Friendly reminder that DC Comics themselves are - in fact - a series of officially licensed fanfictions. Are Bob Crane and Bill Finger still writing Batman? I don't think so. How many different writers have written under that title in the last, oh, fifty years? Each writer looks at what's come before them, punts on the things they don't like or care about and doubles-down on the stuff they do. For god sake, how many times have characters died and then the next writer in line is like "actually, that's my emotional support blorbo and i'm bringing them back, and you can't stop me". How many times has some big, comic wide event happened and then ten years later someone is like "yeah, might've bitten off more than we can chew with that" and then retcons the hell out of everything. Not to mention Elseworlds and all that implies. All comics in DC and Marvel are fanfiction and have been for a really, really, long time. So kindly untwist yourselves, people.

I love the posts that are like "Well this is very clearly the canon but y'all are So Desperate to ignore canon and warp it to whatever fantasy you have for these characters." Like yeah. That's what fandom is. That's what most fan-fiction is built around. The DC fandom specifically is basically built on picking and choosing which comics you personally feel in your heart are canon. That's the fun of it. "Y'all love to ignore some things just to make your character dynamics work." Yes. Yeah that's the point. Correct.
