While I was still playing the first trilogy I came across fanart of Jove Justice and Thalassa and seriously believed that Apollo's father was a character from AA4.
And since I had already caught other spoilers - I can't avoid them - I thought it was part of the Gavinners.
So when I started playing "Turnabout Serenade" and saw the opening footage of the concert I wondered which of the shadowed musicians was Jove.
And then I spent the rest of the game waiting for the appearance of a man who wasn't there.

"News is unusual things happening--"
"And usual things happening," said Sacharissa, screwing up a report from the Ankh-Morpork Funny Vegetable Society.
"And usual things, yes," said William. "But news is mainly what someone somewhere doesn't want you to put in the paper--"
"Except that sometimes it isn't," said Sacharissa again.
"News is--" said William, and stopped. They watched him politely as he stood with his mouth open and one finger raised.
"News," he said, "all depends. But you'll know it when you see it. Clear? Right. Now go and find some."

Suggestion: how about "best Season 1"? A lot of shows I watch come back completely differently in season 2 and it makes you wonder what happened.
I want to stick to episodes with this blog‚ but that does sound like fun too.
Actually nvm I thought about it and now I’m getting excited about this concept
I’m gonna keep this out of the running for the next bracket‚ but I might come back to it later (this is not me calling dibs or anything so if someone else wanted to pick this idea up‚ then feel free to)

Passion and suffering. Pleasure and pain. Can't have one without the other. I can't imagine them being separate. That's how its always been for me. If I felt one I would surely feel the other, in what some would call "unfortunate," and what some would call "perversion."
I feel everything so deeply, intensely. My emotions are too "extreme." Surely this must be my punishment for that. My inability to moderate my obsessions just made me get used to the agony that accompanied it. The lows turned into highs and when I crashed it'd all start over again, a cycle.
I thought that with you I would finally be content. Your sweet sunshine self that pierced through the storm clouds that invaded my psyche, your comforting presence accompanied by that fragrant flower scent, intoxicating, that I would gladly drown in. I loved your gentle dazed eyes, like melting candies. Everything about you, I thought it would satisfy me, finally keep me happy. That's why I had to have you, more than just clinging by my side. But maybe that was the storm coming in, showering my brain in false excitement to receive the resounding thunder of an intense thought with joy.
Was looking forward to it. But something's missing, and I can't understand why. What went wrong? Saudade turns sour in my mouth: sickening, debilitating, like I'd throw up. Oh, that would be in vain. I must brave through this melancholy without a medicine, though my suffering isn't noble like a martyr's. It's tainted—sin—because I'm the one who poisoned myself looking for a cure to my "addiction."
I passed my lips over your skin, both when it was dead and still alive. Chewing. Sucking. Tearing, grazing. Ripping, swallowing. Filaments thinner than a delicate flower petal's width tantalize my tastebuds like honey with an added spice. Flakes dissolve on my tongue just as the powder of your dandruff does. Your nails click against my teeth, one of the few sounds I remember after you, a garden buzzing with life, went silent. After a crop pest's ravage, it was to be expected, but I had told myself I did it because I loved you, suffocating you in a swarm of my affections. And when the clouds cleared, there was nothing that remained, not even bone.
Indulging in pleasures of the flesh. I wanted to find pleasure in your flesh, even while you were in agony, in your last moments. Your tears had been like sweet nectar and I needed more. I ate it all up, but it wasn't appetizing enough. There was almost guilt—who was I to act like a petulant child, whining for dessert and then barely even finishing it when it was actually awarded to me? I don't know what's wrong with me. Or maybe I do, but to admit it would be ritual suicide. Why couldn't I just savor it, enjoy it, take it and be done with it. I had wanted it, no? I thought it'd make me happy; well, why hasn't it?
why is it not enough?

I've wanted to write a dissertation on the localization differences in Sawashiro's Chapter 13 scenes FOREVER you have NO idea, thank you so much for pointing that out.
I did experience the full game back when it was only out in Japanese so I've certainly got Thoughts on both in comparison to the original as well. Although it's not exactly what you were talking about, I do personally think the playfulness is 100% purposeful and the more accurate take in this case! Not just in a literal sense, but in terms of authorial intent.
Chapters 1, 2, and 13 specifically are full of homages to and subversions of his character as seen in RGGO. Playfulness, unpredictability, and an off-putting sense of humor are central to RGGO!Sawashiro. He also happens to be particularly fond of fake-outs like that. Obviously a lot has changed between games, but there's a lot of fascinating interplay as well, even with 7!Sawashiro's much more subdued presentation. Yokoyama has said he was going for a story that doesn't require RGGO's context to understand or enjoy, but a story that's nonetheless made more interesting by taking RGGO's context into account. The effects of that approach are of course going to be apparent in RGGO's main antagonist.
So I don't think it's far-fetched at all to say there's a sense of humor there we just don't get to see much of, being Ichi and being in the situations we're in when we encounter him. I think that kind of works for him as a character whose idiosyncrasies are conveyed equally by what we see and what we don't see.
... I guess I kind of ended up writing a dissertation anyway lol sorry
this is like getting a letter from the president thank you so much for your dissertation and your work in general im actually framing this on my brain walls

Rereading hs rn and got to tavros's intro and the blue fairy on her desktop literally has her horns before I didn't rly "get" ur gender meta but now I see you were right about everything. She literally has herself depicted as a bluefairy saved her computer holy shit
LITERALLY LITERALLY LITERALLY LIKE . GIRL . GIRL DO YOU NEED TO TELL US SOMETHING ... its so funny there is no way in hell that her interest in blue fairies is in anyway divorced from her gender that is a transgender girl

Ykno, I've been thinking about the way discacc has a bit of a running theme with Dancing. Between The Dance (metaphorical dance to describe the entire time they weren't being upfront about things), goro's happiest memories with his mother being of them dancing, and then the literal dance marking the end of The Dance...
There's a theme.
Couple that with the fact that the original name of discacc was going to be Discordant Harmony (until I googled it and found it was a mlp episode and I CANNOT have that), and we get a definite theme.
Harmony, music, and dancing.
That's the source of the series name, Steps to Harmony. Recycling the use of Harmony from the original thing I had in mind, then coupling the fact that this is a series of steps towards them achieving their "harmony" (since discacc will Not be the end of their emotional problems lmfao) AND dancing imagery.
Steps to Harmony. It's a dance.
It all goes back to dancing.
#speculation nation#discacc shit#in discacc dancing exists to goro as an expression of joy and celebration of life#right after he danced with akira he thought about this. the way he'd only ever danced with his mother.#dancing was a precious memory with her not to be tarnished with things in the present. and so he danced with akira.#does that line stem from the fact that akira was in his past so it's okay? or the fact that goro loves akira so much that it doesnt matter?#honestly? more of the second.#goro had not danced with anyone before then since his mother because there was never anyone he would Want to dance with.#but he danced with akira. he celebrated life and love and happiness with akira.#and in the end it was a major milestone for their relationship. culminating in their first kiss.#a mundane first kiss. two boys giggling in an attic with their toenails painted. dancing to music played on phone speakers.#but the very act of that dance. it was something magical. a joy so potent for the both of them that it made the world rosey#despite the mundanity of the kiss. they both consider it perfect.#i plan to include more things with dancing. i have smth set for interlude fic Definitely.#but it's such a noteworthy thing for them. of Course i have to include it.#just like his mother. a downtrodden goro has no joy with which to dance.#but on the days where he can stand up without the world weighing on his shoulders#he will celebrate life with his love in one of the most human ways possible#through dance.

Thinking about that one side character who still doesn't have a name, I think, who is in an open marriage with a goddess, Pflanza, who has a very casual relationship with the god of love, Minno, as in, he just appears once every decade or so and the human guy has been married to Pflanza for years without ever meeting Minno, so he just imagined this tall, hypermasculine guy. And then he meets Minno, who is short and androgynous.
