fans bending over backwards trying to defend ac/ftl by being like “okay, yeah, it SUCKED, but i think it’s because steph was trying to make it seem like it was under the story curse as well ☺️” stephanie is NOT thinking on a meta level like that. she’s made it clear that she doesn’t even plan her novels out, much less plot out an entire series. how would it be possible for her to think on an extra, meta level (and implement it with any degree of elegance) when she’s already exerting all her creativity trying to create a semi-cohesive plot? we can already tell she’s not good enough to do even that. i assure you she’s not thinking of another analytical angle on top of that. she did not pass her ap literature class, i can tell you that much!

ppl saying that the story curse means that ac//ftl is going to have questions unanswered or not make sense are… truly missing the point. i could see that meta analysis if the author executing the concept is capable of it, but ultimately, stephanie garber is not an author capable of writing a decently meta novel. acftl jst sucks. genuinely. if there are so many plot holes in a novel that it can only be held up by fan theories, then it is not a complete, cohesive novel. it’s a disaster.

you can like an author and acknowledge that they fumbled, badly. it’s okay. you can still love this series and know that stephanie wrote a horrible finale for fans and non-fans alike. it wasn’t fair to ppl that liked the first two books for her to write such a shit third novel. and it also wasn’t fair to ppl that like books in general that she wrote such a shit third book that will still get more praise than a better novel.

I spend some time on X-Men and they make you hate being an X-Men fan. Not that they are cringe type hate or I don't wanna be associated with them type hate.
