Community meal from last night was bomb! Tofu and veggie wonton wrap, fruit, potato soy chorizo casserole, and a pear salad. I've been getting into the habit of going on a wall around my neighborhood. The houses in the historic district are so beautiful and each one is so unique. I also ran into a clan of 7 peacocks! What a way to start my morning. :)

Stronglifts 5x5!!!
I started a new workout routine! Strong lifts 5x5. It’s super quick and supposed to be effective. I knew I needed something that is simple but provides structure. It’s sounds like something I can keep up with and won’t get discouraged. I did my first workout this morning!
You only do 3 lifts 3 times a week. 5 reps, 5 sets. You rotate between workout A and workout B. Workout A: squats, bench press, row Workout B: squats, overhead press, deadlift
http://stronglifts.com/5x5/ There's even an app to track your progress.
I’m going to be working out on Thursday, Saturday, Monday. I’m not a morning person and I don’t have to be up early for work/school on those days. :) If any of you have tried Stronglifts, let me know what you think.

I've got a cold! And I was really craving some brothy soup to sooth my throat. My research advisor, who is vegetarian, recommended Amy's No Chicken Noodle! I'm so glad this existed! I went to Sprouts right after my lab meeting and purchased 3 cans!

Productivity Buddy!!!!
This semester I really have to crunch to get things done. I only have classes on one day of the week, but I have to do A TON of work on my thesis.
Introducing my productivity buddy, Sarah --->
Tumblr media
She also has a crap ton of work to get done with no one to monitor her.
We both suffer from the downward spiral of lack of progress discouraging us and creating more lack of progress. I came across the idea of a productivity buddy on the podcast No Meat Athlete Radio. On one of the podcasts he talked about how he gets together with a friend/productivity buddy every week and they talk about what they got done and failed to do the previous week and what they need to do next week and how they can do it better.
This sounded like a great idea to me. I really benefit from having a coach anytime I’m trying to accomplish anything - whether that’s a mentor or peer at work, a trainer at the gym, or a coach on an athletic team. I hate letting people down. I called up Sarah, because I knew she had mentioned needing motivation and we met for our first meeting last Wednesday. We went to a vegan chain restaurant called the loving hut, ate delicious food and talked about our goals for the week. Each day we text each other in the morning what we want to get done and in the evening we send each other a progress note. This is probably the most productive I’ve been for a while. I’ve done things that have been waiting for me for months.
On top of meeting with Sarah, I’ve been keeping a productivity journal. Every evening before dinner I try to take 10 minutes to write about the positives an negatives that day in terms of work and productivity. Then on the next page, I write my to-dos for the next day and identify the “frog” for the next day. http://www.briantracy.com/blog/time-management/the-truth-about-frogs/
This system has been working better than anything I’ve done before! Back to work and to eat today’s frog!

For tonight's community dinner, I made veganized a Julia Child recipe. Her leek and potato soup calls for: Potatoes Leeks or onions (I used both) Water to cover veggies Salt and pepper (instead of salt, I threw in a couple veggie Bouillon cubes) Butter (I used vegan butter) Whipping cream ( I used almond milk) Since I was making this for a large group I used about 5 lbs of potatoes, 4 small leeks, 3 onions, 3 bouillon cubes, pepper, two large spoonfuls or earth balance, and a cup and a half of original unsweetened almond milk. I garnished it with chives.
