I talked about my Milgram actors theory earlier, but @amugoffandoms reminded me I also have a little emotional support au version of the idea I’ve been meaning to chat about! It's actually not a typical actors au -- the canon events still happen, but are staged by the in-universe Milgram organization.
(Edit, now with a fic!)
Just like in canon, the organization has a mysterious/supernatural ability to identify and track down ten specific people at their breaking point. In this au, though, it's ten people who could have committed crimes soon. They discreetly reach out to these individuals, requesting for them to be actors in their experiment. They say there will be someone playing a prison guard, and explain the premise. With a bit of coaxing or bribing for a few, they all accept.
Milgram ensures these newfound “prisoners” don’t need to change many details about their lives – the less lies to keep track of, the easier it would be for these ordinary people to pull off such an extensive con.
Some of them are exactly as they were right before their murders, such as Yuno, Fuuta, Muu, and Kotoko. Haruka, his sister, and Amane did go through traumatic abuse, but it was Milgram that pulled them out of the situation before they resorted to murder. Mikoto is/has been aware of his alters for a while at this point.
Some of the others are taken from their lives after things that could have ended fatally turned out alright: Shidou’s family got into an accident but all recovered; Milgram picked up on his private realization that he would have done anything to save them, were the damage worse. Mahiru and Kazui’s partners attempted/considered suicide, but did not succeed. In Mahiru’s case, they reached a friendship despite breaking up. I still don’t know enough about Kazui’s wife, but I like to think they’re pretty separate now.
The ten prisoners weren’t allowed to meet beforehand, but they individually collaborated with the Milgram team to write the lyrics for their t1 songs and film their videos. I'll mention more about the other actors later, but the filming process is a lot of fun. Though the topics confront them with some unsavory thoughts about themselves, it's a good time singing and acting and getting the giggles on set and everything.
Milgram pulls Es from wherever they were for whatever reason, wipes their memory, and drops them into the prison. The prisoners are unaware that Es didn't come willingly, as they all did.
Once the experiment begins, everyone’s interactions that we’ve seen to this point are genuine. The prisoners get to know each other, while they come to terms with the fact that themselves and these others all had murderous potential. Their personalities, behaviors, and stories from their lives are all true. In the interrogations, they speak honestly to Es about their values and choices. The only faked things are the actual references to the murders, and the “invisible force” that they pretend to hit when acting in violence. Mikoto is instructed to use a bit of violence during his interrogation, though Kotoko sneaking in wasn’t scripted – she genuinely had her concerns about his character and acted accordingly.
While Es sleeps after T1, the prisoners are treated the same regardless of verdict. They provide the team with their genuine thoughts about one another to decide what the staged incidents should be. Kotoko doesn’t actually hate the guilty prisoners, but she recognizes she would’ve wanted to take justice into her own hands in a real situation. Amane is very upset but Es' verdict, but the team helps her dramatize her transformation a bit. Haruka and Muu genuinely get that close. Yuno does wish to be left alone.
They film their second trial videos, now allowed to be around the other prisoners as they do so. They also invite people in their life to come in and play their victims. Yes, it’s just as awkward as it sounds. This is where the prisoners do their real reflection – they think about Es’ verdict for them and what they could have been capable of. There’s a bit of relief from both parties knowing that things will turn out alright now that Milgram intervened (ironic, I know, but this is my fix-it hehe). Shidou’s kids are excited to be filmed, not really understanding the context. Haruka once again works with an actor playing his younger self, a bit put off by how similar they look and the memories he bring back. Haruka’s mother, Rei, and Amane’s cult members (if they appear) are some of the only characters played by strangers, though they do look strikingly similar to the real people. Fuuta’s victim is also played by a stranger. Things are still tense with Hinako, but she agrees to appear.
The team helps the prisoners fake injuries with lots bandages and slings. Then they wake Es. The same is repeated for T2/T3.
Now, I’ve played out a few different paths depending on my angst tolerance at the moment – sometimes Es goes through with the third trial verdicts and is forced to watch the executions (not realizing they're cleverly staged). Sometimes they refuse, finding a way to stop the whole experiment. Sometimes the prisoners realize that Es has been an unwilling participant, and bring the experiment to a stop themselves. Sometimes someone jams a wrench in the mv machine and try to blow it up in order for everything to end before final verdicts.
Because of limited details, the ending can play out however one wants. But my go-to is that Es wake up sometime afterwards in a clean facility filled with scientists. They’re brought to an interrogation room – this time on the other side of the questioning. They’re asked about their motivations, actions, emotions, choices, verdicts (or the reason they rebelled at the very end). A few doors down, the prisoners are being asked similar questions of self-reflection and morality.
Es demands to know what’s going on, while the team tries to assure them that the prisoners are all fine. Es doesn’t buy this, though. They know what kind of mind games the experiment has tried to pull, and can’t tell what’s truth or lie anymore. Things get heated as they demand to see the prisoners. Meanwhile, the prisoners are getting worked up asking about Es. If they haven't already, this is when they learn that Es was an actual prisoner there the whole time. The last time they were together the situation was very intense, and they’re all incredibly worried about them.
In the end, they manage to break out of their rooms and reunite in the middle of the facility, and Es is shocked. All ten are alive and well, even those they may have seen die. No eyes or limbs are missing. They’re all laughing and getting along, no matter what kinds of fights they got into between trials. Even more shocking is when the victims join them later – also all alive and happy.
The ending has a bit of unavoidable angst since Es would be pretty fucked up by the whole experiment. They’d struggle with trust issues and knowing what’s reality. However, it’s still an overwhelmingly happy ending. They get to befriend the prisoners and their families outside of the painful context they met in. Regretting their ignorance of the situation, the prisoners decide to make up for lost time and spend a lot of positive, quality time with Es. The kids are finally allowed to play, and the they finally let the adults act a bit protective over them. This is when the found family completely kicks in lol. Es gets to sleep easy knowing they are all alive and happy, they receive all their memories again, and they get to return home to their own family.
I added it to a reblog but editing with @/qrevo's tags because this is what I was looking for but couldn't quite pin down to make it healing for Es too:

I started playing snowbound blood thanks to your recommendation. The mystery novel aspect so far sucks ass (derogatory) (it's not a mystery novel. the mystery is set dressing) and the worldbuilding also sucks ass (complimentary) (everything sucks so much in this planet and i think i haev couvid) and I am slowly getting hints that secily should maybe be on therapy.
Snowbound Blood is a tragedy at its core. In hindsight, emphasizing the mystery elements might have been our bad - this is a character-focused visual novel, and the mystery elements can fall to the wayside in favor of... well. Everything sucks, the world is dying, and the more you play the more the many, many ways in which this world fucking sucks will become evident.
You're going to love meeting Secily's therapist, we think.

Warning: Sandman Spoilers.
(I’d plop a Read More here except I can never remember how to do that in mobile, mobile is much friendlier in layout to how my brain functions than the full web-on-computer will ever be, and Readmores flatout break my ability to edit, say, tags after I hit that Post button.)

Right. Okay.
…I think what irritates me about the Endless Siblings?
Delirium Can Do No Wrong Because She Baby (which is true. We dunno what shit happened to her that forced her to shift from Delight to Delirium, but we know it was BAD) even when she torments mortals for her Games (just less maliciously than Desire and Despair; it’s debatable if she’s fully Aware of the consequence of what she’s doing), even when Delirium’s (understandable!) demand to have Destruction back actively kills people!
Or Destruction—who LEFT and almost demands the others to leave as well despite Not All Of Them CAN Leave (and to be frank? Him abandoning his post despite having Creation as his counter-domain is probably why, say, warfare became SO destructive SO rapidly followed by a technological boom)—and literally planted what might as well have been BOMBS in his closest friends if any of his siblings tried to find him.
Or Desire—who fucks around and NEVER has to find out. Who actively targets Dream and blames Dream for their bad relationship with their older brother…and never takes any accountability for their own part in it and continued active antagonism and actively trying to DESTROY Dream either by spilling family blood and igniting the Kindly Ones’ Wrath and using Dream’s Own Function against him…or by risking Dream shifting into something Not Dream Any Longer. (And the absolute Irony of Desire being the one (1) sibling to EVER help, then gets pissed off and antagonizes further. Gee, Desire. I wonder why Dream doesn’t ask and if he asks you he asks you last!)
Or Despair. Who plays games beyond her function, and this aspect of Despair seemingly ignoring her counter-function of Hope, and is a co-conspirator albeit passive co-conspirator in Desire’s torment of Dream in much the same way as a pair of school-aged Mean Girls
Or Destiny. Who so rarely shows that he cares, uses his Book as a Defense Mechanism Excuse in a similar way as Dream does his Pride (and being prickly by-nature but most of his standoffish-ness is honestly a defense against Holding ALL Of Subconscious + His Family’s A Bunch Of Assholes (Too)). And if he does anything “outside his Book” or “finally acts within the Book” …he denies it’s because he cares. It’s to berate for showing up in jeans or someone else leaving their stuff in his room (even when someone else left it)
Or Death. Who had her own Edgelord Phase that lasted for eons before her younger siblings even existed. Who never once actually came to help yet berates Dream for not asking her when he wound up in Serious Trouble…again. (And not by his own fault, unless you want to count fixing a past mistake seriously draining him to the point he could he snared by Desire’s (and Despair’s but mostly Desire’s) Trap.)
…They’re ALL Assholes, Jared!
But only ONE of them is held to a standard none of the rest of them even bother to live to and gets actively punished for it at every turn, even when he tries to reach out, do better. (And yes, Morpheus!Dream has some serious fuckups. But. So do the rest of them. And he’s kinda the only one held accountable for them + some things that really aren’t his fault or are actively traumatic and he doesn’t really have a way to safely recover from without, y’know, affecting the Dreaming and all the dreamers! And it’s not for a lack of trying or continuing to try, despite his natural stubbornness, prickliness, introversion, and avoidance!)
#sandman spoilers#endless siblings#tiger’s roar#…possibly morpheus!dream apologica but fuck it#I was reflecting on WHY I’m so defensive of Dream and. well.#it’s kinda because of how my own family and school environment treated me#for being ‘an angry child’ or ‘back talking’ when. it was always defensive. I never started it. ever.#and. like Dream. what made the difference? people Actively Showing that they loved me and cared#that despite ‘not handling things as well as I should’ I still didn’t deserve THAT#and learning that having Bad Days with my mental health where everything ‘sets me off’ doesn’t make me a bad person#as long as I didn’t. y’know. take it out on anyone#I may be responsible for my own self#but others are responsible for not deliberately trying to hurt me or my trust or my boundaries#I Am Not Responsible for them choosing to hurt or disregard me!#…honestly I wish I could just take morpheus!dream#give him a hug (if he’d allow it). reassure him that being grouchy or depressed etc isn’t a bad thing. it just Is#let him Finally grieve and cry and rage in a place that WON’T flood or raze or affect everyone’s dreams#encourage him that it’s okay to grow and do better#(and fuck anyone who takes advantage of that and his sensitivity)#just. the guy needs therapy!! allowed to feel things without Instant Subconcious And Literal Consoquences!!#think there’s a term in family therapy for Dream: diagnosed problem.#(if I’m remembering Jono’s Terms in CinemaTherapy/MendedLight correctly)#and well. Even When! the Diagnosed Problem is ‘doing better’ things are STILL Fucked Up#because guess what! they weren’t the (only) problem at all!!#and well. him feeling things So Deeply and He DOES Care Actually (but clamping things down into a ‘resting bitch face’)?#WHAT A FUCKING MOOD.

I don't know what's happened in Miraculous Ladybug after the New York special but I have a feeling they took Gabriel and made him even worse so if they did I am simply ignoring that and deciding that he stops being a little punk, asks Ladybug for help with Emilie, apologizes to Adrien and becomes the father he needs him to be and also Nathalie is able to heal both physically and emotionally from the whole "assisting in terrorizing Paris because she's to smitten to say no" situation that happened.
#Gabriel and Nathalie were the primary reasons I ever started watching Miraculous#And I feel like Gabriel had SO much potential in being an iredeemable-but-redeemed-anyway villain#And I am a SUCKER for an antagonist who's done horrible awful things#feel immense remorse for their wrongdoing and trying to correct it#I just think that Gabriel should have been the first Miraculous villain#and after he is redeemed is able to prove his remorse by fighting against another even bigger baddie#Like I have this whole story idea basically#Gabriel asks for help with Emilie. Ladybug has a moment of weakness because she sees the pain he is expiriencing#the wish very specifically is meant to revive Emilie and make it so that Hawkmoth never existed#But Emilie is even more sinister than he ever was so he has to actually reverse the wish#And set the timeline back to normal and deal with the consequences of his actions#And someone else comes up out of the woodwork with a powerful miraculous after a couple months#You know give everyone some months to process everything. Get some therapy.#Then Ladybug realizes that if they are going to fight this villain they need not only all the miraculous users#But an adult with expirience battling and can actually maintain the whole suit-form thing for a good while#And who fits that bill but Gabriel Agreste#Badabing Badaboom he has an Opportunity to prove that he truly regrets what he did#Say what you will about Gabriel#Im just a sucker for a good redemption story and I think that Gabriel could have had one of the most delectable ones since Zuko's#give adrien a good dad dang it#merkerler speaks#miraculous ladybug

I do really like crowfeather admittedly I think he's fascinating in the way that he's awful like. mini essay or character study of some kind under the cut
he's in love with thunderclans medicine cat. and he knows, deep down that it won't work out. it can't ever work out, because she will always put her clan first. but he loves her. so much and so intensely - in part because he's projecting his first crush onto her. he never did get the chance to tell feathertail how he felt, and he was happier on that journey than he is now in windclan. but leafpool loves him back and for a moment they do it - they run away. for a day, it's perfect. everything he could ever want. for a day, there isn't windclan and there isn't thunderclan.
until there is, and she's gone, and he has nowhere else to go except back to windclan.
and we skip forward, and he never really got over leaf. he took another mate, in the hopes that he would love her - but he doesn't. even when she gives birth to their son - he doesn't. he can't stop thinking I wanted to have kits with leafpool, not you, and he neglects their son too. and it's not fair. and he knows it. but breezekit isn't just his kit. breezekit is the byproduct of this loveless marriage with a cat he can't stand. breezekit traps him in this clan he feels judged by. breezekit is everything that is wrong with his life.
and years down the line, he's getting used to this life. or at the very least, coming to terms with it. he doesn't think about leafpool as much as he used to. night knows he doesn't love her, and doesn't love their son, and they have some kind of truce. breezepelt is on the edge of something, but still desperate for his fathers attention.
and then the secret is revealed.
and he screams at leafpool, at their children, because what else can he do? because he took this mate he didn't care for, had this son he never wanted, all for the respect of this clan he never wanted to come back to, and it's all falling apart, and he and night and breeze all stick close together on the walk home, hissing at anyone who tries to talk to them because their family is a sham but it's a sham together.
and that night. crowfeather doesn't sleep. can't sleep. as reality sinks in. his kits. his kits with leafpool. leafpools kits. and he's angrier than ever at this miserable life that went so, so wrong. he could've had a family with leafpool. he could've taken them in, raised them without her but known that they were hers. he could've followed her to thunderclan anyway, and raised them there, even if they couldn't have the exact relationship they wanted. they could've run away together, and raised them far away from here. and it tears at him. makes him want to scream. what could've been and what was.
and when breezepelt approaches him, breezepelt on the brink of something dangerous (not that crowfeather knows) crowfeather doesn't even see breezepelt. he sees jayfeathers wiry frame, sees hollyleafs black fur, sees lionblazes angry yellow eyes.
breezepelt walks away from that conversation, mind made up, right into the paws of the demon.
and crowfeather is too busy thinking about the life he could've had with leafpool to even notice.

Who’s the most serious faculty member? Aside from Aizawa and vlad
File: NewsInterview_5579DS.vid-trscpt
Reporter: Who's the most serious faculty member on staff?
Nedzu: Ah. I see we are in the gossip segment of the interview.
Reporter: Every question can't only be just about heroics or rules. Your school has quite the colorful cast and I'm not talking about their costumes! You yourself are known for your sunny personality.
Nedzu: Are you sure you do not want to take a guess?
Reporter: I always thought it'd be Snipe but Kikuchi always says it has to be Vlad King and Kamei says it's Power Loader.
Nedzu: I see. There is one flaw with such assumptions.
Reporter: Oh?
Nedzu: Setting aside the fact that you are forgetting about individuals such as Cementoss, UA faculty as a whole are all serious. Or rather, they are serious when it comes to work and their chosen professions. Their actions 'off the clock' as it were are a myriad of ways to relieve stress as both heroes and teachers. Self-care is important!
Reporter: Are you implying they're all insane?
Nedzu: No more than I or you yourself. I am sure that you understand that both professions are known to accumulate stress. This can be managed and alleviated and given that they work at a high school for heroic education, they are expected to model acceptable self-care methods for the students even if they are less likely to perform it for themselves.

Therapy W was when I told my therapist about that absolutely ridiculous line Sofía says in the last episode about how "Nothing that's worth it is ever easy" and my therapist literally repeated the line in disbelief and said, "Wow, what a load of bullshit."

Thinking abt my dupes some more, and it's such a joy imagining them working together to try and invent new stuff for their needs with their limited resources, especially when it comes to the guys anywhere but the main colony where the only actual scientist lives lol
#rat rambles#oni posting#tbf there is a doctor on one of the other colonies so its a good thing mi-ma has her at least#just the crew all learning to genuinely create for the first time and being estatic as someone makes a toaster or smth for the first time#and then they realize they can fuck around with food too and chefs have to swat everyone away from the stove to hog the creative joys#meanwhile the diggers are just staring with big sad eyes at the engineers and burt begging them to upgrade their mining guns#they wanna have fun with new things too!!! please somehow invent a neutronium blaster that the poor sad diggers can have fun with#meanwhile burt is just sitting there experiencing The Horrors (digging through olivia's database)#well ok several dupes are going through their own personal horrors since theyve yet to reinvent therapy 😔#a good chunk of them are going through the horrors of their primary food source being raw lettus lol#hey this is future them I can imagine theyve been sent duskcaps and pufts and have managed to enjoy a wider diet#and that the main colony have been getting to leech off of the stuffed berries from their teleporter neighbors#the fourth colony I forgot abt when drawing the last drawing have been thriving off of grubberry pie for ages tho theyre living lavish#yes colonizing that planet was an ordeal since its the flipped asteroid but its ok because they survived#and by they I mostly mean quinn they were rly the only one who ever was at risk#just another near death experience to add to their list (most of them were radiation related lol)#that's what happens when you adamantly refuse to use athmo suits and proper radiation shielding while doing space travel#oh also lets imagine that they all eventually got propper spoms set up and cleaned up the hydrogen floating around literally everywhere#and that I fixed my power problems by using the natural gas vents that were very easily available to me#and lets also imagine they managed to set up proper cooling systems and disenfecting systems as well#anyways I need to go shower while I continue to think abt my lovely dupes

anyway two roads diverged in a yellow wood
either stay in this city, far from where i feel is home, but with a job and a boyfriend and financial security and a nice apartment, but also isolated from the life that i feel i want to be living
or drop everything again and move to the other city, the one I feel is home, leaving job and boyfriend here for a life that doesn't exist yet and maybe never will
