Everyone saying "yeah this is the only movie where the strawhats fought alongside each other as a team" or "this is where they represent DnD group the most" but not enough saying about how it's the only time they'd let anyone OTHER THAN THEIR OWN CAPTAIN to command them to do things. WITHOUT EVEN COMPLAINING.
Only you, Koby, beloved old friend (if not the dearest)

Simultaneously wanting Law to join the Straw Hats (because it makes a lot of narrative sense for him to join) and desperately not wanting Law to join the Straw Hats (because it makes a lot of narrative sense for him to be Luffy's foil).

There is a One Piece cookbook.
They have the recipe for the Seafood Fried Rice dish Sanji made Gin.
The recipe does not contain seafood.

My GinSan obsession is getting out of hand. It's a fire that burns. And then poofs into nothing because there's so little fanwork for it. And then roars back to life at my musings. And then poofs into nothing.
Either way I'm obsessed. *sigh*
I'll try to spread it out in my queue since I have set it to only one post a day but yeah...

the fanon that dick was awful to his successors — being abusive to jason or mean to tim — is very funny to me because he categorically handled being replaced better than either of them did

"They exist to be the person who can always save people. modern comics are moving away from this idea." - VERY important to highlight.
I also have lots of thoughts about WHY modern comics (and modern media) in general are moving away from "Killing People Bad". It felt like it started off because introducing a "hey, what if-?" and subversion to tropes is what keeps genres interesting and common thing in storytelling within the same genre (stories generally strive to be different to each other even if it is only in the details) and slowly morphed into a desperation and/or laziness in creating that shock factor with a death.
But more and more, it feels like a frustration with global decrease of living conditions and this twisted belief that if only *specific people* died then the world will be a better place and we'll all suffer less.
That and also as a vehicle to cope with grief of experience death of loved ones.
No Bruce is not "fine with being friends with people who kill all the time"
1) if you're referring to Diana she doesn't kill people all the time, she only kills in very extreme circumstances when she's forced to bc theres no other option, and it's only happened like three times total
2) Bruce very much is not fine with it when Diana kills. When she killed Maxwell Lord, it was written for the sole purpose of breaking up the Trinity for Infinity Crisis drama reasons, and Diana killing was chosen because Bruce (and Clark) would not be fine with it. At all
3) if you're referring to Ghostmaker, Bruce also isn't fine with him killing people and tries to stop him
4) if you're referring to Oliver Queen, they're not friends
5) if you're referring to Talia, Bruce also isn't fine with her killing people, and continuously has conflict with her about it
6) if you're referring to Helena, they're not friends and also Bruce treats her almost worse than Jason
7) if you're referring to Jim Gordon, Bruce still isn't fine with it, but also the copganda around him kinda makes consistent moral characterization a lost cause for Bruce in relation to him
8) I know you're not referring to Clark because nobody making this argument actually reads super comics let alone 80s super comics so none of you know about the Zod storyline, but Bruce didn't even know about that therefore its irrelevant
9) in case you might be referring to Harvey, Bruce also hasn't been friends with him since he became Two Face
10) I can't think of any others right now but whoever you're thinking of I can guarantee that if Bruce knows they killed someone and thinks its possible to influence them, there has been a storyline about him disapproving of them killing
11) if you're referring to Harley Quinn for some reason, they also are not friends
Like I dont get where you're coming from and also Bruce Wayne is very much not fine with his friends killing people

I have re-read the Baratie arc for like the hundreth time and I have decided that I will fully enter denial.
Gin's not dead. He finds a way to survive somehow. His crew probably had an antidote. He hasn't had any cover stories because he's going to do something important at the end. *sob*
In fact, he's the 10th Straw Hat and he's going to be their Battle Commander who gives directions to the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

It is heavily implied that Gin is repeatedly holding back in his fight against Sanji and also the real strength behind the Don Krieg pirates.
He oneshots Pearl by breaking through the armour. And given how much of Don Krieg's power is dependent on his armour, I feel like Gin can probably oneshot Don Krieg too.
I personally interpret that he's one of the strongest pirates (if not THE strongest pirate) in the East Blue and the actual strongest in their crew, but no one knows this because even he himself believed Don Krieg to be the strongest.
My headcanon is that Don Krieg used to be stronger than Gin, but Gin improved by becoming the Don's attack dog.
Hard to say for post-timeskip, since Gin didn't even get any cover stories so he's probably actually dead (*sob* I will continue to hope he'll show up again one day), but there is no doubt in my mind that Gin is supposed to be stronger than Sanji during the Baratie arc.
I don't know if he'd beat Luffy, since he clearly has no experience with Devil Fruit users and his weapons (tonfa and gun) are a bad match up against Luffy's powers. But physically he's likely superior at this stage in their journey.
One of the Straw Hats strength is that they improved in skills by leaps and bounds within a very short timeframe because of the challenges they faced.
Gin, on the other hand, is set up as an experienced pirate and fighter. I genuinely think he's stronger than Arlong and that his main weakness is his mentality, his perception of himself, and his misplaced loyalty in Don Krieg.
So I’m rereading One Piece *coughcough* again *coughcough* and I realize Sanji doesn’t technically defeat Gin. Gin just can’t finish him off. And then Krieg sets off the MH5.
