King Henry VII was born . . ◼ Henry was born at Pembroke Castle in Wales on 28 January 1457 to the 13-year-old Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond. His father, Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond, died three months before his birth. . ◼ Born Henry Tudor, he later became king Henry VII & was the founder of the Tudor dynasty, unifying the warring factions in the Wars of the Roses. Although supported by Lancastrians & Yorkists alienated by Richard III’s usurpation, Henry VII’s first task was to secure his position. In 1486 he married Elizabeth of York, eldest daughter of Edward IV, thus uniting the Houses of York & Lancaster. . ◼ Henry’s reign (1485-1509) was troubled by revolts, sometimes involving pretenders (such as Perkin Warbeck & Lambert Simnel) who impersonated Edward V or his brother. With this in mind, n 1485, Henry formed a personal bodyguard from his followers known as the ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ (the oldest military corps in existence today). . ◼ Henry strengthened the power of the monarchy by using traditional methods of government to tighten royal administration & increase revenues (reportedly including a daily examination of accounts). Royal income rose from an annual average of £52,000 to £142,000 by the end of Henry’s reign. Little co-operation between King & Parliament was required; during Henry’s reign of 24 years, seven Parliaments sat for some ten & a half months. . ◼ Henry used dynastic royal marriages to establish his dynasty in England & help maintain peace. The Last Plantaganets

I'm this day in history the 14th if August 1473 Margaret Pole was born. She was born the daughter of George Plantaganet, 1st Duke of Clarence and Isabelle Neville. She was the second birn child but she and her younger brother Edward woukd be the only children to survive infancy out of their mothers 4 births.

In 1487 she was married to Richard Pole, a man who'd fought on the side of Henry VII in the Battle.of Bosworth Feild. She would serve under 2 Tudor kings and even raised Princess Mary Tudor the first Queen Regnant of England.(Mary I. Daughter of Henry VIII and Catalina de Aragon)

She is a tragic figure in history as she had a chaotic childhood being orphaned at a young age and her eventual death wasn't of natural causes but a botched execution in 1540.

To this day she remains a strong and pittied character in history for the troubles the world threw at her. Through everything she kept her head high and did her duty until the very end.

ⒷⓄⓄⓀ ⓇⒺⓋⒾⒺⓌ The other Boleyn Girl Author: Phillippa Gregory Genre: Historical Fiction My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ The movie adaption made me read this novel. The entire story revolves around 16th century England and the Royal family. Marianne Boleyn, narrates the story from her 13 years of age, when she attracted the King Henry Tudor VIII, and in an attempt to ride up the social ladder, her family overlooks her marriage and sends her of to the King as his lover. The queen, who was the Spannish Princess, Catherine of Aragon, did not bear him a male heir. And as a punishment to that, later the king annulled their marriage and got married to Anne Boleyn, the elder sister of Marianne Boleyn. The story mainly focuses on the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn and the Boleyn family in regards with the English Royal Family, and it ends with the beheading of Anne Boleyn and her Brother, George Boleyn (whose only fault was being gay. Although he was discreet about it since it was proclaimed as sin, his wife turned on him). You can read the novel if you like history, and if historical fictions are your thing. The gory details of the cruelty of society is surely cringe worthy. I liked the narrative, however it surely slowed down a lot in the endless court dramas, the continuous flattery and Henry Tudor's whims and tantrums. Overall though, a very good read for history buffs.
