but i think the thing that really gets me about the bonnie & clyde musical is how inevitable it all is. like i don't use this phrase often because it's used so much on tumblr that it's kinda lost its meaning but the pair really are doomed by the narrative on so many levels.

first of all, it's based on real events. therefore everything that happens in the play has already happened and is predetermined

this wouldn't matter were it not for the fact that bonnie & clyde are so notorious and as a result we know they're going to die and we know they're going to die violently

secondly, and more importantly tbh, the play is cyclical. it starts and ends on the exact same scene – bonnie and clyde lying dead in a car that is riddled with bullet holes with the same faint music playing in the background

i love love love cyclical structures in tragedies because they really do give the viewer the sense that everything was leading up to this one moment – and in this case, that moment is the death of bonnie & clyde

finally, throughout the play we get the sense that the two know they're going to die. bonnie's poetry – 'some day they will get you too' and 'it's death for bonnie and clyde' for example, as well as the songs 'dyin ain't so bad' and 'too late to turn back now' again make their deaths seem inevitable

so yeah. doomed by the narrative wahoo. consider this me trying to convince you guys to get into the bonnie & clyde musical <3

the bonnie and clyde musical is sooooo timeloop. the way it begins and ends on the exact same scene, the cyclical nature of the show to begin at the end and then tell the story and reach the inevitable and then the story begins anew, as stories are told - and that’s what clyde wanted. for their story to be told. to be remembered. and in that story he will die over and over and over but he will be remembered, bonnie will be remembered.

the inevitability of it all, this doomed narrative that the people within are aware of. bonnie knows she’s going to die, she knows she’s dooming herself because clyde is already doomed, but she will always go with clyde and she will always stay with him. and they will always die and they will always know they are going to die but they will run from it anyway and they will laugh and they will love each other on the way. and then they will die. and then the story will be told again.

what was good enough for you from the Bonnie and Clyde musical feels so curtwen coded but it might only be curtwen coded because of the very specific headcanons and characterizations of curt and owen that I have

this really feels right because of the “curt as texan flavor of american” headcanon. Especially adhd texan curt, I can’t imagine he would be satisfied with staying as a farmer when he has all these stories of outlaws and westward expansion fueling his dreams. He’s always seemed to kind of thrive on the fame and notoriety being “The Great Agent Mega” brings as well.

Adrenaline junkie owen. Why else would he hang around the foolish, reckless, seat of his pants escapes type that Curt is? Owen feels like the type of person who just craves More of life than being an ordinary person could give him, and he finds that in Curt. Maybe he joins m16 to see more of the world, but when he meets Curt he can’t help but be swept away a little by his influence, and that’s part of the reason they stick together.

I of course have more to say about my personal interpretation of their relationship and how these traits affect that but this song in particular got the brain worms goung
