Odessa knows the real reason why Beckett lingers when her shift draws to a close, and how, despite what it looks like, the walk home together is a rather straight forward practice. But the slightest smile remains at the corner of her lips when she thinks about his nature. How he's intrinsically tuned towards protection and safety. Odessa approaches Beckett with a small nod and smile, after waiting for his conversation to end with another, presuming it was serious. "Your day is good?" she asks once the other leaves, a lingering look to watch them before her eyes glide back to Beckett once more. "Was serious?" she also asks, head tilting as they begin their walk, but only for a few paces until Odessa seamlessly stops it by a hand on Beckett's arm. Using him for balance, she lifts a knee so she can adjust the strap of her shoe before they're walking again.

"Oh, I have something." the hand on his arm pats against it and then it retracts for Odessa to fetch her purse. "Here." she smiles, pulling out a plastic bag. "A rat stuck in trap today, I keep it for you." she shrugs a shoulder, offering out the bag that's now the animal's coffin of sorts. "You hold now." Odessa waves her other hand for him to carry it, already firmly shutting her purse. "I try to make it not er...разлагать...rot? I frozed it...by accident." she explains, lessons certainly helping her with the magic she never had much of a chance to finetune over the years but still go slightly array. "But, same thing."

Atlas was new to the community, fresh blood to the hunters, but it wasn't hard to pick up on the whispers if you listened closely enough. They thought they were entering a safe haven, a place where people had lived for years. Years. And the minute they walk through the door ( well, maybe not the minute they did, but practically ) someone had died and another had laid in the infirmary for who knew how long...

And it had all been planned?

Atlas had been pondering this as they walked down the pavement, having gotten up with the sun and enjoying a few moments of silence provided by the community. They were used to sleeping weird hours and short spurts. It has been a while now since they'd been behind safety of walls where they didn't have to worry about biters appearing around any corner.

Spotting another person up and about at this hour wasn't surprising, really; there seemed to be someone patrolling at all times, really, because that was how they kept this place safe. It was Calum who seemed to be the one stuck with the early shift this morning. Atlas cleared their throat, offering a half lazy wave. "You an early bird typically or just draw the short straw this morning?"

The chime of the bell above the door was almost entirely drowned out by the noise that filled the normally empty bookstore, and had Jonah remembered the event maybe there wouldn’t have been a puzzled expression when he saw the sight. Of course in reality, there weren’t that many people about, a mild number compared to the crowds that the aquarium drew on some days, but expecting a quiet store only to be met with people, had him slink to the back automatically after being told to wait by the owner. He was here to collect on a book, not swap it with something else, but not wanting to simply stand around, a browse around was the only viable option other than engage in conversation. But unfortunately, that seemed inevitable as bumped into someone behind him dropping a book he had pulled from the shelf to the floor, “Shitt... I’m sorry!” the exclaim came quick, “Are you okay?”

He’s pretty sure the sunblock his mom smeared over their (unwilling, unsuccessfully dodging) face has melted into his eyes. Mel squints, rubbing their pointer and thumb in pinching motions over closed lids to try and clear the sting from his dark brown doe-eyes. Summers in New York may have been too sweltering to handle, too hot, humid, sticky; yet, you’d think they’d prepped Mel to deal with another one of similar climates. Unfortunately for the mechanic, that isn’t the case.

Nor do they have a wardrobe befit such high humidity and temperatures. They’re currently sporting the loosest, thinnest garments he could find: A white sleeveless muscle tee with a skeleton within a cactus print sits atop a pair of ripped and frayed shorts. It still feels too stifling for comfort (not to mention how all of the exposed skin is making Mel feel jittery and self-conscious). Bring on the winter, he thinks, bitter and ever so sorry for themself.

When both mothers had shot their hands up into the air to volunteer for the first round of the sandcastle competition, Mel had taken the opportunity to dip. It’s been an hour and fifteen minutes of wandering and neither their mom nor mama has texted him, which means that they’ve either gotten distracted by something else or it's message received: Mel needs a breather.

He’s tying his frizz (fuckin’ humidity) up into a bun when he spots a familiar head of effortlessly voluminous hair. Eyes practically bulging, Mel jerks his hands about: They wipe their brow, their upper lip, the back of his neck— anywhere with am embarrassing sheen of intolerance to the heat.

“Hey,” Mel grunts, both hands wrapping around Beck’s wrist and forearm once they’ve reached him, “dude, help. I’m, like, dying.”

       THERE ALWAYS WAS AN odd twang that coated his tongue & settled at the back of his throat whenever he switched from the personal o2 tanks of an ev suit to the recycled oxygen aboard ship. it sent a glimmer  homesickness for the fresh air of home , open & filtered by natural means rather than machines , but it was a fleeting desire. for he had had to grow accustomed to life in space. even if the small things still cropped up out of the blue to strike at his buried longing for a change of scenery. 

       ALTHOUGH EASILY THOSE THOUGHTS we're dispelled with when he had a task set before him. which was easy enough to come by in a starship being an ev specialist as well as the flight surgeon , the latter occupation being the one now to call his attention away from his idle musings : he had to get to the medical bay to see to officer ripley. nothing serious so it had looked , but still he had asked her to meet him in the medbay so that he could take a proper look with the appropriate medical equipment that could tell him the state of her health far better than a mere visual exam could. 

       STOWING HIS SUIT & GEAR neatly into their place , beck made his way down the mapping of corridors towards where the medbay lay nearer the centre of the ship. steps purposeful & stride swift , though unhurried , he could find his way there even if blindfolded by now. 

       ENTERING HARDLY A HANDFUL of minutes later , instantly spying ripley once the doors parted for him , he made his way towards her. a kind smile tugged at the corners of his lips , polite & amiable in hopes to put her at ease. an expression he usually held for patients , given medical tended to be avoided if it could be helped , in spite of rules & regulations. although it didn't mean his expression was any less genuine than if it hadn't been practised. naturally affable he was , albeit a touch quiet. tone light , yet concerned , he asked.

Heat crept up her neck and cheeks, prickling her skin, reverberating off of her nerves, and it hadn’t stopped since Cameron had seen the documents on Uncle Robert’s desk. She had heard him whispering, locking the doors before taking calls, and trying to keep Cam busy and as far from his office as possible. And, maybe the mystery gang wasn’t much of a mystery gang anymore, but old habits die hard. 

It took Cam all of ten minutes to find the debrief on the reborn. He hadn’t even remembered to put it back in his filing cabinet, the moron. People rising from the dead, living and breathing once again? It sounded like a load of Vanguard horse shit. Until she got to the list of names.

That’s how she ended up in Triton Park in the near middle of the night, feeling, simultaneously, like she was going to pass out and scream. But she couldn’t do anything until she told Beck. She needed to show Beck the photos of this file, and confirm her brain hadn’t made the entire thing up. But, that was contingent on her getting her words out, and with the way her breathing hitched and sputtered as she warded off the tears for just a little bit longer, she wasn’t convinced she could manage it.

the flat side of her fist hammers, unforgivingly against Beck’s trailer door in continuous raps until it finally opens to reveal Beck on the other side. Cameron’s shoving her phone, photo app already open, into Beck’s hand. “I— I can’t...” She trails off for a moment, trying to steady her mind enough to force out a complete sentence. “I can’t tell if th- this is r- real. Tell me you- you’re reading what I am.”

With the days colder, she was getting hot coffee and she walked up to the counter to get it. "Hey. Black coffee, make it large." She told the woman behind the desk and looked over some of the food they had. "Add in one of those egg sandwiches."

All it takes is one glance from her before the two share a barely visible nod to one another, immediately taking what appears as a lovers stroll through the town. Intentionally close to sundown, Odessa stirring the air around them into nothingness. One arm winding around his, the two of them attempt to sync to the town, it's very earth and it's very air. Trying to find a missing piece that hangs above Orient Bay. "Anything?" she whispers gently to Beck, only giving him a subtle glance and smile. "I feel something, like...moving? Patrol, maybe?" she shrugs, keeping all of her own expressions as casual as possible. "If they come, we are looking for somewhere to fuck. I will say."

Aimless, it could practically be June’s middle name at that point. She idly walked through the food area, occasionally popping a cheese curd in her mouth and wiping the excess grease off on her patchwork shorts. Bored and a little lonely, she was not sure what she should do next. There were plenty of people she knew somewhere within the crowds and at the very least she could go find a family member to annoy for a while. That train of thought was cut off when she spotted a familiar silhouette near the food area. 

With a smile, she moved closer and poked Beckett lightly in the arm. “Hey fancy seeing you here.” She greeted, her face warm and excited. June met Beck at the national park after going there enough times to escape all that is life and a little muse inspiration. He showed her a lot of the off-trail places she didn’t know about. After a while they just started bonding as people do and now she considered him a close friend. “Were you giving tours? I took one of my baby cousins that’s visiting earlier, he got so excited. I forget how much we take all this stuff for granted.” Her free hand motioned in a circle in the air. “Like, y’know the mountains and flowers and way too desensitized-by-people wildlife, ‘cause we see it everyday.” She paused to pop another cheese curd in her mouth. “But, like, he’s from North Dakota and they don’t have anything but prairie and flatness. It’s crazy.” June shook her head, mouth still partially full from the snack. 

“Anyways, what are you up to? How was your day? Want to hang for a while?” The words fell from her mouth quickly and she beamed at him, allowing time for him to get a word in finally.

growing up in a household where following your dreams end up being a reality, gabriel rahal-de la cruz really felt like anything he strived for he could easily achieve. and gabe had a lot of different interest, from playing soccer, to playing tennis, writing like his mom, and then there was acting. he never thought acting would be in the picture, but when he starred in his first role for a franchise, it felt like a dream come true. until real life came at him and the dream seemed just that, a dream.

realizing that he was going to always be remembered for his one role, casting for something else as a teenager was much more difficult than he thought. and with both his parents busy with their own careers, his mom on her third hit book, and his father winning the ticket for a senate seat in california, he felt like the focus had shifted to represent them. and now he had a new role to play, of the perfect younger son.

but there was still a bit of wild child in him, even when he went to a boarding school in los angeles. he became the golden boy, the athlete, the party boy. but throughout those four years, he came to a realization that he was losing himself, the closer he was reaching the end of his high school years. he had missed the one thing that brought joy to him, and he knew that acting was the one thing that gave him that.

so when he graduated, he decided to study film while also doing auditions. as years went on, one of his mother's books got auctioned to become a film, and he auditioned for the main role, which he couldn't believe he had gotten the role. there was a part of him that felt that nepotism was involved, but he always worked hard in whatever he did, and he knew he would kill it in this role.

mixed reviews. it had gotten mixed reviews, many critics calling it a good adaptation, but the acting could have been better, and well, he took it personal and to heart reading that he got this role because he was the son of the author. but did that stop him. no.

he graduated university, and he kept auditioning. and he got another role, a huge one. a love story, and he couldn't believe how much people loved the film. but the reason for their success was because of the rumors that gabe was dating his co-star. the thing is, he was secretly hooking up with one of the camera guys. once the studio found out, they highly recommended that gabe not lean into his sexuality, even though he was bisexual. they wanted bigger success, and that meant leaning into the romance that was already on screen. he didn't realize that hollywood was still like this. but if he wanted a bigger career, he had to play along.

gabe was feeling all sorts of ways. he didn't like the fact that he was hiding his sexuality, but he didn't want to stop acting. but was it a lie if he was dating women, he was still attracted to them. and he was so excited for his next role. so he decided to play the part, and eventually he picked up another role. his new role dealt with immigration, and it was close to home, knowing that he had family members that were immigrants, his own grandfather being one. so taking this role, he felt close to it. and the buzz going around that this could easily get some big award noms put a little more pressure, but he knew he'd give it his full attention and make sure he gave his character justice.

currently writing a script of his own, which has been more of a hobby and isn't sure if he will ever finish since he's so self critical about everything he writes.

        WANTED CONNECTIONS

you are my blood: ⦗ older half brother (35-40) or older full/half sister (30-32) ⦘ this could be either one that may already be living in town. they had moved here years before gabe did. he isn't close to his older half brother, because of age difference, but perhaps this is their chance to finally be. his sister on the other hand, gabe is much closer with. either character can be from their dad side who is latin, or their mom side who is middle eastern.

best friends for life: this is someone who has been best friends with gabe since they were kids. it so happens that they moved to denver a year ago, and when they realize that gabe was going to be out there to film his next movie, they planned the entire move together, excited to be in the same city again.

we are each others found family: so this person was someone that he befriended later in life. perhaps in college or after he graduated. this person is someone he feels like a twin to. every secret, every love, every heartbreak, they knew all about it. and when gabe got this role, he told them to move out with him to denver. now they both are living together in an apartment downtown.

can't stand this costar: this is someone he has worked with, and perhaps they work together now in this new film that's filming in denver. it's usually the two of them always fighting for similar roles. they were once friends before, but jealousy has come between them. they know gabe's secret about him being bisexual, as they may have hooked up in the past.

can you be friends with a fan?: it's a question that's always been asked. would you befriend a fan, would you date them? the real question here though is, could the fan have an obsession. who knows. and maybe this fan might be a little obsessive, or maybe just admires them for the work they do. but either way, gabe ends up befriending them. will he regret it later, time will tell.

i would leave it all for you: this is someone that gabe never thought he'd get close to. they had crossed paths in the past, but now they are here, and there's something about him that he likes. gabe at first isn't sure if they are just trying to get close to him because of his fame or for him. and even after denying the feelings, he realizes that he may be the one for him. but would he risk outing himself to the world for him? // taken by @allexei
