here’s a spread in my commonplace notebook! i’m currently using the a6/pocket size leuchtturm1917 dot grid notebook. i was using field notes but wasn’t a big fan of how small they are in terms of how many pages. i like a book that’s a little thicker, so i grabbed this book i had on my shelf for years and just never used and instantly loved this book. we will see how long this one lasts, i end up switching books super often. if you wanna see my other systems/journals let me know! ……i have…..too many books…. 🤧

Current Journal Lineup
Yellow Hobonichi Weeks Mega: general planning, meal planning, exercise and mood tracker, to-do lists.
Purple A6 Leuchtturm1917 Square/Grid: Food and blood sugar tracker. I also track my carbs and protein (related to blood sugar levels).
Green Large Moleskine Lined, Softcover: dear-diary type journaling, gratitude, memory keeping and some light junk-journaling.
Orange B5 Leuchtturm1917 dotted: Commonplace book.
I have no brand loyalty.

YOUR ART IS FUCKING AMAZING OH MY SHIT LIKE SENSAI TEACH ME???? (bonus question : what sketchbook and art program do you use cus this is an important question)
THANKYOUU!!! I'M GLAD YOU LIKE MY ART!! :DD (i recommend binge watching art tutorials on YouTube, and going outside, SOMETIMES, to draw from real life. That's what i do!)
To answer your questions!! Right now i use Photoshop for my digital art (but only because i got the program for free from my last school. I'm most likely going to switch to Clip Studio Paint once i can't use Adobe anymore)! The sketchbooks i use is called 'LEUCHTTURM1917' and it's A4 with lil dots, i just bought it cause it caught my eye :D it is more expensive than other sketchbooks but i kept buying it because it's actually pretty good, i think! ink doesn't bleed through to the next page and you can't see markers through either :0 even watercolors are alright to paint on it with, even though it's not really made for that (but the paper does get a bit.. waveyyy like, but that's it, i believe! Though, keep in mind, i don't draw with watercolors that often, it's my number 1 enemy)
BUT YES, these are the thingies i use :D Hopefully this answers your question!
Happy creating!! :D

personally I love stationary and pens and washi tape and sexy notebooks but honestly I’m not a super visual person so I never know how to even begin decorating or structuring a notebook other than boring page header/date/notes. Fancy bullet journaling with layouts and pictures imitates the hell out of me. yes I have a dot grid leuchtturm1917 for life admin stuff and yes it is plain and utilitarian as hell. Washi Tape? I don’t know her. Meanwhile I’m drafting an original fiction project by hand right now and it’s going great but I have found I have the most success using a boring blue pen I found at work and a dirt cheap yellow legal pad. There is nothing that unlocks my brain like a yellow legal pad. Nothing hand written is real to me unless it’s in blue ink. My sexy notebooks are sitting in drawers gathering dust while I go through a yellow legal pad every 2 weeks. It is only #aesthetic if your aesthetic is Boring Lawyer. oh well!

#hey here's a question: I am a diehard graph paper head a ride or die graph paper type of bitch. know of any good notebooks that come#in graph paper?
So, I know you say you're committed to graph paper, but just checking: have you given dot grids a fair shake? I actually used to be a graph-paper-only writer, but I eventually tried dot grids and now I hardly ever use anything else. This makes notebook searches a lot easier since basically everyone makes dot grid notebooks now.
But if you're committed to graph paper, I have a couple suggestions:
Rhodia is a classic and respected brand: they are reasonably cheap, and available in many places (you've almost certainly seen them at least one). The one caveat is that they have very sheen-y paper, which is effectively pen-only. I personally can't use them because I'm left-handed and find that my hands smudge the paper since it doesn't dry quickly, but other lefties don't seem to have this problem.
Midori's MD notebooks are one of my new favorites. I'm using one right now for my on-and-off category theory self-study. Also fairly inexpensive, the paper is high-quality and suitable for both pen and pencil, and I love these lay-flat bindings. The one caveat is, it's not quite graph paper: if you zoom in on the pages, you'll see a slight gap between the top of the vertical lines and the horizontal segments. But if this isn't a dealbreaker you for you, these are a great choice.
When I started writing this post, I didn't realize Leuchtturm1917 actually makes graph paper notebooks, but apparently they do! I haven't used their graph paper ones in particular, but of course I've used their other notebooks before and they are always a solid choice so I assume these are as well. Leuchtturm is essentially the non-shitty Moleskine. They're a bit pricier, but good quality and have creature comforts like a table of contents and numbered pages. I don't like their paper quite as much as the Midori and things from my other posts, but that's just me.

i have read your tags about why fountain pens are better and i agree. unfortunately i have not been using them because stuck with a bunch of moleskine notebooks (they were gifts) and the ink bleeds through the pages :( so i just wanted to ask what kind of notebooks do you use
I almost exclusively use Rhodia brand notebooks and notepads! All their paper is "fountain pen friendly" (i.e. no bleeding) and comes in a variety of different sizes (A4-A7), "types" (i.e. lined, graph, dotted, blank, etc.), bindings (glue, sewn, spiral, etc. in paper, soft, and hardcover), as well as two different paper colors (cream and white), so it's easy to find a notebook/notepad that suits whatever project I'm working on! (I'm also one of those people that keeps a daily journal, and for that I especially like the Rhodia goalbook [bc it has a printed index section and printed page numbers], although I am thinking about switching to a Leuchtturm1917 dot grid hardcover for my next journal [it also has printed page numbers]...)
I'm also partial to Clairefontaine brand notebooks (which don't have quite the same variety as Rhodia, but often come in more fun color/pattern combinations for their covers and have the same paper quality), as well as Fabriano brand notebooks/notepads (their EcoQua line is especially economical! And while it does have some "show through," I've never had any problems with bleed through.) If you're looking for a non-European brand, I highly recommend Midori (which does not have "fun covers" but does have truly excellent fountain pen friendly paper and a lot of variety of "types" (sketch, blank, dot grid, lined, etc.) as well as many fun "daily journal" type notebooks.
As far as specific paper types go I am extremely partial to loose leaf Tomoe River paper, which is onion-skin thin but has absolutely no bleed through and hardly any show through for its thinness. I love it for letter writing because it is lightweight and so silky smooth. It also really lets fountain pen ink show off its shading and coloration.
Because I live the USA, my preferred online fountain pen & ink and fountain pen friendly paper shop is JetPens.com, which I truly cannot recommend highly enough for their immense selection and thorough testing and information!!
Thanks for asking :)
(also: I really feel you with the Moleskine plight -- their paper quality really went downhill about 5-10 years ago when they started exclusively manufacturing overseas :( they're otherwise such fun little notebooks)

Notebook Review: Leuchtturm1917 Hardcover A5, Metallic Edition
Back in January when I went on a bit of a notebook binge, I picked up a Leuchtturm 1917 Hardcover Notebook Metallic Edition (A5 size, dot grid, $26.00). Honestly the notebook was just plain pretty. And, to my knowledge, I haven’t ever tried a Leuchtturm notebook. The Leuchtturm 1917 Metallic is a hardcover notebook in A5 size available in Gold, Silver or Copper. I opted for silver. The cover is…

hello! would you mind sharing the name of the dotted sketchbook that you use? i've been looking for a new one for a while now, and the one you use seems to hold up to watercolor very well, which I am definitely interested in! also I just want to say how much I love your art,, you have such a unique style and your use of color is so perfect,, and the way you draw villaneve aaaaaaahh <3333 it always brightens my day, thank you so much for sharing your work 🙏🙏
hello! it’s a dotted leuchtturm1917 in the size a5 :) it holds watercolor to a certain degree but the paper is pretty thin so you can’t layer it too much… if you can, try to look for the ones with 120g paper! i think they come dotted as well :)
thank you so much anon <333
(i’m using two sketchbooks at the moment, the other is an a5 midori md notebook!)

Why is finding a decent Pocket jounal in size roughly 3.5 x 5.5 inches with AT LEAST 128 pages, a dot grid, thats not spiral bound and with NO NUMBERED PAGES so hard???
I swear to gracious the Leuchtturm1917 A6 Pocket Classic would be STELLAR but they insist on numbering the pages!!! WHO NUMBERS THE PAGES OF A PERSONAL JOURNAL???
Well I mean I do, but i very specifically number only ever other page so each sheet is one day (idk if i explained this right but when you open it and lay it flat you are looking at a day and that 1 day is numbered)
But L1917 numbers EVERY PAGE! so instead of getting to use their otherwise perfect journal, here I am, endlessly searching for a journal that matches my specs that is in a fun color (not required, just nice, i am sick of my Tru Red black leather...)

A natural colour-dotted notebook can be a wonderful canvas for inspired writing. Each page of a natural colour-dotted notebook is illustrated with a soft dot grid, delivering structure without setting boundaries. It is made from eco-conscious materials, which is a testament to reliable craftsmanship.
