Can I please ask why tf Netflix just released a game about shadow and bone and not one week later they decided to announce that the show is cancelled???
I have never been filled with more hatred in me. "Due to the strike" my ass.
I truly hope another streaming service picks it up because not having most of the characters' stories be told is a crime. Keeping Matthias behind bars is insane. Not knowing what is happening with Alina is not okay.
Pls someone do something, I wanna see all six of crows together kicking ass and doing heists.
I'm mourning and I'm funeraling.

New Journey (S.H.) Chapter 2 Season 4
Pairing: Steve Harrington x henderson!reader
Summary: Back to Hawkins for spring break. Y/n believed it would just be a quiet time to cherish with her loved ones, but one day in and another mess had already began.
Warnings: cursing, mentions of drugs, murder
Notes: And we're continuing with season 4! Very excited to mess with this season's story plot and give an end to their obsession with Steve and Nancy as a romantic couple. But we are not steering away from drama as this chapter gives our couple their "issue" for this season. Hope you are safe out there and please enjoy the chapter! 💕

Chapter 1 << Masterlist ~~
Tumblr media
Feeling your body tangled in Steve’s arms was the perfect way to wake up. Your head was tucked in his neck, his scent filling your nose, making you snuggle more into him. He gave you the perfect warmth you needed for this chill morning as you were only wearing a t-shirt of his, too tired from last night's activities to get up and wear the pjs you had sneaked into his closet from when you first started dating.
You loved it when you woke up earlier than him. Most of the time his nerves got the best of him, so seeing him so relaxed always made your heart swoon. There wasn’t a lot of light coming in from the window in his bedroom, the curtains covering most of the morning sun, but the light that managed to get through fell on his face gently.
As you were watching him your hand traced figures on his naked chest, drawing a line on his collarbones. Your mind brought you back to last night as you recalled his sweet gesture. The room was still covered with all the candles he had lit up and the rose petals were still on the floor. You could still feel his hands roaming over your body and his lips making you shiver with every kiss he gave you. It brought a smile to your face and the only thing you wanted to do was pay him back for all the bruises you know you will find on your neck when you get up. So, without having to move too much, your lips started kissing his neck. Little feathery pecks turned into more heated ones as you started closing more and more to his mouth. You weren’t sure when exactly he had woken up, but by the time your lips landed on his, he was eagerly kissing you back, his two arms settling on the small of your back, pinning you into his body even more.
The groan that came from the back of his throat as you kissed made your body feel like jelly. You were sure you could do just this for hours, but breathing was unfortunately a thing, so you had to pull away just an inch from his mouth to take a deep breath.
“Well, good morning to you too.” his lazy smile made you grin.
You just smiled, giving his lips one more peck before settling back into his embrace. You heard him sigh lovingly from beneath you, his hand rubbing your back up and down. You were close to falling back asleep when his words awakened you.
“I wish I could always wake up next to you.” your heard fluttered. This was it. This was the perfect moment to bring up the plan you had formed in your mind.
“Well, what if you could?”
“What?” he asked not understanding what you were implying.
“Me and mom have been talking and we decided that with the money I have saved up from work, I can rent an apartment… And she suggested you move in with me.” you bit your lip, trying to find the best way to talk about this and make him understand how much you wanted this to happen.
“What?”
“At first, she joked about us moving in together after she noticed how many weekends you drive to see me, saying it’s a waste of time, but… What if it really is? I mean you do spend an absurd amount of time driving and it costs money that could be useful in other ways? You are at some point going to leave Hawkins, I mean you can’t stay in this town forever and your job isn’t an important one, so you could leave whenever you wish. So, I started looking for some apartments in town and near my college and I found the perfect little place to start. Steve, you are going to love it! I know, it’s a bit sudden but, can’t you imagine it? Us living together?” the words were coming out of your mouth without thinking, excitement taking over your body, while a small, stupid grin covered your face. Though, Steve’s expression didn’t match yours.
“You are right. It is a bit sudden.” you watched him as he sat up straight, his feet hitting the floor on the side of the bed. You felt your smile disappear from your face.
“I know- I know that and I understand that it’s a completely new thing and we know nothing about sharing a place in such an intimate way, but… Steve if there is anyone, I want to experience this with for the first time, it’s you.” you came to sit next to him, your hands hooking around his left arm. You waited for his response, but you could tell something was really troubling him.
“Um…”
“Steve?” you asked after a bit.
“Can we uh… talk about this later?” he finally said something, but now you weren’t sure what to say.
“What?” you didn’t know what to think. Did he not like the idea? Was it too soon? He was the one that went out of his way to visit you as many times as he could every month, so you thought it’d be the perfect alternative for always wanting to stay in the same place together. You knew he loved you, so what was the issue?
“I gotta get ready for work and you know how Keith gets when I’m late. I can’t give him another reason not to like me, right?” you watched while he got up and started dressing himself, putting on his uniform in a hurry and his shoes without even sitting down. His nerves were taking control of his body.
“Wait, Steve, what about-“ you wanted to at least hear if he wanted this to happen or not.
“You should probably get dressed too, you know? Go see all the other people you’ve missed. I can’t have you forever, can I?” he said and placed your clothes in front of you. You stared at them as you began feeling like an intruder in his space.
“You don’t like the idea?” you were confused, sad, and a little angry at the same time. You looked up at him after you had put on your bra from beneath his shirt, not feeling comfortable exposing yourself after his distant behavior.
“Y/n… Just- Can we sleep on it for a couple of days?” he finally looked at you, but he still wasn’t able to meet your eyes.
“Sleep on it?” now he was just getting on your nerves. Sure, it is a big deal for you guys, but can’t he sit down and talk to you about it? Like the adults you thought you were?
“Yeah, just let me think about it?” he scratched the back of his head, looking as if he was coming to a life or death type of decision.
“What is there to think about? You either want to or not.” your legs hit the floor and you stood up opposite of him. Your eyes searched his face, but he still wasn’t looking into your own, his hair covering his eyes as he stared at the floor.
“It’s not that easy, there is a lot to think about-” he started talking, but you caught him off.
“It’s fine. I get it.” your hands grabbed your pants and then his shirt was pulled off your body, putting on your own quickly.
You didn’t want to fight with him. You just came back and if you fought now, the rest of your trip would be completely ruined. Walking out right now was the best option for you. Maybe by the time you saw him again, he would have a complete answer for you, whatever that may be. You just needed something more than just a dismissive ‘We’ll see...’.
“Y/n…” he called out. He realized he had upset you. He watched your movements as you dressed. He thought back to the moment you had woken up and tried to understand why he had to go and ruin it like he always did.
“Just think about it all right? I’ll get the place either way, so it doesn’t really matter what you say, I guess…” you finished dressing as you put your left shoe on and handed him his shirt back. He took it hesitantly.
“Y/n.” his hand tried to reach for your own, but you pulled away quickly walking towards his bedroom door.
“I’ll walk home. Go to work, you can’t be late.” your voice was small, but you didn’t dare look sad right now.
“Come on, you can’t walk home. You’ll have a panic attack walking through these woods alone.” he came next to you, keeping his distance, and you hated it how much you wanted to pull him away and into your arms at the same time. You also hated that he was right “Let me drive you there.”
“I’ll wait downstairs.” you opened his door making your way down the stairs and out of the house. It was the moment you stepped out that you were able to take a deep breath. It wasn’t five minutes later that Steve came out of the house as well, a bag on his shoulder and the keys to the car in his hand. He shot you a glance as you both made your way toward the car silently.
The drive was awkward as neither of you said anything, your minds focusing on the conversation before. When you finally arrived at your house you said a quick bye, reaching for the door before his voice stopped your movement once again.
“Will you come see me today?” you turned to look at him and despite your anger and disappointment, you didn’t have it in you to be mean.
“Yeah, I want to see Robin too, so… I’ll see you later.” you offered him a small smile that didn’t reach your eyes and without thinking leaned in and kissed his cheek. You may be mad at him, but you still loved him. He smiled back at you, bidding you a silent goodbye, and watched as you stepped out of the car heading to the house without a second glance. A frustrated sigh left his lips after he made sure you went into the house safe and sound, his hands roaming his hair, something he did when he was stressed or nervous. Right now, it was both as he was thinking of all the things he could have said or could have done differently.
All he was certain for was that he was screwed.
As you entered the house all you wanted to do was lock yourself in your room, away from everything and everyone like a goddamned teenager. But the sight of your mother and Dustin sitting next to each other on the couch looking anxiously at the TV made you stop in your tracks.
“What’s going on?” your eyes fell on the screen. You tried to understand what the lady on Channel 9 was talking about, but your mom’s arms stopped you.
“Thank goodness you’re all right.” she was smothering you with kisses. Her sudden movements made you back slowly, almost tripping on top of Tews, who was just trying to earn your mother’s attention again.
“Of course, I’m all right, I was with Steve. What happened?” you looked at Dustin, who just pointed back at the TV silently.
You finally escaped your mother’s arms as she sat back down on the sofa, taking Tews into her arms. You took a step closer to the TV focusing on the reporter’s words.
“Murder? Who?”
“We don’t know yet. The only thing they have confirmed is that it’s a Hawkins High student.” your brother told you and your eyes widened. Your feet guided you to sit on the unoccupied armchair, not once taking your focus off the TV, silently begging the universe that’s all it was. An unfortunate murder from an awful human being and not something else, dreadful memories already filling your mind.
Tumblr media
Steve was at Family Video doing every possible job Keith could assign him to get his mind off you. This resulted in him rearranging the movies on the shelves while Robin complained about her love life. He tried to keep up with her, but her words were coming so fast out of her mouth that all he could do was just hum and nod his head to assure her he was listening.
“But I’m having this problem where it’s like, I should stop talking. I have said everything I need to say. But then I guess I get nervous, and the words they just- they keep spilling out and it’s like my- my brain is moving faster than my mouth and I want to stop digging, I’m trying to stop, but I can’t.  And I’m doing it right now, aren’t I?” she finally turned to look at him. Steve found it amusing how riled-up Vicki made Robin without even knowing what she was doing to her, but he also sympathized because he knew this narrative all too well.
He was leaning on one of the shelves staring at her waiting for her rant to end when he agreed with her question and watched as she backed away slowly towards the wall behind her, sighing defeatedly.
“I’m hopeless.”
“Eh. We both are.” he followed along, settling next to her, his own mouth letting out a sigh.
From the corner of his eye, he could see Robin staring at him “With Y/n coming yesterday I figured I couldn’t stop you from talking my ear off with all the plans you have arranged, but you’ve barely said a word, lover boy.”
“You’ve barely stopped talking for the past hour. How could I say anything?” he tried to joke, but looking at Robin’s face he knew shit would get real “I did something stupid.”
“Obviously.”
He rolled his eyes at her words but didn’t fight her sarcasm “Last night was incredible with her and I mean incredible, Robin. We spent all day together, went back to mine, I even did the candles surprise I told you about.” he started fidgeting his shirt with his fingers, the nerves surrounding him once more.
“Uh huh… But?”
“But… this morning Y/n said something that threw me off a little.” Steve glanced at Robin, who was just waiting for him to complete his words “She asked me to move in with her. In Michigan.”
His friend’s eyebrows shot upwards “Wow.”
“Yeah. And suddenly everything felt so real, and I panicked, and I just ignored her questions.” his body lifted from the wall, and he started picking up tapes from the cart and putting them on the shelves, just so his hands had something to do.
“You didn’t say anything?” Robin questioned him but didn’t leave the wall.
“No. No, I did say ‘Let’s sleep on it’.” he answered.
Robin almost chuckled at how frustrated he was but kept it together since it wasn’t the time to tease him right now. She had to be the friend he needed.
“Is she mad?”
“I’m not sure, but she’s definitely annoyed with me. I just- I didn’t know what to do. I mean, how do you respond to your girlfriend asking you to move in with her?” Steve asked after his hands messed with his hair.
“Well, for starters, you don’t say ‘Let’s sleep on it’.” she couldn’t help it. It was a natural instinct to make fun of him as often as she could.
Steve groaned at her words, throwing the tapes back on the cartwheel in frustration before placing his hands on his face. Robin let out a chuckle this time, and came next to him, partially to also check if the tapes had any damage on them.
“What’s the problem anyway? I thought you’d be over the moon. The only thing you want to do is be with her 24/7. Moving in with Y/n would be your best solution.” she said.
“I-” Robin could see the wheels turning inside his head. She waited to hear his answer, but it seemed that he wasn’t ready just yet “Can we just talk about something else? Please?”
“Okay, lover boy. Ooh!” she patted his shoulders to bring some life back into the store before she ran to pick up a movie from across the room “I think I found our morning movie” Robin picked it up from the shelf and turned to show her friend “Doctor Zhivago.”
“Ugh, you know I don’t do double VHS.” Steve argued, shaking his hands at her suggestion.
“But it’s about doomed love.”
“Oh, well, that’s relatable.” he joked, bringing the cartwheel back behind the counter.
“Precisely.” Robin agreed and followed him “Also, Julie Christie is b-b-bonkers hot in this. Like, seriously, the most beautiful creature I have ever seen in my life.” she opened the small TV they had at the store, ready to put on the movie, but the newscast caught both of their attention.
“Holy shit.” was all that Steve said as he listened to the reporter describing the cold cause that had just happened last night.

You were still sitting with your mom and Dustin in the living room, not making a sound as you waited for any further information about the case, when suddenly someone was knocking on your door.
You flinched at the noise but relaxed as you saw the person standing behind it when Dustin opened the door. Max glanced at Dustin at first before her eyes fell on you, the surprise only staying for a mere second as she became anxious again. It was all you needed to understand that this was a matter you had to talk about privately.
“Uh, Mom, me and Max are going to my room to talk.”
“Sure, baby. Hello, Max.” your mom tried to say as calmly as she could, Tews purring in her arms.
You watched the two of them make their way toward Dustin’s bedroom, but before you could ask if you should follow, Max grabbed your arm and pulled you along with them. Your mother was too focused on the television to question why you were going with them.
When you entered the room for a second you just looked at each other, not knowing what was happening. Max was the one who broke the silence, her eyes falling on you.
“I didn’t know you were back.”
“Just arrived yesterday. I thought I’d see you at the match, but…” you were pretty sure what the reason behind her absence was, still, you didn’t want to talk about it with Dustin here.
“Wasn’t feeling like it.” she shrugged, and you sent her a small smile. She had told you she and Lucas broke it off one night when she called you crying. When you left for Michigan, you told her that she could call you whenever for whatever reason. Not having Eleven here or the guys to discuss this made her even more upset. You were her only option, and you were ready to hear and discuss everything she needed.
“Max… What are you doing here? Is everything okay?” Dustin interrupted your train of thought, bringing you back to the matter at hand.
“I’m guessing you’ve heard what’s happened?” Max stood next to the bed looking at both of you. You simply nodded your heads, feeling her need to say more “It happened at the Forest Hills trailer park, right opposite our trailer.”
“What?” your body was leaning on Dustin’s desk, worry taking over your expression as you started at your younger friend. It had slipped your mind that’s where she was staying now.
“Did you see something?” Dustin asked curiously.
“I saw who it was…” she answered carefully “When they brought out the body, I took a glance at the outfit. It was Chrissy Cunningham.” you turned to look at Dustin as the name didn’t ring any bells to you. You knew it was someone from Hawkins High and judging from Dustin’s face, he immediately knew who Max was talking about.
“Chrissy Cunningham? You’re sure it was Chrissy?” he was pacing back and forth inside the small room, your eyes following him.
“Yes, in her cheerleader outfit. It was the same thing she was wearing when I saw her with Eddie.” Max explained and Eddie’s name caught your attention.
“The trailer was Eddie’s?”
“His uncle’s, but yeah. They went in together last night.” Max told you.
“Did you tell all this to the cops?” your brother asked.
“No. No, but I… I can’t be the only one who saw them together. I mean they stood out.” you couldn’t help but agree. You didn’t know Chrissy, but you did know that a cheerleader and a drug dealer weren’t a match made in heaven.
“Eddie the freak with Chrissy the cheerleader?” Dustin described your thoughts out loud.
“Exactly. You know, his name’s not in the news yet or anything, but I guarantee you Eddie is suspect number one now.” your brother stopped in his tracks after hearing Max’s words.
“That’s crazy. Eddie didn’t do this. No way.”
“Dustin…” you warned him.
“No way.” he pointed his finger at you, repeating his words.
“Well, we can’t rule it out.” Max told him.
“Yes, we can.” he protested.
“Dustin!” Max said frustrated.
“You don’t know him like I do. Okay?” his voice was certain, but as he turned to take a look at you too, you saw sadness in his eyes “When we got to high school, Lucas made all his sports friends. Mike and me? I mean, no one was nice to us. No one except Eddie.”
This made you silent. You felt for your brother, as this once was your world too.
“Okay. Well, I mean, they said the same shit about Ted Bundy. Yeah, he’s a super nice guy, but then he’s murdering women on the weekend.” you shook your head at Max’s example, knowing it would get a rise out of Dustin.
“So, you’re saying Eddie is like Ted Bundy?” he asked defensively
“I think what she is saying is we can’t come to a conclusion without facts, Dustin. We don’t know what actually happened, so we can’t presume anything.” you explained calmly, trying to be the voice of reason behind this crazy situation. Why did you always have to be involved in every shitshow this town had to offer?
“All we know is, whatever happened, it still doesn’t look good for Eddie.” Max said and all Dustin could do was sigh and sit down on his bed, knowing that she was right.
“Why haven’t you told the cops this?” he simply asked her.
“I- I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” Dustin asked.
“Max?” something troubled her, it was obvious as she sighed and sat next to Dustin, trying to collect her thoughts.
“After I saw Eddie and Chrissy go in the trailer… something else happened. I was at my trailer watching TV when it started playing static. I got up to fix it and suddenly all the lights started flickering. Then I heard a scream coming from Eddie’s trailer before I saw him opening the door and running off to the car, driving away quickly.” your eyes fell on the floor after you heard her talk about the lights, panic rising in you. You kept calm, though, listening to the rest of her story, see if you could make sense of any of it “Nothing that weird or anything. I mean… Eddie always drives like a maniac and the power goes off at my place all the time. It’s a piece of shit. But… This morning, I started to think back, and… I don’t know. The look on his face. He was scared. Really scared. Maybe he was scared because, you know, he- he just killed someone, or…” she couldn’t say it, didn’t want to accept this possibility “Maybe, um… Maybe, because… I don’t- I don’t know, maybe...”
“Something else killed her.” Dustin completed her thoughts though, his own fear awakening.
“But that’s impossible. Right?” she glanced at you. You looked her in the eyes for a moment, considering everything, before biting your lip and nodding.
“Theoretically, yeah… It should be.”
“There’s only one person who knows exactly what actually happened.” Dustin said and you and Max answered at the same time.
“Eddie.”
Quickly Dustin started grabbing everything he could find useful and stuffed them inside his back bag. Meanwhile, he explained to you the plan that was already forming in his head, telling you that your main goal was to find where Eddie was now.
“But we need phones for that, and we don’t have enough here.”
“Plus, Mom would kill you with the electric bill.”
“That too.” he pointed his finger at you, agreeing “So, we need a place where we could get away with multiple calls and also get access to Eddie’s friends’ numbers.”
“Family Video.” Max realized and Dustin nodded at her, putting on his bag.
“Yep.” he glanced at you and joked when he saw your distant eyes “I don’t know why you’re looking so displeased, you get to see your boyfriend.” Dustin thought you were distant because of the news you just found out, not knowing the truth behind your anxiousness was the thought of seeing Steve.
“Yeah… Let’s go.” you opened his door and let them through and followed quickly behind them. Whether you were ready to see Steve or not it didn’t matter right now, because you had to know what happened with Eddie first and foremost.
“Have you talked to anyone else?” Dustin asked as he guided you to the front door.
“No. I can’t find Lucas or Nancy, and Mike’s in-” Max’s words were cut by Dustin’s swearing.
“California. Shit, shit, shit.”
You arrived at the living room, and you grabbed the jean jacket you had discarded yesterday when you arrived. Your actions were noticed by your mother, who had a confused look on her face.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m taking them out for breakfast to let go some steam.” you were able to come up with lies easily over the past few years, not wanting to include your mother in everything that’s been happening “They need some fresh air after everything, don’t you think, Mom?” you sent her a sweet smile.
“I guess…”
“I’m taking my car.” you grabbed the keys after you managed to find them and jogged towards your car.
“I don’t think it’s very safe out.” you heard her yell out and then listened to Dustin ‘reassuring’ her.
“Good point. We’ll be extra careful. Thanks, Mom. Love you. Bye.”
After the door was closed it only took a few seconds for the kids to get into the car, Max on the back and Dustin sliding in the passenger’s door. You put the keys in and started the car, making your way toward Family Video.
Tumblr media
Getting to the store was easy, but explaining everything to Steve and Robin wasn’t. Also, Dustin definitely wasn’t making it easy as he simply threw himself over the counter, making a mess in the process, before sitting in front of the computer, already searching for the names you needed.
You and Max shook your heads at his actions while making your way behind the counter by simply walking there. You stood behind your brother listening to Steve and Robin complain about the unnecessary mess he had created.
“Dude! What are you doing, man?” Steve asked while he and Robin started picking up the tapes that had fallen from the counter.
“Setting up base of operations here.” he said enigmatically, and you rolled your eyes at his behavior.
“Base of operations?” Robin repeated confused.
“Stop, get off of that.” Steve tried to get Dustin away from the computer, but your brother just ignored him going on with his search.
“No, I need it.” Dustin argued back, while you were trying to keep your nerves together when Steve stood next to you as he stared at Dustin.
“Need it for what?”
“Looking up Eddie’s friends’ phone numbers.”
“Oh, Eddie, your new best friend you think is cooler because he plays your nerdy game.” Steve whining made you scrunch your eyebrows as you turned to stare at his childish behavior.
“Eddie, yes! I never said that.” Dustin defended himself.
“Seriously, you guys, maybe on a Monday you can play around here like toddlers, but it’s Saturday. It’s our busiest day.” Robin told you as she was picking up the fallen tapes.
“All right, look Robin, I totally empathize, but this cannot wait until Monday.” Dustin said as he continued searching through the computer.
“Oh my God.” Steve’s annoyance became even more prominent.
“What? Cause calling all of Eddie’s friends is an emergency?”
“Kind of.” you answered Robin.
“Do I have your permission to strangle him?” your boyfriend asked you as he stood next to Robin, her eyes lighting up at the idea.
“Oh, we could take turns.” her words made you roll your eyes before pointing at both of them.
“No. And no.”
“Can you just fill them in while we gather the numbers?” Dustin asked you without even turning his head away from the screen.
“Fill us on what?” your boyfriend asked you and after a moment you leaned in closer to them and started talking.
So, after explaining everything you knew so far to the other two, the calls began. Having Dustin, Max, and Robin on the phones was enough to give you a headache with multiple conversations happening before you. Also, the noise coming from the customers filling the store wasn’t helping either.
You were seated on top of the counter, a pen and a notebook in your hands. Your job, for now, was to inform them what the next number was to call and track down every important detail that you could find about Eddie. But so far, the phone numbers were just lessening, and no information was written down about his whereabouts.
“Any progress yet?” you looked over your shoulder to see Steve leaning on top of the counter, trying to take a peek at the notebook.
“Nope. You sure you won’t get in trouble with all these phone calls? Won’t Keith go all ballistic on you?” your concern was genuine, but you tried to play it off as a joke to also ease up the tension between the two of you. But Steve wasn’t really feeling like joking, so the words left his mouth before thinking them over.
“Well, the least he could do is fire me, and as you said my job isn’t important.”
“You know I didn’t mean it like that.”
“No, yeah, I know what you meant.” his tone seemed sarcastic, which aggravated you.
“Do you seriously want to fight right now?”
“Hey, guys, I might have a lead.” luckily you were interrupted by Max calling all of you to hear her.
“Seriously?” you brother asked.
“Yeah. Apparently, Eddie gets drugs from some guy named Reefer Rick and sometimes Eddie crashes there.” the redhead explained to you.
“That sounds promising. Where does this Reefer guy live?”
“See, that’s the thing. No one knows. He’s more of a… a legend than someone that people actually know.” Max’s answer to Robin’s question made you ask another one.
“Well, what about a last name?”
“I don’t know that either.” she quickly told you.
“Bet the cops know the last name.” Steve voice said from beside you, making your head turn to him with your brows scrunched.
“What?” Max voiced all your questions.
“Cope. I mean, listen, if this Reefer Rick is actually a drug dealer, I guarantee you he’s been busted at some point. Means he’s in the system.”
“The cops? Really, Steve? That’s your suggestion?” your brother had an angry look on his face as he got up from the chair he hadn’t left for at least half an hour.
“I mean, I just think at this point they should be filled in on what we know, what’s going on.” your boyfriend tried to reason with him.
“You think Eddie’s guilty, don’t you?” Dustin for the second time today got defensive towards his new friend, making you think. You trusted your brother’s judgment more than anyone else’s, including Steve’s, so if your brother likes him that much, Eddie can’t be the person you judged him to be.
“Woah, I believe in innocence until proven guilty, all that constitutional shit. I just, you know, I just don’t think that we can rule it out.”
“That’s precisely what we’re trying to do here, Steve.” Max told him and Dustin pointed at her, agreeing with her words before continuing.
“And maybe we’d have a little bit more luck if you spent less time looking at my sister like a sad puppy and more time trying to find Eddie. Seriously, what’s happened with you two?”
“Nothing!” you both said louder than you had expected.
“I wasn’t even looking at Y/n, I was helping customers. As we should be actually doing rather than searching for a potential murderer?” Dustin pointed his finger at Steve, ready to tell him a piece of his mind before Steve beat him to it “I said potential! Look, dude, we have a big selection here and it can be overwhelming for customers, I have to help. ”
“Yeah, it can be.” your eyes fell on Robin as she was now the one sitting on the chair, typing away on the computer. You all quickly rushed behind her to see what she was looking for.
“What are you doing?” Max asked her.
“Maybe we don’t need a last name.” just as she made her last click, Steve settled beside you. You all stared at the screen intensely “12 Ricks already have accounts here.”
“That’s a lot of Ricks.” you said but Robin was quick to follow.
“So, let’s narrow it down.”
So, after finding a potential candidate for Mr. Reefer Rick, you gathered all your stuff, waited for Steve and Robin to help the remaining customers, and closed the shop for the day before hoping into your cars, Robin with you and the kids with Steve and rode to the address Robin found under Rick Lipton’s name.

The fic is out! I hope you like it. I always struggle a bit when I write angst but I think I did an okay job 😅
Thank again for sending your request 💕
Hello! I was wondering if you were interested in writing an angsty Steve Harrington x Robin Buckley x reader (all platonic because the reader is under 18) story where they all work at Family Video. The reader is really shy and timid. When she first started working at Family Video, Steve and Robin thought it was kind of funny the reader would just do whatever was asked of her and they would push their work off onto her so they could mess around. Then Steve starts to notice things about the reader like bruises and not having anything to eat on her lunch break or anyone to pick her up or drop her off. He grows a massive soft spot for her. One night a group of guys from school that always bully her show up and start harassing the reader, cornering her in the back of the store. They’re all bigger than her and she’s scared of them. Steve gets super protective and makes the guys leave. She’s trembling with anxiety even after they are gone and Steve calms her down and then she confesses that they bully her all the time at school. Steve and Robin start looking out for her more.
Sorry if this is too angsty. I was bullied in school for having a disabled brother and sister and nobody was there to stick up for me. And I didn’t have the help at home. I’m just hoping to live vicariously through this fic. But if it’s too much, take care of yourself first ❤️
Of course I can!
I'm sorry you had to go through such an awful experience. I truly hope you and your family are doing better ❤️
I will start working on it this week and reblog this ask with the link so you will be notified when I post it. Thank you for sharing your experience 😊

Pairing: Steve Harrington x platonic!reader x Robin Buckley
Warnings: cursing, bullying, bleeding
Notes: Hope you like the fic and sorry for taking longer than I expected, college just started which means a lot of assignments to organise and deal with. Also, sorry to anyone named Mark, it just came to me. Stay safe out there!💕

Tumblr media
Steve had just rung up a customer when the door of the store flew open revealing an out-of-breath Robin entering the store. He wished the sweet lady who had just rented ‘The Karate Kid’ goodbye and let his eyes fall on his best friend leaning her forearms on top of the counter, trying to catch her breath.
“You’re late.” Steve simply told her.
“I know, I know. Band practice went on longer than I expected.” she took quick deep breaths to calm down her beating.
“Even the new hire came in earlier than you.”
“We have a new hire?” Robin’s memory wasn’t the best, but she definitely didn’t remember Keith telling her about a new hire.
Steve pointed towards the back of the store where a familiar figure to Robin was organizing the Halloween section they always set up during October. It took a moment for Robin to get her thoughts sorted out, but as a light bulb lit up in her mind, she was already calling out your name and saying hello as she remembered you are also a suffering student at Hawkins High.
She watched as your head lifted and turned toward her, not finding it odd that you responded with nothing more than a small wave before returning to your work. Even at school, you were one of the quieter kids, so Robin took the wave as an accomplishment.
“You know her?” Steve was the one now leaning, watching his friend’s interaction with furrowed brows. When you had come into the store just an hour ago and quietly told him you were the person Keith told him to expect, Steve was excited. He liked meeting new people and given you were fairly around his age he was excited to have another friend. But as he began showing you around, he quickly realized you weren’t much of a talker, which disappointed him. So, he was just rambling on and on about the store and its requirements while you simply nodded at his words, your eyes not even meeting his. When he noticed Robin was running late, he took the decision to stay behind the counter and assigned you the job he was supposed to have already finished, which you took without question, silently arranging the shelves.
“Yeah, she’s from school, but of course, you don’t remember her.” she smirked at him. Robin loved teasing him about his past personality, and Steve hated it.
“Will you stop it with that?” he followed her movement as she walked to the breakroom to get her things sorted out before coming back out to start her shift.
“Why don’t you go and help her out since she’s doing your section?”
“I was covering for you, smartass.”
---
So, all of your shifts went on as they usually would. You were mainly the one organizing the shelves with the returned or new tapes you would get; Steve was the one to help customers around the store and Robin was usually sitting by the register. When they didn’t have any customers, they made sure to show you some of the other sections around the store, so at any given moment you would be able to help out without any problems.
Robin usually tried to start conversations with you, mainly about an assignment you both had or complaining about an annoying teacher, but your answers were short, so after a couple of tries, she stuck with casual conversation.
This has been going on for a week. You would all come at your required times and do your jobs. Well, you did your job quietly while Steve and Robin chatted away the second they didn’t have to actually work.
Steve was confused at how closed off you were. At first, he thought it was because he had done something to you back in High School that he didn’t even remember, something so bad it made you hate him. However, he quickly realized that your closed-off behavior wasn’t just for him, you acted that way around Robin and Keith too, so he at least knew it wasn’t personal. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder why you were like that.
It was a week after you first started and all three of you were on the closing shift. You had closed the store, but you still needed to prepare everything for Keith who would open tomorrow. Robin was closing the register when she began looking around the store for Steve. She couldn’t find him anywhere so she turned to you, who were sweeping the floors, getting rid of all the dirt the customers would bring in during the day.
“Hey, have you seen Steve?” she watched your eyes drift behind her as you pointed at the same direction, before continuing your task. Robin turned her head over her shoulder only to watch in horror how he was already out of his work clothes and ready to leave.
“Well, I’m off. I have a date tonight and I can’t be late. See you tomorrow.” he waved at the two, but neither of them responded and for different reasons.
“Woah, woah, there dingus. What do you mean you’re off?” Robin’s legs quickly made their way over to Steve blocking his way out of the store.
“It usually means I’m leaving, Robin.” he scoffed, turning to look at you waiting for a reaction over this, but looked back at Robin when he saw you weren’t even paying attention to them.
“I told you yesterday that I can’t close because I have to study for a test tomorrow, Steve.” Robin’s arms crossed over her chest while Steve grimaced when the memory finally hit him.
“Well, I can’t cancel on the date, I’ll look like an idiot.”
The pair began arguing over who deserved to get off work early the most, not realizing your movement stopped as you turned to stare at them.
“I can close.”
For a second Steve was startled by the new voice, but relaxed when he realized it was you. He thinks this was the first time he had heard you say so many words at once, hearing your voice clearly for the first time.
“You sure?” he questioned you and sighed with relief when you nodded your head.
“Alright well, we have a list of what needs to be done around the store at the back if you don’t remember anything and then you just lock up with these right here.” you watched the brown-haired boy make his way at the counter and grab the set of keys you already knew where there.
“I know.” you took them from his grasp and placed them in your pocket.
“Good.”
“Thank you, seriously, we owe you.” Robin had just grabbed her stuff and opened the door for the two of them. They wished you goodnight before leaving the store and you behind.
---
That’s how it started. At first, they were really thankful you could cover for them, but as time went on they realized you were always ready to take over. Sometimes it happened while Steve was too busy to finish the work he had started because he was flirting with a cute girl. By the time he had rang the girl up and escorted her out, he went back to find his section ready and you leaving without a word. You also helped out Robin when she would inevitably forget she had to do something.
The pair didn’t question it at all. They actually found it pretty convenient, and so they started testing just how far was your limit. Whenever they were busy, talking, or bored they would assign you a task they were supposed to be doing. They were a little hesitant at first, trying to see if you would catch up to what they were doing, but you always took on the job without complaining. And since you weren’t complaining they thought it was the perfect plan. And it’s not like they didn’t do anything, they just watched more movies now at the store unbothered. And isn’t that what they were supposed to do, they told themselves, watch the movies they had to give out the perfect recommendations to customers? They were doing them a favor.
---
November had just started and you were once again over at the Halloween section, taking everything down, as you listened in to Steve’s awful attempt at flirting with yet another customer. You heard him laugh at his own cheesy joke when his body collided with yours sending you and the tapes you were holding on the floor.
Steve’s head immediately whipped around and started cursing when he saw you on the floor. He turned back to Rebecca, the girl he was talking to, to excuse him for a moment, but realized she was already gone.
“Great…” he mumbled under his breath before focusing his attention back to you “Hey, I’m sorry, I’m such an idiot. Are you okay?”
You watched him from the corner of your eye kneel down next to you, but you didn’t look up to meet his eyes, just started picking up the tapes from the floor.
“Hey, here, lemme get those.” he took the tapes from your hands and placed them in the cart you were previously using. He grabbed the rest of them and then let his eyes fall on you once more “Want me to help you up?” even though he put it as a question he didn’t wait a second to grab your wrists, ready to pull you but to your feet, but his movement quickly died down when a wince came from your mouth, your eyes snapping closed as if you were in pain.
Steve immediately removed his hands off you, looking terrified wondering what he did “Oh my God, are you okay? Did the fall hurt you? I’m sorry, let me look-”
He saw. You didn’t register his actions before it was too late, and he saw. He saw what they had done to you, and now you were scared. You didn’t expect Steve to help you up. You didn’t expect him to grab you by your wrists, the same place they used to tug you around when they threw insults in your face. You didn’t expect him to notice your pain, you always thought you hid it well. And you definitely didn’t expect him to worry and inspect upon your pain, because no one else has ever had. But he did. He grabbed your long sleeve, pushed it up, and he saw them. You did tear off his gentle grip and pulled the sleeve back down, but he had clearly seen the purple bruises on your arm.
“I’m okay.” you told him quietly, your eyes staying on the ground.
You stood still for a second, trying to decide what you were supposed to do now, waiting to see the way Steve would react as well.
“All right. I’ll, um… I’ll finish over here, alright? Go see if Robin needs any help.” you weren’t sure if you were glad he didn’t comment on it, but you left without a second thought, praying he wouldn’t make it a big deal.
---
After that incident, Steve’s eyes mostly never left your figure while at work. He always watched you do your job. At first, he told himself it was out of curiosity over the bruises, but it wasn’t long till he realized he was worried. Because it wasn’t only the bruises that picked his curiosity. Suddenly he started seeing all those things about you that hinted at something wrong.
He was able to notice your wincing more often, especially when you thought no one was looking, always caressing your wrists after a long shift. He also noticed that you never had a break during work. He tried to recall when he had last seen you have a meal here, but other than the occasional granola bar during full shifts on the weekends, you never brought anything else with you, which was a drastic difference compared to him and Robin.
When he ran it by Robin, she tried to take a more logical approach to the whole thing, but she also found it weird.
“I mean during the weekdays it could be because we’re having lunch at school, but on the weekends… I don’t think I’ve seen her sit on her break longer than 5 minutes.”
“Right? I don’t know, maybe I’m overreacting here, I mean, not everyone has our appetite.” Robin nodded at his words “But I’m starting to get a little worried here. And I can’t outright ask her because I don’t know her that well. Plus there’s no way she would answer me, right?”
“Well, collectively, we’ve only heard her say 20 words? So, no, it won’t be easy to talk to her.”
“Try and see if you could approach her more in school, see how she acts there. Does she have any friends? Maybe we could ask them?” his brain was trying so hard to find some way to help you without scaring you away.
“To be honest with you, it is a little hard to keep track of her around school. She always seems to disappear in between classes, like she doesn’t wanna be found.”
He thought his talk with Robin would be reassuring, but it ended up being anything but that. So for the rest of the day he made sure to help you out with your work and stop putting more things on your shoulders. He decided he would try to get on your good side, so he could approach you about his worries.
---
You had just helped a little kid pick out a movie to watch with his mother when loud laughter and yelling caught your attention. Your eyes shifted at the front of the store in curiosity before they widened. Your heartbeat picked up and you could barely feel your legs as they started guiding you away from them.
‘What are they doing here’ you thought. You were used to them at school, but here? How could you hide it? You can’t go out the entrance door without them seeing you and the break room is on the other side of the store. Your mind was screaming for you to hide, but as his eyes fell on you, you knew it was too late.
---
Steve eyed the group that entered the store suspiciously. He had never seen them in here before, but he remembered their faces when he was back in Highschool. Back then they were just kids, mostly getting into trouble with stupid pranks they did around school, but they build a reputation for themselves, so of course ‘King Steve’ would have them in his radar. He didn’t like them, but he couldn’t just go up to them and demand to leave the store, he would be fired.
So, he decided to let them be and only interfere if something bad actually happens.
He was helping out a sweet lady, telling her all about the movie she was interested in just so she could make sure nothing scary is in it. He spent a good five minutes doing so and then proceeded to ring her up and show her out the store, holding the door open for her, when Robin’s figure appeared next to him.
“Hey, can you deal with Mark and his little friends? I really don’t feel like talking to them outside of school.” Steve nodded at her words. Mark was the ‘leader’ of the group, the one telling the rest what to do and what not to do.
“Yeah, I will, don’t worry. Is he still as stupid as I remember him?” they made their way to the register, leaning their bodies as they waited for another customer to enter.
“Oh, he’s worse now. They’ve started picking on people a lot more, not just dumb pranks.” he watched her pick out a candy from their candy jar and pop it in her mouth.
“He hasn’t tried anything on you or the kids, right?”
“No, don’t worry. Just victims of his stupidity reeking the entire school.”
Steve smirked at her exaggeration but stopped when he realized you weren’t anywhere near his eye sight “Have you seen Y/n?”
However, before they could start looking for you, the yells coming from the back started becoming more prominent. Robin sighed at their behavior and Steve stood up straight, patting her back “I’ll go kick them out.” he made his way towards Mark and his friends and clapped his hands to announce himself as their heads came into view behind all the shelves “Alright, guys, If you don’t sto-”
Steve froze. When he saw you down on the floor, hiding in the corner while Mark stood before you, his hand gripping your hair, he nearly lost every sense of control he had in him, but he knew killing wouldn’t resolve to anything good right now.
“What the fuck are you doing? Get off of her.” he yelled at him as he pushed his way to the asshole above you, punching him across his face and when the guy stumbled, trying to find his balance again, he grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and pushed him into the wall. The rest of the group started scattering and left the store quickly as they realized they had been caught.
“Steve, what’s…” Steve could sense Robin was now watching everything that was happening but couldn’t focus on anything other than Mark in front of him. He wanted to hit him again, he wanted to beat the shit out of him, but for now he had to stop, because he wasn’t his main focus, you were. He needed to make sure you were okay first and then if you gave him the green light he would get Dustin and they would hunt Mark down.
His fist was already in the air in a way to threaten Mark, and it was working. The boy in front of him despite being the horror of Hawkins High for some of the students that attended, to Steve he was still just the scrawny kid he used to see run around the halls. And Mark remembered Steve, who couldn’t remember him? So, even he knew not to test the King’s limits.
Steve’s fist slowly lowered as he once again grabbed onto his collar “If you ever try anything on her or anyone again, I will not hesitate.” he pushed him into the wall one more time before sending him forward. He watched him nearly fall on the floor before he quickly ran to the door and left the store.
It didn’t take long for Steve to come back to his normal self where only one thing was important. Making sure you were okay. Turning around he saw you still on the floor, your shoulders shaking. He could tell you were crying even though your face was angled to the floor. Robin was before you trying to access the situation, but each time she would try to put a comforting hand on your shoulder, you shook it off. He didn’t even think you were doing it on purpose, you were just scared.
“Hey, hey, Y/n? Can you hear me?” he kneeled down and spoke in a soft voice. He wasn’t sure what the best approach would be when someone is having, what he would assume this is, a panic attack, but his instinct told him ‘just don’t startle her’.
He waited for some kind of response, but you only shook harder at his words. You could hear him and you could understand him, but your body wasn’t making it easy to answer him. You wanted to say it’s fine and then walk away and never talk about this again, but you’ve been caught red handed.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to say anything. Can you nod for me and tell me if you can stand up?” your breathing was quick and tears were falling from your eyes, but you eventually pulled through and nodded your head. You heard the boy before you let out a sigh of relief before he started speaking again “Alright, great. Robin, go and flip the sign up front, we don’t want any customers right now.” you heard Robin agree and the sound of her footsteps came next. Your eyes were closed, so you were relying on all your other senses to understand what was happening. Suddenly, you felt a cloud of warmth surrounding you, Steve was closer to you now, you realized “I’m going to help you get up and we’re going to walk to the break room, is that okay?”
You were able to let out a shaky ‘yes’ before you felt his arms loop around you and help you stand up. Without realizing it, you made it to the break room where you were sat on top of a chair while the others stood around you, trying to help you.
Robin helped you through your panic, guiding you to follow her breathing, while now with your eyes open you could see Steve run around trying to find water for you and some kind of bandage for your hand that was bleeding. After the fall you had landed on top of the moving cart and managed to scratch your hand as you tried to stop the harsh impact.
Eventually, your breathing was back to normal, your eyes were red, and the water bottle was in your hands, one of them wrapped with bandages. You were focusing on the water and not on your two coworkers, who were starring at you from across the table in the break room waiting for you to speak. You guessed Steve didn’t have a lot of patience since it wasn’t long until his voice filled your ears.
“Do you want to tell us what happened?” his voice was soft and you were thankful for that. You weren’t sure why you were expecting to hear him angry, as if he has ever been anything but nice to you, but you feared that after seeing you on the floor they would call you all those things you already knew about yourself. Stupid, weak, a bitch, like how he called you.
After a couple of seconds you were able to nod your head and look them in the eye, before speaking softly “Um… Mark and the rest, they uh… they’ve been messing with me-”
“Messing with you? More like-” Robin spoke up, her voice filtered with anger. She felt terrible for not noticing how you felt. She was never too good at filtering her words and action, so when Steve nudged her, she knew it wasn’t the time to let her emotions get the best of her “Sorry.” she motioned for you to continue, but you quickly shook your head thinking you sounded dumb.
“It’s not even a big deal, seriously.” your good hand was playing with the cap on the water bottle.
“Not a big, deal? Y/n, you’re bleeding. And I’m guessing the marks I saw on your arm were from them too?” Steve was getting defensive. He couldn’t believe you thought this was any kind of ‘okay’. He started feeling the same way he does when the kids are in danger and he wants to do anything, everything, to make you feel protected and safe.
“You saw those?” your voice was a mere whisper at this point.
“Yeah, I saw those. Y/n, what they are doing is wrong. No one should be treated like this, especially not you. If they ever try anything again, you come and tell me, alright?” you watched as his eyes met yours when he kneeled down before you once again. You could see he was genuine, and you could feel your guard being let down.
“Oh, I’ll make sure they don’t, because from now on you’re not leaving my side at school, okay? They’re not going to hurt you ever again.” Robin made a promise to herself to be your personal bodyguard at school.
You looked at both of them and then your eyes filled with tears again “I’m really scared…” you finally admitted to them.
“I know, but you shouldn’t be. From now on you have us, okay? We’re sorry for not noticing sooner, but you can truly trust us.” Steve held out his hand for you, which you took gladly.
“We want to help.”
You sniffled at their words and finally let out your first smile in front of them. Your first smile in a long time “Thank you.”

Chapter 7 << Masterlist >> Season 2 Prologue
Tumblr media
After calming down, you decided you should go back to the middle school to check on the kids. You and Jonathan rode together, while Nancy got into Steve’s car to try and explain what had just happened to them on the way there.
The ride was silent. You weren’t sure what topic you could discuss after fighting an interdimensional monster. So you just settled on the passenger's seat, closing your eyes for just a moment until you arrived at the school. You were certain that by leaving the kids behind you were doing the right thing. You all had agreed that inside the gymnasium they would be far away from any kind of trouble. But your luck was terrible.
Arriving at Hawkins Middle and seeing all the police cars and ambulances, almost felt like a stroke. Before Jonathan could even park the car, you were out of your seat, running around the parking lot, searching for the kids. Searching for Dustin.
You spot Dustin and Lucas sitting on one of the ambulances and you make a bee line to get to them. You couldn’t even feel the tears that were falling from your eyes as he turned to see you, his eyes opening wide.
“Y/n, you won’t believe wha-” he began speaking only to get interrupted by your arms hugging his small frame.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry for leaving.” you were sobbing, your faced smushed on his curly head of hair “Are you okay? Are you hurt? Lucas, are you okay? What happened?” you couldn’t stop asking questions, panic rising inside you as began looking all over Dustin’s body for any injuries as well as Lucas’s, but thankfully didn’t find anything out of place.
“Y/n, we’re fine, we’re okay.” your brother reassured you, taking ahold of your hands, so they would stop trembling.
“Okay, good- Wait. What about Mike? Where is he?”
“He’s over there with his parents.” Lucas pointed to your left and you turned to see him in Karen’s arms.
He looked alright as well, but there was one more kid missing “And Eleven? Where is she?”
The look on Dustin’s face made it clear that not everything was okay.
So you sat down between the boys, Jonathan joining you after a few minutes, while you listened to the kids explain what had happened when you left. How the bad men came to take Eleven, how she stopped them with her powers, but also how the blood from the bodies attracted the Demogorgon to them.
He described to you the battle between the creature and Eleven and finally, he tries to explain the fact that she just vanished into thin air, both your friend and the monster.
You felt awful. You felt like you betrayed them. You didn’t manage to kill the creature, so you didn’t protect the kids and you didn’t save Eleven. This was all your fault. You were going to miss that little girl and her peculiar powers, and as much as you hated the fact that she was gone, you couldn’t help but feel relieved that the rest of the kids were safe, you couldn’t help but thank her for her sacrifice.
___
Your next stop was the hospital where you also reunited with Hopper, Joyce, and Will, who was unconscious, but alive. Relief surrounded you now that everything was finally over. The Demogorgon was dead, and Will was rescued, you could finally breathe again. Your mother was called when the police had arrived at the school, but as Dustin told you, she didn’t answer, which meant she was having another late shift. After discussing with Hopper what to say, you decided to wait until you got back
As they were treating Will, a couple of nurses called upon you, Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve to treat the cuts you all had around your bodies. The moment Jonathan was free to go, he rushed back into Will’s room, while the rest of you made your way back to the waiting area.
You didn’t know how long you were waiting for Will to wake up. You were sitting in one of the most uncomfortable chairs you had ever sat your ass on with Dustin’s head on top of your left shoulder while Lucas’s on top of your right one, both of them sleeping and snoring. You could feel sleep calling for you too, your body aching for it, but you couldn’t sleep now, you had to wait for Will to wake up.
At one point Jonathan came back with the news you were all anxiously waiting for as he nodded towards Mike, which made him jump off his seat and shake his friends to wake up “Guys. Guys, he’s up. Will is up. Guys, Will’s up.”
The shaking surely made you more awake and get out of your seat while the kids started running to Will’s room. You walked over to Jonathan with a small smile and hugged him, his arms returning the hug before walking after the kids. You stopped and leaned on the doorframe, looking fondly over at the party reunited again. Seeing Will awake brought tears to your eyes, his gaze on you making you smile widely at him and give him a little wave.
After a while, you felt your throat drying so you walked over to the vending machine to buy a soda, but the stupid thing decided to eat the only money you had on you.
“Come on, you piece of shit.” you hit it in exaggeration when a voice interrupted you.
“Here, let me.” when your head turned around to look at your savior you definitely didn’t expect Steve, but here he was putting a dollar on the machine, asking you what you wanted, and handing you your soda. You took it silently and leaned against the wall as you opened and drank it. You watched as he took a small cup, ready to fill it with coffee when you felt the need to warn him.
“I wouldn’t drink that if I were you.”
“Why not?” you thought his tone was going to be sarcastic but his concerned eyes made you realize this wasn’t the case.
“It’s awful. I've had it before and it just isn’t worth your time. That’s why I am settling for a sugary soda. At least it will keep me awake for a little longer.”
He nodded at your words, and set the cup back down, getting another dollar from his pocket, and buying a soda for himself. You expected him to return back to the waiting room, thinking he had accomplished his goal here, but you frowned when you saw him leaning like you on the wall opposite of yours.
You tried not to show it, but you couldn’t help but wonder, why the hell was he sitting here with you? You didn’t like him, and you were certain, after your fight and Jonathan and his fight, he didn’t like you either. You debated to just walk away and return to the waiting room, not feeling the need to have more small talk about what the fuck had happened, but a memory stopped you. You remembered him back at the Byers’ with the bat in his hands, hitting the Demogorgon and saving you from getting torn into pieces, and as much as you thought he was a dickhead for everything he has done, you couldn't ignore his actions back there. If it weren’t for him things probably would have been a lot different.
So you took a deep breath, pushed your pride down and opened your mouth “Hey, uh… I just wanted to say thank you…” you looked up and saw him frown at your words as if he didn’t understand why you were thanking him “You know, for earlier.”
His eyes shot open the moment he realized what you were referring to “Oh, yeah, yeah, no problem. I was nothing.”
“Well, if it weren’t for you, I would have died so I don’t think it was nothing. So… yeah, thanks.” you looked back down at your soda, wishing the ground would swallow you up after that awkward interaction.
Steve however couldn’t help but smirk as he watched you “How much did it kill you to say that?”
“A lot.” you admitted truthfully, but you both started snickering under your breaths “You have no idea.”
“That’s okay, I get it. I- I also need to apologize for acting like a dick before. I swear I am done with Tommy H. and Carol and with the whole ‘king’ stuff.”
“Yeah, right.” you scoffed and looked up to see his serious eyes watching you closely as you rolled your own “Oh, come on. They follow you around like lost puppies. There is no way you are getting rid of them and your fame.” you said before taking a sip from your soda.
Steve simply nodded at your words before clearing his throat “They will after I left them stranded at the Fair Mart.” a small smirk lining his lips when he saw how surprised you were at his actions.
“You didn’t.” you gasped at his words, fairly surprised that you didn’t want to hit your head on the wall after talking to him so much.
“Yeah. they were talking shit like usual, and I just realized how annoying they were being. Which made me realize that’s how the rest of you see me too, and I didn’t like that. I didn’t want Nance to see me like that.” his smile faded as his words became more honest. You never thought you were going to be having an actual meaningful conversation with the Steve Harrington, but you had to admit, you almost liked this side of him. The one that wasn’t screaming jackass in all directions. And you appreciated the fact that he wanted to change for your friend, so you decided to give him the second chance he was searching for.
“Well, if you keep making their lives a living hell, I will definitely consider changing my mind about you.” you said cheekily making him chuckle.
“Giving you my word, Henderson.” he joked back, which made your smile wider.
“Cheers to that.” you raised your sodas and drank them together.

One month later
You couldn’t believe it. You were literally driving your new car and you still couldn’t believe it.
After a year of working, you had saved the amount your mom had told you you needed to split the price and the day before Christmas you bought your new (well used but it didn’t matter to you) car. It felt great to have something of your own and the feeling you had as you drove down the road, made every annoying customer worth it.
You were glad you didn’t have to deal with any more of the customer’s bitter remarks. After you told your mom you had the money, she made you promise her that you would now focus on your classes, especially since next year you were graduating. So the next day you went back to the diner and parted ways with Mr. Miller promising to come for breakfast on the weekends with Dustin as much as you could.
It almost felt weird that life carried on like nothing had happened last month. No one knew what had truly happened, the government doing its job and keeping it under racks like it was nothing. It felt weird the first few weeks, going to school, and talking to people who didn’t know you had fought an actual monster, but maybe that’s exactly what you needed to let it in the past, to forget that it had ever happened, to pretend like its growl wasn’t still haunting your dreams.
That’s what you were thinking as you drove to the Wheeler’s house. The party was having another campaign and you were on your way to pick Dustin up after he spent the whole day with his friends. When you parked the car and got out you saw the front door open and smiled at how cheerful Will looked after the campaign. Jonathan followed after him, carrying a box in his hands.
“Hey, guys!” you smiled and made your way through the light snow that had fallen, careful not to slip.
“Y/n! You won’t believe what happened in the end! The thessalhydra appeared and I rolled a fourteen and- and fireballed him and we won!” you couldn’t help but giggle at his excitement, glad to see him so happy after everything he’s been through.
“Wow, well done! Next time make sure to save me a seat.”
“Really?”
“Yep. The courageous High Elf, Erida, will accompany you to yet another adventure.” you jokingly vowed before him and he responded as he laughed. You smiled and turned to look at Jonathan, trying to take a look at the present in his hands “And what loot does this traveler hold?” you kept your speech theatrical, liking the effect it had on Will.
“Oh, this… It’s- It’s nothing.” Jonathan tried to dismiss it but Will was always ready to give you every information you needed.
“Nancy gave it to him.”
“Oh. Nancy, huh?” you smirked at Jonathan who was now avoiding your eyes completely.
After all of you had a couple of days to relax, you went over to Jonathan’s to apologize for all the secrecy you held during everything. You explained the situation involving Eleven and as the tears started gathering in your eyes at her memory, you felt his arms pulling you into a hug, telling you it was okay. You calmed down and continued to talk when you eventually brought up him and Nancy. Maybe you were imagining things but you had to ask him if something had changed in him about her. He told you you were crazy and nothing had changed other than just being better friends, but you saw his blush.
Nancy was now officially with Steve, but deep down you could feel it wasn’t going to last forever. Although for now, you had decided to drop it, only annoying Jonathan with your thoughts from time to time.
“Okay, I think it’s time for us to go.” he asked when he opened the door to let Will in.
“Fine, fine. Say hello to Joyce for me.” you called after them and waved goodbye to the two brother before knocking the front door.
You only waited a few seconds for Karen to answer and invite you inside, your feet immediately heading for the basement. You walked down the stairs but stopped when you saw the sight before you. Both Dustin and Lucas were on the floor with their limbs tangled up.
“Hey, Y/n.” they said in unison when they spotted you.
“I am not going to ask what happened. Ready to go, big guy?”
“Yes. Next time make the campaign longer!” he pointed his finger at Mike, grabbing his bag and heading to you.
“Also, I wanna play next time. Will you have me?”
“Heck yeah!”
“Erida returns!”
You laughed at their exclaims “Alright, Merry Christmas, boys. And please, open a window in here. It stinks.”
“Yeah, Dustin’s farts stink.” you stopped Dustin from going back down to defend his honor and instead pushed him up the stairs “Wait. Let me wish Nancy a Merry Christmas as well and then we’ll go.”
“Make it quick. I’m hungry.” you ignored his whining and left to search for Nancy, finally finding her in the living room cuddled up with Steve.
“Sorry to interrupt, lovebirds. Just came to wish you a Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, Y/n.” you opened your arms to welcome her hug as she stood up and walked towards you. Steve just gave you a smile and a wave as he returned the wish, not yet comfortable with anything else.
“Hey, do you wanna stay for a bit?” Nancy asked you “Call your mom to pick you up? We don’t want you riding home with fresh snow falling.”
“Ah, that would be now problem anymore.” you had a sly smile on your face and because she didn’t understand what you were talking about you grabbed her hand and walked over to the window that had a clear view of your car.
“Shut up. It looks great.” Nancy announced excitedly.
“My Christmas gift to myself.”
“That’s a nice set of wheels, Henderson. I’m impressed.” Steve told you after he joined you two by the window.
“Why you sounding surprised, Harrington? I know my stuff.” you were ready for a playful banter when Dustin’s voice to hurry up gave you your cue to leave.
You wished them goodnight and opened the passenger’s door for the impatient Dustin to get in, before opening your own and starting the car.
“I still don’t understand what she sees in him.” you heard him mutter.
“Who?”
“Nancy. Isn’t Steve a bully? Why does she like him?” you couldn't help but smirk at how miserable and disappointed your brother looked at this very moment. It's incredible how delusional you can be at that age.
“He’s not that bad anymore, and don’t forget that without him you wouldn’t have a sister anymore.” you stole a glance to see him frowning which made you chuckle “Oh, come on. I bet you’ll have your chance one day.”
“Really?”
“No, but it’s important to have dreams.” he stuck out his tongue at you while you laughed.
You arrived back home quickly and began preparing the dining table to eat with your family. While you sat on your chair and looked around, you were grateful to be alive and well. Grateful Dustin was also okay, even though you still catch him crying in secret but always hiding it so he would not concern you. Grateful to let everything in the past and forget about the Upside Down and the Demogorgon. Ready to start living your once again normal life.

Chapter 6 << Masterlist >> Epilogue
Tumblr media
Making a sensory deprivation tank wasn’t in your plans today, but here you were with the kids, Jonathan, Nancy, Joyce, and Hopper separating into teams to prepare it. You were paired with Joyce and Eleven to help her prepare for the tank.
“Where can we find goggles in this school?” Joyce asked you and you pointed to a classroom at the end of the hallway.
“That way is where the science classroom is. You will easily find goggles there. I’ll come find you after I get Eleven something to eat to regain some of her strength.”
You left Joyce and Eleven as you headed in the opposite direction towards the kitchen area. Walking through these halls made you almost nostalgic as you remembered your time spent here. It wasn’t any different than high school, kids were mean, and teachers were too strict, but right now you longed for the lost innocence of your old self.
You stepped into the kitchen and tried hard to find something a little edible in this nightmare of a kitchen. You ended up opening a refrigerator to find probably hundreds of puddings in there. You grabbed two of those and the cleanest spoon you could find and made your way back to the classroom where you found Joyce and Eleven sitting on two chairs facing each other. Joyce was busy covering the goggles with tape as you walked in, grabbed another chair, and sat down with them.
“Here, I hope it’s not spoiled.” you joked and opened the pudding for her and held it out for her along with the spoon. She sent you a small smile and started eating it. You turned your attention to Joyce who was just finishing up the goggles.
“You think this will be good enough?” she held them up for you to see.
“Yeah, they should be able to let her concentrate better.”
“Great…” she looked at Eleven for a moment. The girl was eating the dessert fast and before you knew it she was reaching for the other one. You both smiled at her, making you miss Joyce’s eyes now on you “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Huh?” your head whipped in her direction.
“When you guys found her, you should have said something to us.” Joyce’s words were so sincere, it almost brought tears to your eyes.
You smiled and looked at her shaking your head a bit “You were focused on Will… And she looked so scared around me at the beginning, I didn’t want to bring more adults before we had completely gained her trust.” Joyce understood, but she still felt bad that you had to deal with all this before she learned more about this case. It was just her motherly instincts kicking in. Almost losing Will forever made her feel empty, and she didn’t want to feel it again with any of you.
“Just know that you can always come to me for anything.” her smile made your lips turn upwards as well, taking her hand in yours.
“I will.”
“Finished.” Eleven’s words pulled you towards her and you grabbed the empty cups, getting off your seat to go throw them into the bin. In the meantime, Joyce was talking to Eleven about the goggles.
“Okay, great. So, this should keep it dark for you. Just like in your bathtub.” she stopped for a moment to take a good look at the little girl “You’re a very brave girl. You know that don’t you? Everything you’re doing for my boy… for Will… for my family… Thank you.” you returned to your chair and watched as they held hands “Listen. I am gonna be there with you the whole time. We both will. And if it ever gets too scary in that place, just let us know, okay?” you nodded at her words and waited for El’s answer.
“Yes.”
“Ready?” you spoke up.
“Ready.”
The three of you made your way back to the gymnasium where the others had set up the pool. Everything was ready for her. You took your seat in between Dustin and Lucas as you all watched the young girl put on the goggles, enter the pool, and relax her body to float.
You can feel your anxiety kicking in, the silence around the room making it worse while you wait for something, anything to happen.
The lights started flickering above you before turning off completely, darkness surrounding you.
Not much time passed when Eleven’s voice filled the gymnasium and the lights started flickering again. But you didn’t care. Your entire focus was on Eleven and the word she whispered, the name ‘Barbara’.
“Is Barb okay? Is she okay?” Nancy asked, her voice filled with fear, begging for good news. But all of your hopes were let down when the girl before you started repeating the word ‘gone’ each time getting louder and louder. Tears filled your eyes as they fell to the ground. Your friend was gone, you would never see her again.
You could hear Joyce reassuring Eleven, her screaming easing down, but you still couldn’t look up, like a weight keeping your head down. A hand covered yours and squeezed it tight, pulling you out of your trance. Dustin was looking at you with his big eyes and you used your strength to nod, silently telling him ‘thank you’.
Both your heads turned back to Eleven who had now found Will at Castle Byers. The realization that at least Will was okay, allowed you to take a deep breath, blinking away the tears that had gathered underneath your eyes.
“You tell him… Tell him I’m coming. Mom is coming.” Joyce said to her and Eleven repeated the words. The static coming from the radio stopped for a moment when a single word came through.
“Hurry.” you gasped as you heard Will’s voice, weak and small, but it was his.
“Okay. Listen, you tell him to- to stay where he is. We’re coming. We’re coming, okay? We’re coming, honey.” Joyce was on the peak of tears after hearing her son’s voice.
You could hear Eleven reassuring Will when she suddenly stopped speaking, whimpers now only coming from the radio. El shot up from her lying position, breaking any connection with the Upside Down. She was crying but she was okay. Joyce took her in her arms and tried to calm her down.
The girl ended up cuddling in a blanket, sitting with the rest of the kids, while Hopper and Joyce started making plans, Jonathan helping them, when you realized that Nancy wasn’t in here with you, you silently made your way outside.
You found her outside the room, sitting on the ground and leaning her back on the wall, her knees brought up to her chest. She looked sad and lonely. You knew all you could offer her right now was just your presence. You couldn’t make her happy or less worried or angry at herself because you were in the same situation. You had both lost a friend, a best friend in Nancy’s case.
But the brunette didn’t care about words of empathy, she just didn’t want to be alone, so as soon as you sat beside her she hugged your form as tight as she could, praying that nothing else bad would happen to any of you.
Being in Nancy’s arms brought back all the emotions you felt when you heard the word ‘gone’ from Eleven’s mouth “I’m so sorry, Nance.” you fought back the tears in your eyes as you hugged her tighter.
“I’m sorry too.” her voice whispered in your ear.
You spent a good while just holding each other, your head ending up on her shoulder when Jonathan walked out of the gymnasium and spotted you. You watched as he made his way towards you and sat next to Nancy, the comfortable silence lasting for only a moment longer before Nancy spoke up.
“We have to go back to the station.”
“What?” you and Jonathan said in unison, your own head leaving the comfort of her shoulder as you sat up straight.
“Your mom and Hopper are just walking in there like bait. That thing is still in there. We can’t just sit here and let it get them too. We can’t.” you all knew she was right. Hopper and Joyce haven’t seen this thing and for all you could know more of these monsters could be down there. The least you could do was distract one of them, possibly, hopefully, even kill it.
“So, the plan’s still on?” you knew what the answer was going to be, but you had to make sure you were all on the same page.
“I wanna finish what we started. I want to kill it.” Nancy answered you.
___
You left without saying a word to the kids. You knew if you had gone back to the gymnasium, they would have wanted to join your task and there was no way in hell you were even having that conversation. So, you didn’t say goodbye to Dustin, which meant you also couldn’t die during this madness of a plan, because you really couldn’t leave without telling him a final goodbye.
Your first stop was at the station, taking back the stuff Hopper had taken out of Jonathan’s car. Then you headed straight to his house. The first thing on the plan was to put back on the bulbs of the hundred little Christmas lights Joyce had put up. After that, you had to take care of the weapon equipment. Nancy had her gun with her, but unfortunately for you, the Byers didn’t have any other weapons inside the house, so you decided to use that and help Jonathan get creative with the baseball bat they had, putting nails all over it. For your protection, you had a couple of knives that you carried with you. Sure, they were small, but you had good aim.
You watched Jonathan carefully place the bear trap in the hallway, helping him when he needed it. The final step was to pour gasoline all over the hallway, stopping just at the living room’s entrance where you placed a chair and the yo-yo that was connected all the way to Will’s room. After all the preparations, the three of you gathered around in a circle, each of you holding a knife.
“Remember.”
“Straight into Will’s room. And-” Nancy said before Jonathan spoke again.
“Don’t step on the trap.” your friend’s eyes fell on you.
“Wait for the yo-yo to move.” you finished and held his gaze.
“Then…” he lights up his lighter for just a second, before bringing his focus back on the task at hand “All right. You ready?”
“Ready.” you and Nancy say, holding up your blades, a small hint of apprehension rising inside you.
“On three. One. Two… You don’t have to do this.” Jonathan must have noticed your shaking hand closing in on your free palm.
“Jonathan, stop talking.” Nancy told him.
“I’m just saying, you don’t have to-”
“Three.” you said determined and you grazed your palm as much as you had to draw out blood, to draw the monster to you. Nancy and Jonathan followed along, and the room filled with your gasps of pain. You dropped the blade on the table next to you and rushed to grab the bandages, tightening them around your hand to stop the bleeding. Nancy came over to help you tighten the fabric around your hand, waiting for her own turn.
You weren’t sure how much time had passed when your thoughts were interrupted by a creaking sound.
“Did you hear that?” Nancy asked the three of you. She and Jonathan were sitting together on the couch as she was helping him with his cut. You were sitting on the opposite side of the room, playing with your blade after cleaning it, and calming yourself down before everything happened.
“It’s just the wind. Don’t worry.” he said to the both of you with a soft voice “My mom, she said the lights speak when it comes.”
“Speak?” Nancy questioned.
“Blink. Think of them as alarms.” he explained.
“Like when El uses her powers.” you thought out loud. Your eyes connected with Jonathan’s and his look made you stare back down on your hands. Mentioning Eleven’s name right now reminded you of everything you kept from them, from your friend who was so desperately trying to find his brother, oblivious to the fact that you knew the entire time. You felt guilty and embarrassed, but you swallowed down any unwanted feelings for now. The sudden knocking on the door certainly helped get your mind off of things as it startled all of you.
“Shit…” the curse left your lips while your heartbeat peaked up.
“Jonathan! Are you there, man? It’s… It’s Steve! Listen, I just want to talk!” Harrington’s voice was clearly heard through the door, only making you question whether it was true, or the gasoline had messed up with your head.
You turned to look at your friends, silently asking them what the hell are you gonna do now. His knocking wasn’t stopping, his voice was getting louder, and you couldn’t believe you were worrying about Steve’s well-being right now, but if you didn’t stop him right now there was a high chance your high school was going to have to find a new ‘King’.
So, Nancy quickly opened the door and tried to make him leave, keeping her answers short, which wasn’t making her dear Steve any less concerned. You and Jonathan kept quiet just waiting for this to be resolved, when Steve’s worried question made you pay more attention to the conversation happening by the door.
“Hey, what happened to your hand? Is that blood?”
“Nothing. It- It was an accident.” Nancy tried to dismiss him, but he wasn’t bulging.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Wait a sec. Did he do this to you?”
“No.”
“Let me in.” Steve pushed past her and stopped in his tracks as you and Jonathan came into view, as well as the hundreds of lights and the weapons lying around. Yeah, it didn’t look good on any of you “What is…”
“Get out of here.” Jonathan tried to push him back out, but Steve was strong enough to hold his position.
“Whoa. What is all-” he pointed around, but you really didn’t have time for his questions.
“Get out, Harrington.” you pointed towards the door.
“Listen to me, I’m asking you. I’m telling you, get out of here!” Jonathan was still pushing him back, but still to no avail.
“What is that smell? Is that gasoline?” you and Jonathan continued your yelling, failing to make the famous jock leave, when Nancy’s voice grabbed your attention from behind.
“Steve, get out!” you turned around only to find the end of Nancy’s gun pointed to Steve. You took a step back letting her handle the situation.
“Wait, what? What is going on?” the guy looked startled as he watched the high school sweetheart with a gun.
“You have five seconds to get out of here.” Nancy told him.
You watched the scene unfold before you, Nancy starting her countdown when the flickering of light caught your attention, your eyes widening with realization.
“Guys.” you called out, slightly hitting Jonathan’s arm to get his attention, pointing up at the lights.
“Nancy.” he tells her, but she’s too focused to hear you.
“Wait. What- what is this?” Steve asked, terrified over what was happening before him.
“Nancy!” you screamed.
“Nancy, the lights!” Jonathan finally managed to get her attention “It’s here.”
“Wait, what’s here?” Steve said.
“Where is it?” Nancy completely forgot about Steve as she walked next to the two of you. Your backs faced each other, creating a circle so you could have a clear view of the room before you.
“Where is what? Whoa! Easy with these!” Steve exclaimed when he saw you use your weapons out for defense. He was watching everything happen before him and did not understand a thing. Why were you all here? Why were you all hurt? Why did you have weapons? And what were you looking for?
“Where is it?” Nancy asked again, getting impatient.
“I don’t know. I don’t see it.” Jonathan said.
While your eyes were moving everywhere at once, trying to find a glimpse of the monster and ignoring Steve’s cry for an explanation, you saw specks of dust falling in front of you, making you look up. Suddenly, with a loud thud, the creature appeared from the ceiling “There!” you pointed.
Nancy started firing at the creature but Jonathan was already grabbing her, yelling for all of you to start running. With quick breaths, you began walking backward following your friends, but Steve’s still body made you stop. You grabbed his hand, tagging him along with you. You both started running, quickly telling him to jump over the bear trap, only letting go of each other when you entered the room and Jonathan closed the door.
“Jesus! Jesus! What the hell was that? What the hell was that?” Steve was panicking and yelling at the three of you, but right now it wasn’t the time to draw any more attention to you, so you collectively decided to tell him to ‘shut up’ while you waited to see what the monster was going to do.
You could hear shrieking from outside so you took your position with your blade out before the door next to Nancy and Jonathan, who had the lighter ready, waiting for the yo-yo to give him the signal to drop it. The plan was for the Demogorgon to trap itself in the bear trap and then light up the hallway, so it would burn up.
So, you stood there, hearing it walk around the house, panting as you prayed to hear the trap go off, but nothing was happening.
“What’s it doing?” Nancy asked you.
“I don’t know.” Jonathan answered.
The flickering lights returned to normal when you noticed that the house was now too quiet.
“Can you hear it?” your voice was small, dreading any type of answer you would receive.
Jonathan just muttered no. He put his lighter back in his pocket and carefully opened the door, each of you going out one by one. You looked around the house, expecting to find it hidden in a corner, ready to sneak up on you, but it was nowhere to be found.
You let yourself relax for a moment, your knees almost giving up as you crouched down in exhaustion. But, of course, you couldn’t even have a moment to yourself since Steve had started panicking again, yelling how this was all crazy. You stood up when you saw him grab the phone to call for help, but Nancy was quick to stop him, throwing it on the floor.
“What are you- What are you doing? Are you insane?”
“It’s going to come back. So, you need to leave. Right now.” she instructed him.
The guy was frozen for a moment, looking around the trashed living room and glancing at Jonathan and you for confirmation. It didn’t take long for him to understand how serious all of this was, scrambling to take his car keys out when he fled to the door.
A few moments after the door closed behind him, the lights started acting up again “Get ready.”
You held the same position as before, looking around the room to spot it. Nancy’s adrenaline was making her ramble about where the hell it was, while Jonathan’s impatience was getting the best of him as he was now ordering the creature to show itself. You just stayed silent, trying to realize where it was going to appear.
Suddenly the lights went out and a growl was heard from behind you.
“Jonathan!” Nancy screamed for the boy’s name as the Demogorgon attacked him, sending him to the floor, the bat falling from his grasp, leaving him helpless as the creature climbed on top of him.
“Nancy, shoot it!” you yelled, and she responded quickly, the sound of shots filling your ears.
“Go to hell, you son of a bitch!”
The Demogorgon rose from the ground, the bullets doing little to no damage as it began closing in on Nancy. You just watched in horror for just a moment, watched as Nancy continued firing at it, but when she ran out of bullets, you took it as your cue to help her out. You take a deep breath and aim the blade at it. Luckily for you, it successfully landed on its back, making it shriek in pain. Unluckily for you, it didn’t do enough damage to stop it from coming towards you.
It felt like time was moving in slow motion when the abandoned bat caught the corner. The adrenaline inside you told you, you could make it, you could grab it and beat the creature with it. But your fate was decided for you when it clawed the carpet from under your feet, sending you to the floor.
You thought this was it. You hopelessly laid on the floor watching the monster approach. Its petal-shaped mouth opening up, revealing hundreds of teeth ready to demolish you. Your eyes closed waiting for the impact, and it did come, it just wasn’t for you.
You opened your eyes to see none other than Steve Harrington swinging Jonathan’s bar effortlessly, avoiding any contact the Demogorgon tried to make and in return landing every swing he made. You watched him in awe, tears prickling in your eyes as the realization of not dying caught up to you.
Nancy was helping you get back on your feet when a snapping sound caught your attention.
“He’s in the trap! He’s stuck!” Steve yelled and Nancy screamed for Jonathan to do it now.
He goes over to the poured liquid on the carpet and drops his lighter, fire igniting in the hallway, the monster screeching in pain. The heat burned your face, so you shielded it with your arm. You saw Jonathan grab the fire extinguisher as he instructed you to get back before firing it.
After a few seconds, the fire was out, smoke filling your lungs and making you cough. As it cleared out, the four of you started walking forward to see the damage, Steve next to you still holding the bat ready to defend all of you. But you quickly realized that once again, it had disappeared.
“What…” you mumbled under your breath.
“Where did it go?” Nancy asked.
“No. It has to be dead. It has to be…” Jonathan was panting, frustration filling his entire body.
You put a comforting hand on his shoulder when you notice the Christmas lights before you light up one by one. In fear you all backed away slowly, nearing the end of the hallway when they stopped approaching you and started lighting up in the opposite direction. Steve, who was now shielding the rest of you with his body and the bat, began following after them, which made you all follow after him slowly.
The lights lead you back to the living room and you all look at them nearing the front door. Jonathan moves a bit ahead of the rest of you, muttering something before you all follow the lights outside of the house.
You stand on the porch watching the streetlamp flicker for just a moment, then return back to its normal state.
“Where’s it going?” Nancy asked.
“I don’t think that’s the monster.” Jonathan simply answered as you all stood in silence catching your breath and hoping you did enough to help Joyce and Hopper out.

Tumblr media
“I tried getting in touch with you.” your brother tried to explain himself.
“I left the walkie at home.” you told him sternly.
“Why did you leave it at home?” he protested back as if he wasn’t the one in the wrong right now.
“Because I didn’t want to make myself a target when I potentially came across a deadly monster, Dustin!” your voice was beginning to get higher, but not enough for your mother to hear.
You and your brother were arguing about everything that had occurred yesterday. After you had woken up you knocked on Dustin’s door to tell him about your last night’s discoveries, you noticed how stiffly he was sitting on his bed as he watched you tell him all about it. At first, you thought he was simply terrified of the things you told him, but the single drop of sweat on his forehead gave away the fact he was hiding something.
He gave in after only one question. He told you about their trip to the woods, the fight, and Eleven’s disappearance. You couldn’t even put into words how angry you were at all three of them.
“I’m sorry, okay? We thought we’d find something…” his eyes were staring at the floor, not daring to look up at you. He had never seen you so disappointed in him. He hated it when you fought.
“Yes, Dustin, you could have found something. Something so horrid that left Nancy in full shock yesterday. Something that is going after the people in this town. That is why I went into the woods and specifically told you not to follow. Can you not understand the kind of situation that we are under? And not to mention, Eleven is now gone. She is alone in that forest just because you can’t follow one rule!” you despised yourself whenever you yelled at Dustin. He was your little brother; it was your job to keep him safe. But he was still your brother and a lot of times he would get on your nerves. However, seeing his sunken face made your heart ache, so you decided to resolve this with a softer approach.
“So now what? You guys are not even talking?” you sat beside him on his bed. He shuffled, turning his body a bit towards you before speaking.
“Mike and Lucas are still mad at one another. I tried to talk some sense into them, but failed… Y/n, I-I truly am sorry. I know we shouldn’t have attempted to try anything, but constantly sitting still, worrying about Will and you out there… We felt like we had to do something.” he was playing with his hands, so you put your own on top to comfort him. You had just now realized how red his face had gotten. He was trying to keep his tears from falling.
“I know this is hard for you... But putting yourselves in danger is not going to help anyone right now, all right?” you patted his back as he nodded his head listening to your words “Now, I have a job for you.” his eyes lit up “You’re going to splash some water on your face and then bike to Mike’s, make him and Lucas talk and get back together. I can’t continue this monster hunting without the three of you and your crazy, but surprisingly accurate theories.”
He did as he was told. After five minutes you had said goodbye to your mother and were ready to head in your separate directions.
“So, you’re going back out there?” he asked shyly, his bike on his side.
“Yep, and because now I understand I will never be able to contain you all… Here.” you handed him an army knife  “Use it only when you need to. Don’t go showing it off.” you hoped he would at least listen to you about this.
“I promise I will.” he smiled up at you as he took it and placed it in his bag “Be careful out there.”
“I always am, buddy.” you ruffled his hat-covered head and waited for Jonathan to arrive. Hardly five minutes had passed when you saw the familiar vehicle heading towards you. You noticed Nancy was already in the passenger’s seat, which confused you since your house is closer to Jonathan’s than the Wheeler’s, but you didn’t think much of it.
You got in the back and greeted them both. You could tell by the bags under their eyes that they didn’t have a good night’s sleep yesterday and you understood why. All you could think about was the terrified look on Nancy’s face, her screams calling for one of you to find her.
“You guys okay?”
“More than okay. We have a plan.” Nancy announced, not an inch of fear in her voice. It surprised you to see her so determined, but you were glad you were going back into action. This thing had to be dealt with fast.
As Jonathan drove to the store, Nancy explained what your next plan involves.
“So, you think it can detect blood? What, like a shark?” your brows furrowed as you listened to her.
“Think about it. Before Barbara disappeared, she had cut herself with a bear bottle, you fell off your bike and scratched your knee the night it approached you, and yesterday the deer was bleeding as well.” she had turned her whole body from the front of the car to look at you while she spoke.
“So even a single drop of blood…” you thought out loud.
“Can attract it, yeah.” Nancy finished your sentence with a quick nod.
“If we are right about this then we can-” Jonathan started speaking before it finally clicked inside your head why you were heading to the hunting store.
“We can lure it to us.” your eyes lit up.
“And into a trap.” Nancy nodded, glad to see you agreed with them.
___
You all were strolling around the store, picking up everything that looked useful or harmful enough for a monster. Your eyes fell upon the bear traps, and you signaled for Nancy and Jonathan to take a look, agreeing in silence that it was one of your best shots at getting this thing. After your shopping you placed everything on top of the counter, staring at the cashier as if this number of weapons and supplies was normal.
“And I’ll have four boxes of the .38s.” Jonathan spoke, and you watched as the man grabbed those for you.
“What you kids doin’ with all this?” his expression was full of confusion.
You turned to look at Nancy next to you and Jonathan on the other end, contemplating whether to lie or not, when Nancy beat you both to it as she responded with a shrug “Monster hunting.”.
You held your breath, hoping not to be asked any more questions, but relaxed when the man behind the counter simply scoffed and rang you up with the total.
You carried the bag of supplies outside of the store, Nancy and Jonathan following behind you as you waited for the latter to open up the trunk so you could place it inside. As he took out his keys, a question popped into his mind “Monster hunting?” he asked Nancy.
“You know, last week… We were shopping for a new top I thought Steve might like.” she pointed between the two of you “It took us and Barb all weekend. It seemed like life or death, you know? And… And now-“
“Now you’re shopping for bear traps with the freak and the pathetic weirdo of Hawkins High.” you joked and placed the bag into the trunk before turning to look at your friends.
“Yeah.” Nancy smiled, picking up on your humorous comment.
“What’s the weirdest part? Us or the bear trap?” Jonathan asked teasingly after he had closed the trunk.
“You. It’s definitely you.” you chuckled at her, all of yesterday’s arguments forgotten when suddenly a car honked, pulling all of your attention towards it.
“Hey, Nance! Can’t wait to see your movie.” a guy from school, Reed, said with a laugh as he drove off.
“What the hell was that?” Jonathan asked what all of you were wondering.
“I don’t know.” Nancy said, staring at the direction of the car when suddenly she turned and took a couple steps forward.
“What? What?” Jonathan asked Nancy first and then you, trying to realize what was happening, but your eyes were focused on Nancy, as Reed’s words replayed on your mind.
‘Your movie he said. Why would Nancy have a movie?’ you thought. ‘What if...’
The moment you saw Nancy heading towards the direction of the movie theater, you knew you had the same thought as her. You followed without thinking, ignoring Jonathan’s questions. When your eyes finally landed on the movie theater your run halted for a second as you stared up at the big red words ‘ALL THE RIGHT MOVES STARRING NANCY THE SLUT WHEELER”.
Your head turned to your friend who was now running before she stopped right in front of the billboard. But before you could go to her and comfort her, something else caught your eye and filled you with anger. With just a few steps towards the new sight, something made Nancy turn her head to search for you. Your eyes met and she knew what you had seen as you both bolted towards the alley, where Steve, Tommy H., Carol, and Nicole were screwing around with the red spray can. They were laughing at something Tommy was writing before they noticed you and Nancy heading over to them.
“Aw, look at that! The princess and the bitch.” Carol said with a smug look on her face, that you wanted to smack out of her before resisting your urges.
“Uh-oh! She looks upset!” Tommy joked as you all watched Nancy, who was a few meters ahead of you, come to a stop before Steve and slapped him across the face. You came to a stop a couple of meters behind Nancy, giving her the space she needed, but being ready for anything she asked.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked him.
“What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? I was worried about you. I can’t believe that I was actually worried about you.” he scoffed.
“What are you talking about?” she sounded confused over his words.
“I wouldn’t lie if I were you. You don’t want to be known as the lying slut now, do you?” Carol said and you’ve had enough.
“Watch it, Carol.” you stepped towards her, trying to seem intimidating, but she just glared at you, before something behind you caught her attention.
“Speak of the devil.” Tommy jumped off the steps he was on, landing right in front of you, and took a drag from his cigarette “Hi.” he smirked at Jonathan who had now come to a stop just behind you. He sent you a questioning look and you shook your head not knowing what the dick squad was implying.
But Nancy, after just a glance towards Jonathan, realized what this was all about “You came by last night?”
“Ding! Ding! Ding! Does she get a prize?” Carol said and the rest of her group smirked with her.
Even if you didn’t agree with anything they said or suggested, curiosity filled you as you looked at Jonathan this time for answers. Had he spent the night at Nancy’s? Is that the reason she was already in the car earlier this morning?
“Look, I don’t know what you think you saw, but it wasn’t like that.”
“What, you just let him into your room to… study?” it was clear Steve wasn’t buying anything Nancy was telling him.
“Or for another pervy photo session?” Tommy laughed and fists started forming in your hands.
“We were just-“ Nancy didn’t know how to finish her sentence and you understood why. What was she supposed to say? The truth? They’d think you’re even more nuts than they already did, and any other lie would be just that for Steve, a lie.
“You were just what? Finish that sentence.” he took a step forward, speaking even slower “Finish the sentence.” you watched Nancy not even able to look up at him and all you wanted to do was take her away from all of them. And that is what you started to do when Steve shook his head and told her to go to hell.
You touched her arm and softly pulled her away from the group in front of you, not wanting another scene to happen “Nancy, come on.” she responded to your touch and stepped along with you.
“Let’s just leave.” Jonathan spoke softly to the two of you, but Jonathan’s voice seemed to trigger something within Steve as he began speaking again.
“You know what, Byers? I’m actually kind of impressed. I always took you for a queer…” Steve pushed Jonathan’s back, but you took Nancy’s hand and continued walking, Jonathan following and trying to ignore what Steve was saying “… But I guess you’re just a-” you hear Steve push your friend again “-little screw up like your father. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that house is full of screw-ups.” you stopped hearing Jonathan’s footsteps and you turned to look at him frozen in his spot, Steve having a knowing look on his face, happy to hit the nerve he was searching for “You know, I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised. A bunch of screw-ups in your family”.
Nancy left your side and went next to Jonathan, trying to calm him down. On the other hand, you stepped over at Steve “Steve, stop it.” he only spared you a glance before he continued on with his rant.
“I mean, your mom… I’m not even surprised what happened to your brother.” only yesterday he was trying to apologize to you for the things his friends were saying. Now he was the one with the big mouth. People don’t change, especially assholes like Steve Harrington.
“Shut the fuck up, Steve!” you yelled at him but he ignored you as he pushed past you and walked behind Jonathan. You moved to step forward, ready to prevent the inevitable, but Carol came in front of you, stopping you in your tracks with a grin.
“Jonathan, leave it!” you heard Nancy yell. Your nerves were getting worse when you tried to step around Carol, but she blocked you again with a chuckle.
“I’m sorry I have to be the one to tell you, but the Byers-” you watch over Carol’s shoulder as Steve pushes him again across the back “-their family, it’s a disgrace-” and again “-to the entire-” this time it wasn’t a push that interrupted Steve’s words, but the punch Jonathan threw against his face, finally fed up with his words.
You gasped at the force and watched Steve take in what happened before he launched himself forward, grabbing Jonathan by his middle, throwing him on top of a car, and pushing him to the ground. Their fight continues as they roll in the dirt, kicks, and punches going in from every direction.
The sight pulls everyone’s attention, so you take your chance and step away from Carol. You all screamed at them to stop, only Tommy’s voice telling Steve to continue and kick your friend’s ass. The two boys get off the ground and Jonathan manages to land another hard punch in Steve’s face, almost making him fall to the ground again. You’re near Nancy again when you see Tommy walk over to them, ready to cover Steve, but Harrington just pushes his friend away, telling him to leave them.
Jonathan takes a deep breath and throws another punch, but Steve successfully ducks it and immediately throws one at Jonathan, getting him. Your friend though is quick to return it, blood appearing on Steve’s face. Worry fills your body seeing the sight of Jonathan’s bloody hand as he throws Steve another one.
“Jonathan, stop! Stop! You’re going to hurt him!” Nancy’s please echo through the alleyway, her desperation making you call out for them to stop as well.
But your yelling is pointless when you see Steve falling to the ground once more and Jonathan getting on top of him, throwing one punch after the other. It is then that you hear sirens in the distance. Someone must have called the cops on you. You share a look with Nancy and you move forward. Just then Tommy notices the sirens as well and informs his friends that the cops are coming.
“Jonathan! Come on! We need to leave!” you yell, but nothing seems to shake Jonathan out of this trance he’s in. Steve’s face is covered in blood from the punches, and you start pitying him.
Just then the cops stop their car before the scene and get out. You and Nancy don’t dare to step in to stop the fight, seeing as Jonathan shows no mercy, but Tommy doesn’t seem to care as he tries to tear him off Steve’s body “Hey, he’s had enough, man! I said he’s had enough!” but Jonathan just shrugs him off and continues.
One of the officers steps into the fight to stop it, but Jonathan accidentally elbows him on the nose. The cop falls back and cries out in pain. Finally, the other one is able to hold Jonathan down and stop him from hurting Steve more.
Tommy quickly grabs Steve off the ground, and they run off, escaping from the officer who started chasing them with ease. You, on the other hand, were glued to your spot as you watched the cop yank Jonathan on top of the car and cuff his hands behind his back.
___
They took you to the police station, not letting you and Nancy go until a guardian came to discuss everything with the officers, but you both agreed that getting your parents here was not an option, so you just settled on your chair, waiting to see what they would do about Jonathan. Not only was he involved in a fight, but he had also assaulted an officer, accident or not, so he was in much bigger trouble than you and Nancy.
It wasn’t until an hour later that Joyce and Hopper stepped into the station to see you three sitting behind one of the desks upfront.
“Jonathan? Jesus, what- what happened?” Joyce looked at all three of you with a concerned then angry glare. Your head fell, knowing there was no escaping her rage.
Jonathan just reassures her he’s fine, holding up the towel with ice cubes Nancy had gotten him, now fully wet.
“Why is he wearing handcuffs?” Joyce points to them and one of the officers from before, Callahan, steps forward.
“Well, your boy assaulted a police officer. That’s why.”
“Take them off.” the woman demanded, but Callahan immediately argued telling her he could not do that “Take them off!” Joyce repeats herself, and Hopper steps up.
“You heard her. Take ‘em off.” his voice is much calmer, but the officers don’t follow his order.
“Chief, I get everyone’s emotional here, but there’s something you need to see.” Powell, the other officer, tells him and guides him out of the station.
The three of you turn to look at Joyce, who just shakes her head.
“What happened?”
None of you said a thing for a moment, but her intense stare made you crack “We got in a fight. I mean, Jonathan got in a fight, we just stayed behind.” Jonathan turns his head and looks at you with a glared look “I’m sorry, I can’t hide anything from your mom.”
“Oh, Jonathan what were you thinking?” she came over and stood next to him to inspect his injuries. Jonathan was shrugging her off, saying he was just fine when Hopper arrived, this time holding up the box from Jonathan’s car. The one filled with the supplies they needed for the plan.
You grimaced as he threw it in front of you on the desk, the angry look on his face even more prominent now.
“What is this?” Joyce was the first one to speak, and she started going through the box, perplexed at what she saw in there.
“Why don’t you ask your son? We found it in his car.” Hopper was staring Jonathan down.
“Why are you going through my car?” Jonathan protested.
“Is that really the question you should be asking right now?” you and Nancy backed away a little when you saw Hopper leaning on the desk, his face ending right in front of Jonathan’s “I wanna see you in my office.” the chief started to walk away.
“You won’t believe me.” Jonathan called out, which made Hopper stop and lean before him once again.
“Why don’t you give me a try?” his voice intimidated you more than it should and you almost flinched when he looked at you and Nancy next “You’re coming too.” you nodded, and you all made your way upstairs and into Hopper’s office. He told you to sit down on the couch and removed Jonathan’s cuffs.
“Okay, now, talk.” these were his only words. He just stared at the three of you along with Joyce, waiting for someone to start explaining. You were sitting in the middle of the couch, turning to look at both Nancy and Jonathan, deciding what exactly you were supposed to tell them. Finally, Jonathan took the initiative and started explaining to them everything.
At some point, you ended up sending Callahan to retrieve your bag from Jonathan’s car. You opened it and gave Joyce the photo Jonathan had taken, which proved that the monster was real. Joyce looked at it for a second and passed it on to Hopper.
“You say blood draws this thing?”
“We don’t know.” Jonathan said.
“We’re not sure. It’s…” you followed.
“Just a theory.” and Nancy finished your thought.
“And what were you planning on doing, huh? Trap it and then kill it?” it felt like you were being scolded by Mom and Dad, which made all of you hold your heads down, unsure about your previous plans and hopes.
Joyce told Jonathan to follow her out of the office for a talk, which resulted in you and Nancy sharing a space with a frustrated Jim Hopper. You had never seen the chief of the police so shaken up about anything, then again Hawkins never required him to do anything else than just sit on his chair and drunkenly deal with civilians’ stupid problems. Now he had to figure out a way to save all of them from this thing before everyone disappeared from this town.
“Anything else you know about this?” he held up the picture and you turned to look at Nancy. She just shrugged believing you guys had nothing else to offer him not knowing that you had more information. That you’ve been withholding your knowledge about three other kids who were very much involved and probably knew more about all this than all of you.
You took a deep breath ready to tell the chief that you had let three kids get into this dangerous situation when someone’s yelling from downstairs interrupted you. You watched Hopper curse under his breath and exit the office to deal with the yelling, leaving you and Nancy alone, sitting next to each other. She was fidgeting her fingers and you were chewing your lip waiting to see what would happen next.
“What do you think is going to happen?” she asked you.
You turned to look at her, her frowning face making you mirror her, and she followed your gaze as you looked at the box on top of Hopper’s desk “I don’t know… but I’m afraid we went shopping for nothing.”
She cursed, shutting her eyes and falling back on the couch when Hopper opened the door harshly, instructing you to follow him.
___
On your way to Nancy’s house, Hopper explained that the woman who was yelling was a kid’s mother who had come into the station to complain about two other of his classmates and a girl with no hair. You immediately knew that he was talking about Eleven and the kids, but you kept your mouth closed as he explained to Nancy and you that your brothers were in this as well and, potentially, in danger. The last part was news to you, and you listened to him carefully explaining who he believes the girl is and what the government wants to do with her.
You knew Eleven was important but hearing all the things Hopper and Joyce had discovered sent shivers down your spine. How could someone be so cruel to a child?
Getting to the Wheeler’s residence you watched from the backseat of Hopper’s car all the agents who were outside talking on the radios and inspecting the area. It was maddening and you prayed to anyone out there to not let the same happen to your mother. You didn’t know what you would tell her if she questioned you.
“Look, we need to find them before they do. Do you have any idea where he might have gone?” Hopper pulled your attention back to the matter at hand when he asked Nancy about her brother’s whereabouts.
But your friend just shook her head “No, I don’t.”
“I need you to think.” Hopper insisted.
“I don’t know. We haven’t talked a lot. I mean, lately…” Nancy sighed as her words came to an end.
It was then that Hopper turned his attention to you. You were sure he sensed that you wanted to talk.
“Is there any place that your- your parents-” Joyce never got to finish her question when Hopper signaled with his hand for her to stop, his eyes never leaving yours.
“Y/n, do you know where your brother is?”
“I don’t… But I can ask.”
You got out of the car, opened Hopper’s trunk, and pulled out of your bag the walkie-talkie Dustin had given you. You went back into your seat, opened the radio, and started speaking.
“Dustin? Dustin, are you there?” you waited for a moment, but no one replied “Dustin, this is a code red. Are you there?” still your brother didn’t reply, and you were getting more anxious by the second “Dustin! Please, answer me. Do you copy?”
When nobody replied, Hopper took the radio out of your hands and started speaking “Listen, kid, this is the chief. If you’re there, pick up. We know you’re in trouble and we know about the girl. We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up. Are you there? Do you copy? Over.” but silence was all that followed as he handed it back to you “Anybody got any other ideas?”
However, as he finished his sentence, a voice filled the car through the walkie-talkie in your hands, but not the voice you were calling out for “Yes, I copy. It’s Mike. We’re here. We’re all here.”
___
Hopper dropped the four of you at the Byers house and you waited quietly for him to return back with the kids from the junkyard. The moment you heard an engine approaching, you stood up from your seat and ran out with the others. Hopper stopped in front of the house and you, and Nancy ran to greet your brothers, but while Nancy hugged him and told him how worried she was, you had a different approach.
“Why didn’t you immediately answer my calls? I said it was code red.” you pushed his hat down on his face and his hands went up to fix it.
“We thought it was a trap, like Lando Calrissian.” he explained, and you put your hands on your hips, looking both at him and Lucas.
“And what? You think I would sell you out like that? After everything that has happened?” you could see that he wasn’t happy he ignored you, you could also see where he was coming from. The military was chasing them, and they just wanted to make sure their friend would be safe. So, to ease the tension you put one of your arms around Dustin’s shoulders and the other around Lucas’, bringing them by your sides “Don’t be stupid, and never ignore me again. Come on.”
You made your way back into the house and settled near the kitchen table. Then Mike started explaining to the rest of you what they knew as he started drawing something on a piece of paper. When he finished, he held it and you could see that he had drawn a line across the white paper, a stick figure on top of it, and a dot below it. Firstly, he pointed to the figure.
“Okay, so, in this example, we’re the acrobat” then his market moved to the dot “Will and Barbara, and that monster, they’re this flea. And this is the Upside Down, where Will is hiding. Mr. Clarke said the only way to get there is through a rip of time and space.”
“A gate. That we tracked to Hawkins Lab.” Lucas told them before your brother chimed in.
“With our compasses.” you all looked at him confused “Okay, so the gate has a really strong electromagnetic field, and that can change the directions of a compass needle.”
“Is this gate underground?” Hopper spoke, but the kids just looked at each other, unable to answer as they didn’t know. But not Eleven.
“Yes.” her voice was small, but certain enough for Hopper.
“Near a large water tank?” the chief asked again and Eleven nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
“H-How do you know all that?” your brother stuttered.
Mike thought for a moment before answering a question that was originally meant for Hopper “He’s seen it.” Hopper didn’t say anything, but it was clear that what Mike had said was true.
“Is there any way that you could… that you could reach Will? That you could talk to him in this-” Joyce tried to remember what the kids had called it.
“The Upside Down.” Eleven answered her.
“Down, yeah.” Joyce nodded her words barely a whisper. She let out a sigh watching Eleven nod at her request.
“And my friend Barbara? Can you find her, too?” Nancy asked, hope in her eyes.
You all stood around Eleven while she focused on her powers, trying to find Will or Barbara. Mike had placed the radio in front of her, static filling the room, and there were also photos of them so it was easier for her to focus. Watching the lights flicker, you thought that you were heading in the right direction, but as Eleven opened her eyes and you saw her sad expression you knew that her attempt was unsuccessful. Her eyes started tearing up and you got up from your chair, and gently put your hands on her shoulders.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.”
You guided her to the bathroom but when you started closing the door for her, you were surprised to hear her call out for you. You understood that she didn’t want to be alone right now, so you simply smiled and nodded your head, following her inside. You opened the faucet and wet your hands before you crouched down in front of her and gently started wiping away the dirt from her face, when tears fell down her cheeks you immediately wiped them away too.
“Hey, it’s okay. You’re okay.” you reassured her.
“I’m sorry.” she said quietly, and you swore you could feel your heart breaking.
“Don’t be sorry, El… We’ll find them one way or another. You did great out there, all right?” you smiled up at her, your hands still cupping her face only falling from her when something caught her eyes, and turned to face the bath in the room.
“Are you okay?” you asked her.
But Eleven didn’t say a word, just grabbed your hand and exited the room, stopping before you entered the kitchen area where everyone was discussing Eleven’s powers.
“The bath.” Eleven said and you all turned to look at her.
“What?” Joyce asked her.
“I can find them. In the bath.”
So, the planning started. First and foremost, you had to figure out how to create a sensory deprivation tank, and that was where Mr. Clarke came in. Dustin called him and started asking him about it, masking it as pure interest. When the call ended you all sat around Dustin and discussed the details the tank required. Which resulted in you breaking and entering Hawkins Middle School.

Tumblr media
After your realization, you, Nancy and Jonathan talked about what you were going to do. But unfortunately, all three of you were too upset or confused to think about anything. Nancy was thinking about Barbara, Jonathan about Will, and all you could think about was Dustin’s words.
He confirmed to you that Will was definitely not dead. That they heard him. And it gave you hope. So much that it terrified you. If Will was alive all this time, then where was he? Did he encounter that creature? Was he hurt? Was Barbara there with him?
So many questions that you were determined you were going to answer, one way or another.
The three of you packed your bags and went on your own ways, promising to figure something out tomorrow after the funeral. Jonathan was going to go back to the funeral home to sort everything out, feeling a lot braver now that he knew more about Will’s disappearance. You and Nancy were heading back to her place, so you could talk to the kids and find more about what had happened.
“Hey, maybe it’ll be best if we don’t tell them.” Nancy’s words interrupted your movement. You were ready to open the door to the basement, when you turned to look at your friend “You know… To not get their hopes up…”
The irony. The kids right now knew more about Will than she did. Maybe more than you did. But you couldn’t put Eleven at risk. Not when you were so close, so you just nodded “Yeah, of course.”
She sent you a small smile. It looked like she was hesitant, as if she wanted to ask something more, but she stopped herself and went up her way to her bedroom after telling you goodnight. You watched her as she went up and only when she left did you finally walk into the basement.
“Y/N! Thank God, you’re finally here.” you heard your brother’s exaggerated voice say when he saw you on the staircase.
“You heard Will?” you cut right to the chase. You needed to hear what happened.
“Yes!” they all said in unison, only Eleven staying quiet watching the interaction happening before her.
“So, what did he say?” you urged them to continue.
“He was calling out for his mom. Said that where he was at was like home, but darker…” Mike explained, as he looked confused himself.
“And empty.” Lucas filled in.
“Empty and cold. Wait, did he say cold?” Dustin asked and your head went back and forth listening to them figuring out what Will had said.
“I don’t know. The stupid radio kept going in and out.” Lucas said with frustration.
“It’s like riddles in the dark.” your brother sighed.
You took a moment to yourself to think about what they said.
“You said home? Like his house?” you tried to make some sense over Will’s words.
“Or maybe like Hawkins.” Lucas suggested.
“Upside down.” suddenly, a new voice interrupted your conversation. Eleven had decided to join in, being cryptic as ever.
“What’d she say?” Lucas asked.
“Upside down.” Mike repeated Eleven’s words as if they started to make sense.
“What?” the boy asked again.
“Upside down. When El showed us where Will was, she flipped the board over, remember?” you watched as he walked towards the table and flipped the lying board over “Upside down. Dark Empty.” he looked at you expectingly.
“Do you understand what he’s talking about?” Lucas looked over at Dustin and yourself. Dustin didn’t get what was going on and you were lost in thought, recalling everything the strange little girl had told you.
You remembered when she flipped the board she had placed Will’s character on top of it and the piece of the Demogorgon. Then you had thought it was an analogy for something bad happening to him. A bad man as Mike had described it. But now you know it wasn’t that. The threat was real. An actual monster was running around Hawkins killing and kidnapping people. And it took Will to the one place you can’t see him.
“You think that Will is here?” you pointed at the black board, seeing Mike’s eyes light up when he realized you understood.
“It makes sense.”
“What makes sense?” Lucas was getting frustrated now.
“Think about it guys. When El took us to find Will, she took us to his house, right?” Mike began explaining, the rest of the boys trying hard to understand where he is coming from.
“Yeah. And he wasn’t there.” Lucas said as a matter of fact.
“But what if he was there? We just couldn’t see him?” you tried to explain, but left them more confused. Mike started talking again.
“What if he was on the other side. What if-” he flips the board so the right side is on top “…this is Hawkins and…” he flips it again so it becomes black “…this is where Will is? The Upside down.”
You looked over at the boys and finally saw Dustin realize what you two were saying “Like the Vale of Shadows.” he runs to grab one the books they use for their D&D games “The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a dark reflection or echo of our world. It is a place of decay and death. A place out of phase. A place of monsters. It is right next to you, and you don’t even see it.” he read the text.
“An alternate dimension.” Mike said.
“But- how- how do we get there?” Luca’s voice expressed the concern all of you had.
“We cast Shadow Walk.” you rolled your eyes at your brother.
“In real like, dummy.” Lucas told him.
“We can’t cast Shadow Walk, but… maybe she can.” He turned to look at Eleven, the rest of you doing the same.
“Do you know how we get there? To the Upside Down?” Mike asked, full of hope that we finally have a new lead. Unfortunately, all of you let your eyes fall to the ground when the young girl shakes her head ‘no’.
You saw the boys look at each other hopeless and you debated whether you should inform them about your information. You promised Nancy, you wouldn’t tell them anything, but they were the only people right now who knew as much as you. They also had the benefit of a girl with superhuman powers. You had to let them know how dangerous Hawkins has become, that your speculations about the Demogorgon were true.
“Not to make you more concerned, but… we are not the only ones that know about this.” their eyes widened as they turned to stare at you.
“What?” Mike asked.
“I was with Nancy and Jonathan today. Your sister had a picture of Barbara the night before she disappeared. Jonathan had taken it. When he did, he also captured something behind her. The thing that took her. The… ‘Demogorgon’.” you placed the piece on top of the black board.
“My sister knows?” the boy said in surprise.
“Wait. You have the Demogorgon on a photo?” your brother stepped in, focusing on another detail.
“Yes, she does, and no, I don’t, Nancy has it.” you explained.
“So… Barbara is gone too?” Mike’s face had softened, thinking of his sister’s friend. Another person to worry about, he thought.
“Yeah… I’m guessing after what we found out, she’s in the Upside Down as well.” at least, you hope.
“Did you tell them about…” Lucas pointed to the shaved girl behind them.
“I didn’t tell them anything. They believe they are the first ones to know about all of this.”
“Are you going to?” Mike questioned you.
“No. Yes. I don’t know.” this troubled you. You’ve been thinking about all the possible outcomes repeatedly and, still, aren’t sure what the best one is. “I don’t want them to be in danger. But maybe there is no other way.”
“If there is something out there, then we need all the help we can get.” Dustin said, being your voice of reason for once. He was right. There is nothing you could do alone with 3 kids. The only one who could be useful against this threat is Eleven, but she was a kid herself.
“What if they take Eleven away?” Mike was full of concern and everyone in the room could see it.
“I’ll make sure they don’t. I promise.” you didn’t want anything bad happening to Eleven and you would do anything so she could stay safe until you could trust someone with her wellbeing, away from the ‘bad men’. Still, Mike didn’t relax with your promise “Look, I’m just going to search the creature with them tomorrow and I’ll make up my mind then.”
“You’re going after the Demogorgon?” Dustin gasped out loud.
“We’re coming too.” Mike announced like it was an invitation.
“What?” Lucas had the same expression as you.
“No! No way. I only told you about this so you could be careful. No going into the woods by yourselves anymore. No crazy plans without consulting me first, okay? None of that. Tomorrow, you go to the funeral and then home. Nothing more nothing less.” you pointed you finger at all of them, making your words very clear “We can’t risk anyone else getting lost, okay? We need all the help we can get.” your eyes drifted to Dustin, remembering his words.
He knew what you meant. You were going to tell Nancy and Jonathan all about what you have been doing. Everything about Will, about the monster, the different dimension, and the girl. And he hoped they wouldn’t screw it up.
___
The funeral was… interesting.
It’s weird being there when you know the body inside the casket, isn’t the real one. That the person being grieved by so many, is still fighting for his life in an alternate dimension.
The kids were talking the entire time and you kept nudging Dustin to stop it so you wouldn’t stand out looking disrespectful.
When it ended, you told the kids to go to the wake, while you stayed behind with Jonathan and Nancy. You both watched Jonathan pull out a map with marks on it as you sat on the ground, graves hiding you from the people “This is where we know for sure it’s been, right?”
“So, that’s…” Nancy tried to focus on the different locations.
“Steve’s house.” he started pointing at the red x’s on the map “And that’s the woods where they found Will’s bike and that’s my house and here’s-”
“Where I almost saw it.” you remember the stiffness of your body when you sensed something was nearby.
“It’s all so close…” Nancy thought out loud.
“Yeah. Exactly. I mean, it’s all within a mile or something. Whatever this thing is, it’s… not travelling far.” Jonathan was holding back, but you both knew where he was going.
“You want to go out there.” the girl next to you said.
“What else are we supposed to do?” you questioned, wondering if this wasn’t the plan all along.
“We might not even find anything.” Jonathan tried to reassure her, but he had this look in his eyes. He wanted to take action.
“I found something. Y/n did when she wasn’t even looking. If we do see it… then what?” Nancy was concerned. You never saw her like this. It was now you figured where Mike got his nerves from.
“We kill it.” Jonathan was determined. He stood up and headed to his dad's car.
“What are you doing?” Nancy asked, looking around to make sure no one was watching the three of you.
“Just give me a second.” he told you. You leaned into the window watching Jonathan take out a gun from the glove compartment.
“Your dad has a gun?” you half whispered half yelled.
“Are you serious?” Nancy asked after hearing your words.
“What? You want to find this thing and take another photo? Yell at it?” Jonathan finally got out of the car, hiding the gun inside his jacket suit.
“This is a terrible idea.” you turned to look at Nancy’s worried face.
“We need to stop it. That thing has already taken Will, Barbara, and who knows who else… We have to make sure no one else gets hurt. Not another person we care about.” you were worried as well, but you knew if you didn’t act soon, even worse things were going to happen.
“Maybe we should…” you could tell Nancy was trying to reason with you two.
“What? You can tell someone, but they’re not gonna believe you. You know that.” Jonathan stopped Nancy’s words.
“Your mom would.”
“She’s been through enough.” your friend diminished her idea.
“She deserves to know.” your eyes fell to the ground at her words.
“Yeah, and I’ll tell her… when this thing is dead.”
You heard Nancy sigh, watched her as she thought before, finally, caving in “Okay, so, what do we do?”
“We meet back here in an hour.” he points at the map. You leaned over to get a good look “Get everything you can to protect yourselves.”
So that’s what you did. With everyone back at the wake, you had no one asking you questions about what you were preparing for around the house. You got rid of the black dress you had worn to the funeral and instead put on something more appropriate for… monster hunting. You grabbed a backpack and filled it an emergency kit, an army knife, and a water bottle. By the time you got everything, you still got forty minutes to spare, but you couldn’t sit down and wait, your nerves had your body in alert, so you decided to ride to the diner.
Walking inside you realized it was a slow day today. You figured everyone was at the wake, still a few of the regulars were eating or drinking their troubles away. As you scanned the area you noticed a couple that has never been in this diner before, and you dreaded your luck for stumbling in to them today.
Carol’s eyes rolled the moment she saw you and you did the same. You decided to utterly ignore them and sat at one of the stools in front of the counter, the farthest one from her and Tommy.
“I didn’t know you worked today.” Donna’s voice brought you back to reality. She looked tired today. Her curly dark hair was sticking out of her poorly made bun and the look in her eyes told you that she didn’t get any sleep yesterday. Probably her baby didn’t sleep that much either, keeping her up in the process. Still, she had her big smile on display, ready to face every obstacle in her way.
“I’m not, sorry. Just here for a coffee, won’t put you into too much trouble.”
“Oh, honey, you never do.” she filled a cup with the dark liquid and handed it to you “Did you go to the funeral?”
“Oh, yes. Yeah, I did. It was a great ceremony, but I left early. I couldn’t- you know.” you didn’t exactly know how to answer her question, given the fact that the funeral wasn’t real. So, you just played the card of being overly sad.
“Of course. Would you like some pie? Get your mind off things?” she suggested but you declined.
“No thank you, I can’t stay long. I have a brother to take care of.” technically you weren’t lying.
You continued chatting with Donna, when ten minutes later the door opened. Without thinking, you turned to look at the person who came in. Steve Harrington was standing at the entrance of the diner, looking around until he spotted his little group. You quickly turn your head, cursing your luck once again.
“What is up with that boy? You look flustered.” Donna joked when she saw how you reacted to the tall boy that entered the diner.
“Uh, no, I look annoyed. I really don’t like him.” you explained with a dreadful look on your face thinking about what she implied.
“Well, if there is nothing going on, could you be a dear and go these to his table?” you gave her an annoyed stare, but you could tell she didn’t have her usual strength today. With an exaggerated sigh you got up from your seat “Thank you. The salad is for the girl.”
“Of course, it is.” you took the two plates in your hands and slowly walked towards the trio. You handed the cheeseburger to Tommy and the salad to Carol with a loud thud. You wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, but she couldn’t not make a comment.
“You know, it doesn't surprise me that you would work here. It’s very depressing, like you.” she had this dumb smile on her face, acting like the queen of Hawkins.
You gave her a fake smile before returning the comment yourself “How’s that frostbite of yours? I really hope the pudding helped you get better.” you didn’t want to deal with her, so you just turned to Steve to take his order, knowing Donna would appreciate it “What would you like?”
“Um, just coffee, thanks.” you nodded, but before you could leave his voice stopped you “Did you see Nancy today?” you gave him a confused look “I mean, you- you did go to the funeral today, right?”
“Yeah. And yes, I saw her.” you sighed, wishing you weren’t having this conversation. You couldn’t shake out the image of him destroying Jonathan’s camera, that he worked so hard for.
“Do you think she’s upset about… yesterday? She kinda blew me off when I asked her to hang out today.” you seriously couldn’t believe he was concerned about that. He doesn’t know the real reason Nancy couldn’t go out with him, but still. Who asks someone out after they’ve gone to a funeral?
“Wow, I don’t know. Don’t you think that she could be grieving?” you said sarcastically and walked away giving your order to Donna. While you waited, you were still able to listen to them talk, or to be more precise, gossip.
“Bitch.” Carol’s insults amused you each and every time.
“How come you didn’t go with her?” Tommy’s words weren’t very clear, probably cause he was stuffing his face with his food.
“Where? To the funeral?” Steve spoke and after a small pause continued “I didn’t think Nancy would want me there after what happened. That’s why I went to console her later. But I guess she’s still mad.” Steve’s voice had lowered, you could tell he was concerned.
“Why would she be mad at you? You did the right thing by standing up for her.” Carol’s voice filled you with rage even if you found some kind of sense in her words.
“God, I still can’t believe what a creep he was. I mean who does that?” Tommy asked, still slurring his words.
“People who are sick in the head, obviously. I mean can you imagine what she has done.” you could tell she was referring to you by how her voice lowered. However, it didn’t stop you from hearing their conversation clearly.
“What does Y/n have to do with any of this? She looked just as shocked as the rest of us, guys.” Steve tried to reason with his friend as he noticed, from the corner of his eyes, how your body had tensed up.
“She hangs out with him, Steve. What more proof do you need that she’s coo coo too? Probably enjoyed the photos as much as him later.” you started shaking your leg up and down, trying to calm down your nerves. Do people really think so lowly of you. Do they hate you so much?
“You know they say the mom is nuts too?” Tommy’s voice entered the conversation again.
“The freak’s mom? Not surprised.” Carol said unbothered.
“What she do?” the other boy asked curiously.
“People caught her and the freak fighting whether the kid’s body is real or not. She pulled the same move at the police station. Kept yelling that ‘it isn’t him’ or something. She’s lost her mind.” you took a deep breath after hearing his words. Poor Joyce. If only everyone knew what she was going through. They have no right to characterize her like that.
“Maybe it’s generic. The apple doesn’t fall far away from the tree you know. I’m just actually glad the child is gone and doesn’t have to turn out like them.” that was the final straw for you. You forgot all about the coffee order, just grabbed your bag and left the diner, annoyed tears making their way down your cheeks. You turned left and stopped at the alleyway near the diner to calm yourself down before you had to go and find Nancy and Jonathan.
Steve had a clear shot on you walking out. He also noticed the tears that had formed on your eyes. He knew you didn’t exactly like him, he also wasn’t that nice to you in the past either, but Nancy had helped be more vulnerable with others. Help them as she has helped him. It’s one of the reasons he cares about her so much.
So, he decided to make an excuse to the couple in front of him and try to catch up with you. He looked left and right, trying to get a glimpse of your figure, when he noticed you hunched over with your hands on your face, your shoulders shaking.
“Y/n?” he slowly approached.
You were startled by his voice. You didn’t expect anyone coming after you, even so Steve being the one searching for you. You didn’t know what to say, so you just stayed silent after you stood up and faced the opposite direction.
“Look, um… I’m sorry about what the guys said. They really didn’t mean-“ you really weren’t gonna put up with his bullshit too.
“Oh, I’m sure they did. I’m sure they meant every word that came out of their mouths and I’m sure you’ve thought about those things too.” Your mind recalled every single time Steve had made you feel bad about yourself. How much his behavior changed in middle school when he realized how well respected his family was in this god-awful town. Everyone could tell he enjoyed the power it gave him, thought it made him look cool when he reminded everyone how much better he was than everyone else. You hated him when you were younger. Every time he would point at you and snicker with his friends you knew he was saying something mean. You also hated the fact that for a period of time you thought he was right, that you were all those things they were calling you. But now you weren’t that scared little girl anymore, you weren’t the new girl in town that everyone was picking on. Now you had the same hatred but were able to make yourself be heard. You were done letting them walk all over you.
“If this is about yesterday, you have to admit-” he tried to make his actions seem more justified, but it was your time to make him feel small.
“No, Harrington. This is about every single time you have looked down on one of us just because we don’t warship the ground you walk on. Just because you have a shitty family, doesn’t mean you can make fun of people who are in pain.” his face was shocked hearing you talk about his family, and you were glad. You had the upper hand and you wanted him to know he wasn’t the only one who could criticize another person “Oh yeah, you thought I didn’t know? My mother works long hours to take care of us, but one of her advantages is that costumers on her job talk… a lot. Your mother has been very chatty lately, going on and on about her cheating husband and screw up son, who apparently can’t do anything on his own. So don’t come acting as if you care when all you have ever done was make fun me.”
Steve didn’t think anyone knew about his shitty family other than his friends and it shocked him hearing these words come out of your mouth. He knows everything you’ve said is true, but he can’t just sit back and let him family take that kind of slander.
“You have no right to talk about my family.” he pointed his finger at you, maybe trying to intimidate you, but you just ignored it, pointing your own at him now.
“And you have no right to call a family nuts and delusional and, especially, make fun of a dead child.” Will wasn’t dead but he didn’t know that. You wanted him to feel like he was the villain in this whole thing.
“I never-” you didn’t let him finish his sentence.
“Go and tell your friends to stop bothering us.” you bumped your shoulder at his body, starting to walk away but stopped for a moment and looked at him “And stop pretending to be this helpless little boy, Harrington. Grow up.” with that as your final words, you made your exit.
___
When you arrived at the meeting place, Nancy and Jonathan were already there. It looked like they were practicing shooting. You were pretty shocked to see how good Nancy was at it. After you repeated the plan, you began walking into the dark forest. You knew you had to search fast since you lost daylight earlier than usual, wintertime finally arriving at your town.
You didn’t talk much. Jonathan was at the front leading, Nancy was in the middle and you were taking care of the back. The silence gave you the space you wanted to go over everything that happened today. You were glad you said everything you’ve been meaning to say to Steve, but you still felt angry at the nerve he had to come after you and taunt you even more. You also had to figure out a way to tell them everything you know about the Upside Down, everything was just a mess inside your mind. That was until Nancy spoke up.
“You never said what I was saying.” her voice echoed through the woods, clearly addressing Jonathan as she walked closer to him.
“What?” he questioned.
“Yesterday. You said I was saying something and that’s why you took my picture.” she tried to refresh his memory. You guessed they had a conversation about why he felt the need to capture such a private moment. You have been wondering the same thing, so you took a few steps towards them.
“Oh, uh… I don’t know. My guess… I saw this girl, you know, trying to be someone else. But for that moment it was like you were alone or you thought you were. And, you know, you could just be yourself.” the boy explained.
“That is such bullshit.” Nancy said and stopped in her tracks, making you almost fall into her.
“What?” Jonathan stopped as well.
“I am not trying to be someone else. Just because I’m dating Steve and you don’t like him-” she tried to defend herself.
“You know what? Forget it. I just thought it was a good picture.” your friend began walking again, away from the two of you.
“He’s actually a good guy.” Nancy continued and you couldn’t help yourself but scoff at her statement. She gave you a confused look, urging you to talk about what was on your mind.
“You don’t want me talking about your boyfriend right now, trust me.” you gave her a half smile and followed Jonathan, your hands grabbing the handlers of your backpack.
“Yesterday, with the camera… he’s not like that at all. He was just being protective.” you could tell Nancy was getting defensive. She caught up with the two of you and you turned to take a look on her face before continuing on.
“Yeah, that’s one word for it.” Jonathan snarked.
“Oh, and I guess what you did was, okay?” the girl gave Jonathan an angry look.
“No, I… I never said that.” he replied.
“He had every right to be pissed-”
“Guess he had every right to humiliate us as well.” you stepped in, sarcasm filling your words.
“He didn’t-” Nancy looked taken back by your statement for a moment before she spoke.
“Look, Nance, I know you are probably still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship, and you only see the good stuff, but your little boyfriend hasn’t been that nice to us in all the years I’ve known him, so don’t go around acting like he’s an angel sent from above.” you tried to remain calm, you didn’t want another fight to occur.
“Did something happen?” Nancy asked, looking a little worried.
“Yes, a lot of things happened today, and I don’t need you trying to convince us how great he is. I don’t think he’s a good person, okay? We don’t have to like the same people, you know.” you said, hoping she would drop everything, and you could just continue walking in silence searching for a deadly monster.
“Don’t take it personally, okay? We don’t like most people. He’s in the vast majority.” Jonathan said, wanting to come off as nice as he could, but Nancy didn’t see it like that.
“You know I tried not to believe what everyone else was saying about you two, but I guess they were more correct than I thought. ‘The creep and the weirdo’.” Her words made your legs stop, your body filling with betrayal.
“Nancy...” Jonathan said slowly, warning her.
“Maybe you were more involved in this whole thing than you want me to believe.” her words were now directed towards you, and you knew what she was talking about. No, she hadn’t figured out about your position with the search, how you knew more than the other two of the group about the monster and Will, she was talking about your promise to her that you had no idea Jonathan had taken those pictures.
“You know that I would never do something like that to you.” you always thought you were a good friend, at least to those who deserved it. Sure, you weren’t the kind of person to not call out someone for their bullshit, but you were also gonna be there for them, help them recover and get better.
“They why are you in his side? He was the creep.” she pointed to your friend, but before you could get a word out, he had stepped in between you two.
“Okay! I did a bad thing, but there is no reason to take it out on her. I was alone that night. You don’t have to be so naïve and believe everything you hear.” Jonathan took you by the arm and started moving again.
“I can’t believe I was actually starting to think you were okay.” Nancy had begun walking again, keeping her distance from you two.
“Yeah? I was thinking the same thing.” Jonathan responded.
“Oh.” Nancy scoffed as they both turned to look at each other, stopping their walk.
“I was thinking, “Nancy Wheeler, she’s not just another suburban girl who thinks she’s rebelling by doing exactly what every other suburban girl does. Until that phase passes and they marry some boring one-time jock who now works sales, and they lice out a perfectly boring little life at the end of a cul-de-sac. Exactly like their parents, who they thought were so depressing, but now, hey, they get it.” the girl’s eyes wanted to show anger, act as if she didn’t care, but you knew Nancy well enough to know he got to her. You knew all of you had a lot on your heads, but you couldn’t deal with anything else or more, so you just kept on walking, Jonathan at some point catching up to you.
You walked in silence for a couple of minutes, enjoying the stillness of the air around you.
“Are you okay?” you asked him, giving him a side glance.
“Maybe. You think I went too far?” he asked back.
“Honestly I’m not one to talk, I’ve said some bad stuff as well.” you gave him a small smile telling him it was okay.
“Did something really happen earlier?” he questioned after a minute, remembering your words to Nancy.
“I’m really just picking fights today.” you sighed and after seeing his look you knew he wanted you to keep talking “Steve, Tommy, and Carol came into the diner today and they were saying the most awful things about your family. I left the place in tears and Steve decided to follow me, so I just snapped and said some awful things back.” you skipped over the things they said about you, it didn’t really concern him.
“You know I don’t care about them or their words.” he told you.
“But I do. I can’t keep running away, Jonathan. I won’t be that person anymore.” you promised yourself you were going to stand up more about yourself and the people you loved, and you were going to keep that promise until the day you died.
___
The day had turned into a lightless night, not even the moon’s light was able to guide you through this forest. Since the fight none of you really said anything else, just keeping it quiet. You were still up front with Jonathan and Nancy was behind you, now close behind, afraid to not lose you to the darkness.
Your mind wandered off to the kids. You had decided to not take the walkie with you, telling yourself that if Dustin called you and the monster was near, it wouldn’t be good for your cover. Also, you told them not to do anything without you, so as far as you know they are all safe in their homes.
All of a sudden, you noticed a pair of feet had stopped walking. You turned and saw Nancy with her scrunched down eyebrows trying to focus on something.
“What are you tired?” Jonathan said sarcastically, clearly, he hasn’t calmed down from the fight.
“Shut up.” Nancy said back, quickly.
“What?”
“I heard something.” you stayed silent, all three of you, searching for the sound Nancy was talking about, when you heard it.
“From there.” you pointed to the direction of the sound with your flashlight. The whimper was becoming clearer and clearer as you followed it. You all feared you’d come across something monstrous, but you soon found out it was just a wounded deer. A gasp left your lips once you saw it in its state.
“Oh, God…” Nancy said as you all kneeled before it, taking a good look “It’s been hit by a car.” she softly petted the animal “We can’t just leave it.” there was a moment of hesitation in her movement as she prepared to gather on her courage and aim her gun at the poor animal. Just as she was about to do it, Jonathan stopped her.
“I’ll do it.”
“I thought you said-”
“I’m not nine anymore.” you looked at them as Jonathan grabbed the gun from Nancy’s hands and you wondered what kind of secrets were shared between them.
You all stood up, preparing for the gunshot, when the deer was snatched from beneath you.
“What the fuck?” you took a couple steps back in surprise.
“What was that?” Nancy questioned as you began following the trail of blood it left behind “Where’d it go?”
“I don’t know. Do you see any more blood?” Jonathan asked.
“No.” the other girl answered.
You continued looking for the trail with your flashlight but to no avail. However, when you looked up you didn’t see anything else other than branches and trees. You had walked further away that you had thought and were now separated from your trio. You took a deep breath, suppressing your panic as you started looking for some clue as to where they were. When suddenly you heard someone scream out your name.
“Nancy?” you called back and were finally able to spot someone else, though it wasn’t the girl who was yelling for you.
“Jonathan? Where’s Nancy?” you jogged up to him, cold sweat filling your body from fear and adrenaline. He was carrying her bat.
“I- I don’t know! She just disappeared.” she screamed out again “Nancy? Nancy! Follow my voice!”
You kept on calling and screaming out her name, searching with your lights to find her. Your gaze fell upon a tree that was covered in slimy stuff and something told you that was what you’ve been searching for. You pointed it out to your friend and run to take a better look, when a hand came through the trunk, scaring you both.
“Y/n! Jonathan!” her voice was coming from deep inside the trunk.
“Nancy? It’s Nancy!” you called out and dropped everything from your hands to go and help her. You grabbed her hand and with Jonathan’s, you two were able to pull her out.
She was covered in that slime and her shoulders were shaking from sobbing when her body fell into yours, hugging you tightly. Her force almost made you fall back, but Jonathan’s hands steadied you “Hey, hey, it’s okay, you’re okay.” you tried to reassure her, but something caught your attention. The gate from where she had appeared, closed before your eyes. You glanced up at Jonathan just to make sure you didn’t imagine it, but the expression on his face told you it was real. And you were certain it had everything to do with the Upside Down.
___
After the original shock of the situation, you all had a silent agreement that the night was over, the searching had to wait, and it was time to head back home. None of you talked while you were cautiously walking through the woods again, the only human sound were the occasional sniffles coming from Nancy who was still clinging onto you, fearing you’d leave her if she didn’t keep you near.
Despite everything that had happened earlier you weren’t gonna make her feel anything else other than safe. You couldn’t imagine what she had seen down there.
You all got inside Jonathan’s car. Both you and Nancy sat on the backseats, your hands clasped as you remained silent. That ended when Jonathan stopped outside of your house.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay with you?” you asked her one more time.
“Yes, I’ll be okay. I’ll see you tomorrow.” she gave you a weak smile and you responded with a final squeeze of her hand. You told them both goodnight, but she grabbed your hand before you could open the door “About what I said earlier to you and you, Jonathan, just know-”
“I didn’t believe a word you said.” you reassured her. You forgot all about your fight the moment you heard her scream out your name. You were just glad she was there with you and not still trapped in the Upside Down “Now, get some rest. Goodnight.”
Walking into your house was tricky. It was pretty late at night, and you decided to keep the lights off until you reached your room. Your mother and brother were asleep. You debated whether or not you should knock on Dustin’s door and tell him everything that had happened but decided it would be best to let him have a good sleep for once after everything that has happened. Who could have told you that the party and him completely ignore your words, went into the forest, fought with each other and lost the one person you were all trying to keep hidden and safe.

New Journey (S.H) Chapter 1 Season 4
Pairing: Steve Harrington x henderson!reader
Summary: Back to Hawkins for spring break. Y/n believed it would just be a quiet time to cherish with her loved ones, but one day in and another mess had already began.
Warnings: cursing, mentions of drugs, slight smut at the end
Notes: Back with season 4! Okay so I really liked writing this chapter, especially because I did something I have never done before. I wrote smut. Not full on, but I think for the amount I wrote I did pretty good. Go easy on me, I'm new. I want to warn everyone that there is some 'shit talk' about Eddie in this (don't attack me lol). Oh, I also have little to no knowledge about basketball and how the games work on the U.S., so if I made any mistake let me know! I hope you are safe out there and please enjoy the chapter! 💕

Prologue << New Jounrey Masterlist >> Chapter 2
Tumblr media
“Steve, phone!”  you called for your boyfriend to answer the ringing phone besides you. You were sitting by the counter, silently reading the descriptions on some of the movies Steve had lying around, trying to find something interesting for you to watch.
“Yep. Comin’!” you turned to see him as he slightly jogged towards the counter. He was previously rearranging some of the displays around the store. He says it was the perfect time to do it because not many people showed up to the store during lunch time. He passed by you, giving you a quick kiss, which made you smirk, before he answered the phone “Hello, this is Family Video, how can I help you today?”
“How professional.” you whispered, teasing him at how much his voice changed when he wanted to be serious for the costumers. He bit his lip, looking at you, fighting back a laugh, when recognition filled his eyes “Oh, hey, man, how’s it going?” you wondered who was on the other line, but your boyfriend’s next words made it clear “Nothing much, just planning on spending it with your sister.” he smiled and took hold of your hand, playing with your fingers as he listened to your brother’s words.
“No.” was the only thing Steve said after a minute of silence on his line. You were more than certain that Dustin was trying to make him do something Steve had no intention of doing whatsoever.
“What, so I can hang out with you and Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson? Uh, yeah, I’ll pass.” the boy in front of you scoffed.
‘Wait- Munson?’ you thought to yourself.
“Who?” you were shocked.
Of course you knew Eddie Munson. He was a year older than you and Steve yet still in High School. He was the one you went to for any kind of drug your heart desired. Buying from him were the only times you ever interacted. You didn’t truly know him; you never felt the need to. You had your friends, and he had his. But you always considered him as dangerous. Dealing with drugs was one thing, but the way he also acted at times, made you wary. You didn’t like judging people (especially after you saw a different side to the Steve your sixteen-year-old self knew), but nothing about Eddie made you feel safe.
You looked at Steve as he continued with his conversation. His face scrunched up “Ew. Ugh. Whatever. Look, there is no way I’m doing anything besides being with Y/n for the next days, so I’m out of the question.” his words would have made you smile cheekily, if you were focused on a certain matter. What was Dustin doing with a drug dealer?
Suddenly a sound caught your attention. Customers had entered the shop “Oh, I got some customers. I’ll call-” his words were cut short as he listened to Dustin speak, then his eyes fell on you and his brows lifting upwards. He must have connected the dots at your frustrated look “Yeah, I don’t know if that’s the best idea, but here you go.” he handed you the phone, before leaving to greet the customers.
“Hello, Dustin.” you said your voice steady, your elbows leaning on top of the counter.
“There she is! My great sister, who surprised us today. It’s so great having you back.” he was trying to butter you up so you would agree at his every request, but you weren’t having it.
“Why didn’t you tell me you knew Eddie Munson?” you went straight to the point you wanted to make.
“What? I told you about Eddie.” Dustin was confused at the new topic of conversation. The only thing he wanted was to find a person to fill in Lucas’ spot so he wouldn’t disappoint his new friend.
“No, no. You told me about an Eddie, not about Munson. How did this happen?”
“He’s the one who organizes the Dungeons & Dragons campaigns.” he simply replied “Which bring me back to my question. Wouldn’t you prefer to ditch St-” you cut him off.
“Dustin, I don’t think it’s good for you to be around him.” as the bigger sibling you always felt the need to express your opinion about something, especially if that involved a stupid thing your brother was doing.
“Why not?” he sounded hurt. He really enjoyed Eddie’s company. He even thought that one day you’d meet and be friends together. He tried pushing Steve to hang out with them more, but he always said the same thing ‘Why would I want to hang out with Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson?’. He thought you’d be more open minded, and not just like everyone else. Maybe he was wrong…
“He’s a drug dealer, Dustin, need I say more?” you pressed on the matter.
“He’s not like how everyone else think he is. If you agree to be our sub tonight at the final campaign, then you’ll see that’s he’s actually pretty cool.” he hoped you’d agree and see for yourself, Eddie wasn’t a bad person. He was someone he looked up to. Someone he could relate to.
His words confused you “Wait? Tonight? Are you telling me that you will not be at the game tonight? The one where one of your best friends is playing in?”
“Uh…” your brother didn’t know who to respond. He hated missing the game, but D&D was more important right now.
You really wanted to make him come to his senses, but Steve’s words rang in your mind. He’s not a kid anymore. You don’t have to shield him away from the unknown. You knew if Dustin was ever in actual trouble, Steve would help him out, and given the fact that he hasn’t done anything about Munson means that he’s not as big of a threat as you believed he’d be. You sighed “If you’re not going to be there for Lucas, then I have to. You’ll need to find someone else to join you, Dusty.”
“Okay. I’ll go check if Mike had any luck finding someone.” the line got quiet. You didn’t like disappointing Dustin, you always wanted to see him with a huge smile on his face, but sometimes things don’t go your way. You opened your mouth to wish him luck with his game before hanging up when he beat you to it “I’m gonna go now… And Y/n? He’s a good person. You know I can realize when something is dangerous.” he said and hung up the phone.
You really didn’t give this kid enough credit. He’s been through so much, seen so many things, that you didn’t need to worry about every single thing that bothered you. He knew what was right and what was wrong.
“He didn’t tell you about Munson?” Steve voice pulled you away from your thoughts. He always knew what troubled you.
“He told me about an Eddie that he became friends with. He didn’t tell me it was Munson.” you turned to face him, your body leaning against the counter. He walked slowly towards you, taking your hands in his.
“He’s not bad. At least, based on what the kids tell me. Just crazy enough to want to hang out with them.” he laughed, and a smirk appeared on your lips.
“Well, then we’ll hit it off better than I thought!” you told him sarcastically. His smile didn’t leave its place as his palms found your hips, bringing his body closer, but not as close as you both would have preferred since there were still customers searching for a movie around the store.
“You worry too much.” he whispered making you scoff.
“It’s practically my job to worry about you guys. You’ll be dead without me, quite literally.” you were merely joking, yet the haunted memories that flushed in front of your eyes made your head fall downwards.
“If anything were to happen, Dustin would have talked to one of us. You know that.” he assured you, his long fingers cupping your chin and pushing it up.
“Yeah… I do.” you took in a deep breath as you looked up into his eyes. They were as sweet as honey while he stared down at you. He smiled and kissed your temple bringing your body into his arms for the umpteenth time that day (not that you were complaining).
“Just hang on one more hour and when Keith starts his shift, I’ll take you out for lunch before we need to get ready for the game tonight. How does that sound?” he pulled back a little to take a glance at your smile.
“It’s sound perfect.” you answered, kissing his chin in the process. Steve loved little sweet gestures like that, made him feel special and important.
“You’re perfect.” he returned your action with a kiss on your left cheek before you were interrupted by a customer clearing their throat to get Steve’s attention. You hid a smirk and stood besides Steve, leaving enough room between the two of you.
“So! What movie have we chosen today?” Steve claps his hands to break any uncomfortable tension, after the man caught you in such a state. He takes the movie from the counter to check it on the program before charging him “‘Back to the Future’? Oh, definitely recommend watching it, just not with your mom.” he laughed and looked at the man in front of him, expecting him to do the same, but looking confused when he didn’t receive anything back “You know, cause… the guy goes back to the future and like almost bangs him mom?” still no comment from the person in front of him whatsoever. Steve gave up trying, just asked him for his information and told him the total of the price.
You held your hand to your mouth, trying not to let out any laughter as the customer grabbed the movie from Steve’s hand and handed him the needed amount, then left quickly.
“What’s his problem?” Steve asked, eyes still on the glass door where the man walked out from.
“Well, some people actually like to watch the movie to learn the plot, not hear it from a stranger in a funny vest.” you chuckled, your fingers making their way on top of your boyfriend’s chest, straightening the vest he had on.
“Hey! This is high quality, I’ll have you know.” he played along with your joke.
“I can tell.” you teased, and his smirk stayed on his face until his lips fell on top of yours, muffling your giggles.
___
“Robin!” you were more than excited to see your friend again. You and Steve decided to arrive at school a little bit earlier than most of the students who’d want to watch the match would. You walked aimlessly through the corridors of your old school, telling stories to each other you already knew. At last, you went to the basketball court to look for your dear friend.
Right now, the only people in the school were the basketball team, both your team and the school’s opponent, warming up for the game, the band kids, who were chatting before they had to take their place at the stands and the journaling team, ready to take down notes for the paper tomorrow. Oh and, of course, the ‘Hellfire Club’ was somewhere hidden amongst the school grounds. You had insisted to drive them here, but Dustin refused. Steve joked that he didn’t want to be seen with us anymore since we’re old, and Dustin agreed just to spike him. You laughed at them, appreciating every second you had with these two. They were a hell of fun to be around, you missed them a lot.
“Henderson!” Robin smirked at you and hugged you after you ran towards her. Robin was the one of the people you hadn’t seen in months, and you were so happy to hear her laugh again. She hasn’t changed one bit, only her hair was a bit shorter now.
“How have you been?” you pulled away from her embrace, smiling at her. Steve had gone to catch up with his old coach, so it was just you and her talking.
“You know, trying to survive, as always. God, college suits you.” she chuckled as she started up and down at you. She referred to your ‘new look’. It wasn’t like you rebranded yourself the moment you went to college. You hated people who changed just to fit an image in their minds. But you definitely felt freer, making you more confident in your looks and behavior.
“Oh, stop it. Look at you, green is your color.” you looked down at the costume she was wearing for the band and giggled as she rolled her eyes.
“You have no idea how itchy I am right now.”
You continued catching up, Steve now back into your little group. You talked about your classes at college and your new friends, while she told you all the embarrassing stuff your boyfriend does at work.
“And then he told the woman that Vader is Luke’s father. She left the store in tears!”
“Oh my God, that poor woman.” you felt bad for her yet couldn’t hold in your laughter.
“I apologized for that and let her take the movie without paying. It was an honest mistake.” Steve defended himself and you took his hand in yours as a way to tell him it was okay, you were just teasing.
“You really need to stop ruining people’s movies at some point.” your eyes fell on Steve as he was laughing towards you sarcastically.
“Wait, he did it again?” Robin asked, but before you could answer, a voice interrupted your conversation.
“Hey, Robin! The teacher wants us to take our places.” you all turned to look at the girl, noticing more and more students coming through the doors, taking their place at the stands.
“Y-yeah! Coming, Vickie!” Robin’s voice wavered and the name she used made you gasp.
“Is that the girl you like?” you had a dumb smile on your face. Robin didn’t like talking about these things out in the open, where someone might hear you, but your voice was just a whisper, only for you three to hear.
“You told her?” Robin whined and hit Steve’s arm
“Yeah.” he answered as a matter of fact.
“She seems nice.” You took another glance at the girl before seeing Robin blush just a little bit.
“She is, but that’s not- It doesn’t matter!” she told you, stammering over her words.
“It does, when there is something going on between you two.” Steve said with a sly smile, just to irritate her.
“There is nothing-” a voice called for her again. You friend sighed, pointing her finger at Steve “I gotta go. I’ll deal with you later.”
Both you and Steve chuckled as you watched her make her way to the bleachers, conveniently standing right next to Vickie “Oh, she must be thrilled.” Steve noted.
“Hey, look, it’s Lucas!” you pointed towards your younger friend. He was stretching with some other guys from the basketball team when his eyes fell on you two. You smiled and waved. Lucas looked excited to see you. This game was important to him. He felt like tonight was his night. His final chance to make himself be seen. He thought no one was gonna be there for him except his parents. Seeing you and Steve made him happy and gave him the courage to not give up. He waved back and carried on with his warm-up. He would catch up with you later.
“Ready to go sit down?” Steve placed his hand on the small of your back when you nodded in agreement. After sending thumbs up to Lucas you made your way on the stands. You sat down and let your eyes roam through the students that were walking beside you and on the court. You remembered all your previous games here, the one most memorable last year.
The basketball team hadn’t made it to the finals, but there were still some friendly games happening. The one you were referring to was the last one of the year, it also was the last one Steve was going to play in. He was already sad about not making it into the final teams of the championship game, adding the fact that he was graduating too, made it even more emotional. So, you made it your mission to give him one of the happiest memories you could. You gathered the kids and made banners cheering him on. All night long people could hear clapping and yelling coming from where you were sitting, it made people stare at you funny, even gathered some comments from Steve’s ex friends, Tommy H. and Carol (God, you still despised them), but in the end it didn’t matter.
It didn’t because Steve ended up making the final shot. Your school won by two points and you had never seen Steve jump up in the air that high in your life. He was so happy to win, he was happy to be with you there, he was happy to see the little shitheads cheering him on and he was happy to finally see his father smile at him.
You still remembered how he ran up to you, embracing you with all the strength he had left and dipping you down to kiss you. You remember how whole you felt, all the worries about your relationship’s future leaving your body. Just focusing on you and him.
“Why are you smiling like that?” his voice pulled you away from your thoughts. You turned to look at him, placing your head on his shoulder, still smiling like an idiot.
“No reason.” he chuckled and kissed your forehead “So, how does it feel?” your intention today was to tease him, so that’s what you were going to do.
“How does what feel?” his words were innocent, not knowing where your mind was at this moment.
“That right after you graduated, we might actually win the Championship. Do you think it was just to spite you?” you smiled and looked at his face. He tried not to act at your words, finally catching up to your games. He just kept on facing the court, eyes away from your lingering gaze, because he didn’t know what he would do if he looked at you right now. All day you have been sharing touches along with soft or fierce kisses and he couldn’t wait to just be alone with you.
“It doesn’t bother me.”
“Really? Doesn’t it bring up doubts of whether you were good enough or not?” your fingers started drawing shapes on his thigh, not caring as more and more people were gathering around you, ready to watch the game. Your movements made shivers run up and down his spine, but he took a long breath not to show anything.
“Now I know you’re lying, because you’ve seen me on the court, and you can never seem to keep your eyes away from me.” finally his own eyes met yours, after he decided to tease you as well, but you weren’t backing down.
“Still, you haven’t won a Championship game.” he knew not to take your words seriously. You had that look in your eyes, the one that always drove him crazy. He knew you were teasing and his thoughts were confirmed when your lips were placed next to his ear, whispering with a low voice “But it doesn’t matter, because the only score that counts tonight isn’t on the court.” you placed a wet kiss on the spot right down his ear and smirked when you heard him inhale quickly.
His tongue ran over his front teeth and sighed with a devilish grin on his face “You’re insufferable.”
“You love it.” you gave him a quick kiss, just so he could take a taste and turned to look down on the court again.
At last your principle came on the court, meaning the game would soon start “Everyone now please rise for our national anthem.” you all replied to his request by standing up “Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own Tammy Tompson!”
Your and Steve’s mouth hang open as you watched the girl enter the court and make her way to the microphone. After Robin confessed her true feelings about love to Steve, he hadn’t stopped bringing it up just to see if their tastes were similar.
At some point the conversation went to past crushes and Robin told him all about her past ‘hatred’ towards him. About how the girl she liked only had eyes for him even though she knew she would be better for her. That girl was Tammy Tompson. Steve was shocked to hear that, not because Robin believed she would be better than him, but because he couldn’t get past a certain trait of hers. Her singing voice. He argued that she sounded like a Muppet and now hearing her sing you could definitely see his point.
You watched Steve as his head turned to Robin who was already looking at him, knowing where this was going “Told you. Muppet.” he mouthed over at your friend and she grinned accepting her defeat.
“Okay, she does sound like a Muppet.” she replied back and you tried to control your laughter. After a painful minute of listening to the anthem, the game started.
___
“Oh, come on! What was that?”
The game was going smoothly up until one of the opponent team’s players hurt one of your own. Steve’s comment was buried along with all the other people calling out the injury. Your player was too hurt to continue so your team’s coach signaled for another player to take his place. You were beyond excited to see Lucas running to take his spot.
“Go, Sinclair!”
Point after point, shoot after shoot, the game was at its last period. The score was 69-68, visitors winning by one point. You cursed under your breath as you watched Jason, the leader of your school’s team, miss his shot with only a few seconds on the clock. Luckily not all hope was gone.
You watched the ball fall into Lucas’ hands, and he moved away from the players, finding a place where he had a clear shot. You held onto Steve’s arm begging he’d take the shot just in time. There were only 3 seconds on the clock when he got the ball and on the very last second, he swung his arms, shooting towards the net. The clock went off, but the points would still count if he made it. It felt like time went slower as all the people were staring at the ball. It bounced on the hoop, but it was clearer than day, the ball got in, ending the game at 71-69, your team winning. You jumped up and down cheering for Lucas’ winning shot.
You watched as his teammates and coach congratulated him, how he hugged his mother and father and how his eyes search for you in the crowd. You grabbed Steve’s hand and jogged down towards the star of the night.
“You were incredible!” you smiled and hugged Lucas, not paying any attention to his sweaty body.
“It was an awesome shot, kid. Congrats.” Steve high-fived him and Lucas grinned at the two of you excitedly.
“Thanks! I’m so happy to see you!” he hugged you one more time and then left to go cheer with his fellow teammates.
“What a game, huh?” a feminine voice said next to you.
“Nancy!” your arms pulled her into a tight hug. Over the months you have barely spoken to her, but you both knew that it doesn’t matter how often you talk. You will always be friends. You will always be there when any of you need it.
“Hey! I saw you and came to say hello. It’s very good to see you.” Her eyes drifted at Steve for a moment, sending him a quick smile to greet him. He sent her a wave, just standing behind you, giving you time to talk.
“You too! Congrats on the college acceptance, by the way. Are you excited?” you took a good look at her. Her hair was a bit longer, and she wore her college’s sweatshirt. A pen and notebook in hand to take down any notes she needed for tomorrow’s paper. Still the Nancy you knew.
“Very! I’ve been meaning to ask you a few things about college. We should meet up.”
“Of course! Hey, how is Jonathan? I haven’t spoken to him for a quite some time.” you and Jonathan were once best friend, but times change. You still loved him and his entire family to bits, but you don’t really hold the title as his ‘best friend’ anymore. You both have changed but made a deal to talk as often as you could. Those phone calls mostly involved stories about your new lives, friends, and your families. Sometimes Joyce, Eleven and Will would join the call wishing you the best or asking you question about your life there. You loved every single thing about these calls. But sometimes your conversations would center around fears and worries. You may not be best friends anymore, but you would always understand each other’s feeling, talking with no fear of judgement. You knew that moving to California was a big and weird change for him and he has been feeling a little distant from everything. Even his relationship with Nancy.
You lied. You had talked to him just a week ago. He told you everything one night he called when he was very high (he didn’t admit it, but you knew him all too well). He had just gotten his acceptance letter to Lenora Hills Community College, even though his plan was to go to the same one as Nancy, Emerson College. He was worried that if he told her the truth, she would give up her dream for him. You called him stupid for lying to his girlfriend and for underestimating her logical thinking. So, you decided to see her point of view. Those two have been in love ever since they truly saw one another and you wanted to help them, you didn’t want them to do the same mistake you and Steve did last summer.
Your plan was to just mention him for now, see how she reacts up front to his name. You couldn’t tell her Jonathan’s secret, as it wasn’t yours to tell. You only wanted to advise her for the best, since you were pretty sure she would have worries too about what’s about to come. You knew you did last summer. You had no one to guide you back then and you wanted to be that person she could trust now.
“Oh, he’s great. We’re great. Just waiting for the big news from him too!” you could tell her small laughter at the end wasn’t entirely genuine. Her smiled wavered before she pointed back at the court “I must go now, paper to print tomorrow.” she waved the pen and notebook, school duty calling for her. You bid her goodbye, telling her you’d call to set a date for your meet up, when Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into his body, lips landing near your ear.
“Should we uh… get going too?” his voice was soft, just for you to hear. You giggled as he pressed kisses on your neck and cheek.
“God, Harrington, get your head out of the gutter.”
___
A little while later you and Steve were outside of his house. His parents were on a business trip once again, so in his words it was ‘the perfect place for a quiet night’. He had made his way upstairs, wanting to clean up a bit, while you called home. Your mother answered. You informed her you were back at Steve’s place safe and sound. She knew you were going to spend the night there; you had told her over the dinner you all had before going to the game. She made you promise her to not do anything stupid while sleeping at his house and you just smiled and nodded. She was now telling you her ‘protection’ lecture once again when you heard a door open and close from the other line.
“Hey, is Dustin back home yet?”
“Oh, yes, he just arrived. How was the game, Dusty?” there was some muffled talking before you could hear clearly again “Wait, Dustin, your sister is on the phone. Tell her goodnight.”
“Hey, where are you?” he sounded a bit out of breath, probably from the excitement and riding back home.
“I’m at Steve’s, I’m spending the night here.”
“Oh. Oh. Ew, don’t let the whole neighborhood hear you.” he joked and you rolled your eyes.
“I’m just going to ignore that. So, how was the game?” your body leaned against the wall next to the phone as you listened to him go on and on about tonight.
“We won! Yeah, it was crazy. So it turns out Vecna wasn’t really dead. Eddie brought him back into the campaign as the last battle and at the end it was only me and Erica still fighting. I lost, but she managed to score a twenty! A fucking twenty, Y/n! So, Vecna- Yeah sorry mom.” You laughed as you heard your mother’s voice saying language “Yeah, anyway. We defeated him at the last second. Even Eddie seemed impressed, it was unbelievable.” his giggles filled your ears making you fondly smile at your brother, glad he couldn’t see you because you knew he’d tease you even more. Teenagers are mean at this age.
“Wow, sounds like one hell of a campaign. We had some fun too.”
“Oh, yeah, how was the game? We didn’t get to see Lucas after…” you could tell he was genuinely pretty upset to not see his friend at the game.
“He made the shot and scored our final points, making Hawkins win.” you announced excitedly.
“Woah, that’s great!” he had a big smile on his face, but a bit of guilt had grown in the pit of his stomach.
“Yeah! Maybe you should call him? Let him know you’re happy for him. What do you say?” you urged him.
“Yeah… That’d be a good idea. I’ll call him right now. Goodnight, Y/n, don’t stay up all night.” he wanted to sound stern, but you could sense his grin from miles away.
“Goodnight, Dustin, and I’ll do whatever I want.” you argued back, happy to not fight for once with him after you had arrived back home.
“Tell Steve he’s an idiot!” were the last words you heard from him before the line went silent. Your smile didn’t leave your face as you walked up the stairs, making your way towards Steve’s room ready to tease him more with Dustin’s words “Steve! Dustin asked me to tell you that-” but your sentence was caught off when you opened his bedroom’s door.
Small candles were lit all over the room, the orange hue being the only source of light. It made the room look even cozier than you remembered. A string pulled on your heart when your eyes fell on Steve. He was standing in the middle of the room, a single red rose in his hands. His smile was small, but sweet watching your eyes widen in surprise.
“What- H-how?” you were stammering, your words only a whisper. He grinned and took a few slow steps towards you.
“I had this whole thing planned for next week, when I thought you’d actually come visit, so I had to do it quickly now.” his sentence ended just as he came to stand right in front of me, not even a meter away from each other “This is for you.” he handed me the rose.
“Where did you get the rose?” your voice was small. You were caught off guard with his gesture. You thought tonight you were the one on the upper hand, but of course your stupidly sweet boyfriend had to make your heart swell up and have you at his mercy.
“I took it from my mom’s garden. Let’s hope she doesn’t notice one of them is cut.” his hands moved from his sides, one landing on your cheek and the other by your hip. Your face responded to his touch as a sigh left your lips. You looked up into his eyes and let out a laugh, your own hands locking behind his neck bringing him closer to your body.
“Thank you.” you kissed his lips, then his cheek before you ended up on the crook of his neck hugging him tightly. His arms embraced you with no hesitation, hugging your figure lovingly.
“I bet this is killing you right now.” you could feel him smiling from above you and you groaned in response. He knew you wanted to be in charge tonight and he loved it whenever you were the most confident in yourself, but he couldn’t let you win. Not tonight. Not when he has missed you so much. Missed your touch, your kisses, your body.
“Ugh, I didn’t expect you to be this sweet tonight, and the only thing I’ve been doing was being mean to you.” your head left his shoulder, lips pouting and heart racing when you locked eyes.
“Yeah, you have been pretty mean to me. Maybe we should do something about that.”
With firm hands on your hips, he lightly pushed you backwards, your back landing on the door. Your breaths were getting heavier, and your skin burned with the need to be as close to him as possible. You watched as his eyes exploring your face, acting like this was the first time he had laid eyes on you, and you loved it. You wanted his full attention, right now and forever.
Finally, his lips landed on yours, starting with light kisses that evolved into a heated make out. His tongue slipped into your mouth with ease. You loved how well he knew you. How he knew the exact things that drove you mad, knowing how and when to do them. As you did also. Right now, your hands were playing with his hair, messing it around, destroying the shape he spends hours in the morning perfecting, your nails scratching his scalp lightly. It made him moan into your mouth and your heart skip a beat. He, on the other hand, was moving his hands up and down your body, leaving a trail of fire with his every touch. He was still exploring your mouth when one of his palms landed on your neck, slightly squeezing it, making you gasp and break the kiss.
His stupid grin was back, enjoying his effect on you. He listened to your moans while his wet kisses replaced the grip on your neck. He sucked hard on the sensitive skin, knowing in the morning you’d be mad at him for leaving all these marks, but right now none of you cared. The only thing you cared about was getting more of him, so you pushed yourself off the door and with careful steps you made your way towards his bed. The back of his knees hit the foot of the bed and with a quick move, he had you on top of his lap, his hands on your ass steadying you down.
Your lips were once again locked into his, fingers roaming all over his body. Not long after you sat down, you took hold of his shirt tugging it upwards and throwing it on the floor. He did the same with your own shirt, but you didn’t give him time to do anything as your lips broke away from your heated kiss and made their way on his neck. He slowly backed down on the bed, taking you with him, his hot breath filling the silence of the room. Your teeth biting before soothing his skin with your tongue. He loved it when you took this kind of initiative, but as you moved down towards his chest, he remembered you should be the one with his full attention.
“Don’t think you can get away with your behavior by a few little kisses, sweetheart.” his voice was deep, and you could feel the need and want behind his words.
“But you have been torturing me.” you groaned, his hand guiding you back towards his face, giving you a harsh quick kiss.
“Oh, have I? How so?” he was smothering you with kisses all over your face. Lips, cheeks, forehead, eyelids, everywhere, and for a moment you forgot what you wanted to tell him.
“Yes, you have barely touched me where I need you the most.” You kissed his neck once again, your hips moving up and down Steve’s lap, both of you enjoying the friction. His palms went over your covered breasts, squeezing before he yanked you from his body, straddling you down on his bed, arms placed above your head, locking you into place with his bigger frame.
“We should fix that.” he started leaving a trace of kisses all over your body as he came closer to where you wanted him. He was unbuttoning your pants, taking his sweet time doing so, wanting you to yearn for him even more. You watched his every move. You watched as he took off your jeans one leg at a time, kissing your thighs while his fingers tangled themselves between your panties, touching everywhere but your center. You were a hot mess and he loved it. Your own fingers were on his scalp, tugging his hair, silently begging for more.  Finally, he gave into your demands. With one swift move your underwear was ripped from your body, making you gasp. The sound of his moaning name coming from your mouth giving him a rush of adrenaline to please you in all the ways he could think of. And there were a lot.

(P.S. I wanted to ask you guys if you'd want me to continue on the Duffer Brother's storyline about Nancy and Steve remembering their feelings for each other. I don't want to have Steve to go back to Nancy, so I think I'll just stick to her just having doubts about whether or not she made the right choice, have some little angst with the reader. Or I could just leave Nancy's story to the worries I described in the chapter. It's entirely your call, so let me know!)
If you want to be tagged just ask!

Tumblr media
Will was dead… You couldn’t hide from the fact any longer.
You felt stupid. You had tried to hide your pain by focusing on fake hope. Of course Eleven was wrong, of course Will’s body was found. Because this is real life and not some D&D game. You didn’t know what her powers meant, but you shouldn’t have let four kids drag into an adventure that you 1. knew was dangerous and 2. was hopeless from the beginning.
At the end of the day this is what life is about. Bullshit. Misery. Hurt.
And that’s why you didn’t want to be alone this moment.
After you took the rest of the kids back to their places safely (sneaking Eleven inside Mike’s basement), you didn’t feel like home would be ideal for you know. Being alone with your thoughts dreaded you. You could tell Dustin wanted a distraction as well. So, you took him at the dinner. You didn’t want to miss your shift tonight. It felt comforting stepping through the door and seeing Mr. Miller and Donna’s faces.
“Glad you could make it tonight. Get dressed and work on your usual tables. Not a lot of folks here tonight.” Mr. Miller said as he saw you besides the door. He was relaxed up until he saw both your and Dustin’s faces, filled with fear “Are you kids okay?”
“Um…” you hesitated. You knew by tomorrow everyone will know about it, but frankly you wanted to avoid confrontation as long as possible, so you played along “Yeah, yeah, all is well. We just saw a rat outside and we both hate rats.”
“ Yeah, don’t like ‘em” you were thankful Dustin was quick to follow your way of thinking.
“A rat? I better make sure none of our backdoors are open. I do not want another one of those things inside here? Remember Donna?” Mr. Miller picked up a broom he had places nearby, ready to scare away any rat he sees, as he recalls a dreaded memory with Donna.
“Oh yeah, I do.” she had a knowing look in her eyes as you all watched the man exit to the kitchen area. Not long after, her attention was pulled back to the two of you, still standing in front of the door “You sure are okay, sweetie?”
“Yep.” you answered quickly. Your hands fell on Dustin’s shoulders quidding him through the dinner and settling in front of the counter looking at the black-haired woman.
“Well, I’m happy to see you.” she sent you a sweet smile that made you forget everything for just a moment “And you, young man. Look at how much you’ve grown.” Sse shifted her attention to Dustin, who gave her a toothy grin, always welcoming compliments “Go sit and while you sister is getting ready, I’ll prepare you a slice of apple pie, what do you say?” Dustin nodded and you pointed to a table he could sit at.
On your way to the bathroom, you thanked Donna for her kindness. You locked the door behind you, getting dressed and putting all the accessories that were needed for the workplace. You looked yourself in the mirror, almost disgusted with how you looked. Your hair was a mess, your nose red and your eyes puffy from crying, dark circles had appeared under them and at that moment everything seemed dull. Like nothing mattered.
You tried to put your worries aside as you took a deep breath. Your only hope was to work so you forget all that had happened. Usually that was the only way to clear your mind. But as you opened the bathroom door and saw the new costumers chatting with Donna about ‘The tragedy of Hawkins’, you knew you wouldn’t escape the memories even for a moment.
___
“Bye, Mom.”
You were standing next to the open front door of your house waving goodbye to your mother. When she saw you two last night she hugged you for God knows how long. Today, after you woke up to get ready for school, she had insisted for both of you to stay home. You were more than glad she did so. You dreaded the idea of being surrounded by your classmates at the moment, all of them starring at the girl who hung out with kids, one of them dead.
“Bye, honey. Remember, if you need anything-”
“I’ll call you right away.” you finished her sentence and sent her a smile as she climbed on her car driving away to work.
Your smile fell when you closed the door. You stood there for a moment, your back against the door as you collected yourself, tears threatening to spill from your eyes once again. You shook them away and headed back to the living room, your cold cup of coffee long forgotten as you sat on the couch, your eyes never leaving the TV. You had put on the news to try and find more about Will’s… death. The Byer’s haven’t been answering any of your calls and you’ve been begging to find out how this happened. Especially after all the ‘theories’ you had heard from citizens last night. Some of them even suspected you.
By the end of the night what you had gathered was that humanity is stupid, and you hate everyone.
Just as you took a sip from your coffee, cringing because you forgot it was cold, Dustin came out of his room all dressed up with his pack bag ready at hand.
“Good morning?” you questioned as you watched him run to the kitchen, eat a single piece of bread and position himself before you.
“Come on, we need to get going.”
“What? Go where?” your brows frowned.
“To Mike’s. He says he needs us.” he placed the bag on his shoulders.
“Mike? What could he possibly need you for today?” you thought they’d all need some peace and quiet today.
“I don’t know, but Lucas said it sounded important.” you just looked at him confused. You didn’t feel like going anywhere and you didn’t think it would be good for Dustin either “Come on!” he motioned for you to get going and you put your mug down the coffee table with a loud thud.
“If he wants to talk about the whole ‘finding Will’ thing, I am taking you back home immediately.” you took your jacket from the hanger and locked the front door.
The ride to Mike’s house was short and in no time, you were walking down the staircase to his basement. Lucas was already there, and him, Mike and Eleven were waiting for you two.
“Finally, you’re here.” Mike said with an exaggerated sigh.
“What’s going on?” you said suspiciously, after you placed a hand on Dustin’s shoulder. He was eager to join his friends, but Mike’s look made you wary. You wanted to protect Dustin from any more sorrow.
“Just- Just come and listen, Y/n. Please.” He was begging. He didn’t like to do that. Mike was the kind of kid who has always known what he wanted. Always confident in any conversation he has, even if he was wrong. Sometimes he could be harsh, but he always tried for the best. Even in this situation he was trying to find some sense into this mess. Try to make it better for anyone. Now he was on his last chance and hope, and you couldn’t say no to him even if you tried.
You all sat down around Eleven as you watched her temper with the walkie, trying to find… something. It freaked you out. She wasn’t touching it, trying to search through the channels, no. She just had her eyes closed, like she was focusing every other sense onto the walkie. After a while, the static disappeared for a second and a small voice was heard through it. You couldn’t understand what the person behind the walkie said, and by the looks of your brother and Lucas, they couldn’t either.
“We keep losing the signal, but you heard it, right?” Mike looked at you with hopeful eyes and you weren’t sure how to respond.
“Yeah, I heard a baby.” Lucas spoke up.
“What?”
“Mike, you obviously tapped into a baby monitor. It’s probably the Blackburns’ next door.” the boy next to you explained.
“Uh, did that sound like a baby to you? That was Will.”
“Mike…” you sighed. Your heart broke seeing how hard he was trying to help. How he was trying to find a dead person.
“Hey, you don’t understand. He spoke last night. Words! He was singing that weird song he loves. Even El heard him!” he defended himself. You got up from your seat, taking deep breaths, trying to find a way to approach this situation.
“Oh, well, if the weirdo heard him, then I guess-”
“Are you sure you’re on the right channel?” Lucas was interrupted by Dustin, who seemed genuinely interested in this whole thing.
“I don’t think it’s about that. I think, somehow, she’s channeling him.” Mike told him.
“Like- Like Professor X.” Dustin said with enthusiasm and it through you off.
“Stop it! All of you, just stop! Why are doing this to yourselves? Can’t you accept the fact that he’s gone?” your words left your mouth before you could even think about it.
“He’s not gone!” Mike yelled back, standing up to make himself look bigger in front of you.
“Michael! We saw him yesterday! We saw his body! Men pulled him out of the water. I don’t want to even imagine how he…” you stopped, remembering that you are talking to kids. You can’t let the thoughts that keep you awake at night be known “I’m not trying to make you feel bad, but if you don’t stop now, it’ll be harder for you to accept it when the funeral happens. So please… For yours and Will’s sake, forget about it.” you asked them with the softest voice you had.
“Y/n… I heard him. I’m not lying. I’m not delusional. You have seen weird things happen the past few days, why can’t you believe this?” Mike looked you straight in the eye.
“Because… Because-” you wanted to believe. Eleven coming into your lives with her supernatural powers the day after what happened couldn’t have been a coincidence, but the facts were staring right back at you. You couldn’t unsee what you saw yesterday…
“Mike, we saw him… You can’t actually believe this.” Lucas said, defending your words. He was always the more realistic one out of the party. His eyes landed on Dustin who made a weird face as if he was disagreeing. You saw it as well and with a quiet nod urged him to speak up.
“I mean… Do you remember when Will fell off his bike and broke his finger? He sounded a lot like that.” he explained his thinking and every power from your body left you. You were lost in your thoughts, not knowing what was happening. You sat down on the couch.
“We saw him!” Lucas almost screamed.
“Maybe it’s his ghost? Maybe he’s haunting us.” Dustin suggested and a scoff left your lips, not actually believing you are having this conversation.
“It’s not his ghost!” Mike raised his voice again.
“How do you know that?” Lucas did the same thing.
“I just do!”
“Then what was in that water?”
“I don’t know! All I know is Will is alive. Will is alive! He’s out there somewhere. All we have to do is find him. You have to trust me.” he looked at you again and you started feeling guilty, like you were letting down Will if you didn’t give it one more chance.
You could still hear the static coming from the walkie as Eleven was continuously trying to find a connection again.
“This isn’t gonna work. We need to get El to a stronger radio.” Mike sighed.
“Mr. Clarke’s Heathkit ham shack.” Dustin smiled at the idea of using it again.
“Yeah. That should work. What do you say?” the boy asked you and Lucas, but his eyes were glued on you, trying to figure out your opinion on this. They couldn’t do this without you. You have always been there. Also, they literally couldn’t do this without you cause you were the older one.
“The Heathkit’s at school. There is no way we’re gonna get the weirdo in there without anyone noticing. I mean… look at her.” Lucas pointed at Eleven. With her buzzed hair and her oversized clothes she really looked a lot different than all the other girls her age.
“Y/n?” you heard Dustin call your name. All the boys were looking at you for any signs of approval. You sighed before you gave in. If they were going to do something stupid, they were gonna do it with you.
“I have some old clothes I could bring for her. We’ll dress her up and she’ll look… normal. We can make it work.”
So that was the plan. You weren’t sure what to expect when you got to the Heathkit, if you would find anything, but you couldn’t live with yourself if you didn’t at least try. You and Dustin were riding back home to get some clothes and some of your make-up. Mike had suggested to just ‘steal’ everything you needed from Nancy, but you didn’t want to risk any questions coming your way. So, as Dustin was putting half the stuff in his bag and you did the same, the phone rang.
“Whoever it is, they’re lucky they caught us home.” you said and heard Dustin chuckle “Hello?”
“Y/n?” his voice sounded weak.
“Jonathan. Hey… I’ve been trying to get in touch. How are you?” it was a dumb question and you almost hit yourself in the head for asking it, but you were really concerned. It felt like you haven’t talked in ages.
“Not great… Mom just left me alone to organize everything for the funeral. She’s just so-” he stopped himself before he’d say something mean “I really need some help…” your heart broke when he spoke those words.
“Yeah. Yeah! Absolutely. Where are you?” he told you his location and you asked if he could give you half an hour to fulfill a promise you made to Dustin.
“Everything okay?” your brother asked when you got off the phone.
“Yeah, I’ll explain everything later, let’s go.” you took your bags and biked back to the others.
“So, you are leaving us alone?” Mike asked when you explained the new plan you had formed on your way here. You were going to help Eleven with her ‘transformation’, but right after you’d go and find Jonathan.
“You will hardly be alone with two other boys and Eleven.” You told him, teasingly.
“What if we need you?” he kept on persisting.
“I’ll have my walkie and you’ll contact me whenever you need me. But you’re just going to the school so if you are smart and careful, nothing dangerous will happen.” you eyed him, making him promise you that they’ll be careful. He nodded his head and you ruffled his hair. He was ready to whine about it when an excited voice interrupted you.
“Hey, look what we found!” Lucas and Dustin came into Mike’s room. They were searching for more stuff they could use for Eleven’s disguise in Nancy’s room, and they ended up finding a blond wig. You recognized it. Nancy had worn it one time on Halloween when you were kids.
“That’s perfect. Come on, El, I’ll help you get dressed.” you extended your hands towards her. She hesitated at first, but eventually took your hand in hers and you guided her to Nancy’s room.
You sat on your friend’s bed, looking through everything you have, and deciding what would fit and look best on Eleven, while she was taking in the well-lit room. You could understand how she was feeling. Well, not on the same level, but you too had felt intimidated by Nancy’s room once, even jealous over it. She had so many pretty things, everything was mostly in pink. Your younger self felt like entering a princess’ room.
“Hey, how does this look?” you called out for the girl to check the outfit you picked. Her hand grazed over the pink dress, and she nodded “Can you put it on yourself, or would you prefer a little help?”
Eleven examined the dress and looked at you, silently asking for your help. You sent her a sweet smile and helped her try it on. It fit like a glove “You look much better in it than I did at your age.”
She didn’t reply to your comment, but she had a faint smile on her face as she watched herself in the mirror, taking in the image before her. You put some make-up you had brought along on her face, just some blush to put a little color on her face and a coat of lip-gloss. Last but not least, you placed the wig on her head carefully.
“There you go. You look wonderful.” you didn’t expect a response, so you just started placing everything you had used back into you bag.
“Thank you.” her voice was so soft you almost didn’t catch it. But you did. She was looking at you with sincere eyes and you wanted to hug her. You didn’t know what was going on inside that girl’s mind or what she has been gone through or why she has these powers, but from that moment you knew you would do anything to take care of her, just like the kids right outside the door. Just like Will.
You smiled and got up from the bed, taking her hand into yours with ease now. She was trusting you “Let’s go show you off.”
You opened the door and the boys stood straight up, trying to get a glimpse of Eleven “Don’t scare her.” you chuckled at their reaction and opened the door fully, so El could step out.
“Wow. She looks-” your brother wanting to speak, but a entranced Mike cut him off.
“Pretty.” he didn’t realise what he said at first, but after he did and saw all of your reactions to his words, he ‘corrected’ himself quickly “Good. You look pretty good.”
You all went down the stairs and onto your bikes. You were riding together for some minutes, before you had to get separated “Okay, I have to take this turn. I’ll be in range the whole time, alright? I’ll come help you no matter what.”
“Okay!” they all said towards you as you took your turn.
“Don’t do anything stupid!” you yelled back and after a couple minutes you saw Jonathan sitting in one of the benches near the funeral home. You stopped in front of the home and walked to him “Hey.”
He instantly pulled you in for a hug. You hugged him back, staying still until he felt it’s okay to pull back “Thank you, I just-” he looked like he was trying to find the right words to explain himself, but just couldn’t.
“You don’t have to say anything right now…” you eyed the funeral home “Do you want to go in or for a walk to clear you head?”
Jonathan looked at you with relief in his eyes. He should have brought you along from the beginning. He didn’t like the idea of making you more upset with everything that was going on, but you were always such a gentle soul when it came to people needing comfort. Always there to make sure they were okay.
“No, I… I need to get this done. I don’t want his body to suffer more…” he spoke softly and it made the guilt inside you grow.
‘Should I tell him?’ ‘What if it’s nothing after all?’ ‘What if everything we have been suspecting is true and he’s going through this grief for no reason?’
No matter your thoughts or what you gut was telling you, you followed him inside the funeral home where the worker welcomed you in and started showing Jonathan all the options he had. You just walked with them, not making a sound, your thoughts troubling you once again.
The worker was describing a casket to you when Nancy suddenly appeared into the home. You hadn’t seen her ever since yesterday’s events, the memory of her face when she realized what the photos showed still clear in you head. You walked towards her with curious eyes.
Jonathan felt the movement from where you left and glanced at you and Nancy, who were exchanging hello’s “Can you just give me a second?” he asked and walked towards the two of you.
“Hey. Your mom, um… she said you’d be here. I just…” she looked at you hesitantly “Can we talk for a second?”
“Yeah.” Jonathan agreed and Nancy turned and sat on the small bench on the hallway. Jonathan looked at you with a frown before you both followed behind her. You both sat on each of Nancy’s sides, watching her as she looked through her bag, searching for something.
She pulled out one of the photos from yesterday. It was the one of photos Carol had teared apart, but now it was taped back together. The picture was quite dark, but you could clearly see Barbara sitting by the pool, her legs playing with the water.
“That night that you went…” Nancy stopped herself momentarily “That you took this photo, did you see anyone else out there with Barbara?” her eyes switched between you and Jonathan
“Wha-what?” Jonathan’s words stammered with confusion as your brows frowned.
“This. Can you tell me what this is?” her finger pointed at a dark frame far behind Barbara. Your eyes narrowed to take a better look, before Jonathan took the photograph in his hands to examine what she was looking at. To you it looked like darkness, maybe some kind of shadow from the forest behind.
“It looks like it could be some kind of perspective distortion, but I wasn’t using the wide angle. I don’t know.” Jonathan simply explained and handed the photo back “It’s weird.”
“And you’re sure you didn’t see anyone else out there?” her eyes landed on you, and you could see despair hiding behind them.
“I wasn’t there.” you told her softly, wanting to explain yourself since everything that happened yesterday “Really. I’m sorry.” You didn’t know what you were apologizing for. For letting it happen? For not telling her once you knew? For not being there to see what she was referring to? You didn’t know.
Her head turned to the right, gaze falling back to Jonathan “No, I didn’t.” he replied to her question “She was there one second and then, um… gone. I figured she bolted.”
The girl beside you looked disappointed. Nancy thought you guys were her only last hope and now everything seems hopeless again “The cops think that she ran away. But they don’t know Barb. And I went back to Steve’s… And I thought I s- saw something. Some… weird man or- I don’t know what it was. I’m sorry. I… I shouldn’t have come here today. I’m… I’m so sorry.” She gathered her stuff and quickly stood up to leave, but her words had intrigued you. Both you and Jonathan.
“What’d he look like?” he was now stood up as well, facing Nancy as her movements stopped.
“What?”
“This man you saw in the woods. What’d he look like?” you were confused. How did Jonathan know about this? About anomalies?
“I don’t- I don’t know. It was almost like he… he didn’t have a-”
“Didn’t have a face?” Jonathan finished Nancy’s sentence and her curiosity lit up.
“How did you know that?” she asked. You were frozen in your seat.
“It’s all my mother has been saying for the past couple days. That- that a man was inside the walls and that- that Will is speaking to her through lights. I thought it was her anxiety, but-but now…” his voice got quiet after he started thinking about everything that’s been happening.
You couldn’t believe your ears. If Joyce has been having these experiences, maybe you and the kids were right. Maybe there’s still time.
Finally, your legs were able to let you stand up. Your breaths were sharp as you gathered up the courage to speak.
“Did you hear any growling?” you asked, eyes set on Nancy, but before she could say anything, Jonathan turned to see you.
“You know about this too?”
“I-” you debated on what to do. What was the best for now? That’s all you were thinking of. Finally you knew you weren’t the odd one out of this whole mess. You weren’t the only one who has been having weird things happening to them. But still, you couldn’t confront him yet.
You cleared your throat and continued speaking “The night that the town was searching for Will, the boys, they- they wanted to go out and search as well and despite me telling them not to, they went out into the forest to look for him. When I realized, I went out and tried to find them, but the rain was getting stronger and stronger, so much that I didn’t see a raccoon sneak up on me. It caused me to fall, scratching my knee. As I was getting ready to enter the forest and look for them, I heard a sound coming from next to me. I didn’t think much of it at first, but then I heard a growl.” your voice came to a stop for just a second, while you were recalling the moment in your mind remembering your emotions “I froze. I don’t know how, but… I immediately felt as if I was in great danger. The growl was deep, and it didn’t sound like anything I’ve heard before. Nothing happened in the end, but… I haven’t stopped thinking about this moment.”
“Do you think it could be related to Barb?” Nancy asked, hope in her voice.
“Not only to Barb, but after what you said…” you looked at Jonathan carefully “I think it could lead to Will too…” you said it. Well part of it, but you knew that Jonathan was beginning to wonder that too. His eyes were staring at the floor, not daring to look up. You and Nancy shared a look for a moment before Jonathan quickly sniffed his nose and looked up at you with brows furrowed.
“Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s just- We need to see the picture clearer. Follow me.”
There we were. Heading to the high school’s darkroom in Jonathan’s car to temper with the photograph, all of us wondering about the outcome. We were connected to this unknown creature through different experiences. You were sitting on the passenger’s seat, clutching your bag into your arms. You felt the walkie inside. None of the kids had spoken to you and it got you worried sick. You just hoped they were okay and that they had a lead to your plan.
___
“And you’re…”
You had arrived to the dark room and were sitting in silence, waiting for Jonathan to fix the photo, when Nancy spoke up softly. Her words dragged out, signaling for Jonathan to finish the sentence for her.
“Brightening. Enlarging.” Nancy hummed in response, examining his movements.
“Jonathan, did your mom say anything else? Anything about that thing or- or Will?”
His movements froze for a bit, before continuing on “I’ve told you everything, really. Apart from the wall and the lights, she hasn’t told me anything else.” he answered, looking at you. His eyes looked tired. You can’t even imagine to think how he even feels right now. You wanted to learn more about the lights, but you let it go for now. You didn’t want to confuse him even more.
“How long does it take?” Nancy asked again.
“Not long.”
“Have you been… doing this a while?” but before Jonathan could answer a new voice interrupted you.
“Code red, I repeat, code red.”
Dustin!
Your whole body snapped into action, and you took out the walkie as fast as you could. You lowered the volume, before turning to the two teens, who were already starring at you strangely.
“It’s Dustin. Just some game we’re playing, trying to get his mind off of things.” you came up with a quick excuse, pointing towards the door “I’ll be right back, sorry.” you got out and looked for any sign of students. Most of the students were in their classes at this time of day, so you should be free to talk without someone catching you.
“Hey, I’m here. All okay? Over.” You spoke quietly into the walkie.
“Y/n, Mike was right. We heard him. We heard Will. Over.”
You almost broke into a sob, but you covered your mouth so no one could hear you.
“Are-are you sure? Over.” your voice sounded weak.
“Positive. He’s alive. We’ll tell you all about it when you get to Mike’s. Over and out.”
You smiled and turned off the walkie. You felt like this weight was lifted from your shoulders. Will was alive and you would do anything to find him. No matter the consequences, you would not stop until he was back with his family.
“Hey, Y/n, you need to see this.” Suddenly Nancy called out for you. You turned seeing her by the door. You went inside together and she stopped beside Jonathan, who was waiting for the two of you.
You took small steps towards them and finally stood in front of the table where the picture was laying. It was clearer than before, and brighter. So much that you could now see with no trouble that the thing behind Barbara was no man. It frightened you just as much as its presence had that night.
“That is what I saw at Steve’s house. It’s out there and it’s- it’s-”
“ I think it’s taking them…” Jonathan spoke up. You stood between them, still staring at the photo as they spoke “I thought my mom was crazy cause she said that… that the body we saw today was not Will’s. It couldn’t be. She believes he’s alive.”
“And if he’s alive-” Nancy thought.
“Then Barbara is.” Jonathan agreed with her thinking.
“We need to find them.” you finally told them. You turned around to look at both of them “We need to get them back.”

New Journey (S.H) Prologue Season 4
Pairing: Steve Harrington x henderson!reader
Summary: Back to Hawkins for spring break. Y/n believed it would just be a quiet time to cherish with her loved ones, but one day in and another mess had already began.
Warnings: cursing
Notes: Here it is! The long awaited season 4! I couldn't wait any longer. I will be writing simultaneously the backstory and season 4. I have devided the first episode into two chapters since the prologue was becoming too big (it's nearly 4.5k) and felt too tiring to put the basketball match in this one as well. So, I hope you enjoy this new season and thank you for waiting! 💕
P.S.: If at times I make Dustin a bit more "rude", or distant or anything, and you notice how I'm focusing on the fact that he's a teen now, is because I know first hand how boys this age act, since my brother is at that age. Sometimes I hate how uncaring he seems or how he hides his real emotions, so I just wanted to put that into Dustin's character. I noticed Dustin's sarcasm peak in the fourth season so I feel like that's what the Duffer Brothers were also trying to do.

Epilogue Season 3 << New Journey Masterlist >> Chapter 1
Tumblr media
You can’t believe you’re going back to Hawkins. It has been almost seven months since you left to go to college at Michigan. Sure, the states were next to each other, but it’s a five-hour drive. It wasn’t very enjoyable. But now it was spring break, and you were both excited and anxious to leave. You really wanted to see your family and friends but going back to Hawkins almost brought chills down your spine.
You still had nightmares about all the creatures you had encountered and all the deaths you had to deal with. Being alone didn’t really help that much. So, despite Hawkins being the reason for your nightmares, your cure was there as well, waiting with open arms to welcome you. You knew once you hugged everyone, you would have not a worry in your mind.
Due to lessons and your studies, you hadn’t been able to visit sooner, but your family had more opportunities to come see you in your new place. Well, in your new dorm to be precise. The thing was that you didn’t have a roommate. The college had assigned you one, a girl named Harriet, but she decided to rent a house with her boyfriend, leaving you by yourself.
Dustin loved Michigan during the wintertime. Him and your mom came to visit you during Christmas, spending some quality family time. You had loved every second of it, but you had to say goodbye after the holiday since they had other things to focus on, your mom with her job and Dustin with his assigned homework (he couldn’t stop whining about it).
He had changed quite a lot. It still shocked you that he is a teenager now. You still pictured him as this little boy running around the house chasing Mews. But those days were far gone and he proved that to you with every chance he could get. His temper was worse, he got annoyed easier than ever and his sarcasm was over the roof. He truly was growing up to a typical teenager.
Over the next few months you had seen the two a few more times when they drove to see you on some weekends (Dustin sometimes drove here with Steve), but both your schedules made it impossible to visit more. You did talk a lot, exchanging news and gossip a couple times a week through the Cerebro, but that was it (you’d never admit it to him, but you were glad Dustin persuaded you into taking it with you). One more thing that made you even more excited to visit now was to spend two weeks with them, unbothered of anything else in the world.
Despite seeing your family only a few times this school year, you couldn’t say the same about your boyfriend. After the fiasco at the mall, you could proudly say that you and Steve were better than you have ever been before. Yeah, the long distance was tiring at times, frustrating even, but staying a couple was the best decision you could have made.
Steve acted on impulses, so a lot of times you would wake up in the middle of the night on someone knocking at your door, only to see Steve, who had driven the five hours so he could spend the weekend with you. You kept telling him he didn’t need to come so often, spend so much money and time driving, when you already had planned dates on when you would meet, but he’d just say he had nothing better to do at Hawkins, so he’d visit. He clearly lied since every time he’d come your friends would talk to you through the Cerebro complaining about where he was and why wasn’t he back home doing the things they had planned to do. He had stood up Dustin so many times, he kinda hated you for it, but he also secretly liked seeing you both in love, like him and Suzie (his words, not yours).
You never complained, though. You loved being with him. Every time he would come unexpectedly, you were able to feel your whole body relax, your smile became ten times bigger and you couldn’t stop laughing. You never had nightmares when he was around, finally getting some good nights of sleep. He got along perfectly with the friends you had made here and you could see he liked being somewhere knew. He still hadn’t come to an agreement with his father, who made him work to ‘fix his mistakes’, but you had faith that someday he would come stay with you… Maybe sooner than you thought. He needed an escape from this scary town for more reasons that you could think of.
So here you were, sitting at the longest bus ride ever to go surprise them. You had lied when your mother had called saying that you had this annoyingly long essay to write and you wouldn’t be able to come on the first week of your break. Not only were you coming early, but you also skipped last day of your lessons so you could arrive at their last day before the break.
After six painful hours you finally arrived at Hawkins. It was now seven am. Still plenty of time to say hello to your family before they had to leave for school and work. You had your key, so you just entered the house. You couldn’t hear anything, so you guessed they were still sleeping. This brought an idea in your mind. You search the kitchen and saw all the ingredients you needed to make pancakes. By the time you had set the table, you heard a door open.
“Dusty? Did you make breakfast?” your moms voice echoed through the halls as she came closer and closer to the kitchen.
“Yeah, as if Dustin can cook anything other than toast.” you joked and a second after your words, you were able to see your mothers shocked face.
“Y/n?!” she smiled and ran to hug you. You couldn’t stop giggling as she swayed you back and forth, her hug becoming tighter “How- When- When did you come? Why?”
“Do you not want me here?” you laughed.
“No, no, Of course not. You know I love having you here, but you said…”
“I lied about the essay. I wanted to surprise you by coming early. You have two whole weeks of me.” you had a cheeky smile on your face.
“Oh, sweetie.” your mother hugged you again and you were pretty sure she had tears in her eyes. After the rush of excitement passed, you both sat down and enjoyed the breakfast you had made. You just sat and listened to all the news she had from the small town. You didn’t realise how fast time had pasted until you glanced at the clock.
“Is Dustin going to wake up anytime soon? He has school in like twenty minutes…”
“Oh, he’s awake. He just spends an absurd amount of time talking to that radio he's built before he has to leave every day.” she casually answered as she gathered her plates putting them on the sink.
“Any idea who he’s talking to?” you asked while you drank your cup of coffee.
“No, he hasn’t told me a thing. Do you know?” she glanced at you while she washed the dishes.
“I have something in mind… I’ll go check.” it had to be Suzie, but you wanted to go annoy him a little bit. You honestly couldn’t believe they were still ‘seeing’ each other. With the distance and their were still going strong.
You knocked at his door waiting for his answer “Yeah, mom, I’ll be out in a second!” he yelled so you could here him through the wooden door.
“Is Suzie doing alright?” you smiled as you heard noise from his bedroom. You could picture his confused face and how quickly he would stand up to open the door. Not five seconds later the door swung open and you saw your brother’s face scrunched up.
“Y/n? Why are you here?”
“Wow, such a warm welcome.” you stood at his door waiting for him to hug you, but he just turned your back at you getting his backpack and the notebook from his desk, before he spoke into the Cerebro.
“Suziepoo, thanks for the help, but I need to head to school now. I’ll talk to you later, I love you.” the nicknames still didn’t sit right with you.
“I love you too, Dustybun.” the girl answered and then the line was dead.
You watched Dustin gather some more stuff and put it into his backpack, before he walked out of the room, giving you only a smile on his way out.
“Aren’t you gonna welcome me?” you questioned, feeling a little sad towards the lack of excitement from your brother.
“Didn’t you say you had this project you had to work on? How come you’re here?” he was heading towards the living room looking for something as you followed behind.
“I lied so I could come here to surprise you, guys!” you explained your plan with a smile on your face, still waiting for a hug.
“Yeah, but we already knew you were gonna come for some time here, so it’s not really a surprise.” he simply said, finally finding some dice he had accidentally dropped on the couch.
“Yes, but I came early.” you explained once more following him to the kitchen.
“Still not much of a surprise. Those pancakes are though, thanks.” he finally said something nice towards you and you left it at that, sitting at the table to eat.
“You’re welcome, I guess.” you had to remind yourself that he was now a teenager. Not only that, but a boy teenager. You could understand how he was feeling. He wanted his space, most things annoyed him and he was… exploring himself. You knew he wasn’t the same boy that hugged you every morning anymore, but you were still his sister. You made a mental note to talk to Steve about how to approach this situation.
Dustin ate quickly, hurrying to head to school. He shot up from his chair and walked at the front door.
“Want me to drive you?” you asked, sounding way too excited. Your car was still parked outside, waiting until Dustin got his driver’s license.
“No, I’m fine. Bye!” and just like that he was out the door.
“God… Was I this distant as a teenager?” he sat back down on your chair toying with the leftover pancakes on your plate.
“Come on, you need to bear with him. Everything’s changing around him, but he’s still the same person. I’m sure he’s really glad to see you.” your mom answered with a smile.
“Doesn’t look like it.”
“He’s a teenager, what do you expect him to do?” you knew she was right, but you thought your connection was different. You weren’t like that to him when you were that age. Then again, you’re not the same people. You’ve always known that Dustin had a bad way of expressing his emotions. Or maybe you were making a big deal out of nothing. You did see each other throughout those months and you did talk a lot over the walkie. It’s not like you hadn’t seen each other for years.
Still, is a hug too much to ask for?
After half an hour you decided to go see Steve. You hoped the surprise would still excite some more people.
You got into your old car, waved goodbye to your mother, who was also heading to work, and started driving towards Steve’s work. Even though you were not here for these seven months, you knew his schedule by heart. Today he worked till noon and after Keith would come to replace him. Robin couldn’t work today due to school and band practice before she had to attend the basketball game.
You arrived at ‘Family Video’ and the only other car in the parking lot was your boyfriend’s. He had to come in and open the store which opened in twenty minutes, so he would have no customers. Giving you some time to yourselves.
You entered the store looking around for any sign of your boyfriend, when a voice announced from the backroom “We open in twenty, please wait outside until then.” he sounded annoyed. Steve can’t understand why some people couldn’t just read the sign outside. It was too early for him to deal with stupid customers.
“Oh, then I’ll just come back later.” that voice. He knew that voice. He would recognize it anywhere. He instantly let the VHS tapes he was holding fall on top of the table and opened the door to the front of the store. You were there. Standing in front of him with a huge smile on your face as you saw him.
“Y/n!” you saw him as he sprinted towards you, taking your whole body into a hug. You laughed as you threw your arms around him, grabbing onto him as he spun you around. His face was buried on the crook of your neck while he spoke “What the hell? I thought you were coming next week.”
“I decided to come early. Surprise!” you faced him again, his grin widening as he took in your face. You were just a breath away from each other, your noses almost touching, your arms still tangled.
“Oh, I missed you so much.” he started kissing you all over your face, his lips as soft as always, finally ending his journey on your own, kissing you sweetly.
“You saw me three weeks ago, how much could you have missed me?” you giggled between the kisses. Your words were just for teasing. You knew how much he missed you, cause you were feeling the same thing.
“A lot. Now shut up, Henderson.” he groaned against your lips, his arms tightening around you. He backed you slowly towards the counter, your back leaning against it while he deepened the kiss. You missed him so much. Being apart for long periods of time didn’t kill a single spark between you, just made you realize how well you fit together. How much you know and love one another. Every time you separated you were counting the days, hours, minutes you’d meet up again. You couldn’t stop thinking about him, always wanting to make sure he was safe and sound.
Right now wasn’t any different. Your only thought was Steve Harrington, but in a very different way.
The way he was holding and touching you made you forget about everything else around you. Only focusing on his hands and his smell, his soft skin and rich hair as your fingers ran through them. The way his lips left your own, but immediately attacking the sweet spot on your neck he loved so much. You were focusing on the way his breath hitched everytime your nails would scratch his scalp or back, completely forgetting the fact you were in a public place, in Steve’s work place and if the ringing of the phone hadn’t pulled you both from the state of this trance you had lost each other to, a lot more things would have happened.
“My God… It’s probably stupid Keith checking in on me. He does it every time I have the morning shift, thinks I’m incapable of managing on my own.” he let his head fall on your left shoulder, groaning out his words.
“Answer it. We have a lot of time to enjoy each other’s company. Don’t worry, sailor.” you whispered the last three words next to his ear and you knew you were making it worse for him to go pick up the phone, but you didn’t care. You wanted to rail him up as much as you could all day and then repay him at night.
You saw his jaw clench at the sound of the nickname. He looked down at you one more time, taking you face on his hands giving you one last rough kiss, before he mumbled under his breath and left to answer the phone from inside the counter “That goddamn nickname.”
He loved it deep down. You always said it in a tone that made everything inside of him burn and yearn for you. You started saying it when he had got the job at Scoops Ahoy, making fun of him for the costume him and Robin had to wear but it kinda grown on both of you. You always said you ‘loved a man in a suit’, even if that suit was to serve the people’s need for ice cream.
Your smile grew watching him argue with Keith about the deliveries that were supposed to come in today. You guessed the call would last some time, so you decided to take a look around the store. Still the same layout, but many new films on the shelves. You read the description of the ones that caught your eye to maybe find anything for the two of you to watch. Maybe even a film to pick on Dustin’s interest.
By the time Steve hang up the phone he had to open the store and get to his actual work, helping customers and rearranging the misplaced or returned movies. Every moment he would steal some time to himself he’d come and show you how much he loved having you around again. You talked about every new thing that has happened from the last time you had talk. You sharing new stories you had with your friends at college and him telling you all about the gossip around town. You also learned about this new girl that Robin likes. She hadn’t told you anything, which made you confused since you pretty much shared anything with each other, but Steve said she didn’t like to talk much about her.
Her name is Vickie and Robin was certain she was not into girls, but Steve demanded she was since she had paused Fast Times at 53 minutes and 5 seconds (whatever that meant, he never explained it). In his mind she made it obvious. You just laughed along to his words telling you all about what everyone was up to.
He was currently talking about today’s game and how excited he was to see the school win and Lucas playing. You had learned that your school made it to the finals of the Championship and you made the decision to go see him play. Every time he talked about one of the kids he looked so proud and loving, even when he was cursing them for doing something dump or dangerous you could tell he was glad to be around them. You looked around the store and saw no one. You were alone so it was the perfect time to have that serious talk you wanted to have with him about Dustin
“Hey… Can talk to you for something serious real quick?” you cleared your throat. You were sitting on top of the counter, playing with your fingers. He turned to look at you and the way you looked anxious made him stop in his tracks, worrying.
“Uh-oh. Last time that happened, we broke up.” He tried to play it off as a joke.
“No, no, not that serious, just…” you laughed a bit, trying to get your thoughts in order “It’s about Dustin.” You said, eyes locking with his.
“Oh, what about him?” he was relieved he hadn’t done anything.
“This morning I went to surprise him, and it seemed like he didn’t even care I was back. Like I know I wasn’t gone for years or anything, but I didn’t even get a ‘Welcome home’ or ‘I missed you’. I didn’t even get a hug. Mom says he’s not that affectionate anymore since he’s a teenager now, but is this how things will be with us from now on? He’ll just not care? Am I crazy for thinking that? I just wanted to talk to you about it since you’ve been a teen boy before, and if you had any similar feelings or something? I feel like I’m being a bit too much… Am I being too much?” you rambled on and on, not noticing how Steve had moved his body in front of your own, settling between your legs. He cupped your face, stroking your cheeks with his thumbs.
“Wow, wow, slow down, babe. Relax. Look, I understand where you’re coming from, but your mom is also right. You can’t expect from a teenage boy to want to cuddle with his big sister anymore. He’s not a child.” He didn’t want to hurt your feelings, but he knew you never wanted to be lied to, even when it was out of pity, so he expressed his thoughts as they were.
“Has he changed around you too?” your hands had now circled around his waist, not letting him escape from your touch.
“I mean, we never had a lovey-dovey relationship like you guys, but now that I’m thinking about it our conversations have changed. They’re more… mature, if you know what I mean.” He winked and you immediately frowned.
“That’s disgusting. You’re talking to my brother about these things?” you only hoped he excluded memories of the two of you together.
“He has to talk to someone about it, who’s he gonna talk to? His mom? You? Guys need guys for these things and I’m pretty experienced so he’s getting the real deal.” He had this stupid grin on his face that you loved so much. Still, your mind wandered off to your original problem. Steve noticed and he took your hands in his one more time, reassuring you.
“Hey, it’s gonna be okay. But you can’t expect him to stay the same forever when none of us have. I mean, look at me. I used to be worshipped in high school and now I’m a full-time babysitter to six kids.” You laughed at his words. You smiled looking up at him, before taking a deep breath.
“I guess I’m just worried…” you started saying but stopped. You weren’t sure how to express what you were feeling. You always had this problem. Wanting to say a specific thing you thought but coming out wrong. However, Steve’s smile was so genuine, waiting for you to get ready while stroking your hands with his thumbs, that after a sigh you continued “Ever since I could remember Dustin and I have been a team. I was always there for him as he was for me. We did everything together and now… Now I’m miles away and he’s here and I feel like this distance will ruin that. He’ll grow out of the childish need to look for me everywhere for comfort and he will grow into the brave man that I know he is. He’ll find more unique and interesting people, like you, and he’ll forget about me…”
You finally admitted it. You didn’t like college. Well, you did like the new experience and your lessons (most of the time), but you hated your time there. All because you were alone. The first night you spend at your dorm went horribly. When they informed you that you wouldn’t have a roommate, fear creeped upon you. Back then, the incidents of the Starcourt Mall were still fresh in your memory, making your nights dreadful. You had hoped that having a roommate would be a distraction, but now you were alone in a dark room surrounded by nothing other than your thoughts.
You had talked to Steve about this a few times, but not enough to get him too worried. Maybe that’s why he visited you more times than your usual dates. You didn’t know and frankly you didn’t want to know. You were just happy to have someone else there with you.
“You get pretty lonely up there, huh?” he hated seeing you sad. He had hoped leaving this town will only do you good. A break from the madness, but this wasn’t about what had happened. This was about leaving your home. Your family and your friends. The only people who knew how fucked up all of you were.
“A little.” He looked sympathetically down at you, taking you in his arms.
“None of these things will happen. Dustin will always need you. You’re his sister. He’ll just need you for different stuff, more important to him and you.” He rubbed your back and you hid your face on his neck. You heard him sigh “I wish I could stay there with you all the time…” he whispered. This made you remember another thing you wanted to ask him.
“Um, actually…” you began saying but the door opening interrupted you. Steve took a few steps away from you to greet the costumers. Your body felt cold without his hugging you. You opened your mouth to speak again, but a costumer requested Steve’s assistance.
“I’m sorry, babe, I’ll be right back.” He pecked your cheek and walked towards the costumer.
You didn’t mind. You had two whole weeks to talk to him. To cherish your time together. And to ask a question that you have been preparing for a month now. Something that you hadn’t stopped thinking about ever since your mother had jokingly suggested it. You were preparing yourself to ask him about moving in together…

I NEED to write season 4, my body yearns for it. I have so many ideas and I can't wait until I finish the backstory. So most likely the next part will be for the new season! Chapter 2 << New Journey Masterlist >> Chapter 4
Tumblr media
After the shock that occurred you yesterday, you decided that it'd be best to prepare for the 'demogorgon' the next time you looked for Will. Oh yeah, you're all going out again in the dark to search for Will. You tried to stop them, telling them it's not safe and worse things could happen, but none of them were listening to you. They were in desperate need to find their friend so to keep them in check you were going to be part of their little search group.
Last night you and Dustin were preparing your bags with everything you could find useful. His was mostly (if not all) filled with snacks while your bag mainly contained weapons and supplies. Nothing too much. Two pocketknives for you and your brother, some medical supplies and the walkies.
You hated the idea of going out there when some creature was lingering in the woods, but you would feel better if you were prepared for anything.
You considered the idea of speaking to Jonathan about this, you haven't seen him since last morning, but you didn't want to give him any false hope. And you didn't even know how you would back up your theory 'Oh, some girl we found in the woods told us'. No. You had to find evidence first before making the case more bizarre.
Before you went to school, you, Dustin and Lucas stopped by Mike's to form a plan for the evening. You exchanged pleasantries with his parents and then went to the basement. You saw Eleven playing with Mike's walkie talkie.
"Okay, so, I believe the best excuse to say to our parents is that we have AV Club after school. Y/n, you..." Mike started speaking and looked towards you for your excuse.
"I have a night shift tonight, so I have time to spare till then." you didn't really feel like going to work, but you didn't want to use Mr. Miller's kindness again for your advantage.
"Great, that's give us at least a few hours for Operation Mirkwood."
"You seriously think this w- she knows where Will is?" Lucas changed his words quickly, knowing you told tolerate the word 'weirdo' anymore, even though you're a bit spooked by her.
"Just trust me on this, okay?" Mike asked and Lucas agreed "Did you get the supplies?"
"Yeah. Binoculars… from ‘Nam. Army knife… also from ‘Nam. Hammer, camouflage bandana… and the wrist rocket." he described the stuff while taking them out of his bag, showing them to the rest of you.
"You’re gonna take out the Demogorgon with a slingshot?" your brother asked not impressed with his choice of weapon.
"First of all, it’s a wrist rocket. And second of all, the Demogorgon’s not real. It’s made up. But if there is something out there, I’m gonna shoot it in the eye…" he slings the wrist rocket towards Dustin and he flinches at the movement " And blind it."
You shook your head at them and Mike sighed "What did you, guys, bring?"
"Well, I brought our walkies, two pocketknives and some medical stuff, just to be prepared, and Dustin..." your words dragged as you saw your brother dump all of his snacks on top of the table.
"Alrighty. So, we’ve got… Nutty Bars, Bazooka, Pez, Smarties, Pringles, Nilla Wafers, apple, banana, and trail mix." he went through all of the bags then looked up to his friends proudly.
"Seriously?"
"We need energy for our travels. For stamina. And besides, why do we even need weapons anyway? We have her." he answered Lucas and pointed at the girl. Eleven was still looking at the walkie not taking her eyes away from it.
"She shut one door!" Lucas said exaggerated.
"With her mind! Are you kidding me? That’s insane! Imagine all the other cool stuff she could do. Like…" he stopped him words and took on his hands the Millennium Falcon Lego Mike had build "I bet... that she could make this fly!" he stopped in front of Eleven and held out the toy towards her face, her eyes finally leaving the walkie talkie "Hey. Hey. Okay, concentrate. Okay?" he says before letting it go, but without any help from Eleven, it fell to the ground "Okay, one more time." again gravity does its thing "Okay. Use your powers, okay?" but for the third time the same thing happens and Eleven goes back to the walkie on her hands.
"Idiot." Lucas said and you smirked before playing with your brother's hat and bringing him into your hug, his back on your stomach.
"She's not a dog!" Mike yelled after he picked up the toy from the ground, when suddenly his mother called out.
" Guys! Time for school!"
"Okay, pack your shit. We're meeting here after school." you said as you grabbed your bag and climbed up the stairs.
You saw Dustin and Lucas follow you outside, only Mike staying in the basement to explain what time they would return to Eleven. After a couple minutes you started riding to your schools. You were pretty anxious about going today. You wanted to see if Jonathan would be there and also you wanted to apologize to Nancy. You were immature talking to her like that. You still didn't agree with her words and excuse, but it wasn't the time to speak to her about that. You truly hoped she had a nice time.
When you arrived at Hawkins High you didn't see your friend's car. He must still not be ready to stay here. You made a mental note to check on him the moment you had some time to yourself.
You took a deep breath knowing that since Jonathan wasn't here you couldn't avoid talking to Nance any longer. You passed the familiar faces of your classmates when you finally arrived at your locker. Nancy was there, but she wasn't alone.
Steve Harrington was next to her, blocking the way to your locker with his body. You didn't feel like fighting with anyone today, so you slowly walked over to the two of them.
You could hear them talk to each other, but you didn't understand what they were saying. You took your final step behind Steve as they were kissing and you cursed the universe for this awkward part.
"Um.. Steve? You're kinda blocking my locker..." you said just loud enough for the two to hear. Startled by your voice they both turned to look at you, Nancy's eyes falling on the ground the moment you looked at her.
"Oh, sorry." he immediately moved to the side, his hand holding onto Nancy's.
"Thank you." you replied under your breath, but he was still able to catch it.
"Did you just thank me, Henderson?" he was smirking at the thought of you having nice manners towards him. He may not admit it, but you were always an interesting person to him. Your quiet, but also bold personality always made him entertained.
"Don't get too used to it." your back was facing him as you opened your locker getting everything you needed.
"Well, after this exciting development, I think I need to go to the others. Don't worry too much, okay?" he said to Nancy, before she replied with a soft 'okay'. He leaned towards her placing a kiss on her cheek and left you two alone.
Your eyes fell on your friend's face. She was already looking back at you and you gave her a shy smile as you closed your locker, turning your body to face her completely.
"Hey..."
"Hey." she said.
"Look, um... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have blown off at you yesterday. These have just been some very stressful days and-" you started apologizing when her voice stopped you.
"Y/n, it's okay. I know that I shouldn't have used Will's name like that. I'm sorry too. Thank you for putting some sense into me."
"So, we're okay?" you smiled at your friend.
"Yeah, of course we're okay." you smiled at each other "Is that why you were nice to Steve?"
"I thought not being shitty for once would make you feel like I'm really sorry and that I'm willing to give him a chance." you explained your thoughts
"Well, you definitely achieved that."
"So, what exactly happened yesterday? I heard you two talk and you looked quite worried. He wasn't an asshole, right? If so, I'm taking back my effort of being nice."
"No, no, it's not him. Yesterday was... a big day. It's just that- I can't find Barb today, did you see her somewhere?" you thought the conversation was heading to some more explicit parts, definitely not to your other friend and it made you skeptical.
"Barbara? Um, no, no, I haven't seen her.." the bell rang and you both started walking to your classroom. You glanced at Nancy and her face was as worried as you had first seen her "She left before you yesterday?"
"Yes."
"So, I'm sure she woke up early in the morning and already is at her desk." you reassured her but as you entered the class, no Barbara was found. You looked at each other and you shrugged "I'm sure she's okay, Nancy. She probably didn't feel like going to school today."
"I just can't stop picturing every bad scenario that could happen to her. Now with Will gone, I'm scared the same thing has happened."
You didn't answer her as you took your seats. You couldn't. Maybe she was right. Maybe something bad has happened to her. Now that you know more about Will's disappearance, that some 'thing' is out there, your anxiety started acting up, your own mind creating those scenarios.
If you didn't find her by the end of the day, this evening you would have to keep your eyes out for one more person.
___
The rest of the day was normal. You tried to calm yourself down during class, telling yourself that panic will do you no good for your plan.
After some boring and far too long classes it was finally time for lunch, but as it turns out you couldn't even relax there.
"Nancy, I'm not going to sit with dumb and dumber." you were putting some food on your trays as you talked, hundreds of voices around you filling the cafeteria room.
"You said you were gonna be nicer to Steve."
"To Steve, yes, but not his 'friends'." you warned her.
"Jonathan isn't here and you don't like eating by yourself. I also want to ask them about Barbara. Come on." she simply explained and smiled at you before you headed at the 'King's' table. Carol had her whole leg on the table showing the boys something and Tommy was loudly laughing every now and then. You could already tell it wasn't gonna end well...
"No, I swear. Look at this. It's totally frostbite." Carol said as Nancy sat next to Steve and you took your seat next to her reluctantly.
"It's a heated pool." Tommy said, after he took a bite of his food. He saw you sitting down and eyed you carefully. You didn't give him an answer and just looked down at your own food, trying not to stare at Carol's bruise. It made your stomach turn and you already didn't have that much of an appetite.
"Well, if it’s not frostbite, then what is it?" she asked.
"Ugh, I don’t care what it is, it’s disgusting! Get it off the table. We’re eating here." Steve said annoyed, his mouth half full of food.
"Yes, please." you mumbled.
"I'm sorry, is my foot bothering you?" Carol asked you, acknowledging your existence with a frown on her face. You wanted to slap it so much but resisted your urges.
"Yeah, actually it is." a humorous smile on your face.
"Why are you here, anyway?" her gaze was intimidating, but you just ignored her and took a bite from your food. After a moment of silence and chuckles from Tommy, Nancy's voice filled your ears.
"Hey, Tommy. Yesterday, when you left, did you see Barb?"
"What?" his dumb face asked.
"Barbara. She's not here today." Nancy explained and you could tell talking about her made her nerves perk up. You don't know if any of you could handle another disappearance. But for now you told hold of the hand she had under the table to reassure her.
"I seriously have no idea who you’re talking about." he chuckled along side Carol.
"My God..." you sighed. If he didn't stop acting like a kid, you would slap him right here and now.
"Come on, don’t be an ass, man. Did you- Did you see her leave last night or not?" Steve came to the rescue and you could hardly believe your eyes. Maybe he wasn't as bad after all...
"No, she was gone when we left." he finally answered.
"Probably couldn’t stand listening to all that moaning." Carol couldn't hold her childish behavior for more than two minutes as she started moaning and calling out Steve's name, imitating Nancy from last night. Tommy picked up on the teasing and also started moaning even louder, banging his hands on the table. Nancy couldn't look away from her plate embarrassed, Steve looked annoyed but also proud and you looked at the two making the noises with shock in your eyes.
"Okay, chill." the King demanded and the two stopped their performance.
"Oh, relax. It was the only way for Y/n to hear any kind of moaning."
"Nah, I'm sure she's getting it on with the freak Byers." Tommy corrected Carol and they laughed in your face. Your blood was boiling, but you calmed down your breathing, not falling on their level.
As they were laughing you eyes fell on a figure that was passing the corridor outside of the cafeteria. It was Jonathan. You hated feeding the demonic couple on their absurd story, but you needed to check on Jonathan.
"He's my cue to leave." you pointed at Jonathan to Nancy and picked up your stuff and tray to leave. She tried to hold you down, but you gave her a look and she knew you needed to leave. Meanwhile, Carol laughing even more now that she has managed to 'upset' you. You couldn't let her win. You had to do something.
"Oh, before I leave, I need to give you something, Carol." you turned to look at her with the fakest sweet smile you could pull off. She was staring at you with the most unimpressed glare that soon turned into a shocked one.
You grabbed the pudding you had taken for dessert and dumped it on her pants. Her mouth opened and gave you a hateful look "For you frostbite." you turned to leave quickly, a grin on your face. You winked at Nancy, who was slightly smirking and made your way to the garbage can to throw out the rest of your food.
"You bitch!" you heard Carol squeal. You gave her a smile as you left the cafeteria. She was trying to get the stain out, making Tommy go fetch her some more napkins. Steve was preoccupied talking to Nancy, but you were pretty sure you had seen him smile a little too.
You chuckled while you walked outside on her corridor, jogging to catch up with Jonathan.
"Hey, Jonathan! Did you see that? Oh, Carol's face was priceless..." you smiled faded as you caught glimpse of Jonathan's face "Are-are you okay?" you placed your hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eye.
"It's-it's fine. You know... the usual." you could see something else was bothering him as well, but you just let it go. He'd talk to you when he was ready.
"Okay... Do you want to go somewhere to clear our heads? My treat." you smiled and waited for his answer.
"I-I was actually heading to the darkroom to develop some of the photos I have taken-" he explained and you grabbed his arm as you began walking again.
"Cool, I'll come with. You know I love your photographs."
"Uh... Don't you want to go back to the cafeteria? I don't want to keep you away from lunch time." he stopped walking and pointed back at the way you came from.
"Please, if I go back, Carol with rip my eyes out." you eyed your friend and your brows furrowed "Do you not want me to come with you?" you crossed your arms in front of your chest.
"No, no, it's just..." he played with his hair, something he did when he was nervous and you became very suspicious.
"Jonathan, what's going on?"
He sighed and looked around before taking your hand in his "Okay, I'll show you, but don't freak out, please."
You didn't answer, just followed him to the darkroom. He started developing the pictures, hanging them to dry. In the meantime, he was explaining what he did last night.
"So, yesterday I went out to look for Will and I had my camera with me. I tried to call you, but your mom said you were working and the diner said you didn't come in-"
"Yeah, sorry, I was with the party... They have been dealing with this thing pretty terribly, so I wanted to stay with them." you didn't like lying to him, but it had to stay that way until you knew more about Will's location.
"Yes, yes, of course. So, I was walking around the forest and I stumbled upon-" he began explaining but you stopped him.
"Is that Nancy? And-and Barbara? And Steve?" some of the photos were starting to show and it didn't take long for you to understand who the faces were "Jonathan what is this?" you pointed at the pictures looking him in the eye.
"I-I just came across their party and-"
"And you decided to take pictures of them? Jonathan, I don't want to sound mean, but.. This is kinda creepy." you looked at the rest of them.
"Don't think about it like that. I just- captured the moment." he said quietly.
"And you thought it'd okay to 'capture' this moment as well?" you pointed at the picture showing Nancy's bare back in what you guessed was Steve's room.
But before Jonathan could answer, a girl, Nicole, walked inside the room. You immediately panicked and tried to hide the photos, fearing for her reaction. She places herself next to Jonathan and sent you both a smile, but it faded quickly as her eyes left you and wandered at the photos you and Jonathan had on your hands.
He took them from you and placed them inside his bag leaving the room without a second thought after he took your hand and made you follow him.
"You think she saw?" you thought out loud. You had entered an empty classroom wanting to talk with no other disruptions. Your back was leaning on the door while Jonathan was sitting on top of the teacher's desk, clanging onto his bag.
"Maybe- I- I don't know. I don't care." he stood up walking back and forth.
"Jonathan, if she tells someone, maybe- I mean, how can you not care?" your eyes pleaded for an explanation.
"Cause I have bigger problems to deal with!" he yelled at you, his nerves taking the best of him
"Yeah, exactly. You don't also need another problem, like a smashed car, when- not if- when Steve finds out about this!" you yelled back, rummaging through his bag, showing him the photo of Nancy he had taken.
He stared at the photo, before sighing and rubbing his forehead "I'm sorry..."
"Look... Let's just hope she didn't understand what she actually saw. Maybe she won't tell someone and we're worrying about nothing." you comforted him.
After some time you ended up talking about the rest of his night. He hadn't found anything about where Will might be and it made him lose even more hope. Then he told you about how his mother had acted this morning, fearing for her health and sanity. You wanted to share everything you knew, but you had to wait. Eventually the bell rang and you had to go back to your classes.
___
The moment you stepped out of the school next to Jonathan at the end of the day, you could actually feel a weigh leave your shoulders, but your anxiety was still present. You just wanted to get on your bike, find the kids and go look for Will. You couldn't wait any longer. But, of course, the universe couldn't leave you alone for more than an hour.
You had left Jonathan for a bit to go and grab your bike. You couldn't convince him letting you return home by yourself, so you were on your way of walking towards the parking lot, bike in hand, looking for your friend. Only to find him once again in trouble.
"And here comes the partner in crime." Tommy said as you stopped. You looked around at mess that had created. Steve, Tommy, Carol and the girl from the darkroom, Nicole, were standing opposite of Jonathan, his bag on their hands as well as the photos.
"Shit..." you said under your breath looking over at Jonathan, fear evident in his eyes and you guessed yours as well.
"You told him what we were doing, right? Nancy told you and you got jealous or some shit and thought I'd be fun, right?" Carol's words made you furious.
"You don't know what you're talking about."
"No, I think we have all the evidence we need to figure things out." she said giving you a shove on the shoulders, making your body fall backwards, hit your bike and lose its balance. It hurt landing on top of your bike, but you didn't want to show any sign of discomfort right now.
"Hey, why did you do that?" a voice started nearing you and you looked up to see Nancy coming to help you back on your feet. She took your arm, trying to lift you up, but you just stared at her. You didn't want her to think you had anything to do with this. You feared for her reaction, because nothing about this made you or Jonathan look nice and you knew that.
"Here's the starring lady." Tommy said sarcastically.
"What?" she looked back down at you, asking you what's going on, but Steve beat you to it.
"You might want to leave their side." he said coldly, his eyes looking like stone.
"No, what- what's going on? Why did you push Y/n on the ground?" Nancy was now walking towards Carol, looking angry.
"I'm not the one you should be mad at." she handed her the pictures she was holding "These creeps were spying on us last night. I don't even want to imagine what those two would want to do with this one." you could tell she was talking about the photo of Nancy naked. You were still on the ground, your palms taking in the weight of your head as you sighed. This can't be happening right now...
"See, you can tell that they know it was wrong, but... Man, that's the thing about perverts..." Steve started talking and walking towards Jonathan, who stood next to you.
"Stop it..." you pleaded quietly. You began picking yourself up, hating all the looks on you, especially Nancy's.
"It's hardwired into 'em. You know, they can't help themselves." Steve finished his sentence, as he 'nicely' fixed up Jonathan's collar, before tearing the photos he was holding. He sent you a look and it was the first time you've ever felt inferior towards him. You didn't know why, but he looked disappointed in you and you wanted to make it better "So... We'll just have to take away his toy." he said and walked back to Jonathan's bag and panic arose into your friend.
"Steve..." it was the first time Nancy had spoken after she saw everything and you were more than glad to hear her kind of supporting you.
"No, please, not the camera." Jonathan tried to step in, but Tommy stopped him, while Carol walked up a bit opposite of you as a warning.
"No, no, wait, wait... Tommy, Tommy." Steve told his friend to back off. Tommy did as he was told, chuckling and his friend stepped towards Jonathan handing him the camera "It’s okay. Here you go, man."
But before Jonathan could raise his arm, Steve let it fall on the ground, the sound of glass breaking making you flinch. You knew how important this camera was to Jonathan and how much it cost him to buy it. Now it was useless.
"Come on, let’s go. The game’s about to start." the king announced and left you two to deal with the mess yourselves.
"Boo." Tommy told you as a joke as he walked off.
Carol approached you along side Nicole as she ripped in half the rest of the photos "Bye."
You stared down at them exhausted, Jonathan still starring at the broken camera. You knelt down and started picking them up. You heard Steve call out for Nancy in the distance, only now realising she was still there with you. You looked up to see her take some pieces of the teared photos on her hands. She looked at you quickly and you found your chance to speak "Nancy, this isn't what it looks like-" she was gone before you could finish.
___
The only thing that made you feel a bit at ease is that you wouldn't be late at your meeting, even after this mess. You had a class less than the kids today, so you had plenty of time to pick up the pieces of the photographs and the camera. You didn't talk much as Jonathan drove you to your house. You didn't know what to say or what to do. You just wanted to forget that it had happened at all. You took your bike out of his trunk and said a simple goodbye as you watched him drive away.
You took a deep breath and made your way at the back of Mike's house, where Eleven was already waiting for you all. You were a bit early. You had hoped to have some time to yourself to calm down your thoughts, but you guessed it'd be best to distract yourself from thinking anything for a moment than thinking about everything all at once.
As you came closer you saw that Eleven wasn't moving, she looked as if she was frozen in time and it worried you. You parked your bike on the fence and slowly walked up to her "Eleven?" she didn't respond. You touched her shoulder and that's when she snapped out of whatever trance she was on. She looked around her eyes falling on you "Hey, it's okay. You're okay." she just kept looking at you. She looked scared. This was the first time she had allowed you to be this close to her. You could tell she needed the support and you were ready to give it to her. But someone interrupted your moment.
"You guys okay?" you turned to see the kids on top of their bikes looking at you. Mike was closer to the two of you as he asked you the question.
You took a last glance at Eleven who was nodding at Mike "Yeah, everything's okay."
"Okay, come on, hop on." Mike patted his saddle waiting for El to sit down. You could see her being a bit hesitant, but you encouraged her a little giving her a pat on the back. You motioned for them to start heading for the forest and you'll follow along in a bit.
You placed your body on top of your bike and started riding behind them after a couple minutes. Dustin was riding a bit slower than the rest making you grin "You didn't have to wait for me. I can catch up to you all easily."
"Are you okay?" he asked you genuinely. You both hated and loved the fact that he can so easily tell when you're not fine.
"You don't have to worry about me, Dusty. We have to focus on the plan, okay?" you smiled at him and he did the same as you continued riding towards the forest.
___
You've been searching for a couple hours now and the day has started turning dark. You, Dustin and Lucas have been following behind Mike and Eleven and you all have began feeling less hopeful about this whole thing. It felt like you were heading nowhere and when you eventually found your destination, it felt like every strength you had had left your body.
"What are we doing here?" Lucas asked Mike, after letting his bike fall to the ground. You looked at the house realising you spent these past few hours heading to the one house you didn't even need to search. The Byers residence.
"She said he's hiding here?" Mike said just as confused as all of you looked.
"What?" you asked, leaning onto your bike, your legs killing you.
"Um... no!" Lucas said annoyed.
"I swear, if we walked all the way out here for nothing-" your brother spoke up, before Lucas interrupted him.
"That’s exactly what we did. I told you she didn’t know what the hell she was talking about!"
"She must have a reason to bring us here!" you stepped in as you saw Eleven looking a bit lost "Eleven, why are we here?" you asked calmly, but she didn't know how to respond.
"Eleven?" Mike spoke up trying to get her to talk, but the girl just started stammering
"Don't waste your time with her." Lucas' words sounded angrier and angrier by the second and it started irritated those around him, especially Mike.
"What do you want to do then?"
"Call the cops, like we should have done yesterday." Lucas said, none of you noticing Dustin walking further away from the group.
"We are not calling the cops!" Mike protested.
"No, not the cops." you said, your thoughts recalling a memory.
"What?" Lucas looked at you as if you were crazy.
"We need to talk to the Byers... Jonathan told me something today about his mother and I think that maybe it-"
"Guys!" Dustin's voice stopped you. You all turned to look at him and immediately picked up on what he was referring to.
Sirens. Police cars. Red and blue lights filling the darkness. An ambulance following behind.
"Will..." Mike expressed all of your thoughts.
Your heart was stuck in your throat as you started following behind the commotion. You feared for the worst and hoped for the best.
You end up at the quarry. So many police cars in sight. As well as fire trucks and the ambulance... You didn't have much more hope now. You all hid behind a firetruck and watched in silence as police men were taking a body out of the lake.
"No, it's not Will. It can't be." Mike said, desperate for it to be true. But as you watched the body coming closer, its clothes made it as clear as the water it was in.
"Oh, God..." your hand covered your mouth as shock filled your body, the other one reaching for your brother.
"It's Will. It's really Will." Lucas said. You saw as Mike stepped backwards.
"Mike..." Eleven called out.
" 'Mike'? 'Mike' what? You were supposed to help us find him alive. You said he was alive! Why did you lie to us? What’s wrong with you? What is wrong with you?" he snapped at her and tears filled your eyes.
"Mike..."
"What?" he told her, not expecting an answer as he turned to get his bike and take off.
"Mike, come on. Don’t do this, man. Mike…" Lucas tried to stop him from leaving, but the boy had already made up his mind.
"Mike, where are you going? Mike!" Dustin cried out and you fell on your knees to hug him.
"Mike!" Lucas tried on more time, the tears wetting his cheeks. You motioned for him to hug you as well.
So you sat there for who knows how long hugging your brother and your friend, trying to stop the pain from taking control over your body and mind, your heart already shattered into pieces.
