your themes? as in: something you've grown up knowing, like loss, something you know intimately, something you know because of your area/history/time/era, etc.
what is your moral of the story? as in: a guiding value, a life motto, faith/spirituality, etc.
To close, a quote from that same post:
What makes [Middle-Earth] good is that every element that went into it was an element J. R. R. Tolkien knew and loved and understood. He brought it out of his scholarship and hobbies and life experience and ideals, and he wrote the story no one else could have written... And did it so well that other people have been trying to write it ever since.

I think my biggest problem right now is that the way Sabine’s story progressed and ended made enough sense for Ahsoka Sabine, but feels deeply unfitting for Rebels Sabine, not in a “she’s changed and grown since then” way but in a “this is a different character” way, and I think a lot of that is centered on the decision to make her a jedi.
From her first appearance in Rebels, Sabine is competent, strong-willed, and determined to fight for what she believes is right. As we go through the show, we learn more about where that came from. It’s pretty clear that she considers the Ghost crew family, and that she found new hope and meaning in working with them, as well as that her Mandalorian heritage is a huge part of how she was shaped into the person she is. Furthermore, we see that she’s driven by the need to make amends for her past mistakes, to protect her loved ones where she previously helped put them in danger, albeit without intending to.
When Kanan trains Sabine with the Darksaber, we see that it doesn’t work well for her to train exactly like a Jedi, because she’s not using the saber as a Jedi, she’s using it as a Mandalorian. It is another weapon in her arsenal and, more importantly, a symbol that she can use to help bring her people together—and she uses it to do so.
Sabine’s arc is so cool and so special to me because her path as both a character and a member of the rebellion are just as important as Ezra’s: she is given depth and interests, and the fact that she isn’t a Jedi doesn’t make them worth any less.
A prime example of this is Sabine’s art. It’s a BIG part of her self-expression throughout Rebels. It’s a connection with her family, a way to express herself and commemorate moments, and—in the most Mandalorian move possible—a weapon she uses against the enemy, both symbolically via the symbol of the Rebellion and literally, through the use of explosive spray paint. And sometimes this is played as a joke (think Sabjne painting the bunk crash on Zeb and Ezra’s wall) but it also legitimately comes into play (think Sabine interpreting the mural entrance to the world between worlds or Thrawn commenting on her art).
Rebels Sabine brings so much to the table, and there was so much in her character that could have been explored without making her a Jedi. Not everyone is a Jedi, and it’s good to remember that even heroes can be normal people who stepped up.

Dave Filoni made the same mistake they made in the Voyager finale.
Why do TV writers keep thinking that if they make a whole story about someone getting home the audience wants to see it end at the moment of physical arrival and not the emotional payoff? Home isn't about the place, it's about the people, that's the entire bloody theme of that kind of story!
So I don't know what TV writer needs to hear this, but if your desperate journey home story doesn't end with HUGGING, you are DOING IT WRONG.

Also denied the Ezra v Enoch smack down on the Star Destroyer with the evil clone reveal, but alas.
(I mean, it’s fan theory so it’s worthless/could be totally wrong, but if we’re doing Heir to the Empire here there’s got to be an evil clone of somebody and it probably ain’t gonna be Luke. How did Thrawn do it when his ship is in shambles and they’ve sort of established in the Shadow Council that cloning was Gideon’s thing not Thrawn’s? Dunno. 🤷‍♀️ But that name is waaay too similar to be a coincidence and also less silly than “Eezra/Ezraa”, though that similarity in itself could be just a tease/red herring.)

How I would’ve ended the Ezra and Hera reunion scene:
*they HUG*
Cut to the two of them walking towards the Ghost, all mother and son. Ezra looks up at it with a sense of homecoming. We hear footsteps clatter down the ramp and a kid’s voice call “Mom!” Jacen runs out and skids to a stop, looking at them with wide eyes. He’s smart, and he’s heard all the stories. “Are you Ezra?” he asks in a kind of awe.
Ezra, pretty quick himself, takes in the resemblance, the green hair, the mark on the shoulder pauldron, maybe a hint of a familiar presence… We see it in his face as he puts the pieces together. He glances from Hera back to the kid and now it’s his face that looks awed as he realizes who this must be.
And… cut.
(Maybe a line about “I really did miss a lot, huh?”/“Sabine left out a few things.”)
(I would obviously prefer an extended scene with more dialogue, but if we’re absolutely pressed for time then this would be the bare minimum must-have. Still, I’m grateful we got any kind of a reunion with Hera at all.)

Ezra building a new lightsaber with the matching piece to Kanan’s! Huyang talking about Kanan! 😭❤️ (was really excited for a second that we were gonna get a new blaster-saber though. Call it gimmicky but that thing was genuinely useful!)
Ezra showing off his skills. Little enough as we got of him, it just reinforced his character journey in Rebels and how much he grew and progressed from being so annoying to ‘yes! That’s our boy!’ And the comm and the armor. Classic Ezra, only missing an air vent crawl. Love him.
And so does Hera! Her space son has returned! SO WHY NO HUG, DAVE???!!😭😤Come on! It’s a streaming show; there are no limits on runtime. Would another thirty seconds to a minute have been too much to ask? It’s gonna be years! We need to see him meet Jacen before that kid actor gets too old!
Also loved the trio fighting their way through, which just highlighted how great Ezra is at teamwork (those last two seasons of Rebels are just great with the way he and Kanan and also he and Sabine just work together like a well oiled machine). And the Force throw echo was great (although uh, Sabine? You just figured out how to pick up a lightsaber two seconds ago, so throwing a person might be a bit overly ambitious? I mean it worked out, and trust in the Force and all, but still)
Sad that Baylan’s story is really only just beginning. 😔 Was hoping for a full resolution for him this season. I guess they’ll have to recast bc I don’t see how they could abandon that plot line at this point.
I’d say that was an issue with the show itself, that it’s mostly all setup and moved very slowly in the first half without actually using that time to really give us information that we needed to know. Important backstory was revealed in vague shreds when there was really no reason for the mystery. Even in Rebels, Sabine has always suffered from delayed-backstory-itis, with the details of her family and her time at the Academy not being shared until the Darksaber arc in S3. That was even more true here. She seemed off to me, and we got only cryptic hints about everything that had happened post-Rebels until the VERY LAST EPISODE. Turns out she has a very good reason for being a different Sabine than we remembered! I get wanting to have Ezra hear it, but the audience needed to know first! And same goes for the whole master/apprentice thing with Ahsoka. They had barely interacted before and then we’re TOLD that there’s this whole relationship there that came sort of out of nowhere. Some things we need to SEE.
Episode 5 was definitely the highlight. Not perfect but hitting SO many of the right notes. Clone Wars, Rebels. *chef’s kiss*
Overall, there were lots of great individual moments in this show and the second half was much better than the first, but as a whole it could’ve been better.
A Hayden cameo is always a joy. Love that he’s getting to do this.
