Updated Masterlist of Writing and Art

About the writer/artist: I like to write and paint. My current obsession is Sandman, but I enjoy most fantasy fandoms as well as anime (I think I’m on season seven billion of One Piece right now 🤣). I'm also weird as they come (and awkward, too), so just please ignore my oddball (coughTERRIBLEcough) sense of humor.

On a more personal note, I have PTSD and suffer from severe manic depressive episodes. Writing and art are my most familiar coping mechanisms, and I need them like I need oxygen. Seriously, there were times in my life that knowing I had to finish a story or a piece of art was the only thing stopping me from ending up dead. So, I don't take part in fandom drama. Having my peace and protecting my mental health are very big deals to me, and I won't risk those for anything if I can help it.

As for my writing, it ranges from short one-shots to ridiculously long novel series. I use third person POV (on longer series) as well as second person (on shorter things). I also try to always exclude physical descriptions when writing main character OCs and assign them nicknames to avoid using Y/N. I love to read Y/N fics, but writing them makes me feel like I'm at work. And who actually wants to ever feel like they're at work when they're engaging in a hobby? Definitely not me.

Lastly, there's usually more stuff on my AO3 page than I have listed here, because I forget to post it pretty often. Oops. I'll get around to moving it all over one day. Probably. Maybe.

Morpheus hates the holidays.

As excited as she seems to experience the mortal holiday, he's… less so. Much less so. With the entire collective unconscious contained within him, this time of year can be wholly overwhelming, a miasma of too much red and green, too much worry, too much loneliness, too much excitement, too many similarly themed dreams, too many similarly themed nightmares, and far far too many holiday songs. It all bleeds out from the collective unconscious into his own mind, sticks there like weeping sap to a tree until he feels half-mad with the unrelenting presence of it, with his inability to get free from its cloying trespass upon his very being.

This is just a little sweet fluff for the holiday season. It takes place between chapters 19 and 20 of "All the Precious and Fragile Things". No spoilers here if you've read that far!

That Familiar Feeling of Family (or how Hob Gadling ended up as an uncle to his stranger's oftentimes feral children)

It's a pretty universally known thing that families are just strange. As Hob is quickly figuring out, however, this little fact is magnified by AT LEAST a billion when the family in question is Endless.

(A lighthearted story in which Hob Gadling finds out his stranger has married, makes friends with a homicidal maniac/ruler, and manages to become an exemplary uncle to a pack of magically mischievous children. Really, now all he has to do is convince everyone to stop calling his and Dream's weekly meetups "playdates", and then his life would be practically perfect.)

Meanwhile in the peace of the Dreaming, Morpheus grapples with guilt over his son's fate. As he basks in the love of his new children, he can't help but to regret his own failings where Orpheus is concerned.

And as for May, she's really just got a job to do. And her own traumatic issues to deal with. And if it's all hella awkward because she's having to work alongside her husband's ex-wife, she'll see it done anyway. There's even the small possibility that she might eventually admit to Calliope the truth about her identity. That is if she can ever actually work up the courage to say it aloud.

The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.

My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love! This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgement—is one not yet fully formed in love.

We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first. If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.”

“Verse Commentary: This short verse offers profound words. People do not wake up one day and decide to love (Romans 3:10). God is love, created love, and loved us first. John's summary of verses 17 and 18 also serves as a reminder. We are not to take credit for the love we have and show to others. God loved us, before we were capable of loving Him, and we can only love others because of what He has done in our lives.

As verses 20 and 21 will add, this love is not merely a mutual affection between us and God. It must also include love for others. Acting out of love is not exclusive to God in this context, but consists of loving both God and other people. This is the Great Commandment which involves loving God fully and loving neighbor as yourself. This teaching is also based upon the ancient Shema, or the Saying, from Deuteronomy 6:4–5: "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Verse Context: First John 4:11–19 is the backbone of John's letter. The primary way Christians are to be recognized is by love. This is not merely what we feel, but what we do for others. True, godly love is the most powerful evidence of being ''born again'' as a child of God. This love comes from God, who loved us before we loved Him. When we live in obedience to God, according to love, we can be confident in our relationship with Him, and have no need to fear His judgement.” Amen! 🙌

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY

1647 – John Wilmot , 2nd Earl of Rochester (d.1680), English libertine, friend of King Charles II, and writer of much satirical and bawdy poetry was the toast of the Restoration court and a patron of the arts.

If you've never read the poetry of Rochester, run, don't walk, to the nearest library and, after leafing through the pages, order a copy of your very own. He is easy to read, witty, very funny, and delightfully obscene. He's also proof positive that the world didn't begin with Queen Victoria, his age being almost as unzipped as he.

Rochester was an incomparably dissolute rake whose sexual philosophy was clearly "any port in a storm." Consequently his poetry extols the joys of every possible type of human coupling. One poem, possibly unique in the language, is about two men entering a woman fore and aft, but obviously making love to each other.

Other poems are about the pleasures of boys:

"If by chance then I wake, hot- headed and drunk, What coyle do I make for the loss of my Punck? I storm and I roar, and I fall in a rage, And missing my Whore, I bugger my Page."

Rochester was once banished from the court of Charles II for smashing the king's clocks and dials when they refused to answer his drunken question, "Dost thou fuck?" He was like that; he was also burned out at age 33. The film The Libertine, based on Stephen Jeffreys' play, was shown at the 2004 Toronto Film Festival and was released in the UK on November 25, 2005. While taking some artistic liberties, it chronicles Rochester's life, with Johnny Depp as Rochester, Samantha Morton as Elizabeth Barry, John Malkovich as King Charles II, and Rosamund Pike as Elizabeth Malet.

1801 – Nikolai Gogol was born in the Ukraine to small-time nobility (d.1852).

Between the ages of twelve and nineteen, Gogol stayed at an all-male boarding school in the town of Nezhin. There, he began to write prose and poetry for the school's literary journal, had great success in school theatricals, especially in the parts of comical old women, and formed a sentimental attachment to his older fellow student, Gerasim Vysotsky.

Vysotsky graduated two years before Gogol and departed for St. Petersburg. During the two years Gogol had to wait for his own graduation, he yearned to join his friend and wrote him a series of amorous letters. But their reunion in 1828, when Gogol, too, moved to St. Petersburg came to naught—the first instance of Gogol's later infatuations with heterosexual men unable to respond.

In St Petersburg he taught and wrote a number of short stories set in St Petersburg and Ukrainian folk-tales, and began to enjoy sporadic success as a writer. In 1836 he produced the satirical farce The Inspector General in 1836, which caused much controversy and he fled to Rome.

In Italy, Gogol's inhibitions were loosened to the point where he allowed himself to love openly a young nobleman, Iosif Vielhorsky. It was a reciprocated love, but the young Iosif died of consumption less than a year after he and Gogol met.

Two years later, Gogol became hopelessly infatuated with the poet Nikolai Yazykov, whose verse was mostly about women's beauty and his attraction to it. After trying for months to win Yazykov and addressing passionate letters to him, Gogol understood the futility of this undertaking.

He spent 5 years in Germany and Italy and produced the first volume of his best known work, Dead Souls. Seeking a spiritual regeneration to match that of his main character and continue the novel, he subjected himself to a strict regime of prayer and fasting, but only succeeded in nervous collapse and burnt his work.

He spent the next seven years attempting to continue the novel, but became even more influenced by Orthodox Christianity, fell under the influence of a priest named Father Matthew Konstantinovski, who viewed his literary work - and his confessed homosexuality - as an abomination and prescribed abstinence from food and sleep to cleanse his 'inner filth'. Gogol again burnt his work and, despite the efforts of his friends, died of starvation. He was 43.

His work was a major influence on Dostoevsky and later, 20th Century Russian authors. Complex and original, his work, which uses elements of the fantastic and grotesque, social realism and humour, is permeated by his repressed homosexuality, especially in the fear of marriage that is a constant theme throughout.

1970 – The Arizona Supreme Court rules that masturbation of another person violates the "lewd or lascivious conduct" law.

1971 – Staff Sergeant Eric Alva, born today, was the first U.S. military service member injured in the Iraq Occupation. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1990 at the age of 19. He was in charge of 11 Marines in a supply unit when, on March 21, 2003, he stepped on a land mine, losing his right leg.

Alva, a native of San Antonio, Texas, grew up in a military family. He graduated from high school in 1989, weighing just 90 pounds. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1990 at the age of 19 when he already knew he was gay and the U.S. military excluded all gays and lesbians from service, open or not. He served for 13 years, including postings in Okinawa and Somalia. For much of his career, he was out to his fellow Marines.

On July 23, 2008, Alva testified about DADT before a subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. He said: "Unit cohesion is essential. What my experience proves, they are wrong about how to achieve it. My being gay and even many of my colleagues knowing about it didn't damage unit cohesion. They put their lives in my hands, and when I was injured, they risked their lives to save mine." He described intimate living conditions while stationed in Somalia. He also reported conversations with military personnel from other countries in which they uniformly expressed surprise that "our Nation is so further behind others when we seem to be the forefront of trying to be the example."

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, General Peter Pace said, "I believe homosexual acts between individuals are immoral." Alva commented: "His remarks were insensitive and disrespectful to the thousands of men and women who are serving in the military at this current time under the policy." In December 2010, Marine Corps commandant Gen. James F. Amos said the presence of homosexuals in the marines would pose a "distraction" and that "I don't want to have any Marines that I'm visiting at Bethesda [National Naval Medical Center] with no legs be the result of any type of distraction." Alva commented: "He pretty much spit on me, my Purple Heart, and my 13 years of service. I would definitely ask Amos for a meeting to explain his comments, and I’d bring my Purple Heart with me."

He worked with Democratic representative Martin Meehan of Massachusetts and, with a bipartisan group of representatives to Capitol Hill, reintroduced the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, legislation that would repeal the Pentagon's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy regarding homosexual conduct. Of this, he said: "We're losing probably thousands of men and women that are skilled at certain types of jobs, from air traffic controllers to linguists, because of this broken policy." Alva also served as the Grand Marshall of the 2008 Chicago Gay and Lesbian Pride parade held on Sunday, June 29, 2008.

1971 – The French newspaper Tout calls for complete sexual liberation in France. Police seize the publication calling it an "outrage to public morals."

1978 – A new Canadian Immigration Act goes into effect which removes the prohibition against gays and lesbians from entering the country.

1993 – Andy Brennan is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a winger or striker for South Melbourne.

In May 2019, Brennan came out as gay, becoming the first openly gay Australian male footballer.

Brennan joined the Newcastle Jets on 29 April 2015 from National Premier League side South Melbourne, signing a two-year deal. Due largely to ongoing injury problems, Brennan was forced to wait until 26 March 2016 to make his A-League debut against Perth Glory, replacing Mitch Cooper in a 2–1 loss. Brennan went on to make a total of three appearances in his maiden A-League season, all off the substitutes' bench.

On 19 January 2017, it was announced that Brennan had parted with the Jets by mutual consent. He made a total of five A-league appearances during his time with the Jets. He then returned to Bentleigh Greens SC in the Victorian Premier League. In November 2018, Brennan signed with Green Gully of the NPL Victoria League.

In an interview with the Herald Sun, Brennan came out as gay after being closeted for several months. He had previously dated women, but had been unsure of his sexuality for years, stating that it had been a "mental burden". Brennan is the first male Australian footballer to come out as gay, and one of only a few openly gay players playing professionally.

TODAY'S GAY WISDOM:

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day, though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1 and a date of some significance in queer history.

The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fool's errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. In some countries, April Fools' jokes (also called April Fools) are only made before noon on April 1st. April Fool's is second only to Halloween for queer history.

For LGBT people, the Fool, the Jester, the Joker/Jokester, the buffoon, the juglar, the trickster, the heckler, the scaramouche, the clown, or the harlequin are specific archetypes in same-sex history. All are traditionally linked with same-sex-oriented people: The Fool was a type of entertainer that came into popularity in the Middle Ages. Jesters typically wore brightly colored clothing in a motley (as the harlequin) pattern and his role was to speak truth to power and puncture the vain egos of leaders.

The Jester was a symbolic twin of the king. Like "in-betweens," all jesters and fools were thought of as special cases whom God had touched with a childlike madness—a gift, or perhaps a curse. Mentally handicapped people sometimes found employment by capering and behaving in an amusing way. In the harsh world of medieval Europe, people who might not be able to survive any other way thus found a social niche.

Jesters have long been featured on playing cards. Their hats, sometimes called the cap 'n bells, cockscomb or coxcomb, were especially distinctive; made of cloth, they were floppy with three points each of which had a jingle bell at the end. The three points of the hat represent the ass's ears and tail worn by jesters in earlier times. Other things distinctive about the jester were his incessant laughter and his mock scepter, known as a bauble or maharoof.

Clown society is a term used in anthropology and sociology for an organization of comedic entertainers (Heyoka or "clowns") who have a formalized role in a culture or society. Many clown societies have sacred roles, to represent a trickster or coyote character in religious ceremonies. Other times the purpose served by members of a clown society is only to parody excessive seriousness, or to deflate pomposity.

In the sense of how clowns serve their culture: A clown shows what is wrong with the way things are. A clown shows how to do ordinary things the wrong way. A clown makes fun of the serious, lightens the moment. A clown "speaks truth to power."

Members of a clown society always dress in some kind of a special costume reserved for clowns, which is usually an absurdly extreme form of normal dress. The sacred clown and his apparently antisocial behavior is condoned in some Indian ceremonies. While in their costume, clowns have special permission from their society to parody or criticize defective aspects of their own culture. They are always required to be funny. In the case of the "jester" at the English Royal Court with his cap of bells and pig's bladder stick he was allowed to make fun of, be indelicate and sometimes downright rude to members of the royal family and their entourage without fear of reprisal.

Clown societies usually train new members to become clowns. The training normally takes place by an apprentice system, although there may be some rote schooling as well. Sometimes the training is improvisational comedy, but usually a clown society trains members in well known forms of costume, pantomime, song, dance, and common visual gags. Occasionally these include a scripted performance, or skit, which is part of a standard repertoire that "never gets old," and is expected by members of the culture that the clown society is part of.

Another well known image of the Trickster/Fool is the flute-playing fool. What is not so commonly known is that the flute-player, in his older forms was, in fact, self-fellating, not playing a flute.

Finally, modern queer culture, of course, has developed the traditions of drag and genderfuck that is a continuation of this archetypical social role.

basically its a scale rating for how good/bad morally each of them are (for my own amusement lajksklfj). it'd go smth like:

1 = goodest bestest squiggly v lovely would help others in need

5 = p neutral tbh literally vibing

10 = the worst the baddest they are in the naughty corner they cause problems on purpose lkJALKSFj

this is a p horrendous scale and v verse-dependent and situational and there's much more to their moral compass than this but. anyway:

allan is p firmly a 6 when he first starts out in hw, post-sharlayan banishment! he's v much the type to look out for himself and bc of his past experiences he does have a bit of a predisposition towards being a baddie (like, during sharlayan stuff he'd be a 3-4 ;; he was Nicer but... yeah lkajskf). obvsly he can change but he still tends to hold the ideal of 'to achieve something, one must do whatever they must', even when he begins skewing towards a good alignment T__T there's a lot more nuance to this but i will shut up here before i keep rambling lJLKASJF.

asclepius is a Good Bean... how did allan stray so far... LJASKLFJ he's v much a 1 on the scale hhhhh. while he does tend to hermit a lot and go off on his own/keep to himself, he will absolutely help ppl in need ;; he's a true healer, one of the best back in ancient times (though not very many knew about it), and if he ever came across ppl needing help in his travels or whenever he came back to amaurot, he'd absolutely do what he could to solve their problems! even better if they required a healer bc he's there and done and dusted lkjalksfj. however, due to his visions, he kinda gets a bit more hopeless so he tends to give up easier since his visions have mostly come true thus far. so like... if there's any situation where he neglects, its not bc he's bad, its bc he thinks he can't rlly do shit lkjaslkfj.

selene is... heh. like, u wouldn't be able to guess it initially, but she's... weirdly a skew of 4-6. she has no more family, no close friends, she's vibing on her own if she doesn't have someone to truly care for. she loves eulmore, but after realizing how shitty it truly is, she's v much in an 'idgaf' mood lkjalksfj so she ends up looking out for herself. she can be a good person... but she can also be a bad person if u kno what i mean LKJLAKJSF

mahalina... my bby... my angel. she's also such a Good Bean at a 1. even if she faces a lot of pressure from her mother, she's v much someone who will actively help people if she hears even a whiff about it. like... she is bitter about being 'forced' to be perfect, but that's only bc she's not allowed to be more like herself. when her brother disappeared, it was a catalyst to her becoming more like herself and standing up to her mother. she didn't want to be stuck in sharlayan, which chose to be neutral, she wanted to go out there and do some Good while searching for her brother, which is exactly what she did.

The only child of an only child, Yurie is the last hope of the Ogawa family and its hereditary position over the local shrine. She has been expected to help out at the shrine from a young age, in a variety of roles which have included cleaning, caretaking, conducting trade, and taking part in rituals. It is the hope of her grandparents that Yurie grow into a woman capable of taking on the old shrine and leading it into a new age of success.

That’s not all she is living up to, however. Coming from a long line of kannushi, holy figures who communed with the gods and -- within the context of fandom -- banished evil spirits through ‘miracles’, the Ogawa family found their spiritual power begin to wane in recent generations, producing only the more common shinsoku who spend their lives tending to the shrine and lack any spiritual power. For whatever reason, Yurie possessed and honed her great potential to become an ofuda-wielding miko, fighting against the wayward spirits that invaded K*rakura town.

Attends the same class as the main characters, though does not run in the same circles. On her own, Yurie is something of an off-putting, cunning figure who is not well-versed in the art of making friends. She tends to have a dark energy about her, and works constantly to get her peers to Visit The Shrine! She’s Not Asking Anymore! Cute but threatening is the best description for her.

Strange all on her own, as well. A firm lover of Western rock, likes to patrol town alone when she doesn’t have work at the shrine, and is devoted to making money and finding success in even the smallest endeavor.

Has potential to be the ‘my friends are my power’ creepy kid turned ally if people reach out to her. She’d be so thrilled to have a real friend for once, instead of the little spirits that are drawn to her due to her gehobako. She would absolutely give her all for them like a proper shonen hero, whether as companions in battle or trying to take care of them in their day to day life.

Seems to be an old hand at handling Hollows around town, using her ofuda and talismans to send them on their way. However, she’s a paper tiger when it comes to these things, as a later arc proves. It turns out she doesn’t purify Hollows as much as she does... send them home. Free to return someday and wreak more havoc. To overcome this oversight, she begins to train with @nxctividus‘s Ur*hara, and becomes a stronger fighter for it.

Speaking of, her Ofuda are her primary weapon. By infusing them with prayers or specifically written intent, she can manipulate terrain, bind enemies, and even make things go Boom! A properly bound enemy can then be banished (early arcs) or purified (later arcs.) Their drawback is that she has to be precise with their placement and they are a limited resource in terms of both paper and ink. In desperation, she supposes she could use plain linen and blood as alternatives, but she’s never faced a situation to put that theory into practice. As she gains power across arcs, she is able to summon and utilize more ofuda, doubling her chances of success while gaining better accuracy.

Her spiritual power is a conundrum to many. Her family are not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but certain supernatural interlopers are a little alarmed that a human has such abilities out of apparent nowhere. There are betting pools on who went rogue in the Human world and left behind more than they intended. The truth of the matter is that proximity to the protagonist since kindergarten basically cranked her latent potential up to eleven, and so her (potential) friend is truly her power.

Just wants to make friens and protect her local civilians.

Ombrage (Shadowfang) from the Wakfu Series.

1. This character will contain mind control, absorption, manipulation and overall pretty sadistic tendencies. Wakfu can get pretty dark at times, so while there will be humor and light-hearted things, expect that to occur with this character if that bothers you. I will not do that to your character without permission, but be warned that it’s extremely evil to feed her people unless, I suppose, they were also evil people considering what happens to them. They do not go to the afterlife, they’re absorbed into Ombrage to feed her power and cannot be recovered other than perhaps by her own will or otherwise if that’s even possible.

2. I will probably portray this character how I feel like considering how uncharacterized she is. She will be capable of joining the main group such as Rubilax, but far more brutal, dark and sinister. But it has shown in her lore on the wiki that she’s joined someone before, though it requires a great amount of power and will to make it work. Is it possible for her to become emotionally attached? Yes, actually, but it’s extremely rare as it was only with Armand-Louis’s life did I headcanon she finally became attached after some time spent with him. As she’s a rather ‘needy and demanding’ entity, but ultimately rather rewarding once you get her to like you... though do not plan to pass her onto your descendants, as she will only like you and only you once it is earned. Others have to earn it. It doesn’t matter who they are, they need to earn any amount of help or genuine affection from her for how she sees it.

3. Her powers will be based in-game and from the show. As it’s shown she’s actually extremely powerful apparently? At least in her unsealed form. Which I will still use my regular icons for, regardless of whether it is within the ring or not. It’s shown however, that her vain nature can coax her to cooperate if you mess with her hair, looks or otherwise enough such as Armand trapping a good portion of her hair in traps when she’d attack with it.

4. At Full power? She is best gauged as a demigod to near god, though not comparable to Rushu’s extreme brute force and immense fire power. I’d say she’s like a Lich, Succubus and a Shadow Demon combined. Which sounds like a lot? But in Wakfu that tends to be par the course considering the kind of power-scaling there is.

5. Despite being powerful as she is? When sealed in the Ring? She cannot use her full power without either tricking or bargaining with an ally. Though her more minor powers and abilities can be used by someone pure of heart. Someone truly evil is extremely weak to her influence and corruption for how her powers work.

6. While an inappropriate muse? She will be different around kids such as Yugo, so there’s no worries. Be warned that any ‘seducing’ from her unless she actually likes you? Is most likely from wanting to use you or absorb you.

7. She is a ‘demon’, Shushus from what I understand are basically demonic looking aliens. Anything used to combat ‘demons’ won’t work on her. You need things to combat ‘Shushus’ which are what her species are.

Physical Changes: there are no real changes to her body other than I’ve simply extended her cloth to cover her junk more.

Do I want them to die: She can be killed, defeated or banished, she can’t really die normally. Ombrage would have to be killed in a specific to fully die. I am leaning toward ‘no’ to winning overall unless planned, as her winning involves a lot of complications coming into play if she is free to her own devices. I will make her more interactable in less willing to murder other people however if people want to interact with ‘freed’ Ombrage. Will I have/get icons: Yes, I do, I will be using Kuroko Koumori as a faceclaim partially to make up for the lack of icons however, as there isn’t much art/canon content of her as of yet in the show. Expect a possible update eventually to her. Tag: shady ring (In Ring Verse) | ombrage unleashed (Freed, Uninhibited Freedom Verse) ombrage bonded (Bonded Ombrage or Ombrage for her own reasons? Is behaving, most likely a default verse for interactions unless we plot prior) Age: An Adult of her Species but is Ageless. Sex: AMAB Gender: She is considered ‘Fem’ identifying, though would be considered trans female by human standards. It simply isn’t a thing that matters in their society for how their diverse, numerous, and bizarre anatomy works in tandem with each other. Considering all of her species goes by he/him, I will say her subset of Shushu also uses he/him along with she/her. Fine with a lot of terms. Race: Shushu (She’s a demonic-looking alien, though could be considered a demon, I just don’t label her as such as holy weapons or otherwise that normally work on demons, don’t work on her as well) Sexuality: Any consenting Adult she’s willing to ravage if they’re her ‘type’. Personality traits: Sadistic, Masochistic, Evil, Cruel, Monstrous in what she’s willing to do. Loves Torture. Loves Emotionally Manipulating or Beating People down. Can be humorous however considering the series. Selfish. Incredibly Loyal once earned. Can be twistedly loving in a dark sense if she cares for you. Loves to toy with her victims. Loves to absorb and consume other beings. Is open to being directed if she bonds with someone ‘good’. Is incredibly vain and beauty-centric. Extremely Bratty to the point of where it’s near comical. Is capable of being sentimental, but in a way ‘you’re an idiot for doing that, don’t do that, you’ll die’. She humorously lies or makes stuff up a lot. Mental traits: Has the mentality of a Shushu, but has proven as with Rubilax and the others at times? To have relatable, somewhat human ideals, though still inhuman in them. Physical traits: Other than the visual image above? She has no real differing characteristics other than her extended loincloth. It is important to note that she is around 9 foot tall based on her in-game size compared to the players. Then I will say her other form is a more twisted and demented looking Shadow Demon-Looking Form. Though it is also important to note that she has a tongue that slides through her glowing vents on her mouth. To indicate she talks? They raise and lower and glow as her words are spoken, there’s a bit of an intoxicating reverb to them as she’s naturally appealing and a seducer. This does not work on minors however, so I’d rather not have that be a thing. She is a curious being. She seeks entertainment constantly, so she’s willing to explore or experiment. She is rather chaotic in her flights of fancy. Powers: Keep in mind that it’s hard to gauge what is god-like as Dally was able to have his arm cut off and he was considered a ‘god’. It’s a much looser term in Wakfu as I imagine Rubilax could be considered a ‘god’ as well. It’s just to what degree as there’s seeming limits to everything in this universe. If we’re going to have armed conflict or fights, let’s discuss if it’s muse vs muse rather than muses vs canon fodder npcs or some kind of threat as that’s something disposable. Not all lore and headcanons are gonna line up, but if it’s clear you cannot confide in her canon? I will suggest something else.

God-Like Demonic Summoning: she can summon demonic creatures under her control with ease and without limit other than the time in-between. Keep in mind that these are basically Animals of her world, so they will not be affected by holy weaponry.

God-Like Fire Magic: if in a certain radius of her? She can burn you with flames without fail and can manipulate them or shoot fireballs, etc.

God-Like Shadow Manipulation: she can attack and manipulate shadows at a speed that’s considered a blur, she can traverse shadows and control them at the same speed as well. She could probably have someone’s own shadow attack them on that note.

Extreme Necromancy: she can convert living beings into Ghouls or turn them into forms of sentient Undead if she favors them. This includes Vampires, Wights, or Liches or otherwise. She can generally only do this power if the target is willing or has a form of sin to their heart. So while strong? I only call it extreme as she is only skilled in creation for Necromancy, nothing else to the magical tree. Theoretically, she could revive someone potentially. Be warned, however, she can have the target in question under her control, even unknown to them.

Extreme Illusions and Enchantments: she is capable of manipulating the minds of others to appeal to their greatest desires to have them let her in.

Mind Control: she can control the minds of those with sin in their hearts but unable to mind control those incapable of sin such as an animal without sentience. Or someone that is pure of heart. When under her control? She can absorb them to use their flesh as her new vessel to rapidly mutate into her old looks. However, they have to resemble her old frame... Although partially out of pride, I am changing this to make sense why she doesn’t just take a temporary body for herself to be as powerful. This is irreversible however, as once absorbed? Ombrage devours their soul and body to fuel her reincarnation and to add to her own power.

The Ability to Duplicate Herself: I think this might be her shadow powers at work to a degree? But she can duplicate herself to make an exact copy of herself with all her powers.

The Ability to Teleport and Float: walking is beneath her other than for short distances, expect her to always fly or teleport to move, dodge or otherwise.

Inhuman Anatomy: she has no real organs, so stabbing her in the brain, heart areas or otherwise have no real effect on her other than damaging her.

Supernatural Reflexes, Senses, and Regeneration: she can react to blur-like speeds and sense them as well, then can regenerate rapidly as a Shushu, this tends to be just an in general power for standard strong Shushus.

Supernatural Strength: someone like Rubilax would outpower her in terms of strength, but she could probably throw a car at you/weight equivalent.

Supernatural Endurance: she can take a beating, only Shushus higher up than her on the chain of command can probably endure more unless it’s a God-Like being like Dally or otherwise who would be near or on par.

Tireless, needs no body maintenance: She doesn’t need to eat, sleep or drink or breathe and cannot tire.

Soul Devouring: she can eat the souls of her victims when fully freed without having them wear the ring. It doesn’t matter what type of being they are.

Soul Empowerment: she grows stronger from being fed souls and people. Be aware that feeding her souls is nearly irreversible. Though she could potentially hide someone by temporarily absorbing them.

Shadow Stealing: she can steal the shadows or implied souls of corrupt people to turn them into Undead. This is something she can simply do, however she could probably enslave undead creatures with this if they have a soul or shadow.

True Immortal: killing her only sends her back to her dimension. She needs a few days to be able to resurface as the Ring, but it’s probably less dangerous to simply contain her, rather than outright destroy her. As she will come back uninhibited not too shortly afterward.

In Ring Powers Only: these powers are accessible by those who are maintaining control over her and the battle of not giving into her vices: the ability to steal shadows, though it does not feed her souls, but can control evil beings to the person’s will. Levitation, increased speed, strength, and endurance. Then moderate shadow manipulation and dodging or attacking with it. With bonding: Ombrage can aid you as needed but can never be truly absorbed into you like Rubilax or possess you without harming you or is incompatible due to her weird or bizarre latent energies. Ombrage could potentially be forced to possess the character by the character’s will, but it would absorb and kill the character in question, to which she would probably be really annoyed and possibly mad as she needs you to grow stronger, potentially to be freed when bonded with more limited freedom or if she likes you, as she doesn’t want to eat the people she likes. And if you were incompatible to begin with in terms of frame? Her form would disperse and probably only make her angrier because she’d be without a Guardian to feed her and take care of her needs, but also probably ate her best friend by their own stupidity. It is this way since? Well, she can’t really undo it, so yeah, don’t try to force a possession to tap into her true powers for her own, you have to find her a suitable host and have her use those powers to aid you. She will use a shadow version of herself to aid you when bonded without a host.

Motivations: to cause destruction, to cause as much pain as possible to beings for her own amusement. To be pampered and cared for, to be fed. Backstory: Ombrage like many other Shushus was born and created for one purpose: to destroy. To create chaos among the worlds and enjoy every moment of it. Though at times, there are some things she wishes to explore, but ultimately does not indulge other than privately. Shushus have a strict code to Rushu, but in some sense while she likes Rushu, she wonders at times what it would be like with him dead or no longer a factor into her own actions.

The Gospel for today is a practical solution to the problem of fear, worry and doubt. Jesus gave this comforting message the night before His death. He was leaving His disciples a farewell Gift. Not a huge bank account or a sprawling real estate in the city center. But PEACE!

Jesus calls this Gift "My Peace." This is true because Scripture calls Jesus "our Peace." He is also the Prince of Peace. We are talking here about perfect peace. First let us see what the Peace of Christ is not. It is not Pax Romana, the peace imposed on a conquered nation by force by the conqueror. It is not the peace of a welfare state. It is not the peace you feel if you are in good health, the kids are behaving and your 401K is fantastic.

The peace that Jesus bequeaths to Christians is His own peace. Peace in the midst of crisis because you know who your Security is. The world does not know this peace and cannot know it until they bend their knees to Jesus. This peace is supreme remedy for fears, worries and doubts.

The most perfect health, marriage, finance, job, tools goes through its periods of trial and uncertainty. The aftermath of these Times and Seasons is a growing confidence that God is always in control. His mighty, merciful and mysterious Providence is working out all things for our good.

The Peace of Christ is real. It is for us Christians. Claim it. It banishes fear.

emotions had gotten the better of her. still torn up over rick’s stupid decision. HOW COULD HE DO THAT TO HER? how could he kick her out without even TALKING with the council? he’d given up that role as leader and left it to the group as a whole. NOW he decides to take back the reins? it had her frustrated, even two days later. wasn’t easy being on your own after living your ENTIRE LIFE dependent on someone else. she was a survivor now, FULLY CAPABLE of making it in this world. it’s just… did she really want to ALONE? those thoughts and the tears that followed had distracted her from her surroundings, enough to miss the signs of OTHER LIFE. but a gun clicking behind her sobers her up, and she doesn’t even have to look back to know that its pointed RIGHT AT HER. ❝ i don’t have anything. ❞ spoken quietly as arms raise in surrender. she will not turn around, for she doesn’t want to risk being SHOT IN THE FACE.

So My Blood Au is just Me dumping all the cool stuff i can think of into a DP what if Vlad is Good ^For Starter MB Vlad or Vladimir Jude Masters is a Paranormal investigater/ hunter/exocist in a sense. He seemingly Perfect in People eye, Not Really on the inside as he have many problem stem from living so long and going though alots of thing that he prefer not to talk about that he hide from People , go so far as to adjust his own emotion to what he find fit to the situration making him really hard to read. (Not Jack and Danielle, those are close enough 2 peel him like an onion if they sense something off). -Vlad And Danny are not same kind of Halfa in this AU, Vlad is Two soul (Half Blue Demon Vampire Ghost, Half Human twisted together and blend into one) and Danny is Soul within soul (Going though the accident give him two identical soul that over lapped each other) -Ghost are nerf and ecto beam and ecto Base attack can harm ghost but they can't harm Physical thing in living world Unless they are infuse with Core element same with Human entering Purgatory. -The world have 5 Realm: LivingWorld, Purgatory (GhostZone), Elsewhereness, Fairy Land and Unworld. +Going with the idea that originaly Vlad is supposed to be a vampire and many ghost in the series feel like they are more supernature creature then Ghost. Let's talk some more realistic expectations on "But can Jensen be Batman in GK?" because. Technically. Everybody's right. But everybody's wrong.

I've been telling people for a few weeks at this point, on twitter, not to hang their hat on it. To clown, because it's possible, but recognize there's a honky red nose involved.

DC canon is. Sloppy. Like, I love it. But it's a mess. This is my mess. Kind of like the drawer I shove all my random shit in. I love that shit. But god damn, is it a mess.

So for example. Titanverse is not the same as all HBO verses. the Cartoons can be assigned to miscellaneous continuities depending which one you're talking about when. Arrowverse is its own thing. Gotham Knights, while airing on the CW, is not actually Arrowverse, despite also being Berlanti.

Do you already have a headache? Good! It's gonna get worse.

See, back when Batwoman was first pitched at the CW, Pedowitz was like, no, we have no intention of actively including Batman in Batwoman. The TLDR is because The Batman was in development at the time, and it was considered a conflict of interest. Because, well, a major Batman Centric IP was being delivered. There's some caveats of Batman, Actually* in Arrowverse below but they're. spotty.

This is similar to why people generally assume Jason being held back from Gotham Knights is indicative of a Red Hood project for Jensen. Or back how Arrowverse killed off all the Suicide Squad characters back when SS was being developed.

Basically, once someone licks an idea for it to be a titular character in a major project, that character is suddenly banished from other universes while the project is in development and generally relevant.

At the same time, Batman did kind of. Pop up. In other ways in Arrowverse. Someone pretending to be him. His suits, his legacies. Bruce namedropped, on a magazine cover. Like he's there. But wiggling out active use was just. A mess.

On the other hand, even before Superman & Lois became a thing on CW, Superman cropped up in Arrowverse with permission. Why? because the major stuff had passed through Nov 2017 into early 2018 for the hype to not kick Justice League in the dick.

In fact, Crisis on Infinite Earths 2, 3, 4, 5 (2019) and Elseworlds Part 1 (2018) literally just. used him. Why okay then? Because the last big Batman movie had aired in 2017. In 2019 Superman's only movie bit was a cameo at the end by a stunt dude in a blink or you'll miss it thing, and then sure this year there was the director's cut of justice league, but that's. Back to just the 2017 project. Same movie, put back out, director's cut.

So suddenly, it was okay for CW to use Superman, as a character, once there weren't actual titular projects around him and, once he really got pulled into the TV verse, ironically the movie verse had to be a lot more reserved in how they used him. Before that, he had "unseen" roles in Supergirl, or mentions. A hallucination event. And a few VERY limited moments in season 2 of supergirl like. Yes he showed up but I can promise you they had to wrestle for that right and ensure how limited they'd keep his actual presence -- I believe it was 4 eps in late 2016/early 2017. From there. Mentions and pictures through the next two seasons. Then the next year was when CoIE went down, a few flashbacks before that. The game was on again where they could use it. By that 2019 period.

Justice League itself was also touchy to freeze all use of Superman on because it was first announced in 2007. TEN YEARS before it. Script and development purgatory hit again and again. Delays, options, circular treatment, reannouncements in 2014, and round and round and round we went. It got picked up for pre prod early 2016, and finally got to actually. like. filming second quarter of 2016. And by then Supergirl was like. Already on track for itself. But then Superman was yeeted back into oblivion on CW for a few years until Justice League had been milked of its worth, then boom. Crisis on Infinite Earths. Superman & Lois. ANd so on. Releasing the Snyder cut is just wringing extra money out of the same successful release, so it's not really a conflict.

This is all a very long example of "How and when can a product make use of a major DC character".

So while there's a theoretic Red Hood project, there's a freeze on use of Jason Todd to avoid conflicts of interest. But that freeze won't be eternal, once that project runs its course.

Animated bits, for example, run in a different time period. Even while The Batman was in development, Batman was ALL OVER in cartoons from 2017 to current. Like. Justice League, DC Super Heroes, the Lego ones, the weird scooby doo one, teen titans go. Death of Superman (to further fuck your heads up with the superman fuckery above), Reign of the supermen, another Justice League one. The weird Batman vs TMNT. Red Son. More justice League. Injustice. Right now the Super Pets thing has Keanu Reeves voice batman. because why not

And that doesn't even account for shit like. The web series or truly bizarre one offs like the general lego movies, or the batmobile in Ready Player One. Or the Space Jam cameo???????

So LIKE???

CAN Batman show up in Gotham? ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE.

The likelihood is increased right now with ZERO titular Batman works in development. There's the announced Penguin Spinoff. There's the GCPD one. There's whatever Red Hood shit Jensen's sitting on. But Batman, 100%, could have like. A death scene. Or flashbacks. Or recordings left behind. Or other shit like that as cameos that cement him into the world better.

That's not to say "LET'S ALL BET ON JENSEN GETTING A BATMAN CAMEO", again. But while the licensing and rights are COMPLICATED, it's not a hard no. It's not the same universe as Arrowverse. It's not any of that. It's a world of its own, being rendered when there's no Titular live action Batman pieces in development, in which case it's comparably easy to make use of, as opposed to them having to try to slapfight for Suicide Squad characters when there's a movie for it coming out. Batman already coming like. Pre-installed Dead even has a "limited use" argument they could pull, as in, like, not even actively engaging this universe as much as there as a symbol, similar to the random pics of Superman/Clark Kent spewed around Supergirl. Or the hallucinations. And, yes, a few episodes he did in fact show up in, before they even made their own Superman show.

Can it happen? Yes. Hang your hat on it? No. Are people MASSIVELY oversimplifying this in an attempt to give a resolute answer or a false clarity? Absolutely.

even if you ascribe Christie or Conroy as the Bruce Wayne face in Arrowverse. Gotham Knights isn't arrowverse. so we go back to headhurty again. because then we're back to "period they were allowed to use Superman a little they got to use Bruce A Little but then Batman got his own movie so he disappeared again but they got to keep using Superman, basically. but by the time GK is airing or Batwoman wrapping they can probably use batman again that's more than a hazy flashback with no real actor or Alternate Douche Wayne."

Friendship is Magic Power Level Tier List (Part 1)

I decided to do another tier list but this time it’s based on MLP and Power Levels, since I’ve watched MLP and Equestria Girls from start to finish, this took me a good hour or two thinking about where characters should be placed. I’m going explain my reasonings from the shows and the comics. So I’m going to list each characters major feat or their feat of magic over the course of the shows and films. So let’s get started.

1. Equestria Girls (Strongest to Weakest)

So for Equestria Girls I decided to give it’s own category because it would be too confusing to stack up with the others in Friendship is Magic, so I created a mini tier list.

1. Strongest: Humane 7 (Rainbow Rocks)

In Rainbow Rocks, the Mane 7 were able to create a giant spiritual looking alicorn that was able to defeat the Dazzlings (who were empowered by the magic of Humane 5 which also empowered Daydream Shimmer) and the magic of the seven consists of the Mane 5, a princess from Equestria, and a former unicorn. All the other empowered girls would be defeated easily. Easily the strongest form of friendship magic in the Equestria Girls verse.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Strongest Finisher Tier (Above the Legion of Doom Defeat)

2. Midnight Sparkle (Friendship Games)

Midnight Sparkle, is without a doubt the strongest she-demon of the Equestria Girls verse and I would honestly consider her one of the most powerful villians in the G4 franchise. Her magical abilities consists of energy blasts and creating rifts and cracks to other dimensions. She’s empowered by the fused magic of the Mane 6 and although, defeated by Daydream Shimmer (who was empowered by the magic of the Mane 5), if not for Spike distracting her, she would’ve won against her. In Legend of Everfree, she wasn’t even defeated just waiting in Twilight’s mind and almost took control of her which if she would’ve succeeded, she would make Gloriosa look like a puppy while Midnight is wolf.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Either Alicorn Level (Above Daybreaker) or Spirit Level based on her dimension breaking abilities (maybe above Chaos Pinkie)

3. The Dazzlings (Climax of Rainbow Rocks)

The Dazzlings (empowered by Mane 5′s magic and the negative energy that’s they’ve stored up to the climax) were able to defeat the Mane 6 (who were able to defeat Demon Shimmer), and were only defeated because Sunset Shimmer helping them. Princess Twilight even admitted they needed her help. They’re able to summon their true siren forms that were dangerous on their own in Equestria. They were so dangerous that they had to be banished to the human world and even then, they were able to use magic to feed on negative energy. In their empowered forms, they were able to hypnotize the entire audience (in the novel it expanded to the entire town). Adagio refers to the Mane 5 empowering them their “true power” which in Shadow Play, their powers remain the same except that they can blast red magical blasts from their mouths.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Level (above Gusty the Great)

4. Daydream Shimmer (Friendship Games)

Daydream Shimmer (empowered by the Mane 5′s magic in the climax) was only able to defeat Midnight Sparkle due to Spike distracting her. Her power set includes closing Midnight’s dimensional rifts, and energy blasts. Even when the two were evenly matched, Daydream’s accumulated magic was instant, while Midnight’s magic was built up over the course of the Games. And despite the Dazzlings having the same power, the same rules apply (and I checked):

Daydream’s magic was accumulated for a 2 minutes

Midnight’s magic was accumulated throughout the events of the Friendship Games from when Twilight’s amulet absorbed Rarity’s magic to her unleashing it and turning into Midnight Sparkle

Even the Dazzling’s magic was accumulated from when they got to Canterlot High, to the Battle of the Bands, and the climax.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Level (Above Daybreaker)

5. Human 6 (Equestria Girls)

The Human 6 used the true power of the Element of Magic to transform into pony hybrids and defeated Demon Shimmer who was also empowered by the Element of Magic but lost her power. With this power they were able to depower Sunset and turn her, Snips, and Snails back into humans and snap the entirety of Canterlot High out of Sunset’s control. They don’t need the physical crown of the Element of Magic to complete this.

Friendship is Magic Tier List: Strongest Finishers (equal to the Mane 6 defeating Nightmare Moon...considering it’s the same scene)

6. Demon Shimmer (Equestria Girls)

Demon Shimmer is empowered by the Element of Magic and her power set includes levitation, fire balls, hypnosis and turning people into demons, and her size. Her powers were stripped from her by the Mane 6 by showing the magic of friendship.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Level (above Bewitching Bell Chrysalis but below Empowered Love Chrysalis)

7. Crystal Guardians (Legend of Everfree)

The Crystal Guardians got their new powers from the geodes that Gloriosa found in the cave. Each of the geodes gives the girls new abilities:

Twilight: Levitation/Telekinesis

Rainbow: Super Speed

Applejack: Super Strength

Fluttershy: Talking to animals

Rarity: Diamond Shields and Barriers (the only one who actually got their powers expanded on)

Sunset: Empathetic Powers

They use these forms to get rid of the brambles that Gloriosa Everfree created after Twilight took the geodes from her. If they don’t have their geodes they can’t access this power at all.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Strongest Finisher (below the Young Six)

Hypothetically, if the Mane 7 had experience with their magic as ponies

Sci- Twi: Magical Tier (below Trixie)

Applejack: High Tier: (below Equestrian Applejack)

Rainbow: High Tier: (below Equestrian Rainbow)

Rarity: Magical Tier: (above Sunset)

Pinkie: High Tier: (below Equestrian Pinkie)

Fluttershy: High Tier (below Equestrian Fluttershy)

Sunset: Magical Tier

8. Gloriosa Everfree (Legend of Everfree)

Gloriosa with the power of the geodes gives her the ability to control nature. Her power sources is the geodes around her neck. She originally started out with 5 geodes but with 7 she turned into a she-demon and barricaded Camp Everfree within a nearly indestructible vines. The Mane 5 with their individual powers weren’t able to destroy the brambles without them regrowing. Twilight got the closest and even her pulling them apart, they still grew back. Her weakness is the same as the Mane 7′s: if the geodes are taken from her, she instantly gets depowered.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: High Level (below Unicorn Twilight)

9. The Dazzlings (Base Form)

The Dazzlings in their regular human forms are dangerous, in the first scene alone they went to a diner and fed on the negative energy of people who were in the diner. Once they got to Canterlot High, they fed on the negativity of Canterlot High and had the student body under their spell, except for the Mane 5 and Sunset and they kept feeding throughout the movie because of their gems. In Equestria, they were powerful enough that they were banished to another dimension that stripped them of their magic.

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Tier (above Gusty the Great)

For the sake of the human characters with magic devices or artifacts, for the Friendshp is Magic Tier, I’m going rank based on if they had those powers as ponies so:

Human Twilight: Unicorn with power absorption

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Level (above 3rd level Tirek)

Wallflower: Earth Pony with memory stealing magic

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Alicorn Level (above first level Tirek)

Gloriosa: Earth Pony with nature magic...this actually makes the most sense

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: High Level (on par with Equestrian Fluttershy)

Base Juniper: Earth Pony with dimensional magic

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: High Level (below Unicorn Twilight)

Vignette: Earth Pony with teleportation magic

Friendship is Magic Tier Level: Magical (above Trixie)

And that’s it for Part 1. In conclusion as far as Equestria Girls goes, the strongest finisher in Equestria Girls is The Mane 7 in the climax of Rainbow Rocks, the strongest individual in terms of overall magic is Midnight Sparkle, the weakest is Vignette, and the weakest finisher is The Human 7 with they “defeated” Gloriosa. But Part 2 I think I’m just going to do the Magical Tier so that’ll be a bit short since the high tier is longer and Tumblr only allows a certain amount of pictures.

(Mostly) Destiel Fic Recs #5

This is a LONG recs post because it’s been a while since I did an update and I fell hard into reading one author’s work (DeanRH). In fact I could easily do a rec post just of their fics alone, but for this round I’m just going to pick out a handful of my absolute favorites so far, the ones I’d recommend to start out with, along with more other authors’ works I’ve especially enjoyed lately.

Absolution at the Five-and-Dime by DeanRH (125k) - this is perhaps THEE DeanRH fic to start with if you want a good, long read with a little bit of everything (Roadtrips! Intriguing casefic! Americana! Tasty Dean/Cas pining! Wing!kink and unique angel lore! Kinky soul fisting and tentacles!) It’s kind of two of parallel stories in one: the first, a flashback to Dean and Sam's first year hunting on their own (as well as trying to avoid hunting, and John in general); the second on how Dean and Cas finally get together during an unusual case and when Dean is able to really let go of his past trauma and accept himself/accept love from Cas.

What I love about DeanRH’s work is that they write from the unique point of view of a drifter, so they understand living on the road, traveling place to place, and the highs and lows of that life like no others I’ve encountered in SPN before. (The author’s notes are often as much fun to read as the stories themselves). They also write a kickass angel!Cas and never lose sight of his non-human traits and background. Their writing style is unique - almost poetic in nature, and I know some readers have found it difficult to get into. But it works really well for me in their SPN fic...gives it the flavor of oral story telling as might actually happen at a drifter’s camp (with one story written exactly as such). Be warned this particular fic does play up the idea of John Winchester being mentally abusive and Dean having to turn tricks when he was younger in order to support him and Sam, so there is some dark stuff. But as someone who grew up with mentally abusive parent, reading this was extremely cathartic to me and believably written (unlike some stories that go too over the top with abusive John, or just don't understand how that kind of abuse leaves lifetime psychological scars.)

Carnevale by DeanRH (18k) - Actually the first fic by this author I read, because I just couldn’t resist a story set in my favorite place in the world, Venice, Italy. Castiel is the Angel of Venice, banished there for so long he does not even know or remember the reasons why. But Carnevale season is the one time a year he can let his wings out - figuratively and literally. And during this particular Carnevale season, he meets an intriguing masked young American tourist there with his brother and their one night stand turns into something far more powerful than either expected. This one’s hot, romantic, and achingly sad at the end as it all ties together unexpectedly with canon-verse...though with a hint for the future so it’s definitely not totally sad. I loved how DeanRH clearly understands Venice as a fellow lover of the city, the side of it most tourists never see unless they spend a long time there. This story made me cry just from wanting to be back in Venice again.

Ice cream was sweeter, food more satisfying, everything was an epicurean delight. There was just something magical about Venice, and he had lived here in the city for hundreds of years, so the shine should have worn off by now.

But it didn't, and there was always something more, something wonderful to discover around the next corner. The painted eaves of a church. The beauty of two women dancing with flowers in their teeth across the Piazza San Marco one day, overcome by the sheer joy of just being there. The way the university students still created Venetian masks, like Castiel's extravagant volto mask and Dean's humble servetta muta, with crafts that had been handed down across the generations. The morning silence that lay against the stones.

Hard Landing by DeanRH (26.9k) - A bit similar in theme to Carnevale. A pre-series Dean and Sam are sight-seeing in Spain when an angel, struck by a babel-spell, crash lands right in front of Dean. A strange yet seriously hot encounter with the angel turns into something much more complicated when the brothers return home and realize something more serious is afoot and they are both trapped in the middle of it. This is another story where things are very much not as they seem at first (as fun as that is!) It features master strategist Cas at his best, with a side helping of delightful trickery care of Gabriel and Balthazar as they deal with Lucifer, Michael...and a few others along the way.

The Sacred Band of Thebes by DeanRH (14.5k) - The last DeanRH fic I’m gonna allow myself to include in this round up, because it’s just very soft and sweet and beautiful - for a story about Dean & Cas being magically transported back in time to ancient Sparta! This is another story infused with a great knowledge of place and history, with some wonderfully delightful original characters added in that make it all the more enjoyable to read.

And now on to some other authors, I promise!

IPAMIS OL OLPRIT by emmbrancsxx0 (56k). A really wonderful fic that take a different look at what might have happened with a temporarily resurrected John Winchester during Season 14. Dean & Cas are in an established relationship here, and John here isn’t too happy about it — though mostly because he sees Cas (and Jack) as monsters, the kind of monsters he spent his lifetime hunting. This is a great fic for the emotional complexity of how John, Dean and Cas are all handled. John isn’t a cardboard evil dad, Dean is struggling between his loyalty to his father and to Cas, and Cas is increasingly bitchy/frustrated at Dean still being so desperate for his father’s approval (and all the more complex for not just being a quietly suffering perfect supporting boyfriend.) There’s some great action sequences in this too along with the emotional angst and a delicious dose of hurt!Cas if that’s your thing (as it is for me :D)

Abrenuntio by Neonbat (51k). A very dark but compelling AU take on the/a apocalypse universe. Dean, Sam and John are all alive in this post-angel war-apocalyptic world. They are part of a group of human survivors fighting against the angel army when they manage to capture “Blue” — a particularly feared angel of death. Dean is tasked with bringing Blue in for interrogation and he becomes a prisoner in their camp after John is killed. As mentioned, this is a pretty dark/sad fic (with some rather gruesome torture scenes) but I still found it quite compelling as a look at how things could have gone in some other parallel universe. And somehow the author manages to make the Dean/Cas relationship come together despite them starting out as complete enemies. This is one of those AUs that works for me because the core of the characters really shine through despite the differences in the setting.

if it all fell to pieces tomorrow by spocklee (37k) - a gorgeous post-Empty rescue fic that takes an approach I haven’t really seen explored in detail before (despite being something I’ve actually thought about as something that could’ve happened.) What if Cas has spent so long denying himself happiness, and then trapped in regrets and false-rescue scenarios created by the Empty, that he can’t trust that his rescue is real? And so he runs off to be on his own - literally stealing the Impala because he can’t handle being in Dean’s presence one moment longer - and only slowly comes to terms with the idea that it’s over now and he can be happy with/around his friends and family. This one’s both deliciously angsty and at times funny/sweet, looking at Cas’s relationships not just with Dean but with Sam, Jack, Claire, even Eileen. It does some fun stuff with other returned angels and demons who now find themselves back on Earth (and human), and...I just really enjoyed this one a lot.

Both Saved and Lost by angelfishofthelord (13.7k) Gen Cas character study, absolutely gorgeous and sad and one of those fic I couldn’t stop thinking about the day after reading it. AU where Apocaverse!Cas isn’t immediately killed by our Cas during 13x22 but instead hitches a ride back to the main ‘verse. Dean and Sam want to keep him alive for information on Michael; Cas is torn and trying to figure out just how similar—or different—they really are. Some great angel stuff here (I also highly recommend this author’s Jack & Cas “dadstiel” fics, they’re equally lovely and heartbreaking at the same time.)

flesh of the mighty by Mudprophet (2.7k) - THEE “What exactly did Dean eat in Purgatory, anyway?” fic you’ve probably already heard about. *cough* I’ve been trying to work up the courage to read this one for a while and finally gave in and OH MY CHUCK I’m so glad I did. It’s perversely disturbing and beautiful at the same time, Cas is wonderfully DERANGED and ALIEN in that way that I love it when fics managed to convey just how much angels are NOT human. Do heed the tags.

Full of Grace by ilovehowyouletmefall (11k) - Another one for the weird-as-fuck-angel!Cas lovers’ list. Heaven/canon-compliant fic where Dean knows he should feel happy and at peace but he just...isn’t, even with Cas and all of his friends and family there. He finally goes looking for Cas when he’s been absent for a time and, for the first time, gets to not just see but experience his true form. Another one that hits some kinks I knew I had and others I didn’t...until now. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

don't ask me where i've been by saltwound / @1x06 (8k) - I can never resist a good 09x06 fiction gap fic! What makes this one really stand out is how well it captures Cas’s internal voice - his struggles adapting to human senses, limitations and emotions versus what/how he experienced things as an angel. The longing and feelings between Dean & Cas here are so achingly beautiful and I just wanted to cry when Cas says he misses hearing Dean’s prayers, so Dean, he...oh, I’m not going to spoil it. *happy sigh* Just read it.
