Day 4 - Nightmares

A.N. Have some more fluff guys :)

The room is too dark, Sora swears he can see yellow eyes glowing at him. His sleep has been fitful, his most recent nightmare one Sora knows will haunt him for a long time.

His bed is a mess, sheets mostly on the floor, his pillow across the room. The thudding in his chest matches the pounding in his ears, his breath too quick to be relaxed. The room feels too big, too devoid of life. Pure darkness. He needs to leave.

His footsteps are soft as he travels down the hallway, not knowing where he’s going until he’s there. And he feels silly, almost deciding not to knock.

Riku’s had his fair share of darkness too, he knows that. More than Sora. At least he didn’t turn into Ansem when all other choices seemed hopeless. He knows that darkness better than anyone. Nightmares almost every night, cold sweats and shivers.

That’s why he feels the need to apologise almost as soon as Riku opens the door, eyes unusually bright for someone who should have been asleep.

“Hey,” Sora starts, rubbing at his arm sheepishly. “Sorry, it’s late but-” He gets pulled into the room, flush against Riku as the taller boy hugs him tightly.

“You too, huh?” Riku murmurs against Sora’s ear. Sora nods, wrapping his arms around Riku. They stay there, in the single beam of moonlight that illuminates Riku’s room, Sora feeling himself calm down. Riku pulls him gently towards the bed, wrapping them both up in blankets until they’re nestled in warmth and comfort. Sora lays his head on Riku’s chest, rising and falling with every breath.

“It’s not going to get any easier, is it?” Sora says quietly, looking up at Riku. The boy shakes his head, smoothing a hand over Sora’s messy spikes of hair.

“I don’t think it does, no. But it is a little better when you’re here,” he says, smiling softly. “As long as we’re together we can protect each other against the darkness, don’t you think?”

Sora nods with a sigh. “Yeah. Just tell me when you need help and I’ll swoop in with my keyblade.” He laughs, Riku joining him.

“Me too. So as long as we can protect each other, we’ll be alright. I’m your dream eater, remember?”

“And I’ll be yours too.” Sora rubs noses with Riku before settling down again, feeling safer already in the twilight.
