Photographer in the making

During the summer (2017) I had another go at Portrait and Street Photography. Whilst roaming the streets of London, returning to Shoreditch & Peckham. I felt much more confident with my camera (Canon 1300d). I knew what I wanted from the photo and paid closer attention to the composition of my Subject. Here are some of the best ones taken below.

I was out with my Beautiful Model Temi and she had a lot of patience with me gave me some amazing photos. Street Photography , The outdoors, calm and natural environments has always been my focal enjoyment and norm when it comes to the background of my subjects.

The cool tones of the street art compliments every skin tone. Its the rich celebration of Colour that I love.

I’m not complacent and there is always room for improvement. Back to the drawing board with these.

We also visited Tate Modern to see an exhibition called ‘Soul of a nation’. It was Incred, I was extremely impressed on Exhibition as a whole and enjoyed there deliverance on topics sensitive to society. E.g. Civil Rights movements. History of Blacks people’s struggle to Freedom and a voice in America specifically.

Where to begin….. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept and outcomes of Polaroid camera. It’s more of the nostalgia that attracts me as,its dominant features. Seeing it in films as a child and throughout my life so far, it pins points memories in my life. The features it harbours are great (I’m not only saying that as an artist) But as an individual who loves creating memories with loved ones and documenting pieces of my life.

When unboxing the package instantly in the box it includes the; Camera body, Zoom close up lens cap, hand strap, AA batteries x 2, Instax min stickers x 2, the instruction manual. All wrapped in bubble wrap for protection.

Manufacturer’s notes

“For use with credit card sized instax mini film only. High picture quality and simple operation by automatic film feed. Easy to carry pop up type collapsible lens. Simple exposure Adjustment by adjusting the dial. No need to manually focus for clear images, Automatic flash. Built in lens cover focusing from 60cm. (from 35cm to 50cm) with close up lens attachment and selfie mirror”.

When using this camera please be aware that the mechanisms of this camera requires a lot of light (Sunlight/ Artificial) for the outcome to be amazing and for all facial features to be displayed.

When taking a photo, it takes up to a 1 – 2 minutes for the film to develop so please be patient and don’t touch while it takes time to develop. (as this could ruin the outcome)

The Camera body is super smooth so please at all times attach a hand strap so it doesn’t slip or fall out your hands.

There’s a setting for each mood. Sunlight, Cloudy, Indoors. (with that being said you still need a good light source)

Cons * Slow performance (due to nature of camera) * Doesn’t perform well in the dark * Only works well in light settings * Runs on AA batteries as opposed to camera battery * Film is pricey * Only one type of film should be used for camera * Due to nature, it obviously doesn’t work as a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) *Can easily slip if hand strap isn’t attached * Photo can be ruined if touched instantly

I’ve experienced a few flaws when using this camera such as it doesn’t perform well in the dark (even with a flash) Below are a few examples.

Also It doesn’t respond well to excess direct sun light

All in all, you do get what you expect a Polaroid to do. Specifically, with the Instax Mini 9 it’s the easiest Polaroid to use. One button to release the lens another button to take the photo. SNAP SNAP.

PLEASE READ:

Please be aware that the camera doesn’t come with Film. You must purchase this separately. (Only one type of film should be used for camera; Fujifilm Instax Mini Film Pack) Also, the film comes in a range of colours, designs and patterns for you to choose from, have fun selecting these.

The only way to “get comfortable and confident” is to keep shooting. It may seem like a waste of some film but you’ll learn quite a bit in a very short time.

Stumbled across this Gallery

Mid March – April this year 2017, Whilst lost trying to find my way to Fenwicks on Bond Street.

I was impressed, seems like their style is more to do with a mix Sculptures and Pop Art. They were heavily involved in animation and the sculptures looked like a lot of craftsmanship and skill had been invested into the outcomes. It focused on Political Art aswell, another interesting dwelling point and I must emphasise the beauty of theses sculptures.

Most Galleries I’ve visted weren’t this empty or as glossy maybe because it was new or the art work new Who knows .

I loved everything about , maybe more because i discovered this place by accident.
