Dancing with the Stars Season 31 Week 4: The Magic of Disney is Back (courtesy of Disney+)
Sorry y'all. I posted this on the wrong blog. Here is the recap for this week.
Yeah. I have to say that this was the best Disney night since season 20. I know it wasn't all Disney, so that may have helped. But it was so much more fun and felt less like a commercial than the past years have felt. Now, unfortunately I was reminded of why I was so happy Conrad left the show in the first place. I'll get to that a little later. Anyway, let's start the review.
Joseph and Daniella- Charleston (Score=28)- It's great to have Daniella back and I'm glad she's doing okay. I liked this dance. Joseph was super light on his feet and when things went well, they really went well. Unfortunately things also were rough at parts. I think he got a little excited and things got jumbled. I also did feel like there may have been too many lifts in this dance. That's it. I thought the score was appropriate and I cannot wait for these two to have their breakthrough.
Sam and Cheryl- Paso Doble (Score=25)- Ehh. This dance wasn't that good but I don't think that Sam was going to get any better. He was pretty stompy and his shaping was extremely off. He did have a good time though. I'm glad Sam got to have this experience and he and Cheryl got to do it together after being friends for however long. But after this dance, it was clear that she just wasn't going to be able to give more.
Jordin and Brandon- Jazz (Score=34)- I really really loved this dance. I think this was the breakthrough that Jordin needed. She was way more free than she had been and I felt a sense of confidence that I had yet to feel from her prior to this dance. There are still some issues that she can work on (we need a bit more confidence to go through her legs so she stays steady), but this is the way to go and I am so proud of her.
Wayne and Witney- Jazz (Score=36)- I'm very shocked that there were no 10s pulled out for this dance. It deserved at least one, maybe even two. Even though Wayne is obviously a front runner, I also felt like this dance was a breakthrough for him. He's been great but I don't think his performance has come together in the way that it did for this dance. Everything just clicked and I'm so ready to see the new dancer from here on out.
Daniel and Britt- Quickstep (Score=29)- So this dance was fine. Daniel did mess up quite a bit and his posture and frame, while better than last time, were still not the greatest. He mostly stayed on time. And his performance was good as always. But there were just way too many mistakes that happened here.
Shangela and Gleb- Charleston (Score=32)- I really enjoyed this dance and I really enjoy this couple. I think Shangela is making Gleb a lot more endearing and charming in a way that I have yet to see from him on this show. And his choreography has been light years above anything I've seen from him on DWTS. The dance itself was great. Shangela does have messy feet still. But other than that, it was good and so much fun. I really enjoyed seeing Jenifer Lewis and having her sing at the live show. That was a treat.
Heidi and Artem- Viennese Waltz (Score=34)- Hmm. Okay so a few things. This dance was good. I don't think it was 9 good. Heidi still has posture issues that leads to issues with her frame. And something about her moves were not as fluid as I would've liked for them to be. Maybe the use of the umbrella caused issues there, I'm not sure.
Gabby and Val- Quickstep (Score=36)- Yeah, here we go. This dance was riddled with mistakes and Gabby's frame was very loose and just not good. I'm gonna get to a dance that had similar frame problems later on. But the judges all conveniently overlooked all of the very obvious issues Gabby had and gave out an asinine score of 36. This dance should've gotten no higher than a 30. And herein lies my problem with Conrad. When he's been EP, Val and his partners were rewarded for lackluster dances. And it was the most frustrating thing to me about his initial era. I do not want this to continue this season. I'll be quick to give this up if we keep ignoring her very obvious flaws.
Trevor and Emma- Samba (Score=28)- It just wasn't great. It really wasn't. I guess I could see the potential but it was all just very awkward to watch. I understand that he is out of his comfort zone and that dancing takes some time to get used to, but it is not an excuse. And I refuse to let it be one like the judges are trying to do. That being said, I think he's a goner on either Monday or Tuesday next week unless he has two spectacular dances. Looking at what he has lined up, I doubt he knocks two of them out of the park and puts himself in a high enough position on the leaderboard to take him out of the elimination danger zone.
Vinny and Koko- Samba (Score=29)- So I have to say that I really saw just how much time Vinny spent in the studio and appreciated his attention to all of the small details. The difference between the first three weeks and this week was stark. This was his breakthrough. Even though he has a long way to go, what I saw on Monday night was promising and gives me Kelly Monaco vibes. We still need some better footwork, but I don't see him giving anymore cringey performances after what we saw this week. And that is super exciting to me. The 8 was a little high, but CAI tends to get carried away when stars make huge improvements like that, so it made sense with who she is as a judge. Also, Koko is doing a great job keeping Vinny's dances simple right now. Keep building the foundation and gradually make things more difficult (but reasonable) as the show goes on.
Selma and Sasha- Quickstep (Score=32)- So this is the dance I was referring to when I was talking about Gabby. Tbh, I thought this dance was better than what Gabby produced. There were less mistakes and I felt the performance from Selma was better than what Gabby gave. They also had similar frame issues. Derek called it out with them. He ignored it with Gabby. You see my issue? Anyway, I loved this dance and felt like it was another breakthrough.
Jessie and Alan- Jive (Score=31)- Nope. Absolutely not. This dance did not deserve a single 8. While this dance was a definite improvement, this dance looked slow and very heavy. As @mister-antonioonio said to me, it looked like she was trudging through mud. I couldn't have said it any better. Her feet were also not pointed and she's not only heavy footed, but she also dances very flat footed. I just don't understand the weird praise for this one. A dance like that does not deserve 8s. Straight 7s would've been just fine and it's exactly what they earned.
Charli and Mark- Jazz (Score=36)- Like Wayne, I felt like we should've seen a 10 or two for this dance. It was great. I don't have much else to say about it. It was that good. I really enjoyed Mark's choreo. I thought it was super interesting.
So we had Trevor and Sam in the bottom 2. That made complete sense to me. And I thought it was the right decision to eliminate Sam. He had plateaued imo. Next week we have two performance shows. So get ready for all of that. I'm not excited. Let me know your thoughts though and I will talk to you all soon. Also I will try to get better about getting these up within the day. The past month at work has been disastrous and it's taking everything in me to even be present from day to day.

here's the moment we've been waiting for- our valentine's day blind date pairings! we had 58 characters submitted, so there's 29 pairings!
please remember that these obviously do not have to end in a whirlwind romance! the dates can end up just being two friends having a free meal, can end in a disaster, can have someone else bailing, or maybe can spark something real! the point of it all is to have fun.
the dinner will be held at Neptune on Friday February 16th in game, but threads can begin as of tomorrow! the dates can also bc hc'd as well, all we ask is that everyone paired please speak with your partners and decide on the outcomes together! we don't want anyone feeling left out or dejected.
again, this has been randomized! (with tweaks to make sure no one is paired with themselves and to avoid large age gaps) so as wild as some of these pairs may be, we hope you all have fun with it!

Supporters of #NoHostageLeftBehind Open Letter to Joe Biden - Part 1/2
The letter consists of lies, no mention of Palestinian genocides, and a call for ceasefire.
Read the full letter:
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday's release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan [Raanan] and by today's release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered—women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group's founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.
We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace. Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, in this moment, freedom for the hostages.
We urge everyone to not rest until all hostages are released. No hostage can be left behind. Whether American, Argentinian, Australian, Azerbaijani, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Kazakh, Mexican, Panamanian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Thai, Ukrainian, Uzbekistani or otherwise, we need to bring them home.

Dancing with the Stars Season 31 Week 2: Sick and Tired of Elvis
Yeah, I don't care for Elvis. Outside of a few of his songs (that were always performed better by people other than him), I don't like him. Part of that is due to me being Black and knowing how a lot of Black artists of that time viewed him. I thought the night got way too cheesy. Elvis impersonations always get cringey to me. And finally, I did not need Elvis history lessons. I really didn't. Okay. Now that I got that out of the way, I did enjoy the night of dancing. There was definitely a bit of a week 2 slump in dance quality, but I fully expected it. You wouldn't guess by how the judges were ranting, raving and scoring last night, but we'll get into that as the recap goes on. This was one of the wackiest leaderboards I've seen in a minute.
SN: Alfonso and Tyra really really work well together. I said this last week, but Tyra seems to be way more relaxed and looks like she's having so much more fun
Jessie and Alan- Foxtrot (Score=25)- Yeah no. This dance definitely set the night up for some very strange scores. Was it an improvement over the previous week? Yes. Was it 7 worthy? Absolutely not. Was it four 6s worthy? Not even. Jessie is not a natural dancer at all. That's okay, but I need the judges to score her accordingly. That dance wasn't smooth and she still had mistakes.
Jordin and Brandon- Quickstep (Score=27)- Jordin and Brandon are getting screwed. Putting my bias aside, these two were one of the strongest couples last night. The mistakes that she made were nowhere near as visible or big as the mistakes of so many others. Even those who were scored the same as or higher than her. Jordin had some weird frame issues. It felt a little too loose. She also had a slight mistake in the middle there. But besides those two things, I thought they did a great job and it should've been straight 7s. My hope is that they get to go later next week so that they can actually be scored appropriately. Though Jessie got an inflated score and went first. So my spidey sense are starting to tingle.
Sam and Cheryl- Viennese Waltz (Score=26)- I like Sam well enough and this partnership is pretty cool. I do end up forgetting about them by the end of the night though. I don't find their dances to be all that engaging and Sam isn't the most captivating performer. But, he gave a mostly competent dance. His feet and frame need work.
Shangela and Gleb- Quickstep (Score=28)- Shangela is quite the performer. Every time she goes out on the floor, she lights it up. Like Jordin and Brandon, I feel like these two are getting slightly screwed over. Other than her hold being awkward (Derek said exactly what the issue was with her pushing her neck up instead of pushing her upper body back) and a hiccup in the middle of the dance, it was great. I could've seen this get an 8. And it definitely should've gotten an 8.
Teresa and Pasha- Jive (Score=23)- This was a huge improvement over last week and I am so glad that Teresa got to have a moment where she was victorious. It started out rocky but she was able to pull it together and finish out the performance in a way that she could be proud of. Yeah she was heavy footed and her musicality needed work, but she was on the right path. I hoped she would stick around one more week, as she deserved it in my opinion. But oh well. She went out on a high note and that's all you can ask for at the end of the day.
Daniel and Britt- Jive (Score=29)- Was this dance entertaining? Yes. Was it technically sound? Not really. The judges went way overboard with the praise of this dance. And Bruno took it way far. His feet needed a lot more work, his free arm is still awkward and he did go off time a few times. I'm being tougher than I usually am in week 2, but Bruno said he couldn't find anything wrong (while still giving him an 8, meaning there was something wrong). So I feel like I have to point out the issues. This probably deserved a 26. I want the celebs to get better and blowing smoke up their butts does not help. The judges have been doing that more and more frequently as of late.
Gabby and Val- Viennese Waltz (Score=32)- So I thought this dance was pretty. It was nice. She's got beautiful extensions. She's flexible. I liked it. She was scored too high and I need the judges to point out her legs. She has a case of Bambi legs. She's not super steady on her legs and for the past two weeks, I have seen that problem. I want them to finally tell them about it and stop completely gushing over everything she does. This should've been a 30, max.
Vinny and Koko- Quickstep (Score=27)- In my opinion, this was the biggest improvement of the night from both the celeb and the pro. I think Koko was able to go back to the drawing board and create a much better dance that worked for Vinny. And Vinny performed it a lot better than I was expecting. He was focused but was having a good time. He performs very well. And his frame was very good. I think of all the men that had to be in hold, he was the best. As the dance went on, he loosened up and got better. Now we need to work a bit more on his musicality, his feet and his hands. There were times that he walked his way through the choreo and then out of nowhere, he was dancing dancing. So he has the potential to really do it. And it is coming together. I'm excited to see what he turns into as the season goes on.
Charli and Mark- Quickstep (Score=32)- This was a great dance. Charli is really really good. I think the things that I liked most about the dance was the nuances in choreography that Mark threw in and her personality. Now, Charli did get out of sync with Mark a few times. And when they got in hold, there was something real funky happening. I can't really describe what it was, but her neck and head placement combined with her posture at times was really bothersome. I felt the score was appropriate.
Selma and Sasha- Jive (Score=28)- Selma is a really really good performer. She hit that cartwheel and split like it was nothing. Now, after that split, she kinda got lost a bit. And even though she has MS and it makes some of these dances harder, I would've liked to see just a little more bounce action. I think a 26/27 would have been good.
Cheryl and Louis- Tango (Score=21)- Oh Cheryl. Okay so she went wrong at the beginning and never really found her way back into the dance. She fought to get through it. But man, was it a fight. Nothing went right tbh. I think CAI was right about Cheryl being able to handle more, but I feel like Louis might need to dial it back just a bit and have a happy medium. I want Cheryl to feel comfortable but still feel like she's pushing herself.
Joseph and Alexis- Viennese Waltz (Score=24)- First of all, in case you couldn't watch the show, Alexis from the troupe had to fill in for Daniella due to her positive COVID test. And just a reminder everyone, we are still in a pandemic that is killing thousands everyday. Please keep utilizing your masks (use your best judgment), social distance, hang out outside when you can and get your vaccines, whether it is your first series or your booster. This is still very much a thing. Now Joseph was good out of hold. His arms were so pretty. He's definitely a gentle giant. Now in hold, he turned into Herman Munster. Everything was wrong and that needs definite work. He still surprises me though and I cannot wait until Daniella gets back. Hopefully she's doing okay. And also, Alexis did a great job helping him through this dance.
Heidi and Artem- Foxtrot (Score=28)- Heidi did a much better job this week. She was very smooth. In fact, when they were in hold and started moving across the floor, I thought Heidi was on ice skates. It was that good. Now, her posture was good up until the end of the dance. She started to crumble. I think a lot of that is her confidence. I could see her face change and right when it did, she caved in on herself. She also needs to work on her flexibility. Once she gets those together, Heidi will be a definite threat.
Trevor and Emma- Rumba (Score=30)- Oh boy. Okay. First of all, I hate that we have the showmance couple of the season. The way the judges feel all over themselves for this dance was baffling. The way I guffawed when they started gushing? Y'all would've been entertained. It wasn't a bad dance. He had really nice arms. But the bottom half of his body needs work. He lacked hip action and his feet kinda got a little sticky in certain places during the dance. He also just didn't do that much. Bruno and Derek were talking like this was the best week 2 rumba for a man when Jimmie's rumba in week 2 just last season was much better than this. But they usually start acting like this when it's time for a showmance, so here we go. I'm not happy about this. Also, this should've been a 26.
Wayne and Witney- Jive (Score=32)- To me, this was the best dance of the night. Wayne killed it. Loved the choreo. He had the best handle on the technique of the dance of anyone (though his feet need some more work). It was great.
So that's it. Teresa and Cheryl were the bottom 2. And Teresa was eliminated. I don't agree with that decision as I think her dance this week was stronger than Cheryl in week 1. But that's how the cookie crumbles or whatever. Let me know your thoughts and I will talk to you all soon.

FAS3002 Lifestyle Lecture
In this lecture, we began  to look at historical social aspects that influence brands and industries. This involved exploring how the combination of changing industry and technology, world events, and social changes would influence the fashion and textiles industry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first example we looked at was the Industrial Revolution and how it enabled the Suffragette movement to use their fashion to push social change. Specifically, this was focussed around colours which coded their movement- an aspect picked up on by large scale retailers. Following this in the post war era, rationing and utility was prioritised, resulting in more colourful and alternative clothing. This was exacerbated by the Make do and Mend campaign, which made this aspect of social fashion history more mainstream. Indeed, I discovered in my own research how the Make Do and Mend campaign has followed through into modern fashion, specifically with a noticeable shift to sustainability in recent years (Unknown, 2023).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In groups, we looked at the social, industrial, and political events of the 1990s and how this influenced fashion of the time. Our completed mind map is pictured above, and focuses on the New Labour influence of merging politics and social fashion influencers like bands and celebrities. Indeed, in my own research I found how Tony Blair would invite celebrities to 10 Downing Street in order to be seen as fashionable and ‘cool’, giving the fashion influencers of the time a large platform (Paton-Walsh, 1999). Socially, television and film was becoming increasingly popular, with hugely popular cinematic pieces being key influences on style at the time. Similarly, heroin chic was at its pique (image three), and this pushed designers to create clothes that were more fitted and revealing to meet this desirable look.
I shall use this activity to further my development by looking at the historical aspects that would influence our brand, particularly once we have established a brand concept we are all comfortable with.

The lazarus effect cast

#THE LAZARUS EFFECT CAST MOVIE#
She has by far the most intriguing role, taking Zoe from voice of reason to demonic hellbeast. Even playing a vaguely villainous nerd, Duplass remains loose and natural, riffing his way through ludicrous exposition and bantering with the very game Wilde. It’s all deeply unsatisfying.Īt least the actors valiantly labor to breathe life into the limp narrative. A dash of “The Thing” here, a dollop of “The Fury” there - topped with cardboard characters and superficial treatment of Big Questions involving life and death, science and religion. As zombie Zoe develops crazy powers (telekinesis, mind reading, the ability to fully dilate her pupils at will), everyone including Frank just sits around waiting to see what happens next. The answer turns out to be a whole slew of horror tropes (one half expects “Flatliners”-era Kiefer Sutherland to show up ranting, “Our sins have come back in a physical form!”), but no genuine scares, and certainly nothing visceral enough to threaten the bloodless PG-13 rating.Ĭredited scribes Luke Dawson (“Shutter”) and Jeremy Slater (the upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot) clearly aim to reimagine Frankenstein (down to the name of Duplass’ sorta-mad scientist), but the script is quite literally made up of recycled parts.
#THE LAZARUS EFFECT CAST MOVIE#
That’s when “The Lazarus Effect” morphs from the kind of pseudo-intellectual science thriller that forces its cast to recite meaningless technical jargon in an attempt to sound smart into a full-blown horror movie forcing the same characters to act as dumb as humanly possible. The stakes soon escalate past the point of no return when a covert attempt to re-create the resurrection results in Zoe losing her life, and Frank taking extreme measures to bring her back. Meanwhile, the couple’s support staff - computer whiz Niko (Donald Glover), who nurses a crush on Zoe, pothead idea man Clay (Evan Peters) and newly hired videographer Ava (Sarah Bolger) - don’t seem particularly fazed by the fact that they’ve brought a formerly living creature back from the dead, though Clay has his reservations after a late night alone with the dog. It doesn’t help when she notices the undead pup isn’t exactly acting normal. Zoe is a little more conflicted, thanks to a strong dose of Catholic guilt and mysterious recurring nightmares from her childhood. At least, that’s what Frank hopes to achieve by hooking up various deceased animals, including a pig and a dog, to an elaborate machine and injecting them with a fancy resuscitation serum. When the ongoing trials actually succeed in reanimating a departed canine, Frank is thrilled. Still, even a modest opening weekend will ensure a profit before toxic word of mouth kills this stinker for good.Īs a follow-up to the heralded foodie documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi,” this is certainly an odd selection for director David Gelb at the very least, it’s the strangest doc-to-horror left turn since Joe Berlinger’s “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2.” But as with that notorious disappointment, the offbeat choice of helmer isn’t reflected in the anonymous final product (though “Lazarus” leading lady Olivia Wilde does nosh on sushi in one early scene).įor reasons never made entirely clear, romantically entangled scientific researchers Frank ( Mark Duplass) and Zoe (Wilde) have spent several years at a California university getting closer and closer to their ultimate goal: resurrecting the dead. Completed back in 2013 and originally set for release via Lionsgate, the low-budget pic subsequently landed at Relativity, which just last year teamed with producing shingle Blumhouse to distribute the imaginative and unsettling “Oculus.” No such luck this time around, as “Lazarus” shamelessly steals from superior genre efforts and lacks any distinguishing traits beyond a wildly overqualified cast. Appropriately enough for a horror-thriller about raising the dead, “ The Lazarus Effect” has spent the past few years sitting on a shelf, developing quite a stench in the process.
