CHAPTER 5: THE DARK WOLF THAT SMOLDERS (PART 9)

(Part 7+8) | (Part 10+11)

Just one section today cuz this one is pretty... intense. Yuri and friends have made it into a secret lab in search of another Kaleidoscope device. Let’s see what they end up finding!

Yuri: —Aha, here we are. There's definitely a huge research facility here. ——おし、ここだな。確かにでけえ研究施設がある。

Velvet: It looks like that soldier wasn’t lying. あの兵士、嘘は言ってなかったみたいね。

Luke: I think anyone would be intimidated by these two… そりゃこの二人にあの勢いで凄まれたら誰だって……。

Guy: …Hey, doesn’t it seem a little too quiet in here? Even if they’re searching for that Aster guy, they’ve really thinned out… ……なあ、少し静かすぎないか？アステルって奴の捜索でここは手薄になってると考えても……。

Yuri: Who knows. I don’t see any Kaleidoscopes here, though. …I’m gonna have a look around. Everyone, be quiet as possible. だな。カレイドスコープらしきものも見当たらねえし……ちと探ってみるか。できるだけ静かにな。

Repede: …*whines* ——ッ！

Yuri: What’s the matter? What’s got you all worked up? どうした、あっちが気になるか？

???: —no……but…— ——ない——それでも——。

Yuri: That voice… it’s coming from over there. 話し声……、この奥だ。

Guy: Let’s go. Everyone, be careful not to be spotted. 行ってみよう。みんな、見つからないように気を付けるよ。

[ The group moves out ]

Yuri: ——！ !

Karol: That’s Flynn…! フレンだ……！

Velvet: Looks like he’s talking to Nazar. They were right: he looks just like Ix. 話をしているのがナーザみたいね。聞いたとおり、イクスそっくり。

Laphicet: Yeah, but his face looks a little more mature. うん。やっぱり少し大人っぽいね。

Nazar: —Even if we increase the number of Living Dolls, it’ll be difficult to pair them with Bifrost’s dead. ——今のままリビングドールを増やしても死んだビフレスト国民を難らせることは難しいだろうな。

Flynn?: Yes, that’s my concern as well. はい。私もそれを懸念しています。

Flynn?: Richard and Lambda have certainly given us some good inspiration, but it is difficult to give the animus particle the same characteristics as Lambda. 確かにリチャードとラムダはいいひらめきをくれましたが、ラムダのような特性をアニムス粒子に持たせるのは難しい。

Flynn?: I could only capture the animus particle by using this Nexus’ body, so... 私はこの鏡映点の体を使うことでしかアニムス粒子を取り込めませんでしたから。

Yuri: “This body”…? この体……？

Nazar: …I am already inside of a dead body. ……俺など、すでに死んだ体だからな。

Flynn?: I know. That is why the anima of this Nexus— わかっています。だからこそ、この鏡映点のアニマは——

Yuri: I see. …Screw this. なるほどね。 ……ざけやがって。

Raven: …Hey, call down, kid. We don’t know what’s going on. ……落ち着け青年。らしくないよ。

Yuri: …Sorry, old man. There’s no way I can do that! ……わりいな、おっさん。そいつあ無理ってもんだ！

[ Yuri runs on ahead ]

Raven: Hey, Yuri! Tch—there’s no helping that kid! おい、ユーリ！チッ——仕方ねえなぁ、あのあんちゃんは！

Repede: WOOF!! ワウリ！ !

[ Repede and Raven chase after Yuri ]

Karol: Hey, wait! ちよ、待ってよ！

[ Karol chases after them ]

Guy: Oh no, looks like we need to go too! まずい、俺たちも出るぞ！

Luke: Seriously, what’s with that guy!? あいつ、なにやってんだよ！

[ Guy and Luke run, too ]

Laphicet: Yuri, you’ve always been so calm, but you looked so angry just now. ユーリ、いつも冷静そうなのにあんなに怒って……。

Velvet: …That’s what happens when someone you care about gets trampled. ……大事な人が踏みにじられれば、ああなるわよ。

[ Velvet and Laphicet chase the others, and we change scenes ]

Nazar: —Who are you!? ——貴様はっ！ ?

Flynn?: Get behind me! あなたは後ろへ——！

Flynn?: Who are you!? Where did you come from!? 何者だ！どこから入った！

Yuri: No, you tell us who you are. Because you’re sure as hell not my friend, Flynn. てめえこそ何者だよ。少なくともオレのダチのフレンじゃねえな。

Flynn?: …I see, so you know this body’s… ……そうか、お前はこの体の……。

Yuri: We can figure out what you’re up to later… Right now, figuring this out comes first. てめえらがなに企んでんのかは後でじっくり教えてもらうが……今はこっちのが先だ。

Yuri: You’re possessing Flynn, aren’t you? Get the hell out of him. お前、フレンに取り憑いてんだろ？とっとと出ていけ。

Flynn?: “Possessing”? Let me correct that. I’m— 取り憑いている？それは訂正させて欲しいな。私は——

Yuri: I don’t give a shit! If you don’t get out of him, I’ll force you out! どうでもいいんだよ、んなことは！嫌なら力づくで返してもらうぜ！

[ Yuri attacks Flynn? ]

Flynn?: Kuh….! くっ……！

Yuri: So you just take over someone’s body and do whatever you want with it? How selfish can you guys be? 他人の体乗っ取って好き勝手か？どんだけ偉いんだよてめえらは。

Yuri: If he’s still in there… I know he’d be begging me to break your arrogant nose and stop you! そいつなら……その体の持ち主ならな、自分の傲慢な鼻つ柱へし折って止めてくれっていうはずだぜ！

Flynn?: What’s…!? 何を……！

[ A bright flash fills the screen ]

Karol: Yuri’s mirrage is shining!! ユーリの魔鏡が光ってる！ !

Luke: Is this what Cecily was talking about!? セシリイが言ってたのってこれのことか！ ?

Nazar: What is this bizarre anima…! Hey, Baldr, get away from him! なんだこの異様なアニマは……！おい、下がれバルド！

Baldr: ——！！

Raven: Hey, hey, what’s with the size of that shimmera!? I’m not a fan of your services, Nazar! ……おいおい、なによこの光魔、でかすぎでしょ！ ?んなサービスいらないっての！

Nazar: This will be your opponent! 貴様らの相手はこいつだ！

I've been thinking about this for a while after the Recollections release and had to get it down even as just a sketch for now.

I hope we see Kocis soon. He has no eyepatch here because I have hopes he doesn't have it anymore haha. It's probably a pipe dream but.

混雑のラグもなくなり、致命的なバグも解消されてゆき、平和なゲームになってきました('ω') ギャザリングのリポップが数日かかるのが不具合だったということで、毎日鉱石パラダイス！

掘るのが大変という意見も

エステのはなし

ミーネスロディアに合いそうなアクセを色々買ってしまった！帽子とリボン！

ミーネスロディア自体は町の見張りの人のコスっぽいけど、タウリアラーグ的なミリタリーよさみを感じる…イイヨネ

ラーフェマフラーはこれ用ではないけど、ビビッときて買っちゃった！使ってみてやっぱええなあおい('ω')ってなった！

あとこれ！SGの新メイク。

デフォのメイクはスキットだと唇目立ちがちだけど、優しい色合いだからかなりよき('ω') ACのメイク欲しかったけど、これで十分すぎた！

前回の日記で(/ω・＼)ﾁﾗｯと書いた６９連爆死の中で唯一当たりかなってお品でした… Ha１個も出ないね～

装備のはなし

リサージュ買いました。

買って＋４０まで叩きました('ω')

テルミナがバグってるから本来の強さがわからんけど、イクスよりは強くなってる気がする～あ、使ってたイクスはライフルに変更したよ。してみたらホミのザコ掃除がメッチャ快適だったのでリサージュライフルをマルチウェポン化したい…リサージュどこ…？

swikiくんを見る限りエルディサイスと研究所のドロ報告が…('ω') ラボラタノート補充ついでにまわってみよかな？キャトリアマシンガン狙いで登山ばっかりしてたのでこれをきに～

能力はいったん仮でつけておいた！絶望エネミーのカプセル次第で構成は検討しよう！

潜在４のエクスキューブは今４個！もうちょっと！緊急がんばろうね…！

防具も１か所できました、射撃+7.0%！この前のプリセット付きキャトリアアーマくん

ドミナ作るの大変だったーけどノートと共存できることを知れてよかった('ω') ついでの副産物でパワーIIIが３０個くらいあったから強化に使ったメセタをペイできた、うれしみ！

あとペダスソールも出土すくないし高騰してる…つらいね～武器につける分ないなったからまた１００個も必要… ペダスエアリオとか実装してくれない('ω')？？

あと２部位…！！でも在庫はないのだ！マイショは４００～９００ｋもするし～自掘り…するにもプリセットつきユニット自体が全然でないんだよねえ！

そういやずーっと迷彩つけてたな～って思って、外してみた！リサージュ、ゴテゴテしてなくていい感じ～

PSO2の日のはなし

でもリージョンマグのエサやり分をタダでくれると思うと良心的な気がするね！平日だからプレイ時間はあんまりだけど結構レアが出てくれた気がする！ ☆４ユニットはうれしみ！リサージュなしはかなしみ！

次週のアプデのはなし

絶望エネミー実装！なんかウワサじゃ３分で消えるとか言われてて、全然ムリそう('ω')

探索セクション活発化でエアル・ノート、ステ３の値下がりしそうで気になりどころ～パワ３だけ売っとくか('ω')売った('ω')

あとオプションの遠景表示距離伸ばしたけどよくわからんち！

Hey, it’s been like 3000 years since I uploaded this chapter, hasn’t it? Well, as an apology, I’ll be uploading two parts in this one! I’m not super confident about Cecily’s whole exposition on what the Overray mirrage does, but ah, well.

Lloyd: Sorry, guys. Thanks for waiting! わりぃ。待たせたな！

Karol: Leon, Lloyd, welcome! Sit wherever you like. リオン、ロイド、いらっしゃい！好きな所に座って。

Leon: …Hey, is this guy really in charge? He’s just a child. ……おい、本当にあいつが仕切るのか？子供だぞ。

Yuri: Now, now, you should never underestimate our rising star leader. Besides, he’s already been elected, you know? おいおい、オレたち凛々の明星の首領をなめてもらっちゃ困るな。それに今やあいつはカロル室長さまだぜ？

Raven: Yep, that’s right. And by the way, Leon, from ol’ Raven’s point of view, you’re just a cute little kid too. そうそう。あとね、おっさんからすれば、リオンくんだって、いたいけで可愛い、立派なお子様だから。

Leon: ...Tsk. Let’s get on with the meeting already. ……チッ。さっさと始める。

Karol: All right, then! The first meeting of the Karol Investigation Division will now begin! それじゃ、第一回カロル調査室会合を始めます！

Karol: Err…um…what shall we talk about first? えっと、それでまずは……何を調べる？

Dezel: Hey, is this really how we’re getting started...? おい、そこからなのか……。

Karol: I’m just saying! We’ve got a lot to talk about: Ix, the Voidstorm, Living Dolls...we can’t possibly discuss them all in one meeting, right? だって、イクスのことや、死の砂嵐とかリビングドールとか……。全部いっぺんに調べるのは無理でしょ��

Yuri: Then, why don't we just look at into the information we know for sure? だったら、今確実にわかってる情報を深掘りしてくのが手っ取り早いんじゃねえの？

Karol: All right. Then let’s start with...the special nexuses mentioned in Zelos’s report. The one’s held captive by the Empire: Regal and Johnny. そっか。いま確実にだと……ゼロスの報告書にあった、帝国にいる特異鏡映点かな。確かリーガルとジョニー。

Rose: I get it. So that’s why Yuri rounded up Lloyd and Leon. なるほどね。それでユーリは、ロイドとリオンを呼んだんだ。

Yuri: Sure is. I wanted to hear more about their personalities. Regal especially, since I heard he decided to stay locked up. まずは捕まってるお仲間の人となりを聞きたくてな。特にリーガルってのは、自分の意思で残ったって話だろ？

Karol: Yeah, he did. Regal stayed in prison because he wanted to prevent the revival of someone important to him—I think? It sounds like he wanted to be absolutely certain that didn’t happen. うん。リーガルが残ったのは大事な人を魅らせないために——だよね？絶対に阻止するって言ってたみたいだけど。

Yuri: Sounds like it. Sure, he’s locked up, but that doesn’t mean we can predict what he’ll do. らしいな。捕まってるとはいえ、リーガルがあっちでどんな動きをするのかオレたちじゃ予測がつかねえ。

Yuri: So, Lloyd, what kind of guy is he? で、ロイド。どんな奴なんだ？

Lloyd: Let’s see: Regal is super strong and kind, he’s the president of a big company, he’s really calm, he wears handcuffs all the time— リーガルは、すげえ強くて優しくて、大きい会社の会長で、落ちついてて、手錠してて——

Leon: That’s all meaningless. Can’t you share information that’s useful? なんだその薄っぺらい話は。もっと有益な情報はないのか。

Lloyd: I-I had a lot more I was about to say, okay!? Fine then, tell us about Johnny, Leon. こ、これから色々話そうと思ったんだって！だったら、リオンの仲間だっていうジョニーのこと聞かせてくれないか？

Leon: About Johnny? Very well... Johnny... sings songs. ジョニーか？そうだな……。ジョニーは…………歌を歌う。

Dezel: ...*snort* ………。

Rose: Dezel, why are your shoulders shaking? デゼル、肩震えてるけどどうかした？

Dezel: I-It’s nothing! Leave me be! な、なんでもねえ！放っておけ！

Raven: Leon, ol’ Raven thinks you should share some actually useful information too. あのさあリオンくん、おっさんもーちょっと有益な情報が聞きたいわ。

Leon: I-I know that, but his singing is the first thing that came to mind! わ、わかっている!歌のイメージが強烈すぎるんだ、あいつは！

Leon: Anyway… though his music leaves the strongest impression, that’s only one side of him. He’s strong and a good leader. まあ……能天気に歌っている印象が強いがそれはあの男の一面だ。冷静だし統率力もそれなりにある。

Leon: And…he has a troubled past. そして……重い過去もな。

Karol: What do you meanby “troubled”? 重いってどんな？

Leon: Johnny was hopelessly in love with a woman named Eleanor, but she was killed by an evil man. ジョニーにはエレノアという片思いの女性がいた。だが、過去に卑劣な男のせいで命を落としている。

Leon: We met Johnny during a conflict between our respective countries, and we helped him to finally avenge her death… そして、国がらみの争いで僕たちと出会い、結局奴は、その仇を討った。愛する人のために。

Leon: ...That is how I saw it, at least. Stahn may view it differently. ……少なくとも僕はそう思っている。スタンは違う見方をするかもしれないけどな。

Lloyd: I see... Both Johnny and Regal have lost someone important. そうか……。ジョニーもリーガルと一緒で、大事な人を亡くしてたんだな。

Rose: Maybe Johnny and Regal have the same reason for staying. もしかしたら、ジョニーもリーガルと同じかもしれないね。

Rose: Maybe they both want to stopped their loved ones from being used in the Living Doll Project. 愛した人をリビングドール計画に使わせないために、何か考えてるのかも。

Dezel: But both of them have been missing since they were removed from prison, right? だがそいつは、牢から連れ出されて行方知れずって話だろう？

Dezel: We still don't know enough about them. If you’re too trusting, it will only lead to pain. We can’t be sure which side they’re on. 何を考えてるかまだわからねえ。信用しすぎると痛い目をみるぜ。誰がどっちについてるかも曖昧だからな。

Raven: Of course we have to be careful. Sure, there are nexuses working with the Empire, but some of them are willing to help us out. 確かに、慎重に見分けないとね。帝国側についてる鏡映点にも、こっちに協力的なのがいるって話だし。

Lloyd: I'm sure we can trust Shing and Caius. They’re ones who delivered Chester's letter. Rubia was also taken captive by them, too. チェスターの手紙を届けにきたシングとカイウスだろ？確かルビアって子も捕まってるはずだ。

Yuri: …Well, we don’t know why everyone is with the Empire. ……ま、中には目的がわからないままあっちに付いてる奴もいるけどな。

Raven: …Like Flynn? You do gotta wonder why he’d be working as Demetrius' aide. ……フレンちゃんね。デミトリアスの側近やってるっていうけど何か考えてんのかな。

Yuri: Yeah, that’s what I want to figure out. So— ああ、それも確かめなきゃなんねえ。ってことで——、

Yuri: Captain Karol! I request permission to re-infiltrate the empire to gather information! カロル先生！情報収集のため、帝国再潜入の許可を願いまーす！

Karol: Huh! ? I'd like to, but... our other investigations... え！？許可したいけど、潜入しちゃうと他の調査が……。

Yuri: Don’t worry about it. Anyway— 心配ねえよ。その辺は——

Rose: If you use business connections, you can get all kinds of information. Let me show off what the Sparrowfeathers can do! こっちで商売のルートたどって、巷の細かい情報さらうんでしょ。セキレイの羽の本領発揮って感じ？

Yuri: Obviously. Though, it would be a pain in the ass for us if you guys caused trouble for us. ご明察。あんたらが面倒起こして後々商売に支障がでるのは、オレたちにとっても痛手だからな。

Rose: Yeah, I think it would be better for both of us if we split up. I've been in and out of the Commerce and Industry Guild a lot lately, so I'll check out their information networks as well. うん、お互いにその方が良さそう。最近は商エギルドへの出入りも多いしそっちの情報網からもたどってみるわ。

Rose: Oh, right, there's a merchant in the Imperial City that you can trust, so I'll write you a letter of introduction. それと、帝都に信頼できる商人がいるから紹介状書いとくよ。

Rose: Since he works with us, he has some behind-the-scenes knowledge, so I'm sure he'll help you out with whatever you need. あたしたちと通じるくらいだから、それなりに裏はあるんだけどさ。多分色々と便宜を図ってくれると思う。

Yuri: Getting such great service, I’m sure we’ll be bringing back some great news. そんな大サービスされたんじゃ、それなりのネタ掴んで帰らないといけねえな。

Rose: Hehe~, make sure you bring me back a souvenir! へへ～、お土産よろしく！

Karol: Then the first move of the Karol Investigation Division is officially decided! So, so me and Raven will be part of the infiltration team... じゃあカロル調査室の方針はこれで決定！それと、ボクとレイヴンは潜入班でいいとして……。

Karol: Rita—no, she’s too busy with Keele’s Lab, so we can ask Estelle. あとはリタ——は、キール研究室の方で忙しいし、エステルに声かけてくるよ。

Yuri: Wait. If I remember right, she’s still working on helping Ami, isn’t she? 待った。確かあいつ、アミィをどうにかしてやりたいって言って今も張りついてんだろ？

Karol: Oh, right. People who can use healing arts like Mint and Estelle are working together to discuss how to cure Ami. うん。ミントやエステルみたいな治癒術を使う人たちが集まって、アミィを治す方法を相談してた。

Yuri: Then let's leave them to that. The right people should be in the right places. ならあっちを任せようぜ。適材適所ってことで。

Karol: Okay. Then how about we ask someone else! わかった。それじゃ他の誰かを誘ってみる！

Yuri: I’m sure it’s gonna be rough, so let’s avoid recruiting any hotheads, okay? 今回も荒事は避けられねえだろうし、血の気の多そうなのと抑え役、頼むわ。

Cecily: Oh, is the meeting over? I’m so sorry. I meant to come sooner, but couldn’t make it in time… あれ、会合終わっちゃった？ごめんなさい。誘われてたのに顔を出せなくて……。

Cecily: It’s something I made for everyone, but it took a while to make enough. こねね、みんなに渡そうと思ってたら量産に時間がかかっちゃった。

Cecily: This is a new Mirrage, an “Overray mirrage.” I want you to take it with you! これは新しい魔鏡、【浄玻璃鏡】っていうんだけど是非、みんなに持っていってもらいたいの！

Laphicet: Oh, I found a bug! Do you know what kind it is, Karol? あ、あの虫、珍しいよ！カロルは名前知ってる？

Karol: B-bug!? I don't really know much about bugs. Why don't you ask Luke? む、虫！？ボクはよくわからないから。ルークに聞いたら？

Luke: No idea. Don’t we have a guy who’s an expert on this kind of thing? 俺もちょっとなー。こういうの得意なヤツっていないか？

Laphicet: Eizen or Dezel might know... I'll bring it home and show it to them. Karol, can I put it in your bag— アイゼンやデゼルだったら知ってるかも……持って帰って見せてみるよ。カロル、カバンに入れてもらっても——

Karol: Wah! No! No, no, no, no! うわーダメダメダメダメダメ！

Laphicet: Karol, are you afraid of bugs? Even though it's so cool...look! カロル、虫嫌いなの？こんなにカッコいいのに……ほら！

Karol: Wah! No, I don’t want it in there! うわー！こっち持ってきちゃイヤーッ！

Velvet: Phi, we aren’t here to play. Karol has an important letter he needs to deliver, so don’t make him drop it. フィー、遊びに来てるわけじゃないでしょ。カロルも大事な手紙落とさないように気を付けなさい。

Karol: N-No, it's fine. Rose’s letter is in my bag. See! だ、大丈夫だよ。ロゼにもらった紹介状ならちゃんとカバンに入れてるから。ほら！

Raven: Oh-ho~? Couldn’t you fit the bug in that little space there? ほほ～う？そのカバンの隙間、この虫くらいなら入るんじゃない？

Luke: You could! You could put it in there and take it back safe and sound. 本当だな！ここなら安全に連れて帰れそうじゃん。

Karol: Raven...! And not you, too, Luke! ちょ、レイヴン、ルークまで！

Velvet: All of you...what did I just say? まったく……、言っても聞きやしないんだから。

Repede: Woof... ワフ～ン……。

Guy: Haha, but lively kids are a good thing, right? ハハッ、けど子供が騒いでるのってなごむじゃないか。

Yuri: Yeah, but we’ve got an old man with us. ああ。おっさんが一人混じってるけどな。

Yuri: Karol said he was asking Guy and Velvet, but somehow we’ve got a couple of tagalongs. ところで、カロルはガイとベルベットに声かけたっつってたけどずいぶんおまけが増えてんのな。

Guy: Luke was whining about a time we snuck through the woods to get to the capital, saying it counted as infiltration experience. He said he wanted to get used to this kind of thing. あいつ、自分は帝都潜入経験者だっていって駄々こねてさ。それになんか、自分も慣れなきゃいけないとかなんとか。

Yuri: …Is he still saying that stuff? I told him this kind of thing isn’t for everyone. ……まだそんなこと考えてんのか、あのお坊ちゃんは。向き不向きがあるって言ってんのに。

Guy: What are you talking about? なんのことだ？

Yuri: Don’t worry about it. It’s your territory. Anyway, what about Phi? いや、なんでもねえよ。こりや多分お前さんの領分だ。んで、フィーは？

Velvet: I told him about the infiltration and this mirrage, and all of a sudden he said he wanted to go with me. I don't know why... 潜入の件とこの魔鏡の話をしたら、突然いっしょに行くって言いだしたのよ。どういうつもりなんだか……。

Yuri: Mirrage...you mean the Overray mirrage that Cecily gave us? 魔鏡ってセシリィにもらった、この【浄玻璃鏡】のことか。

[ FLASHBACK ]

Yuri: An overay mirrage...this is for us? 浄玻璃鏡……これを持ってけって？

Cecily: Yes. Some people had abilities in their original worlds that they can’t use here, like Ludger with his chromatus. ええ。ルドガーさんのように、元の世界では備わっていた能力が、この世界では使えないっていう人がいるみたいで……。

Rose: That’s right! Sorey and I haven’t been able to use armatization since we got here. そうそう！あたしもスレイもこの世界に来てからは神依が使えなくてさ。

Cecily: I thought so. やっぱりね。

Cecily: Stuff like Chromatus and Armatization are easy to understand, but are there other techniques you could use in your original world? 骸殻や神依のようなわかりやすい技じゃなくても、元の世界で使えていた術や技が使えないってことがあるんじゃないかな？

Yuri: Sure are. I thought it was a problem with the mirrage tech at first, but then people from different worlds had the same thing happen. 確かにな。魔導器の問題かとも思ったがオレたちとは違う世界の連中も似たようなことは言ってた。

Cecily: It's only natural, given how encoding works. エンコードの影響を考えれば当然のことなの。

Cecily: Because nexuses are a special entities that don’t naturally exist on Tir Na Nog, there’d be problems if they were exactly like they were in their original worlds. 鏡映点は特殊な存在だから元の世界と全く同じように具現化すると不具合が出てしまう可能性がある。

Cecily: But that’s because the Kaleidoscope’s alignment messed up the exoflection. If you consider each person’s pattern and get used to it, there’s no problem. でもそれはカレイドスコープの照準が大雑把だったせいなの。一人一人のパターンを考慮して馴染ませれば問題はないわ。

Cecily: This mirrage looks for each nexus’s individual capabilities and finds the catalyst that triggers a release of power. この魔鏡はね、鏡映点の中にある能力の滞留をサーチして、力を解放するきっかけとなる触媒を見つけてくれるの。

Cecily: It reconnects the nexus’s original power from what is encoded in their anima about their past and possible future. そして鏡映点のアニマに刻まれた過去や起こりうる未来から、鏡映点の本来の力をバ、さわしい形に構築してくれる。

Cecily: When it encounters a catalytic event, like with Ludger, it shines forth and creates an Overray state. ルドガーさんの時みたいに触媒となる事象に出会うと、輝きだしてオーバーレイ状態を引き起こすわ。

Cecily: At that time, it’s possible to draw out and release the mirrage’s power, albeit temporarily. その時には、一時的にだけど鏡によって構築された力を引き出して放出することができるの。

Cecily: In other words, if you can find the catalyst for this mirrage, you can use Overray. Even if you're not a mirrist, like Ix. You can regain the powers you had in your original world. 要は、この魔鏡で触媒を見つけられれば鏡士じゃなくてもオーバーレイが使える。元の世界と同じ力を取り戻せる。

Cecily: I think this will be a big help. これって絶対役に立つと思うんだ。

Cecily: So just in case, I want you all to hold onto one and report back if anything changes. Please. だから念のため、みんなに持ってもらって、何か変化があったら報告して欲しいの。お願いね。

[ END FLASHBACK ]

Yuri: So, maybe Phi is feeling some kind of power limitation? フィーは何か力の制限を強く感じてるのかもな。

Velvet: Yeah. Maybe things are different for him since he’s a malak... そうね。あの子は聖隷だし、あたしとは違う何かがあるのかも……。

Yuri: …Nah, I think it’s the other way around. ……いや、案外逆かも知れないな。

Velvet: ...Huh? ……え？

Laphicet: Hey, are you talking about mirrage? Velvet, is your mirrage glowing!? ねえ魔鏡の話？もしかしてベルベット、魔鏡が光ったの！？

Velvet: What? What’s got you in a panic? It’s not. 何？そんなに慌てて。違うわよ。

Laphicet: Oh, I'm glad... そう、よかった……。

Velvet: What do you mean, you’re glad? よかったって、何よそれ。

Laphicet: Because! That mirrage will return your old abilities, so…I’m worried you’ll…go back to how you were when you were first exoflected… だってその魔鏡、前と同じ能力が戻るって。もしかしたらベルベットも……その……具現化前みたいに……。

Velvet: —! Did you want to come with me because you were worried about me losing my sense of taste? ——！あんたまさか、あたしの穢れや味覚のことが心配でそれでついてきたの？

Laphicet: …………。

Velvet: ...It's okay. And even if I did, I— ……大丈夫よ。それにもしそうなったとしても、あたしは——

Karol: —Emil!? Hey, Emil! ——エミル！？おーいエミルーッ！

Yuri: What's wrong, Karol? What about Emil? どうしたカロル。エミルがなんだって？

Karol: I saw Emil. Just around the corner. エミルがいたんだよ。あの道を曲がってった。

Raven: Emil? Are you sure you saw that right? He couldn’t come with us this time. エミル？見間違いじゃないの？今回のメンバーに入ってないでしょが。

Karol: No, I saw him with my own two eyes. Maybe he wanted to go with us so badly that he followed us without saying a word. ううん、この目でちゃんと見たんだ。どうしてもボクたちと行きたくて黙ってついてきちゃったのかも。

Guy: That’s...kind of hard to picture... そ、それは考えにくいと思うけどな……。

Yuri: Well, let's take a look anyway. Repede, do you remember Emil’s scent? ま、とにかく探してみるか。ラピード��エミルのにおい覚えてるか？

Repede: Woof! ワン！

Yuri: All right, then we’ll leave it to you. よし、それじゃ頼むぜ。オレたちもその辺見てまわるぞ。

BLEACH - Sternritter Schrift

The Viability (ザ·バイアビリチ → Za Baiabirichi)

生存能力 = 生存 → “Existance”/”Survival,” 能力 → “Ability”/”Faculty”/”Capacity”

This was the eventual explanation of Shaz Domino’s The V power, given to him by Gremmy as one of his creations. But it’s ability basically granted him the power to survive without Gremmy’s direct influence, and it gave way to another new power, which I’ll get to at the end of this...

This wasn't technically the doing of Kubo, this was something Ryohgo Narita in the short story Beginning of the Revive of Tomorrow, in the 13 BLADEs bata book. But he does tend to play ball with Kubo’s overall style and sensibilities pretty well. (although not always)

The Wind (ザ・ワインド → Za Wain’do)

紆余曲折 = 紆 → “Roundabout,” 余 → “Too Much,” 曲折 → “Winding”/“Twisting & Turning”

Specifically there the modifying/modified pair is 紆余 → “Too Roundabout” as 余 is a suffix.

This one was actually one of my favorite Sternritter powers. Even though it’s a pretty straight forward idea without much obtuse interpretation of boundaries to contend with, I liked how it affected the physical world in a seemingly nonsense way but via a very clear abstract concept: Make things twisted. So the spacial warping was a lot of fun. Shame Nianzol died so quickly.

The X-Axis (ジ・イクサクシス → Zi Ikusakushisu)

万物貫通 = 万物 → “All things” 貫通 → “Pierce”/“Penetrate”

It weirds me out everytime i try to read it that Kubo mashed the phonetics of “X” and “Axis” together, because I feel like it should make more sense to pronounce/write more like イクスアクシス → ikusu-akushisu; emphasizing the “EX-AX...” and not sounding like “Exacts...”

Funny enough Kubo actually made a typo in the original magazine print that had to be fixed for the book release. He wrote it as 石物貫通, 石 → “Stone” rather than 万 → “10,000”/”Myriad”/”All,” and in both cases 物 → “Thing(s).”

I really wonder if Kubo had this one in mind early on or if he had to come to the realization halfway into the arc that he had extremely limited options for X. It’s actually a really cool idea for a power considering what he had to work with.

The Yourself (ジ・ユアセルフ → Zi Yuaserufu)

貴方自身 = 貴方 → “You,” 自身 → “One’s Self”

Honestly given what an abstract and grammar specific concept this is you’d think there’d have been a more complicated wordplay to it or something, but no, it’s super super straight forward somehow.

Worth nothing, if it hadn’t already been super obvious, the brothers Loyd Lloyd and Royd Lloyd have perfectly identical names in Japanese, both: ロイド・ロイド → Roido Roido, and when their back story comes up it has to be specified Rのロイド・ロイド → “Roido Roido of R” and Lのロイド・ロイド → “Roido Roido of L.”

The Zombie (ザ・ゾンビ → Za Zon’bi)

死者 = “The Deceased“/”A Casualty“

Weirdly there’s no real word play here. And Japanese has a LOT of words for dead bodies: 骸, 遺骸, 遺体, 死体, 死骸, 死人, 屍, 躯, 惨死体, and others...

and there’s even the word 生ける屍, which specifically means “Living Corpse”

Also no apparently nods to Kubo’s original serial manga, Zombie Powder, which seems a missed opportunity given how often he’d salvaged bits and pieces of that work in Bleach. (Gremmy Thoumeux’s outfit is reminicent of Ranewater Calder’s original appearance, and Robert Accutrone is just one of several C.T.Smith clones Kubo has running around Bleach.)

The ς: The Sigma (シグマ → Shiguma)

聖傷 = 聖 → “Holy”/”Divine”/”Saint” and 傷 → “Injury”/”Scar”/”Wound”

Another one by Narita for the same short story as the above.

Funny enough he botched this one up because the word he was looking for in English is “Stigma” which generally refers to a mark of shame or disgrace put upon a person by social conventions, but also more classically refers to Catholic belief in otherwise unexplained marks matching the placement of the wounds from the crucifixion left on the palms and feet of christ that appear on devout Christians as a kind of sign from god. It’s taken from the Greek Stigmata(plural of stigma) στίγματα → “Marks”/”Spots”/”Brands.”

“Sigma” is just the Greek letter Σσ (ς final form) which has nothing to do with the word stigma. The fact that Narita appeared to use ς instead of Σ (which would make more sense given the formatting of the rest of the Schrift) might have been a deliberate play on the term “Final form” used to denote that ς is only used when sigma is the final letter of a word.(and not upper case)
