While Vanny, the reluctant follower and least favorite, is surprisingly happy about the defeat and learning what freedom is for the first time- GGY, the favorite child, feels like he failed Glitchtrap for being so weak that his host could break free and kill him, while GGY was completely unaware and unable to do anything about it.

This isn't villain or redemption GGY/Vanny, they could both go either way from here, it's just how I think their first reactions to the wizard dying would go<3

Also the tree on GGYs side is supposed to be the baobab tree from TFTPP, and Vanny's side is based on the PQ/Burntrap/Brazil endings<3

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT

alright so i already established here who his parents are. let me get my character study notes and fill in some blanks for you!

calem’s father is still doing tournaments, that’s why he’s in snowbelle city and not at home when calem sets out on his journey

once calem does leave the nest his mom is quick to follow, she became a stay at home mom so calem had someone to take care of him but she never actually wanted to stop traveling. so the second she can she sets out to snowbelle to be with her husband

calem’s mom and dad met as rivals who ended up falling for each other

taking inspiration from X’s absent parents in the manga, calem’s parents aren’t exactly perfect. specifically his mom-

his mother is more a mentor than a mom, she’s the teaching force keeping him on a path of fighting to get stronger, but she lacks a sense of motherly love that makes calem as stoic as he is. he doesn’t come from a very affectionate family making vulnerability a foreign concept to him.

his father is a lot more loving but not around much due to never putting his dream on hold. he’s missed a lot of important events in calem’s life, like calem getting his starter pokemon; but ultimately his dad still loves his son and will talk your ear off about how proud he is of his son.

because of his parents competitive nature calem never learned it was okay to lose. which means it’s serena who shows him that, even if it takes a while for him to understand.

calem is a mama’s boy, he thinks the world of his mother which is rather sad from an outsider’s view when she’s clearly a bit detached emotionally. he has a very deep rooted respect for women in the competitive world like serena, like korrina, like diantha, because of his mom.

but he will probably cry if you show him basic parental affection.

I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.

I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.

If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.

also worth noting that "abusive" doesn't actually mean "irredeemable" either.

there's a lot of people that have done things in the past that were bad, because they weren't taught any better, or they were in an overall toxic situation where EVERYONE was shitty (like a cult), or they were just at an especially low point and hurt others for it.

you don't have to forgive them. you don't have to ever speak to them again. you can be angry with them until you die if you want.

but society cannot function if we don't allow them to move on. to change their behavior and fuck off somewhere else and build meaningful relationships without bothering you again. we need a path for people to change, or nothing ever will.
