so thats my guy chucklefuck and ive been looping this song for a WHILE so its their song now!!

i know for a fact i have Not gotten the chance to talk about chucklefuck here so im gonna be using this as an excuse to talk about them a bunch! basically theyre. best adapted to be a ttrpg campaign character, for one. but theyre a spy bot created by The Main Oppressive Regime to mislead their peers, as well as spy on them and report back. so basically if i played them id be rolling bluff checks every 5 seconds because of their other main gimmick: they think theyre the funniest bitch in the world. see to avoid suspicion they elect to play under the "beep boop, i am a robot" facade. this is Incredibly fucking funny to them bc. yknow the gags where a robot character will do some faux pas or embarrass another character in the party but its not like they Meant to they didnt know any better. well. yeah this guy definitely knew better and they are Living It Up.

im not gonna explain their whole Deal but i will say that i think they Will eventually get found out bc they cant bullshit forever and thats where i think the song fits bc they kindaaa. only exist to be in service of CapitalismCorp Incorporated and havent had enough freedom ever to really think of this as a Bad thing really. theyve got this Delight at watching the world burn and they know that includes them but they sure don't care! why would they?

HI i would LOVE to talk about george thank you so much. also this makes me realize i've never actually sat down and just made a post unabashedly infodumping at length abt an oc before and it seems silly that i haven't. i ask only for all dear readers to please temper their expectations for this post with the knowledge that i just smoked half a joint before sitting down to answer it. a small one. but still. anyway

he's the character i'm playing in a playtest campaign of the absolutely mesmerizing sapphicworld, an in-development ttrpg!!! and if i'm going to be talking about cookie i feel like i HAVE to say i think a huge amount of her charm and dazzle and charisma comes directly from the charm and dazzle and charisma of the setting i created her for. i know i am laying it on really thick right now but that is on purpose. i want, desperately and unashamedly, for this game to get really popular bc 1. it's genuinely that good. and it's not even DONE yet and 2. i want everyone to get into it so that everyone will make sapphicworld characters and then i'll get to see everyone's sapphicworld characters.

EDIT i'm scrolling back up here and adding a readmore bc this is already getting so long lol. you asked for "a little more" and apparently i have graciously decided this means "literally every fact about cookie that exists in my brain"

SO a lot of the info/tidbits i haven't shared about cookie are i guess gameplay-specific stuff... his title (which is like a class/playbook) is "The Noble Sweetheart," though in sapphicworld "nobility" no longer has anything to do with wealth or class, and is instead entirely about amassing a court purely via devotion/popularity; her subculture (which is like, Who You Hang Out With; drifters, goths, poets, debauchers, cowpokes, etc) is Babe; and her kind (which is like ancestries but in sapphicworld is really just like, a physical form, which u can change more or less at will) is Lunarthrope, which is basically a werewolf!! or more broadly a furry, since u always look like whatever were-animal you are 24/7. just MORE at night, tho i suppose i don't represent that aspect much in my cookie art... ANYWAY i am restraining myself from just sitting here and like. transcribing her entire character sheet. but basically what all this means is that cookie's role in the world (at least at the beginning of the campaign) is "Professionally — no, VOCATIONALLY Hot Person who everyone loves so so so so so so much." cookie really enjoys this role.

he's named cooking with gorgeous because he's an avid cook, and he wants to share that with you, and he's gorgeous!! though honestly the cooking hasn't ended up as important to his character as it was when i first came up with him, lol — but my initial concept was kind of like, what's the equivalent of a bouncy normie recipe blogger/lifestyle influencer but in the context of the lush horny trans deathless psychedelic universe of sapphicworld. and it's cooking with gorgeous, a doggirl dyke with big blue boobs (six of them!!) who is so devastatingly cute and darling that a bunch of people just kind of pledge their fealty to him for no real reason other than he feeds them. and is cute

also her name is def influenced by the fantastic names of many canon sapphicworld npcs! like, quick example list of some npc names off the top of my head: the booty commie, death cybernetic, princess eureka!, the culinary goof (whom cookie dislikes. btw.), pizza friday (whom cookie loves!!!)

cookie is very very determined, and she's ALMOST always very confident. even when she isn't feeling confident, she's still very good at forcing herself to keep putting one foot in front of the other — maybe just while screaming or crying or uncontrollably barking or at least very ardently complaining. he has a tendency to be spoiled and, like, tactless-via-obliviousness, so sometimes he can be grating to interact with, and he has a petty/vindictive streak; but in general he's an AGGRESSIVELY kind person and usually aims all his shrill, cheerful stubbornness directly toward the goal of refusing to accept anything but the best for everyone.

at the beginning of our campaign cookie has JUST received a brand new castle!!!! (chateau gorgeous.) which he doesn't actually "own" bc, remember, no wealth or class in sapphicworld, but he's the ENTHUSIASTIC new caretaker and is chomping at the bit to renovate it so ppl can live there and he can throw a bunch of magnificent parties and basically continue living exactly as he has been, But Even More Fabulous. obviously this is exactly when the main plot threat of the campaign shows up and spoils everything and compels cookie to go on his First Ever Adventure!!!!!! she HAS to save the world otherwise NOBODY will be able to go to the first big party at chateau gorgeous :((((

at this point to prevent myself from just like, giving you guys a play by play of the entire campaign so far i am going to just start listing every cookie fact i can think of as bullet points

🎀 he owns a magical sword in the shape of a giant microplane. it's called The Microplane. he pronounces this "mee-crow-plah-nay"

🎀 george desperately wants to resurrect The Dog-Lich, an entity that once ruled over all beasts from its palace on the moon but was murdered and torn to pieces in a cosmic war far in the past. her attitude towards this desire is 50% devoted lunar cultist, 50% parasocially obsessive twitter stan

🎀 this isn't really a cookie fact but going back to how his title is The Noble Sweetheart — just for a glimpse at party composition, his fellow party members' titles are The Intimate Scholar, The Tentacle Advocate, and The Tw*nk Controversial (the * is the canon spelling).

^ aforementioned tw*nk. its name is Mwah ("pronounced like the kiss you blow at someone you just fucked over"). mwah is played by @/squiddelyfather on twitter!

🎀 mwah and cookie used to be very, very tight, BEFORE mwah became the tw*nk controversial. now that it's so.... you know.... controversial, well. they're still very close, but it has gotten a little stilted and weird (and watching them slowly un-weird it together as the campaign goes on has been one of my fav roleplay experiences ever honestly)

🎀 cookie's other adventuremates, skarligge and delaryn, are both very indulgent towards him. delaryn acts the most grumpy/dismissive about it but is honestly sometimes the worst about spoiling cookie out of anyone in the party (skarligge's player is twt@/clown_dream and delaryn's is twt@/glaiveguisarme and hey while im at it our fantastic gm is the sapphicworld dev, twt@/ddemoneclipse. hi guys i hope u don't mind me chattering abt ur ocs here lol it's just hard to talk abt the best of cookie w/o bringing up everyone else's characters and roleplay also!!!)

🎀 cookie is very VERY sensitive and will burst into tears at the drop of a hat. the precursor to this is her eyes getting So So So Big And Wet And Round. one of my favorite bits to menace the other party members with is when something is not going cookie's way i will lean into my mic and say "cookie's eyes are getting so so so big. they're getting so big and wet and round and shiny. they're so so round and fucking big her eyes are like big wet black glass marbles" and this is like kryptonite to them. this is like getting hit with deadly radiation

🎀 oh speaking of fashion!!!! one of cookie's perks from being a Babe is that she can always change her look whenever she wants. she will ALWAYS have whatever outfit she needs and can quickchange instantly. wait this reminds me i have a bunch of seasonal holiday outfits sketched out and i don't think i've ever posted them here but it'll only let me put one more image in this post. well here have this one

i love self shipping, and self ship circles have always been fun and important to me cuz i enjoy sharing this with others and seeing what they have. but also this shit has become so taxing and exhausting lately i think thats why i keep my self ship thoughts in my Brain and only wanna Talk abt oc and ttrpg stuff.

ive seen some of the worst behaviors from ppl here. like, ive seen ppl up close and personal being some of the most rude and selfish ppl imaginable. ive SEEN ppl make up lies abt other ppl to try and make them look bad for no reason other than they have the same f/os or gets more attention. ive seen ppl throw away years long friendships over Nothing, over fictional characters, without even saying a word to them because god forbid we care abt friendships in this community. ive had ppl say they want to be my friend and then only come to me to talk abt their ships, never once letting me share anything, and then stop talking to me when they couldnt use me for attention anymore. ive had ppl come to me asking me to rb their stuff cuz "youre popular, i'll get more views". ive had ppl ask me to rb their stuff SPECIFICALLY in hopes that someone they didnt like/had the same f/o as them saw it and it would upset them. why would you ever ask people to do that. yes im not making that up and no i did not do it, but i was still somehow the bad guy for telling that person it was a messed up thing to ask me to do.

idk maybe thats why the community is "failing". or maybe im just a crabby old man who knows i dont know and i dont care im gonna go draw my goat from detroit again

Okay, this time I'm gonna talk about Jargen (pronounced "yargen"), the dragon ranger from when I played Quest. I honestly think about him all the time - he's one of the few characters I've drawn actual art of (I drew our whole party from that campaign lol)

Quest is one of my favorite ttrpg systems - it's free and open source, pretty loosey-goosey with the rules, character classes are "roles" and are focused on the role you play in the party as a whole, the skill trees are really unique and fun, and it's great for telling a good story in a very collaborative way.

Jargen was a ranger (link goes to the official role description lol). He's a wandering poet of few words - other than when performing his epic tales or giving dramatic, rousing speeches - with dreams of overcoming the image of a monster and becoming a hero of the people who would live on forever in song, and with a terrible fear of becoming the monster everyone believed him to be. His skills were focused on storytelling and wilderness survival.

Our party was a group of freelancers who all accepted the same job regarding helping a woman find her sister. There was a human doctor in the group, Feign, and he and Jargen became close friends very quickly and shared a number of fun dramatic bonding experiences including but not limited to failing to kill a mouse and nearly dying for each other.

What follows is a rather dramatized version of certain events as recalled by Jargen when turning the experience into an epic poem:

When I say Jargen and Feign were close friends, I do of course mean they shared an impossible to describe warriors' bond of drift-compatible entwined souls that only grew stronger with every new bonding experience.

One of the earliest of these was the very first evening of their adventure, while Jargen was mourning the loss of an animal companion. The party was camped in some very old woods, and he took first watch so he could take some time to himself. Instead of letting him be alone, Feign sat with him and opined on death from the perspective of a physician with an innate connection to the dead and dying, a long career of going wherever he was needed most bringing back the living from the cusp of death and guiding the dead across the final threshold in peace. He shared with Jargen his deep fear of undeath, and Jargen in turn shared his fear of being seen as a monster.

While they were talking, Feign mentioned that places like this, these deep woods and ancient trees, were actually full of death, despite how very alive they are. He then touched Jargen's hand and gave him a glimpse of the world as he saw it, leading to Jargen having a sudden and overwhelming experience of seeing hundreds of spirits of creatures large and small, animal and sentient, and even spoke with the ghost of a child. It was enlightening and comforting and terrifying. After this, Jargen and Feign became inseparable.

When Jargen was overcome with rage and prepared to trap dozens of people in a building and burn it to the ground rather than risk letting single vampire - the monstrous perversions of life that they are - escape, it was Feign who talked him down and instead devised a plan to help the living flee.

When Feign was bitten by a vampire and knew he had limited time to find a cure before the infection set in, it was Jargen who offered his own blood to sustain him. (Ultimately, though, Jargen agreed to Feign's request to put him down the moment he passed the point of no return so that he wouldn't have to suffer his greatest fear of becoming undead.)

There did, of course, come a time when they walked the line of near tragedy and each sacrificed themself for the other, both nearly dying in the process. I wrote a dramatized version here, but I can do one better this time!

One of the features of Quest is that you're supposed to write a summary of each session from your character's perspective - Jargen's were, of course, composed in verse. Here is a very brief portion of what he wrote in the aftermath of that near-tragedy:

Steel glinted, cold and bloodstained red held in the villain's hand When from the dark he lunged again, a killing blow to land But Jargen’s feet were faster far, And to Feign’s side he flew To take the brunt of the attack Though the grave cost he knew “Flee now, my friend,” the dragon said, As Feign looked on in fear “I beg of you to trust me now - Your path must not end here.”

(I said he was a poet, but I didn't say he was a *good* poet)

I unfortunately can't share the whole thing because it's not finished and also it's very long, but that's a tiny fraction for your enjoyment lmao

jk jk sorry dude im not sure what you mean like, advice for the game in general? ive never played ctl so i guess all i can offer is what ive heard and read?

ok so, play the most recent version of the game (2e i think its called) because its better, but also take it with a grain of salt. everyone ive heard from so far improvises on the game and makes homebrews, and theres so much creative room in this game that its perfect for exploring what the fuck ever you like in a ttrpg.

its even the kind of game you could just spend time making shit up for yourself if you dont want to/cant play it, as ive been doing.

like i said ive never played so idk about the finer mechanics of gameplay and whats balanced and whats not, but when it comes to character creation i REALLY encourage you to dig into ur imagination and bring out a magic creature you wanna be or youd wanna make an oc out of

what kinda changeling do you wanna be/play as? what made your character that way? what do they do after they escape Arcadia?

check out seemings/kiths/courts and then mess that dude UP, give them sick powers and weaknesses

you can be kithless lmao, some people are just too nebulous to categorize

the courts all have a different emotion for how they deal with being a changeling. you dont have to pick a court, but if u do id say to ask your character what being in that court means to them.

oh also if youre making up a Fae, try to make it as fucked up and cool as possible. theyre so weird and monstrous at times. i just picked my changelings keeper from the ones already made (because hes awful in a great way) but i think itd be cool if more people made their own?

ppl have explained this better than me, but the thing that changelings have that fae will almost never have is the support of other changelings. fae are so concerned with themselves they cant understand banding together to live like changelings do (which makes them still human). so i wanna say keep in mind that the best weapon changelings have against fae is ironically the power of bonds (motleys, freeholds, and courts) this is the heart of the game imo.

quickly doodled em but these are spencer & jonah sweet !! frm my silly 1920s witch hunters universe … i have their entire story planned and all the other things abt their world (my expansive lore doc) and the expanded cast but … my children-of-immigrants-american-dream-orphaned siblings who hunt witches but also have a very touchy distant relationship to each other … beloveds or whatever i love writing sibling stories

i could talk abt this oc universe FOREVER it’s set in 1920s america where rise of consumerism/capitalism/literal oil drilling/fanaticism and crime spikes have opened up magic leaking leylines and have made mankind susceptible to being possessed by “witches” representing the seven sins… and hunters are people who are attuned to the leylines either becuz they’re previous victims of coven behavior or just magic too stronk… smth smth.

i’ve been playing w them much longer than tinder and have so many plots and stories to share but i never know how to do it 😭 lately been thinking of multimedia project w audio/prose/comic parts and the system is also very easy to turn into a ttrpg since i got my friends to rp in the universe ages ago LOL….

OMG hehe that’s a good question!! Honestly though, most of them don’t have much of a story…? my ocs are honestly mostly just Some Guys. i do sort of have ideas for like, character arcs they’d go through, or like… backstories, or things that would happen to them. A good example would be like, how Basil got all his scars. I’ve thought of how he got them, bc he’s a big dummy who gets injured a lot when he’s trying to be cool.

I also like thinking a lot abt their relationships with each other, and how they would evolve and grow and stuff. Like another example, Fletcher and Basil’s relationship with their boss Ollie, or Basil’s relationship with his family (which is complicated). That sort of thing.

But, I think what Fletcher, Dandai, and Church have going on is the most concrete idea of a story I have. It basically revolves around all of them dealing with their connections to the paranormal. Fletcher has his curse where he can see ghosts and shit, Dandai… I’m still working on the logistics but basically Dandai is from a different dimension haha. Usually I’m not a fan of that kind of thing but it came abt bc originally they were from a ttrpg, and I thought it would be cool to try and make that part of their actual backstory even though they wouldn’t be in that world anymore. And Church is half demon, which usually isn’t a big deal since most people don’t even believe in demons, but that can definitely make things weird lol

Another thing abt Fletcher, kinda combining both ideas, would be his friendship w these ghost friends he has, and how that kinda messes with his mental health in terms of only spending time w dead people and being a bit of a recluse

I’m not sure who’s POV that would be from, if I were to ever write it, but Verin KJ and Basil’s friend group would be a part of it for sure.

And YEA HEHE abt aquariums like. I wanna work at an aquarium too so bad, which is why Delta and a lot of other OCs work at one. Delta, Holly, Blue, Kazz, Sushi, and Seabury all work at the aquarium and have different jobs there ehehe

i don't think i ever talked abt my demon gang so it's time to chance that!

a disclaimer: when i made them i kinda just threw hell and demon rules and all that in a blender and made everything up on my own bc this is just how i like to do things with demons tbh. so don't expect any biblical or religious accuracy lol. also for some reason i decided they all have 1 a human form 2 a demonic form 3 a special power (to help with whatever job they have in hell) so I'm gonna list those, mostly. also i made them when i was like 16 idk why they're like this but I'm not gonna retcon anything bc it's cool

also ofc it got long lol so under the cut it goes

going from least detailed to most, starting with xylon

their special power is just putting souls to sleep, to calm them down if they get too rowdy or stressed abt being in hell basically

their demonic form is a bit like a ghost? like, greyish-white and semi transparent, face is just eye holes and an unmoving mouth. they kinda look like a skeleton with some see through grey skin

their human form is long, curly brown hair and a goatee. they usually wear hoodies and sweatpants and they never talk

that's most of their deal really. never talk, good at calming people down, prefer to be alone

next up is aqua

she's a guard at the gates of hell along with her brother whom i will get to soon

her special ability is water manipulation. on earth she just really likes vibing in bodies of water and taking baths

speaking of earth, her human form is long, straight, black hair that nearly looks blue. blue eyes, dark skin, likes to wear fancy clothes like suits and ties and mostly in a blue palette lol

her demonic form is a buff humanoid body, but her face is covered with eyes and no other facial features. when she talks you kinda just hear it inside your brain, and despite not having visible ears she still hears you if you talk to her

next is my beloved isabelle whom i kinda became obsessed with in the last year+- bc i wrote a short bit where she talks to another one of my ocs and she was just. so fun to write that i added her as an npc in my ttrpg campaign (with some tweaking ofc) and she's even more fun to roleplay i love her

her special power is apparently controlling people's thoughts. i kinda forgot abt that part I'm surprised by checking my own notes tbh. her job is basically to be a whore, to keep souls calm and busy so they don't get rowdy

her demonic form is a humanoid body with no actual features except for mouths all over. each mouth has sharp silver teeth

her human form is hot bc i said so. long straight blond hair and eyes as silver as her demonic teeth. she still has sharp fangs but her teeth in that form are white lol (and she only has one mouth ofc)

ok and now is the main bastard. he started as a drawing and became a character and then i created all the rest after him. i also mixed him up with another oc i have bc why not yknow. his name is seth

he's aqua's brother, the one guarding the gates with her

his power is pyrokinesis bc it's hot (in more ways than one. ha)

his human form is just a tumblr sexyman honestly. white twink who wears suits. black and red color palette. he's got short spiky black hair and red eyes and he drinks blood sometimes. idk why i added that detail i think i just found it sexy back then (still do)

his demonic form is that of a four legged beast made of green and blue fire. he's got no features, just fire really, and he talks the same way aqua does

he's also dating isabelle in an open relationship but well, i mentioned i mixed him up with another oc, and that's my boy minho who's really just an ordinary human

basically seth really likes going up on earth to seduce humans. no one ever tells him no, up until minho came along - they had a one night stand and seth wanted more but minho rejected him bc he wasn't interested in anything beyond that like the aro icon he is. and that only made seth go even more 👀 over him bc "wow. that's the first human i didn't manage to work my charm on. he must be special" and kinda fell for him

and while minho doesn't return the same feelings he does like the attention and the feeling of a chase they got there and yeah it's not the healthiest relationship lol but it's sexy

this is also the source of the scene i mentioned writing isabelle in! she has A Talk with minho where she basically says "please be careful of my boyfriend he's more dangerous than you think" before minho finds out seth is a demon hehe.

Any ttrpgs (including/especially yours!) that you recommend to get the oc wheels turnin’? Or especially fun as oc design tools/inspiration?

as an overall recommendation for this, from the perspective of design tools, solo journaling games are often excellent for this -- you can browse the entire solo tag for the physical games category on itch and find TONS!!

moving on to specific recs: not for characters specifically, but for general worldbuilding one of mine i can recommend is lamplighter's festival! it's about building up the history and culture of a location by developing a ritual or holiday that's celebrated there, and i think sometimes creating a location with a lot of intention and thought will of course naturally get you thinking abt the ppl who live there. (i think this is also a great gm tool if you want to bring your party somewhere special!)

divined journey is a game about outlining a character's story in detail using tarot cards -- i've had a lot of fun using this to flesh out existing characters and imagine plot arcs that are different than the ones i'd come up with on my own, but i think it could absolutely start u running on a brand new character too. often the order ppl go in is make the character, THEN put them in a story, but forming a character BY putting them through the story (i.e. keeping them more malleable and considering events the primary development vs "backstory") can be extremely cool

on the more... i don't wanna say "traditional" but like, "narrative tabletop games as we know them" (vs solo journaling stuff/things that lean towards being design tools):

time to drop is a game about pulling one last heist (again and again and again, in a timeloop). i often find that games with a really specific premise/setting kickstart tons of fresh thought; as much as i love just doing the exact tropes i already like ad nauseum (being completely genuine there), restrictions and a narrowed focus are GREAT for getting the brain churning. and trapping a bunch of criminals in a time loop is a great way to develop necessarily juicy oc dynamics :3c

sapphicworld is a game that has gotten me SUPER revved about ocs (up to the point where i once planned out a 12 course formal dinner menu for a campaign finale.....). it's still in development, but you can get a pwyw glimpse at the ashcan here (kind of like a tasting platter of the style and mechanics of the game, which the dev describes as a dream about sapphicworld), and get access to the entire wip game on the darling demon patreon for five bucks. it's worth a billion times that. i love sapphicworld lol

in general i think games that have playbooks and picklists always get me going, for that same "narrowed focus" reason... at first ur urge might be to push outside the picklists, bc u have a different idea or none of the stuff on the list exactly matches what u had in mind for the character, but forcing urself to adhere and then branching out from that is something that i think creates a lot of really fun combinations. for this reason i think that a lot of PBTA stuff fits the bill -- i realize that doesn't narrow things down at all lol but it DOES mean u can browse the pbta tag and then just snag anything that seems to have a setting/tone that you're in the mood for!

i feel like this is a woefully small selection but it's all i have time for today, and ttrpgs are just so broad....! i would love if ppl gave more suggestions in the reblogs + replies!!!
