Lolabee's 1 Year of Fic Celebration: 5th-7th April

I published my first fic in the fandom (Into the Fire - Joel Miller x reader) on April 6th 2023! This was probably the moment I fully committed to being part of the Pedro Pascal fandom and was a brave step for me in a) sharing writing after a long bout of writer’s block and anxiety and b) trying x reader for the first time and just writing for me again.

Since then, I’ve written a lot, made some wonderful friends and feel like I’m rebuilding my confidence again. It’s not been the easiest twelve months for me offline, there’s been some really stressful and difficult times, but this tumblr and writing has become a bit of an escape again and I love this community.

To mark this, I'd like to have a little celebration on my blog with all of you lovely people.

Sarah!! I've finished it!! I sort of included both of them, just a little. without further ado:

I get nervous when I'm happy

“You don’t have to do this alone,” Buck says, tangling his fingers with Eddie’s on top of the bedspread and running his thumb over the curve of Eddie’s palm. It should be soothing, not make Eddie’s nerves jitter around even more. “I can go with you. Drop Chris off at Bobby and Athena’s on the way to the airport.”

“Honestly, it might not even go badly,” Eddie says. “Hell, maybe they’ll be those parents who are like ‘oh you’re gay? Well that explains shit’ or they’ll be the ones who are like ‘you know I thought something was up’ or they’ll…y’know. Disown me.”

Buck squeezes his hand and snuggles in a little closer on this bed that’s been theirs for just over six months now.

“You really, really don’t have to go by yourself,” Buck says.

“No, I know, I just — if it does go bad, I don’t want you to have to listen to whatever they say,” Eddie replies.

“Okay, but consider,” Buck says. “That I am absolutely just stupid in love with you and if there’s even a small chance that this will go poorly, I want to be right there next to you holding your hand.”

“More than you want to be here making Bobby’s coffee cake recipe so that if it goes well you’re already positioned as the perfect son-in-law?” Eddie asks.

Buck grins and Eddie can’t help but smile reflexively. “You know this is why we work so well as a couple. I make breakfast, you make dinner.”

“We just gotta teach Chris how to make lunch,” Eddie says. “With a little instruction, I bet that kid could make a mean sandwich.”

“Peanut butter and potato chip,” Buck replies and Eddie groans. Buck snickers and then kisses him on the cheek. “You’re sure you want to go alone?”

ooh that's a tough one… i don't know, i don't think i've ever encountered a character i didn't like writing, because then i wouldn't even get the idea to write them, you know what i mean? i've written from the pov of characters i didn't like before, and that didn't stop me from enjoying the writing process anyway. i would probably see it more as a challenge than something i wouldn't enjoy... because, like, i wouldn't feel guilty about trashing a character i don't like even through their own pov, yk? might actually be quite cathartic x)

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

Ok so you remember this little baby:

Well, the first bullet point is already completed. But look what I started at 1 am before I went "wtf am I doing?" and went back to sleep.

(Ugh, I should've cropped this better before I put this here 😣 ) Anyway, Coronation chapter, yaaaaaay!!! This one is gonna be so fun I am looking forward to see how this will come out. I know you guys missed my beautiful friendship moments with Bowser and Peach, so that'll be there. If you remember my "Finding the Balance" fic you know I kinda touched upon Peach and Toadsworth relationship shifting a bit as they transition from that father/daughter to advisor/ruler dynamic so to speak so a little bit of that in there. I feel like the second point can also relate to all the other toads as well seeing as they all had a hand in raising her and now she's going to be the one over them now. I think I have her age here set around 16-17 ish and it's that struggle of being seen as someone they can trust and taken seriously despite her age vs how they still maybe see her. I'm leaning towards making her give this cringy speech during the process, which is where this screenshot is surely leading. Gotta remember this is where her and Bowser's alliance is officialized. I'm gonna do my best to make it really good for you all 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾☺️☺️☺️.

54. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

When it's done 🤭. I feel like I've written what I've wanted to the best I can, and it's another thing done . It's ready to be shared on the internet, and I love that for me. Also, I'm able to go indulge and treat myself to other fun activities for a while.

67. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?

For now definitely independent ideas and those formed from conversing as you (Spocky) really would know (AO3 comments between me and Spocky 👌🏾). I feel like I would do so good with prompts if I tried them but there's also a little part in my brain that's like....no 🤣. When I think of the prompts I see here and people sending them, I'm like "Ok if I did this, what if it's not what they were expecting it to be 🤔 and they just don't like it" or something along those lines... it might sound crazy but that's just how I think about it and heck It's already a challenge to make my own stories how I want them to be. Oh and if the prompt/challenge is combined with a deadline to submit...ugh that's something else 😳

However, Buck exists as plenty of other things as well, including but not limited to: a vessel for the boundless energy of a pre-walkies puppy, and a paragon of clumsiness as soon as the laser-focused work blinders come off. This, in combination with the aforementioned freakish length of his legs, means accidents like this morning’s are not as few and far between as Eddie would like them to be.

Honestly, I think reading. (Especially if we count rereading your own work XD) But seriously, there are just SO MANY GOOD FICS!! And sometimes my brain goes "MUST READ ALL OF THEM" and I get stuck reading and rereading.

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

OMG! So many!!!!!! Like a ridiculous number. Some are just snippets of scenes with no other context (Reggie punching Caleb in the jaw, or Reggie somehow winnning strip poker) some of them are simply vibes (Interstellar by LeBrock is begging to be a fic but I don't know what kind) but most of my ideas I save as prompts/or potential future prompt fill ideas. Some of those include:

???/Reggie :??? will never forget the day they met, it was one of the worst days of their life. Reggie will always remember the day they met, it was one of the best days of his life.

Soulmate AU: The world turns into a literal game of hot or cold. The more recently your soulmate touches something the warmer it is. One day the refrigerated soda Julie handed over to Reggie feels like it just came out of an oven.

"Right. Which one of you have it?" Reggie demanded as soon as he spotted Flynn and Julie sitting at the kitchen island. 

They turned their beautifully beguiling doe eyes to him, the homework spread out in front of them readily forgotten. "Have what?" Julie asked, barely managing to prevent her voice from doing that high pitched climb it always did when she lied.

"No, don't do that." He pointed between the two of them and their too innocent smiles. "That's not going to work this time."

He squinted when Flynn tried to disguise a giggle as a cough. The gears were already shifting in their heads and he could see that telepathic link of theirs firing up. Too bad for them he was bound and determined to not lose his resolve today. It'd been two days now and he'd be damned if he let this go past a third. "Where is my jacket?"

“Ok, I’ll give it back, I just have to find it first.” Julie said 

“You have to find it?” Reggie squinted at her, trying to figure out her logic. Julie simply nodded with what she must have assumed would be a disarming smile, not offering any assistance or insight into what was happening in her mind. “Where–? Why–? It’s a leather jacket, you can’t exactly lose it in the wash. How could you have lost it?”

“I haven’t lost it.”

While Tabitha was musing this, she noticed Shatterstar having a hard time choosing between staring up at the cameras and the actual food isles. He stood wide-eyed, almost in shock.

“Shatty? Hey, you in there?” Tabitha said, stepping in front of him and pretending to knock on a door.

He responded finally, though kept his eyes trained at the round cameras mounted to the ceiling. “Is all this here to just… take?”

“Huh?”

“We are welcome here? To take all this food?”

“Well, yeah. Did they not have grocery stores where you’re from or something?”

“None that I have ever seen.”

What kind of world had gladiator pits or shit but not grocery stores? “Where’d you get your food from, then?” Tabitha asked, realizing that she’d need to prompt him for any actual details.

“Before joining the Cadre Alliance, required nutrients for continued survival were delivered by Managers when deemed appropriate. Afterwards, it was a matter of what was won and kept hidden,” he explained, stony faced. “It seems… unwise… to keep such a valuable resource in such an unsecure place, open for all to enter.”

Hearing him recite all this like he was reading from a manual left Tabitha’s mind to drift back to her life not all that long ago. There she was again, scrambling to pick up the loose change from her can kicked over by a passing suit man. There she was again, spending a night in jail cell because at least it was better than out in the rain.
