FACT #38
In the original version of Sonic the Fighters, data can be found in the game’s files for a nearly-completed but ultimately-scrapped character called Honey the Cat. Honey would eventually become playable in the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network ports of Sonic the Fighters! She can be selected by moving the cursor over Amy in the Character Select Screen and pressing the Start Button. Honey is directly based off of Honey from Fighting Vipers, the origin and direct inspiration of Sonic the Fighters (Sonic the Fighters is, basically, a stripped-down and wackier version of Fighting Vipers, which was developed by the same studio: SEGA AM2, who also developed Virtua Fighter and Daytona).

Two distinctive samples from the Sonic series - the “Get Down!” sample from Sonic CD’s Stardust Speedway and the whispered “slam” sample from Sonic Adventure 2′s “Masters of the Desert” (the King Boom Boo and Egg Golem boss fight theme) - are used in the ending credits theme to the arcade version of the first Virtua Fighter. All three of these SEGA-developed games like pull from the same sample packs (”Get Down” comes from Masterbits RAPsody).
(mad respect to Evan Prower and his amazing video on Sonic and SEGA samples for discovering this great fact.)

Parts of E-105 Zeta's metallic framing are made up of SEGA Dreamcast models present within the game's files. The Dreamcasts can be seen on all versions of the game, implying that Zeta, at least partially, runs on Dreamcast technology. This can be seen in Gamma’s version of Hot Shelter.

Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast ver.) had its very own webpage.  Accessible through the game itself, it allowed the user to race in the World Rankings, go to the Chao Daycare, race Chao in the Chao Fun Room, download gifts to your VMU (the Dreamcast memory card), and race in downloadable events. A chatroom also existed on the Sonic Adventure Homepage.

In Sonic Adventure, an unknown robot (commonly referred to as ‘Silver Sonic’ due to his predominantly gray-black color scheme) can be found in a cryostasis chamber in the Final Egg hub world. This robot has no official name, and its overall purpose and function in SA1 and SADX remains a mystery. This robot does, however, feature in the Archie Sonic Comics as “Silver Sonic II”.

Cute couples can get in for free at Station Square’s Twinkle Park. The criteria for what the park considers a ‘cute couple’ is vague and unclear - whether there is an objective ‘cute’ scale or a company ranking is currently unknown. (The admin has confidence that he and his girlfriend could get in for free, though)

“Black market dealer” is a very common occupation among Chao. Black market sellers can be seen in Sonic Adventure 1 / Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle), Sonic Riders, and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

“Omizu!” is a drink advertised on a billboard that can be found in Shadow the Hedgehog’s Lethal Highway. Given that ‘mizu’ / ‘omizu’ means ‘water’ in Japanese, and ‘omizu’ can also be thought of as bottled water (region-dependent), Omizu! is most likely a water bottle brand (despite its distinct and striking vodka bottle shape).

In Sonic Underground, there is a robotic chili dog stand with arms and legs whose entire purpose is to make and sell chili dogs to hungry costumers. Not only does it carry buns and hot dogs (and presumably - hopefully - a built-in frier), but it carries mustard and ketchup on its person as well.

“Who I Am”, the opening track on American rock band Magna-Fi’s third album, VerseChorusKillMe, was intended to be the main theme for Shadow the Hedgehog. Due to vague circumstances that either involved Magna-Fi’s label, Aezra Records, stepping in at the last moment, or SEGA being unable to contact Magna-Fi in time, the song was replaced with Crush 40′s “I Am All Of Me”.
(There are quite a few songs cut from Shadow the Hedgehog, actually.)

In Hang Castle, a statue of Dr. Eggman can be found. If the gravity is flipped upside down, the statue will turn into a Metal Sonic statue, which foreshadows Metal Sonic’s role as the final villain of Sonic Heroes (even though a few cutscenes and the trailer totally spoiled his involvement already).

HEXAeco - or ‘Hexaco’ - is an umbrella organization based out of Grand Metropolis that owns a number of energy companies and automated energy plants across Mobius. HEXAeco produces and provides clean, ecofriendly energy alternatives - at one point, the Eggman Empire took control of Grand Metropolis and the HEXAeco power plants before the city was ultimately liberated by the efforts of Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Chaotix.

At one point in Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic says “Guess that means... welcome to the next level!” This is a reference to one of SEGA’s slogans during the 16-bit era, intended to boost the sales of the SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive), SEGA Game Gear, and the SEGA CD (Mega CD).

“In Sonic ‘06, it is revealed that Shadow’s IQ level is roughly around 200 after the events of ‘Town Mission 10: Agent Test - Intelligence’. Any IQ score over 160 is considered ‘genius’-level, which puts Shadow squarely into “genius” territory, and only 100 IQ below Dr. Eggman’s - considered by many to be the world’s greatest scientific genius - 300 IQ.”

“An Ichthus - the Christian fish symbol that many are familiar with - can be found in Sonic R’s Resort Island. This is a commonality shared between many of Traveller’s Tales’ games (the developers of Sonic R), likely due to founder Jon Burton’s christianity.”
