She’s won multiple awards for her role opposite Sam Heughan in hit time travel drama Outlander – and the show is just one of the subjects she’s happy to have her say on.

Born in Dublin in 1979, Caitriona Balfe always planned to be an actor, studying drama at the Dublin Institute of Technology.

But at the age of 18 she was scouted by an modelling agent at the age of 18 while collecting charity money at a supermarket and quickly became successful – closing fashion shows around the world for the likes of Chanel, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Alberta Ferretti and Louis Vuitton.

A minor role in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada saw her return to acting and she moved to LA in 2009 to focus on her first love, winning parts in films including Super 8, Now You See Me, and Escape Plan.

Global fame beckoned when she signed up to play Claire Fraser in the Starz historical drama series Outlander in 2014. Since then the six series of the hit show filmed in Scotland have earned her a British Academy Scotland Award, an Irish Film and Television Award, two People's Choice Awards, three Saturn Awards, two Critics' Choice Television Awards nominations, and four Golden Globe Awards nominations.

In a way, this blog of mine is a huge metaphor. It's open to all isn't it? But still no one reads it. Because they don't know it exists.

I think it really shows what it's like for me. Everyone who knows I exist, does know my life story. And they think they know me. My story is open to all. But.....the fact that they think they know me? *Laugh * that's where they are wrong.

That's why I think I thought about it. The day someone opens this blog and reads and then falls in love with me, I know they really fell for the real me. Because this is the only place I am real. :)

“I swear y’all were taller before.”

Grian barreled towards Cub, trailed by a giggling Scar and a dumbfounded Fwip. “Cub! Cub! Join us!” He grabbed at Cub’s sleeve and began dragging the man towards his hermitification machine.

“Don’t do it!” Fwip said, trailing behind the group. “It’s a cult!”

“Oh Fwip, you’re being dramatic. Clearly you’ve never met a hermit. This is the real us.” Scar took Cub by the arm, patting it and leading him along.

“Exactly!” Grian crowed, coming to a halt in front of the flashy machine that said “join”. “I mean, you know what they say- once you become a hermit, you’re always happy! Oh, okay, it kind of sounds like a cult if I say it like that. It’s not!”

Everyone laughed, even Fwip.

“I don’t know about always happy.” Cub joked. “But I gotta be a real hermit like you two.”

“Exactly! Just go in the tube and press the floor button.” Grian said. He watched Cub clamber in, and looked out at the gathered group. For a second, Cub’s eyes locked with Grian’s, and maybe it was just the light, or the cool, steady gaze Cub always seemed to have, but it sent shivers down Grian’s spine. And then Cub pressed the button, shrunk slightly, and everyone burst into laughter at how comical the whole thing was.

“You were right, you know.”

Grian gasped, then chuckled. “Cub, my goodness, you scared the life out of me. Right about what my- oh my…” Grian turned around and found… well, it was hard to call the being standing in front of him in the villager trading hall “Cub”, but it had Cub’s lab coat and one of Cub’s eyes. This Cub was covered in sculk, which twinkled and shone, like if the stars were underwater.

“You were right… I am always happy now.” This Cub smiled, teeth half-covered in sculk. “It took a while to sink in, but I am happy as a hermit. All the time.”

“That’s… great, man.” Grian replied, reaching for his sword as casually as possible.

“Are you happy, Grian?” Cub took a step towards him.

Grian froze. “Cub…”

“Do you want to be happy, Grian?” Cub reached for him with a sculk-covered hand, and for a second, Grian considered staying, seeing what kind of fucked-up thing would happen if Cub touched him. But his instincts took charge, and he ran, mining his way through a wall and flying out into the night sky. When he looked back, he could see Cub watching him from the hole, not giving chase, just watching, sculk twinkling in the moonlight.
