You walked over into a private corner and sat down motioning for Jack to sit beside you. He sat down and you could feel his energy right away. “I want today to be a good day” you spoke sternly. “I do too, I wouldn’t argue with you at the Kentucky derby. What kind of man do you take me for?” Jack had a way of making tense situations into a joke which in this instance you were relieved for.

“I want to start by telling you, I’m sorry” he put one hand on your knee and you put your hand on top of his and smiled. “It’s been a year Jack. I’m not angry with you now.” Jack raised an eyebrow at you “now.” You looked at him confused “Yeah? Now.”

“I never meant to make you angry in the first place Y/N. I want you to know that” he was making eye contact with you, which was always hard for you to handle. Eye contact always made things more intense. You wanted to cry but didn’t want to cause a scene.

“I know Jack. Believe me when I say, I don’t harbor any ill feelings toward you” you shrugged “I’ve already accepted the situation, and we are good.” You got up to leave, nodding at Jack to follow.

“When I first started working with Drama, I didn’t know what this business was going to be like. I was naive and you have to know that I would’ve never brought you along for the ride if I knew what I was in for.”

You took offense to that and scoffed, “good to know.”

“No, not like that” Jack was quick to recover.

“I was in love with you Y/N.” He swallowed hard, but still made eye contact with you so you could feel his sincerity.

You sat down next to him and listened to him while he continued.

“I didn’t know just how much personal image mattered when it came to all this rap shit. I didn’t think I was going to have to keep us a secret. I thought I’d be able to bring you along for the ride and you and I both know thats not what happened.”

You nodded, you felt slightly embarrassed because after all the time that had past you weren’t upset with Jack anymore, you finally understood why you were being kept a secret for so long but it was too late to backtrack so it was easier to avoid him.

Kit I rewatched Withnail and I the other day and I think everyone and their mum needs to watch it like. If you're into sad gay dark comedies then it is a must. 1987. Richard e grant. Paul McGann.
