TGH Ch 30: Daes Dae’mar

Hello! I’m back. So I did loose the rest of this chapters tbh. Now I’m planning on being a little less, uh, thorough for this resurrection of my read thru -lol we will see how that goes.

disclaimer: there will be spoilers, I will tag them but this is a book from 30 years ago that I am desperately trying to finish. I am very ADHD and this helps me do that. Also, it’s my first read thru but I am somewhat familiar with the story and what is going to happen, probably not enough to not be surprised tho. Happy reading!

Sum. … last I remember Rand was running from some Trollocs and causing many problems in the Fireworks Guild trying not to be caught. Lanfear -my beloathed- was there. Now he’s trying to rescue Hunin and the horn from the fire in his Inn. Will Lanfear appear again?! Will they safely escape their burning inn?! Find out, or remember by reading all my quips -well half of them- for this chapter of The Great Hunt!

Oh if only there was a way for someone to help put this fire out. If only there was some means, perhaps some magical ability to control the fire and the air and clear out the smoke and flame. Hmmm

“But he’d risk the taint” let’s be honest there’s very little hope for him there. 

Poor Moiriane really was/is trying to help. I may not agree -or outright despise- some of her methods but she’s truly is trying to help best she can, both the world and Rand himself. She coulda just taken that banner and hidden it but has allowed him to choose what to do with it.  

Give him back his fucking clothes though! I don’t care if they suck! Or that the new ones are better -it’s been years(?) and yes I’m still mad about it! (Also yes it’s a me problem!)

Lanfear did not appear and I am not sad about it. Really it’s a shame that I do not like her because I can recognize her as peak girlfail trying to girlboss poorly, but it’s like, ma’am plz you are so cringe and he is like 17. I think I need to just view her under vampire rules -still a cringe girlfail but perhaps tolerable. Find out and… idk, I check the tags? Truly no reliable way to find anything on this hellsite. 

This chapter was great fun. Suffering, reunions, decisions! What else could one ask for?

PS: I think I may just post a chapter at a time. We will see how that goes. I may post more than once a day depending on how fast I can read, write, and edit these. Really the editing is the hardest and longest part. Tho I think I may just not try as hard to edit them this time around to speed things up and make it more fun -I will try to make it coherent-ish?

Starting off by saying I have some relationship horror stories I could tell (I will not). I am VERY aware of the potential dangers. Notable age gap relationships with teenagers are not something I would encourage at all (and if I can tell all of you one thing, it's to never let yourself be isolated from your safe circles by a partner. keep yourself safe.)

But I know a couple who started dating at 16 and 20 respectively. Years later, they are both adults with a kid. I have a friend whose parents are 10 years apart in age, and another friend whose mother started dating a guy who could almost be her son, with something like a ~20 years age gap. They currently are raising a kid together.

And just for a last kick: you know Céline Dion? the singer? My Heart Will Go On? Her. She fell in love with her manager at 16. He was 26 years older than her. She met him when she was 12. She made a move on him at 20. They married when she was 26 and were married for 22 years, until his death, and had 3 children together. Céline Dion still talks about him as her one and only.

But most importantly... Dazai and Oda are characters. They're fake people. Dolls. They only do what you make them do. You control their feelings and intentions. Not only is their age gap only 4 years and with time, that gap would come to be meaningless, but YOU decide if/when they act on it, if they are conflicted, if it's one-sided, etc. Others shipping them are doing the same. Fiction is an exploration. Not an argument for validity.

Sometimes people meet and the relationship changes over time. Sometimes someone has a crush on someone they shouldn't. Sometimes someone develops feelings that go unrequited. Sometimes relationships have concerning but ultimately fine age gaps.

You don't have to ship it, like it, or want to see it. You can have personal reasons to hate it, it can squick you for no real reason, or you can have an OTP that makes you dislike other pairings. You don't even have to tolerate the ship: block it, filter it, close your eyes and scroll by, whatever. Like with any other ship you don't want to see!

Love how they do behave like a DnD party but we get the narration that no, NPCs are listening and reacting to this very suspicious and concerning conversations happening in the middle of the street. 

Mat: (summarizes the last few weeks for him)… & where the hell have you been? Rand: Perrins a what?!

Inn found: The Great Tree. Innkeeper: Mistress Tiedra. 

Hurin didn’t smell any Trollocs and tbh I’m not sure there ever were any. Sry Rwnd my guy, I still support most of your wrongs. 

… I don’t think Rand is doing well. Like, this is a lot of suspicion. Which is somewhat reasonable but… idk. This is all a lot for anyone and uh, he’s more than anyone regrettably for him

It’s like a heist thing! Gotta get in and do the things to the rich guy/s! 

That’s not dignity Perrin it’s fear and discomfort. With a good dash of “I hate this” but because of the former. 

Amazing! Verin: looks at the kings letter “well this is trash” burns it. I love her.

Oh oh right. So, uh Barthanes has the horn. That’s what the heist is for. It is a literal heist. I mean, this book has almost everything. We got to a heist, we started with an adventure novel, survival, several other things, and now also a heist. I probably should have mentioned -or tbh realized- this earlier. 

Oh right the giant ass buried statues. Which are apparently the largest of the sa’angreal which can be used by channelers and seem very powerful. The one we’ve seen can only be used by men. There’s two in total. Hmm… I’m sure they couldn’t be important at all. The womens one is on Tremalking. Wherever that is. Apparently they were created as weapons which were never used. So. Probably not important at all. /s

I am sure rn Rand is terrified but this is overpowered by him suspecting the ancient statutes are (somehow) part of the plot to control him and still trying to convince himself he is not the Dragon. Mmm mmm nope. This is all part of the plot to frame him as a false dragon. Nothing else. 

Well what a relief they must be used in tandem to Break the World but one wonders how much damage they could do alone?! /s (the big ass sa’angreal)

… you need to be very powerful to use them. Whose that powerful? No *widely* known man, and several women including Moiriane. No worries until the Dragon proclaims himself. *stares off into the distance suspiciously close to Rand* surely no Aes Sedai would help with that tho right? (Yes sure Verin. Wait did she lie…? No… no I think not)

Perrin, Rand knows less than you think you do. By far. And you admit to not knowing much. I mean technically Rand knows a lot, but tbh I feel like he’s too in denial to actually use that information. 

Another great chapter. Bands back together. Verin is here. They are going to do a heist in a nobles house for the Horn which rests on Rand’s shoulders, and his impeccable half-hated new wardrobe of three very nice coats. More letters were burned. Everyone is loosing it a little bit imo. Absolute a+’s all around.
