a scene-by-scene playlist for macbeth--one song for each scene. you know the drill by now. track list with rationale under the cut; special thanks to @blackcatarts for help with the selection :3 happy halloween season, y'all.
track list + rationale
act one
1.1 (the witches enter) - Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Lorde Cover) (feels self-explanatory, plus the vibe of it feels like panning in over a foggy battlefield)
1.2 (duncan finds out macbeth slayed) - Aneurysm by Nirvana (found this one on this macbeth playlist a while back and it has remained a macbeth song to me forever and ever; the manic energy fits the battlefield fervor here)
1.3 (macbeth and banquo meet the witches) - They by Jem (“and it’s ironic too // ‘cause what we tend to do // is act on what they say // and then it is that way… who are they? where are they? how can they possibly know all this?”)
1.4 (duncan names malcolm his successor) - Money Money Money by ABBA (he’s plotting! he’s planning! stars, hide your fires! look just trust me on this one)
1.5 (lady macbeth reads the letter & reunites with macbeth) - She’s Kerosene by the Interrupters (every lyric of this song is about lady macbeth.)
1.6 (lady macbeth welcomes duncan to her castle) - Silver Platters by Les Gold (“no need to be cordial // you could be immortal // if you take the risk // could you take the risk?” + “step out on the dance floor // this is what you asked for // such a pretty face // what was it underneath the mask for?”)
1.7 (the macbeths argue) - Fight For Me by AlicebanD (macbeths song of all time!!!)
act two
2.1 (dagger scene) - Disturbia by Rihanna (the supernatural begins to bleed into the world! will someone please direct a macbeth where this comes on during this scene)
2.2 (post-murder argument) - Prowl Great Cain by The Mountain Goats (very macbeth song. placed here for “and i feel guilty, but i can’t feel ashamed!” & mention of sleepwalking & betrayal & prowling [cf. his line about tarquin in 2.1])
2.3 (porter scene, duncan’s death comes out) - Daniel in the Den by Bastille (“felled in the night by the ones you think you love // they will come for you” + “and for every king that died // they would crown another”)
2.4 (hey. don’t cry. duncan’s horses ate each other) - When He Died by Lemon Demon (literally a song about the world getting fucked up after a guy dies what can i say)
act three
3.1 (banquo gets suspicious) - Aha! by Imogen Heap (entire song about people pretending to be better than they are, including an actual serial killer. + “cost you to keep me quiet” with banquo…)
3.2 (the macbeths are fracturing) - The Horror of Our Love by Ludo (EXTREMELY MACBETHS SONG. here because this is the scene where they start to switch places, with him the one buying into violence as the answer & telling her not to worry about gory details)
3.3 (banquodeath) - Bury A Friend by Billie Eilish (rdj meme voice: he has murdered his friend)
3.4 (banquet scene) - Bird Song by Florence + the Machine (song about killing the witness and then being haunted by that witness and completely losing your shit trying to shut their ghost up…)
3.5 (hecate) - Hecate by Wendy Rule (i don’t give a shit about this scene i’m sorry. interpolation boooooo)
3.6 (lennox talks politics) - Dark Doo Wop by MS MR (foggy apocalyptic ones. “it’s all gone to shit // it’s out of our hands”)
act four
4.1 (double double toil & trouble) - Hot Knife by Fiona Apple (i’m a hot knife i’mmmm a hot knife i’m a hot knife he’s a pat of butter… you’re just gonna have to trust me on this one. my school’s macbeth had heavy drumming all through this scene and it’s associated with this song to me forever)
4.2 (macduff’s family is murdered) - Pretty Little Things by the Crane Wives (songs about pretty/fragile things being destroyed because of men’s betrayal… thinking about how lady macduff blames her husband for abandoning her to the wolves :( )
4.3 (malcolm and macduff) - All or Nothing by the Dream Masons (songs that are about both malcolm and macduff. the first verse especially is very malcolm, as a young prince stranded among enemies; the chorus is especially macduff-deciding-to-kill-macbeth-or-die-trying)
act five
5.1 (lady macbeth sleepwalks) - Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song) by Fiona Apple (LADY MACBETH GUILT SONG! “those boon times went bust // my feet of clay, they dried to dust // the red isn’t the red we painted, it’s just rust” w her imaginary bloodstains, + “i’m either so sick in the head i need to be bled dry to quit // or i just really used to love him // i sure hope that’s it”)
5.2 (the scots and english gather) - Marked Man by Mieka Pauley (songs i considered for 4.3 as well. they are coming to Get His Ass)
5.3 (macbeth preparing to fight) - For the Departed by Shayfer James (songs about knowing you’re about to get got but what does it matter when you’re already damned)
5.4 (the fucking wood is moving guys) - Kingdom Fall by Claire Wyndham (songs i almost put on the prior scene, for “i’d rather watch my kingdom fall // i want it all or not at all,” but eventually i placed it here because… well, we are watching the kingdom fall, my guy)
5.5 (tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow) - Drowning in the Sound by Amanda Palmer (okay, this is kind of because of “sound and fury,” but also it’s soooo macbeth act 5. “and the body is a temple but the temple is a prison and the prison’s overcrowded and the inmates know it’s flooded and the body politic is getting sicker by the second” + “do you ever feel like this should be officially the end? // and that you should be the one to do the ending, but you can’t?” + the inevitability…)
5.6 (scots + english arrive) - Lion’s Teeth by the Mountain Goats (song about trying to kill a powerful and tyrannical figure. also sounds like a fight scene)
5.7 (macduff and macbeth come face to face) - Bury Me Face Down by grandson (so obsessed with how firmly this guy would rather go down fighting than do literally anything easier)
5.8 (macbeth’s head presented, malcolm crowned) - King of the World by WAR*HALL (a new king is crowned after one dies by violence. fleance is still out there somewhere. the cycle of violence continues. this one doesn’t work unless you imagine the witches watching pityingly/sinisterly in the background)

Funny stuff i often think about in my rewrite of shrek the third
There's a character named Walter Crumpet who is a medieval version of Walter Cronkite, he's known as the most trusted man in far far away
Bruce and charming holding auditions for an execution as if it they're doing a performance
Shrek loses his fear of fatherhood but gains a new one: geese
"In a once in a lifetime move science and magic works together to take down religion!"
One of the contestants at the aforementioned audition is a rendition of lady gaga's bloody mary sung by the actual legend herself (no seriously she climbs out of a mirror to sing the chorus)
Sleeping Beauty dates the Sandman (no not that one, not THAT one either)
Gwynn's full name is Gwenhwyfar but she calls herself Gwynn due to a lot of women having the same name
Rhodanthe's only other friend is Ophelia of Hamlet fame; they met after Rho catches Ophelia floating around in her fishing pond
Rhodanthe working at the medieval equivalent to Claire's except its called Faire's.
John Delaney voices Lancelot - no wait that's actually canon lol
In this version Harold doesn't die but experiencing a frog life's crisis he also requested the song to play at his funeral much to Lillian's duress
Artie's sword comes in the form of a pen
The soundtrack includes everything from current hits to 80s rock to royalty free music to royalty music to video game OSTs.
One scrapped ending was Artie ultimately rejecting his claim in favor of becoming a writer. Get it? king AUTHOR
Handheld mirrors double as cellphones so there's psa on not being on your mirror while you ride your horse
Nimue is Merlin's ex wife and living her best life in the enchanted forest as a hippie
The scene where Gwynn is getting the Movie Makeover with the Evil Queen being her stylist and she asks which lipstick flavor Gwynn prefers, and Gwynn throws out randomly "lightning in a bottle" and the evil queen shows an actual lipstick shade
Doris knows the exact brand of Chapstick Charming uses much to everyone's disgust
The aforementioned lightning in a bottle shocks your lip to a glossy shade and you're not allowed to eat drink or kiss anything for 30 min
During the villain attack Walter Crumpet interviews one of them as it happens as calmly and plainly like a regular interview instead of villains busting up the place
Said interview ends with the villain making a shoutout to Gwynn Who sees the whole event back at the Poison apple, looking absolutely mortified
Charming's dad name isn't anything fancy or glorious like Brutimus or Bruciel. It's just Bruce. And charming treats it as the most metal thing ever
Broken mirrors often sound like static so you have to physically move the mirror like you would an antenna
Shrek immediately rejecting "Shrek Jr." As a name suggestion.
Rho gets asked if she ever tried out for Quadball (Quidditch)
The axe Charming got in his medieval meals turns out to be a chekovs gun
Gwynn's favorite Chapstick flavor is bubblegum
Artie has a secret stash of "Maidens" magazines obviously a play on Playboy
Gwynn attempts to teach Charming how to be a real king by replicating a sequence from Aardman's Next
Rho continually refers to Shrek as the Green Knight much to his insistence that he isn't
Fiona meets Igraine's ghost and admits that's the least weirdest thing she's ever seen
Godmother REALLY got around in her younger years
Just the fact Godmother isn't a witch she just appropriated some of their customs for her business, such as with capitalism
Merlin showing shrek and co. his entire Arsenal of magic Matrix-style complete with the iconic black suits
Artie's favorite band is the Bremen Town Musicians and yes they are farm animals
The Bremen Town Musicians also play along the opening theme of the story
Just the opening theme being another Joan Jett song (I Love Rock and Roll)
Far Far Away's waffle house being the only place tho stays open even during the occupation
Charming tries to intimidate shrek's friends like in the canon movie but he gets ficking roasted instead. It's so bad the other villains sneak in a laugh
Gwynn taking Charming out for a night in the town to show him real adult fun which results in a bar fight, drag carriage race, and egging mansions
Charming accidentally breaks the window of said mansion because he confused a small rock with an egg
Walter Crumpet storms out of mansion with a boomboom stick as gwynn and charming run off
Bruce is played by none other than Ash Williams himself. He even says groovy at some point.
Sir Cumference is the same species as Humpy Dumpty
Charming'd first rule as king is free cherry Chapstick
The princesses are a precure style sentai team complete with sparkly transformation sequences and cheesy attack phrases
Every time Charming and Artie shares the same scene someone mentions how much they look alike
The bad wolf after seeing red riding hood: "oh no not this bitch"
The single most important reason behind Rhodanthe's name: so that every time someone greets her they start singing the row row row your boat song
The villains argue whether to eat the three little pigs due to the moral implications of eating animals with clear human sapience and intelligence
Gwynn and Charming fight each other with swords in a subtle allegory for hate sex while the other villains cheer them on
The fight gets featured on Ye Olde Worlde Star (yes it exists in the shrek universe)
A scrapped subplot the ones where the triplets are born early, one of them (Felicia) gets left behind and Gwynn ends up taking care of her. She absolutely squees at the sight bc ogre or not that's still a baby and the cutest thing EVER
The message of the movie is "white men really do ruin everything"
Despite being one of the most powerful magicians ever Merlin can't figure out how it's possible for a donkey and a dragon to have kids
The villains having beef with a frog
Charming finds out Fiona may possibly be his cousin and leaves which is immediately followed by the sound of him vomiting in the trash can. Poor bastard
Bruce referring to himself as a manly badass hero
Friar's Bot having to drop the Fat part due to being deemed offensive
"Nine thousand channels and nothing to watch!" Bruce grumbled while flipping through the crystal ball
Frat Boy Snow White
Rho leading an army of swans against the villains like a WW2 aerial crusade
Cinderella sanitizing everything she uses and uses a leech as a vacuum cleaner
Every scene Bruce has a different woman on his shoulder absolute CHAD
Punch and Judy is a action figure called Punchin' Judy that Gwynn still owns it is a marionette with boxing gloves that can say dozens of different phrases
I kept the fight scene where Hook plays the piano the whole time cuz it's simply too good to leave out with the added bonus of EVERYONE singing
Famous celebs includes Katy Fairy, Sir Tom, Janet Jacksondottir, Pinke, and Zendaya. Yep her name still the same.
At the end where everything is over and charming and gwynn do their anguished love announcement and kiss and it's a cute scene but then they REALLY get into the kiss much to everyone's annoyance. Shrek forcefully breaks them apart.
The monster trees uses wood furniture
Charming having no real plan after takin the throne bc he didn't think he even get this far

I wouldn't say I had Crazy Mad Advice but i will chime in on interview advice bc im autistic too and i usually do ok!!! Maybe have some good knowledge abt the radio station and their recent work or the community they serve?? Dont force yourself to smile or change your voice i would say?? Be Yourself sounds so dumb but feel empowered to allow your passion to shine through autistically . They will almost definitely meet your energy and feel rlly excited by you!!! You're so well suited, remember that and you will do amazing. Seriously manifesting this for you darling!! Good luck <3333
the lady i initially spoke to about this position was so kind and seemed really interested in my experience and skills so im hoping that the other person im interviewing with will be just the same !! however, i think it's a phone interview instead on something in-person and i hope it won't throw me off bc i won't be able to mirror any kind of body language. im also interviewing with a man instead of a woman (which is okay) but it definitely feels more intimidating.... but thank you so much henry !! <33
here's your little playlist: "king" - florence and the machine "waltz (better than fine)" - fiona apple "it'll all work out" - phoebe bridgers "tiniest lights" - angel olsen "peace of mind" - the killers

@sallycinnamons hehe okay. sorry this took forever I was like ‘ok if I post it I have to make double extra sure I’m satisfied with every song on there’ (special shout out to “Every Night” by THEE Paul McCartney, which I adore but decided was not right. It’s the only one I culled)
anyway HERE is a link to this playlist and below is a bit about why each song is on here or what gains the song entry to this playlist. Basically the organizing question is what does Love sound like to me, Mimi [REDACTED]? Like many great playlists it started as an informal shortlist in my head and I decided I really did want to keep track of them. You’ll notice maybe like I did after making the playlist that a lot of them are about someone you want to listen to or want to listen to you more than anything. clearly that’s the height of romance to me...
its not in any particular order, just how I added it.
1. “Jesus, Etc.” - Wilco - “I’ll be around / You were right about the stars”
2. “Only for You” - Heartless Bastards - first song I ever felt sounded like love to me, would have been first song if I had not been actively listening to Wilco when I decided to pull the trigger
3. “The Book I Read” - Talking Heads - “I’m embarrassed to admit it hit the soft spot it in my heart when / I found out you wrote the book I read”
4. “Ask Me Why” - The Beatles - “I love you / ‘Cause you tell me things I want to know” also John’s cold voice sounds like hes cryinnnnggggg :)
5. “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” - Talking Heads - as I mentioned earlier, often considered The love song in a catalogue characteristically devoid of them. Can’t pull out a lyric, all of them fit
6. “Ladies” - Fiona Apple - “Nobody can replace / anybody else / so it would be a shame to make it a competition”
7. “I Want You To Love Me” - Fiona Apple - Hey Guy Have You Heard This Song.
8. “Village Green” - The Kinks - ok this one is more getting at the fact that you can love a place so much, and also I always love how he goes back and sits with Daisy even though she’s married to the grocer. sometimes when you go to college out of state you form strong emotional connections with village pastorals okay?
9. “If I Needed Someone” - The Beatles - kind of incredibly blasé for a love song but thats why I love it I think?? It’s saying listen I don’t actually need anyone else but. If i did it would be you..
10. “Sugar on My Tongue” - Talking Heads - YAYYYYYYY BEING ALIVE IN A BODY AND HORNY FOR ANOTHER HUMANBEING IS BEAUTIFUL YAYYYYY LETS ALL HOLD HANDS
11. “Tim I Wish You Were Born a Girl” - Of Montreal - a repression enjoyer classic but its on here because he literally loves tim more than he knows how to think about. ok wow
12. “Concerto for Philodendron & Pothos” - Mort Garson - I have dreams about trying to orchestrate this one day and I’m giving the synth around :45 to a lone trumpet. That’s Love
13. “Nothing But Mine” - Billie Marten - “Be my friend / there is no other way to say it”
14. “Slide Away” - Oasis - “I dream of you / and all the things you said” & “Let me be the one to shine with you” & “We talk of growing old” NEED I GO ON? This one very recently has become an instant cry in the first ten seconds kind of song, which is nice. It deserves it
15. “Don’t Let Me Down” - The Beatles and Billy Prescott who is really quite crucial here - best John vocal of all time. Sorry. Don’t let me down please don’t let me down. Don’t let me down........
16. “Live Forever” - Oasis - “Maybe you’re the same as me / We see things they’ll never see” - man. man. man. man. man. yeah
17. “People Take Pictures of Each Other” - The Kinks - “People take pictures of each other / just to prove that they really existed”
18. “Village Green Preservation Society” - The Kinks - “Aren’t they the same thing? Love and attention?”
ok yay this was fun. If I ever add more songs I might come back to this post I really enjoy annotated lists

🎵for the music ask thing! 💗
okay here goes….
The Ballad - Blur - I just looked into my life
Don’t Sit Down Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair - Arctic Monkeys - Break a mirror, roll the dice
The Age of the Understatement - TLSP - Decided to sneak off away from your stomach
Ladies - Fiona Apple - Ruminations on the looming effect
Doctor Robert - The Beatles - Ring my friend, I said you’d call
(okay this was from my shuffled 120hr playlist so statistically the fact that both am and tlsp made it…)
also completely unintentional but like everything I do, it’s very milexy so be warned (and yes I did come up with the title after I realised this)
The Riddler
I thought you ought to have told me when you
Decided to sneak off away from your stomach
And leave your heart behind
So I could’ve sheltered it for you
At least until you come back.
Its weight has left
Ruminations on the looming effect
Of your absence
It’s like a silent enigma
Or a shadow-eyed figure
Where it lacks words, it makes up for it in
Gravity.
Ring, my friend, I said you’d call
And you must know how hard I’m trying
To iron myself out
I would’ve got up to hear your voice
Even if I were dying.
To soothe the ache, I’ll
Break a mirror, roll the dice
And if I get lucky
You’ll give me a hint
The phantom pain is just a
By-product of waiting, you know.
But I finally solved your riddle, friend.
You thought you could outwit me
I just looked into my life
And found you hiding there all along.

The Beauty In Suffering by Spiritbox: I would put this at a solid 8/10 on first listen! I easily see it being something I go back to ^w^ It's dark and emotional, and I'm a sucker for screamy vocals lol
"you find the strength in the reverie this is the beauty of suffering" White House Road(OurVinyl sessions version) by Tyler Childers: People dunk on country a lot, but it can be a great genre, especially with singers like this! He's got a rather soulful voice, solid 7.5/10!
When they lay me in the cold hard clay Singing them hymns while the banjo plays Tell those ladies that they ought not frown Cause there ain't been nothing ever held me down Twin Sized Mattress by The Front Bottoms: I haven't heard anyone talk about The Front Bottoms in a very long time, but I do really like this song... I tend to be critical of 'flat' vocals, but it fits this song better than I expected. It definitely did not make me cry, 8/10 but in a different way
With tears in my eyes, I begged you to stay You said, "Hey, man, I love you, but no fucking way" Marble Cake by Aesop Rock: The tonal whiplash is crazy. 9/10 His voice is crazy good I had to listen to this with intermissions, like a 3 act play, based on the way the lyrics are structured in the descripton of the video. Every other line outdoes the ones before it, so I narrowed it to these:
I don’t feel a social pull to show the wolves where grandma lives, I find deliverance from evil either in a sedentary binge, or spring interning with the cemetery winds
it’s tit for tat with slippery aristocrats who pity cops, and brilliant rats who find the grit to slip out of the Skinner box, the moat’s supposed to keep the rivals out, the calls are coming from inside the house Fast As You Can (Elsinore Cover ft Kayla Brown) by Fiona Apple: I hope it's the one from the Hi-Fi Rush OST because thats the one I saw the most! It's pretty bouncy, I definitely get the interest; and yet, maybe it's just because of the other songs on here, I'm putting this one at about a 5? I think if I get back to it when I'm looking for something dancey it'll grow on me!
Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift But most of the time, it does And I get to the place where I'm begging for a lift Or I'll drown in the wonders and the was

Maestro Hiccups Part 10
"Fortie!!" Anjellica shouted, getting the small Pawn's attention. The tiny Negaboss looked down to see the two of them jumping up at him. "Oh, hello you two." He said. "Fortie! You need to grab that fruit and get off the tree!" Fiona yelled. Fortie glared at them "NEVER! I already had lost golden peaches, Bejeweled figs, And Diamonds apricots, I REFUSE to lose these!" He shouted. Anjellica looked down and saw the trunk of the tree turning to dust and ash. "Uh Fortie...the trunk is turning to dust right now and if you wanna save your royal butt, you'll grab the fruit and jump DOWN." She stated. Fortie gave her a dirty look. "HOW DARE YOU!! I'M ROYALTY AND YOU'RE NOT!! YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME, I AM THE BOSS OF YOU-" Once again, Fortie's tirade had been stopped when the tree vanished once more. Fiona groaned, the tree was gone once more, and so was the cure. "Hey, look on the bright side, if we're lucky, someone else will hear Fortie's big mouth, and convince him to get off the tree." Anjellica said. Fiona chuckled at Anjellica's quip, until the world began to violently shake. The two of them held on until the shaling stopped. "What was that?!" Fiona asked. "That, is the Maestros hiccups getting bigger, stronger and warping the fabric of the universe, both in and out of Wonderworld." Anjellica answered. Fiona turned pale "What do you mean In and out of Wonderworld?"
Meanwhile, back in the real world...
Martin would never think that the Cole Mansion would get this crowded with children, he and the other maids had taken it upon themselves to bring them in, as they were friends of Emma and her friends as well. But the child of the house was nowhere to he seen "Where could Lady Emma be?" He asked, bringing out some snacks to the kids "We're not sure Mr butler sir, We haven't seen her, Leo or their other friends all day!" Mason said, grabbing a cookie. "Well I hope their alright...And I wonder what happened with the sky." Isadore said, gazing outside of a window at the polka dotted sky. The entire town of Timeville had been off-put by the sudden spots in the sky. Martin had actually fainted on the spot at the polka dotted sky. And when he came too, he had been absolutely convinced that what he saw was a fever dream...too bad it was actually real. "Well, Maybe they went to find the cause of the spots?" Jasmine said, reaching for some lemonade. Martin looked back out of a window, trying to figure out WHY the sky had gained its spots in the first place, when a hand tapped his shoulder "Martin?" Maya's voice said, snapping him put of his thoughts Yes Ma...ya?" Martin asked, as his eyes widened. Maya's maid uniform was gone, and she was now in a pop idol's dress. "You might wanna see this sir..." she said, pointing down the stairs. When the butler did look down, he saw that the other maids had been wearing dresses that resembled Maya's. The kids that had taken refuge looked no better, they traded out their dancing clothes for baggy pants, tank top and golden chains, as if they were a gang of rappers. "Wha-?! How-?! WHAT HAPPENED?!" He shouted. "You changed too Martin." Maya said. The butler looked down at his clothes, and found that he looked more like manager than a butler now. As of now, the butler only had one thought in his mind...
"WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?!"
Meanwhile, With Fortie...
The Pawn Negati was holding the tree like a cat. Lights rushed past him as she screamed. The world around him moved at supersonic speed as he was thrown and tossed around every corner that came by him. Suddenly...he stopped. Fortie peeked open one eye and gazed around him, the dark and dreary goth world around him was gone. Instead, there were plush pillows and fluffy blankets everywhere. He gazed at the branch of the tree. The dying bark had become woven and quilted, and the fruit had changed from a ruby red apple to a bunch of of patchwork fabric pears...

Maya Donovan Drops Candid New Single “We Should Get Dinner”
Tumblr media
Rising singer-songwriter Maya Donovan has just released her latest single, “We Should Get Dinner.” The single perfectly captures the heart-wrenching experience of holding onto an unreciprocated relationship. Deeply relatable, “We Should Get Dinner” invites the listener to find safety within the lyrics. Maya Donavan possesses a unique aptitude for capturing the poignant and challenging moments of life within her music, providing an unwavering sense of authenticity, compassion, and wit. Donovan’s voice resonates with both power and precision, drawing you into her world of music and holding you captive there. “We Should Get Dinner” is now available to stream on all digital music platforms worldwide. With fearless honesty and self-aware vocals, “We Should Get Dinner” evokes raw emotion that will stop you in your tracks. Backed by rich vocal harmonies, Donovan’s light and alluring musical melody strikingly contrasts with her cutting lyrics. Her vocals are smooth and mesmerizing, with a tone that is reminiscent of genres such as jazz, folk, soul, and pop. The title, “We Should Get Dinner,” is as ironic as it is sincere. Moreover, it depicts the painful process of yearning for a fading relationship. “I wrote this song while watching a lot of my friendships change after graduating from college and moving back to Brooklyn, where I grew up. In our world of social media and cell phones, we are never more than a couple clicks away from communicating with each other, which creates a particular sting when you do end up losing touch with people you care about,” she reveals. Ultimately, the song builds to a sense of urgency, providing a clear climax in the story. Donovan shamelessly sings, “if you want me you know where I’ll be / I still want you if you would just want me.” Her lyrics leave the listener with a sense of comfort in their candid portrayal of such a familiar kind of heartache. Almost as early as Maya Donovan could talk, she was writing little tunes to express her innermost feelings. When she was 7, she began learning piano which gave her a faithful companion to fully realize the melodies that had floated in her head for years. The first song she wrote while accompanying herself on piano, at just 11 years old, discussed “ agonizing, unrequited love for a classmate.” Since her earliest days as a songwriter, Donovan has used the tumult of her internal world as a driving force for her music. Growing up in a family of esteemed creatives such as Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Vanessa Roth, and screenwriter Eric Roth, she developed a relentless love and enduring drive for her craft. Donovan went on to become a graduate of New York City’s reputable LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts, also known as the “Fame School.” Donovan has continued to masterfully utilize songwriting to chronicle her battles with anxiety and her constant re-discovery of herself through adolescence and young adulthood. While the vulnerable experiences she shares can carry heavy weight, she approaches them with genuine originality and subtle humor. To enjoy Maya Donovan’s charismatic presence live, you can find her as a resident artist at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, which has been graced by some of her biggest musical influences, such as Carole King, Billy Joel, and Lady Gaga. Additional inspiration for her art comes from fellow contemporary singer-songwriters such as Fiona Apple, Sara Bareilles, and Madison Cunningham. “We Should Get Dinner” gives listeners a safe space to acknowledge an unrequited love they are longing for and offers an empathetic yet uninhibited freedom in which to embrace thoughts and feelings that can be hard to say out loud. Her innate ability to express the nuances of the human experience sets Maya Donavan apart, cementing her place as a true talent to watch in the world of music. “We Should Get Dinner” is now available for streaming and download on all digital music platforms worldwide.
