What if I proposed the analysis that Belos actually has very little internal moral compass and that his veneer of righteousness has always been implied by the writers to be complete fabricated bullshit even before watching and dreaming basically confirms it.

Some of my thoughts on maxton hall and why i loved it so much:

- im so glad that they didnt have james being a dickbag and kissing other girls after he met ruby

- the contrast of james and ruby’s families, the polar opposite in fathers. I love how they still had james and lydia be each other’s rocks in such a crappy situation when they have no one else, even if their relationship isn’t the best. The dichotomy of their relationship to ruby’s and ember’s? things can go wrong but they are sisters who love each other deeply.

-i loved the very pride and prejudice esque scenes of ruby dressing james down, and every time he deserved to be told off but it still makes ruby feel guilty afterwards. there’s a moral compass of ruby that james hated at first but it humbles him? Chefs kiss its so fucking good. He betters himself just like darcy and the change is seen even by his parents.

- the scene of ruby telling james off in the oxford course, its a pivotal scene because everything she says digs at things he knows. Young Beaufort wasnt his idea, it was Lydia’s and he’s taking credit and charge of it. He feels bad, he’s forced into it, but it’s the “you go through life representing wealth to which you have contributed absolutely nothing? With so much money, there’s no need for your own ideas.” Ruby has no idea how hard that actually hits home, and you can see Lydia take a step back mentally and yeah she agrees. The rest of it, how people will only like him for his money and not himself, that also hits so close. We see how Cyril laughs inspite of James’ pain, Alister is impressed by Ruby’s dress down but no one goes after James like a true friend would. As the series goes on you see how Alister and James grow closer as he becomes a better person, you see the care and concern because they’re in similar places but Alister isn’t as proud or arrogant as James is. I really love how by the end of the series, you have James and Alister confiding in each other.

- the scene on the lacrosse field, the way she apologizes and he is arrogant but decides to be nice because he is curious, and finds out that he does like her. She humbles him and makes him want to do better, she’s not the enemy and he kinda respects her for it. I also think, he’s never had anyone genuinely apologize to him, because he’s never had anyone wrong him but his own family. The apology, it’s a catalyst for him to let go of this resentment he has for her, in the truth she dug up in him.

- i am very happy that they have the good and the bad with ruby’s parents. The guilt that Ruby feels and the way her father is not happy that she is “wasting” her money on saving for his lift. There’s care there, but it’s hard nonetheless, those are big emotions to have years after an accident like he experienced.

- piggy backing off of that, the pivotal scene of James saving Ruby from the pool, that even though he didn’t know why she didnt come up but didnt hesitate to jump in? CHEFS KISS! The scene after of her confiding in him, him being so gentle and careful and being honest with percy, that he’s in over his head but he likes ruby, he wants to help her and has helped her. Oof just so fucking good!

- the way they keep telling each other that they should go back to never knowing each other, but every time fail because they’re meant to collide now, they MATTER to each other now

- i just really am glad they had him apologize for the shitty way his father was to her. That he was embarrassed by himself and his father. It was excruciating to have her get humiliated by his father. He’s only experienced it within his own family, but having it happen to Ruby? that changed things.

- they fucking nailed the cute scenes between them. The dancing in the victorian clothes, the chasing pigeons, the planning and setting up of the gala? Hell yeah!

- The whole fourth episode was chef’s kiss, no notes just purely good storytelling

More thoughts later but this is what i’ve got rn after rewatching the show for the third time

CR3: EPISODE 63 SPOILERS

I'm literally losing my mind rn guys

i haven't even finished the episode yet as im typing this, currently ashton is holding laudna as she cries on their shoulder after she sucked the life out of bor'dor.

i always had the suspicion that bor'dor wasn't telling the truth or telling a version of the truth, but i never really talked about it cause everyone was throwing out theories. i had an...inkling that he was connected to ludinus or just ruidus in general, and i was right in a way.

him being ruby vanguard is devastating but not surprising. it connected so many things that i chose to brush off cause i didn't want to seem paranoid. a specific moment being bor'dor killing the angel of the dawn father. during that scene, the way matt described the look in that angel's eyes as it died did not match the way that bor'dor retold it and i thought i had just...forgotten how the actual scene played out. now that i know, even tho i haven't rewatched that episode, i have a feeling that the hatred and righteous judgement i remembered was the accurate version.

i don't think bor'dor is bad, simply because i have no way to come to that conclusion when i know how easy it is to let fear and pain and anger drive you to vengeance -- the hellians are feeling it too, and i feel deep compassion for them so i feel for bor'dor too.

for all of ludinus' preachy bullshit he never gave me the impression that he gave a single fuck about the people who followed him or about the lives he ruined to accomplish his goal. i don't think bor'dor was some big wig, i think he was just a kid who was vulnerable and powerful and easily coerced. i do not think he is without blame -- his actions with the ruby vanguard have led to incomprehensible repercussions for everyone on exandria and outside of exandria too. (bear in mind, we don't even know how the apple bee's soul cycle has affected the fey realm -- or any other realms for that matter).

i think that there was no way bor'dor could have survived this night with the way it went. i don't think there could have been a moment where he snuck away. if he got a lucky roll, maybe. i don't think bor'dor died because /he/ was an unforgivable monster.

he died because laudna, ashton and orym were at their breaking point and none of them wanted to pull each other from that place of hatred and anger. they've spoken about feeling powerless -- terrified and angry at the situation they were forced into when they truly have nothing to do with ludinus' anger at the gods. orym, especially, has been struggling with his grief and his stubbornness, and this moment will have effects on all of them for these upcoming battles and hardships.

laudna. jesus christ. im so upset that delilah is back. or at least pieces of her are thriving inside laudna, seemingly every time she uses her necrotic magic. for a single moment, she felt delilah's complete control over herself and other people in a situation where laudna had no idea what to do and how to get shit done, and as soon as delilah had nothing left of bor'dor to scavenge off of, laudna was back to feeling weak.

i can't even process the lore drops of ashton's heritage and his father and the history of the hishari and the fact that abadina WAS an hishari ???? they need to go that cursed town soon or im gonna lose it. hell, maybe they're already headed there.

deni$e might say she didn't care whether bor'dor lived or died but i know that isn't true because she was a) the only person who didn't actually hurt him and b) she was trying the entire time to get the others to at least interrogate him. i don't think that would work for multiple reasons. bor'dor was yeeted to kingdom come so bor'dor would likely not have anything useful for them atp, and also bor'dor is absolutely not nearly as important to ludinus as they need him to be.

im gonna miss utkarsh 😭

i think that maybe if bells hells was together, he'd live. but ashton, laudna and orym are too... there's something dangerous about these three being separated from their people. dangerous for themselves mentally and for anyone who stands in their way. i NEED bells hells to be reunited again.

it's sad that the characters with such a strong history of loss and betrayal and abandonment and grief and loss of control would have the traitor amongst them. there is nothing that bor'dor could say that would lessen the pain orym feels having lost his husband and his father, of him and his friends being killed by a cruel, vicious comrade of ludinus', of the tempest being trapped /because/ orym was the one who led her straight into it. the gods are all good and well, but i don't think it will EVER be about the gods for orym. i won't say he's correct or in the right for his narrowed vision and hardened heart. he took that locket for a reason, and throwing it aside is a calculated disposal of that inherently inconvenient empathy orym has for people around him. he can't afford to feel. not now.

does anyone ever apologize for how Ava was treated those first few eps of WN? Sorry I’m watching rn and it’s really grinding my gears how the OCS is acting like *shes* self-centered for not wanting to die for catholicism. Or being called a coward for allegedly killing herself as if her life for 12 years wasn’t hell (due to the neglect/abuse, mostly, not inherently her paralysis but that too) . like I feel like the show is …agreeing? with all these ppl calling Ava selfish etc and I’m like ‘actually ava should’ve killed more people’

I held off answering this bc I haven't rewatched S1 since it dropped 2 years ago and my notorious swiss cheese memory isn't helping but

the narrative DOES NOT side with calling anyone a coward for ending their lives as far as I recall that's something the evil nun from the orphanage did and they took their time to showcase how evil it is to have that much of a lack of compassion to someone neglected abused not to mention orphaned and abandoned and sequestred to their sick bed for 12 yrs.

I think for the ocs though it's another story bc you have to remember that the situation isn't. as clear cut as it seems which is where the conflict resides and which makes it all the more interesting! A good chunk of S1 is spent showing that, yes the OCS sees the bigger picture, mostly, but a whole lot of them bring in their own personal biases and the show really underlines it: lilith is resentful bc the halo has become the be-all end-all of validation of her identity, mother superion is extra hard on ava bc ava reminds her too much of her former self that the halo rejected but somehow the halo still wouldn't reject ava, mary is on a revenge trail, duretti wants to be pope before all else, etc.

And ava ofc did NOT ask to be given the halo. She didn't ask to become a savior with otherwordly powers but the fact is the halo chose her AND is keeping her alive. The ethical dilemma here is: you can't take the halo away without killing ava, but being the halo bearer MEANS you've become responsible for more than just your own life. And I think the show did a good job of showing ava that yeah! she matters!! her pain matters and she deserves being heard! but her powers are meant to protect MORE than herself, her pain isn't the only one deserving of consideration. And I think having beatrice be the one to slowly guide her into this, beatrice who's the only OCS member who sees both the big picture AND HAS NO stake of her own in the matter, beatrice who sees the warrior nun AND ava, is such a fundamental building block to her overarching arc that takes her from the limited view from her sick bed to becoming the person who can shoulder both her pain and others', someone who can belong and find community with her sisters and eventually love with beatrice.

I need to rewatch the full series again (because I am to the point that I am starting to conflate details from the original canon and my own canon) but I'm certain that it's implied that Scarab went full "Set with Osiris' corpse" on Rapses' corpse (maybe to get at Rapses' now trapped soul after Scarab killed him, or to spite Amenhotep and the Guardians' efforts by denying Rapses his eternal rest), which is why Amenhotep had nothing to bury but an empty sarcophagus :(

Making sure that the body is properly mummified and buried is a BIG STINKING DEAL in ancient Egypt and if the body was lost or destroyed then the spirit wouldn't be able to find its way! Destroying the body (or the khat, as it was referred to) is like smashing the spirit's compass to pieces! It can't pass into the afterlife and become lost without the familiar touchstone of its earthly body!

(Honestly, really makes me wonder about what the procedure was for war times because I doubt the war dead could always be found, identified, and mummified before burial. Did ancient Egypt have their own version of dog tags? Did their beliefs have a loophole/special exception for dead soldiers whose bodies couldn't be recovered or treated? Were they just screwed if no one recovered their body before decomposition set in or the scavengers got to it? Another avenue of research to add to the ever growing pile, I suppose)

This is what I interpret to be the reason that Rapses' spirit wandered for so long. Poor boy was super lost!

So lost that he somehow managed to wander clear to the other side of the world and end up reincarnated in modern times. (Honestly, I'm unclear about how ancient Egyptian mythos regarded the idea of reincarnation. I'll have to do further research but I don't have time rn sadly, but from what I do know, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility)

okay. I have a confession to make. I tried to read lord of the rings like several times. got halfway through the first book, it’s good it’s just dense and I keep stopping to attempt to paint the scenery and getting distracted and discouraged. please please no spoilers but give me motivation to try read it again!

I’m rereading rn and totally get the struggle with how dense it is, there’s a lot of information! For me, I just rewatched the movies which I think helps because I have an idea of where the stories going/who more of the people are. Every couple chapters I give my brain a break and read something that takes less effort (rn it’s Percy Jackson, which I’ve read like 6 times). Giving your brain time to process helps!

I also follow the wonderful artist @frodo-with-glasses who illustrates random scenes from lotr. Seeing art from the chapter I’m on has made me want to keep reading!

I would absolutely recommend the books. The dialogue is delightful, and the world that’s created feels real. As you read, more history is given and all the pieces that were super confusing start to make sense. The heart of the book is that ordinary people can do extraordinary things- that no matter who you are, you are significant. And that’s really fucking comforting. The importance of friendship, of compassion, of listening, the connections between individuals! The characters drive the narrative, and the more you learn about them the more you’ll want to read. I think once you get through the first book (the first half of fellowship) the story picks up a little as there’s more characters to follow. It is slow paced, and information isn’t given all at once, but that’s the way it is for the characters as well. The hobbits don’t know where they’re going, what the history of their quest is, and you learn alongside them. You’re put into the world with these characters, and you get to go on the journey with them.

Sorry for the super long answer, but I hope I helped! Also, if you want someone to discuss chapters with or answer any questions about parts that are dense/confusing, I’m always happy to talk about these books!!

I loved the emperor so much, and the relationship between Consort Yue and Empress Xuan was probably one of my favorite parts of the shown. Both of them are amazing characters in their own right and they're both so good— Consort Yue having no time for power hungry, greedy people or drama and Empress Xuan with her kindness, compassion — but the respect they have for each other is beautiful.

The Cheng family and I have been through many ups and downs together... While was always a fan of the younger generation, the older generations were on my hit list for a while. They grew on me, though. While nothing erases the past, I do appreciate the growth, and the scenes of them coming to the rescue had me cheering.

The angst in this damn show! It hurt! My rewatch is on-hold rn, but I don't know how I will cope watching ep 48 again.

I rly wish I would create Glee content, but I just don’t have enough fixation on it so it gets pushed to the end of the queue.

Hyperfixation aside, rewatching all my favorite old movies from my childhood. What’s up doc, Singing in the rain, Roman holiday, My fair lady, Pollyanna, Chitty chitty bang bang, etc. Later on The sure thing and Crazy moon (11/10s please fucking watch these.) My dad raised me with good taste 😌

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

Thanksgiving break, I was a “victorian child on their literal deathbed” brand of ill.

Not so hidden but I play the flute, going on 9 years. More unexpected? I’m really fucken good at maths, just comes naturally.

as you know for me, i'm definitely pulling for ayato with my guaranteed pity at 25 (i managed to secure layla within 20 pulls on childe's banner) + i have 80 fates saved rn, so it is safe to say the man will come home safe to me! i grinded so hard like i collected dendro sigils, the lumenstones and the res crystals at dragonspine to get those 2 free fates hoyoverse gave out 😭 i think after i get ayato, i'll probably go back to my "pulling on the banner i regret the least" technique. i hope ayato comes home early, so i'd still have some leftover fates <//3 EITHERWAY, BEST OF LUCK TO BOTH OF US! ✨
