I’d like to think that the infected suit for Isaac is from a universe where Isaac died and was turned into a necromorph but out of sheer will, he rejected convergence and became a special necromorph still holding his original form together and wanders the halls of the Ishimura looking for Nicole while fighting off Necromorphs who clearly see him as a traitor to his kind.

Have to say... the new Dead Space introduces Mercer very well. In the original game this guy awoke in me such a hatred as I haven't felt for another videogame villain since (it's the pervesion of medicine, to put it plainly; I do not do well with corrupt doctors). And in the remake it's like they knew how hateable he already was and made it that little bit worse. The whole fake message with Nicole? The stasis module bit he does?

Can I just say I finally found a doctor that's worse than, well, your Doctor? I've been playing the 2023 remake of Dead Space, and Doctor Challus Mercer makes our favourite roly-poly practitioner look like someone I'd absolutely trust for anything between my yearly physicals and my occasional prescriptions.

Mercer, in comparison, is all about torturing his patients after submitting them to the effects of some alien sculpture, so they mutate and come back as hyper-aggressive drones with too many pointy bits.

Apples to apples, your Doc is positively friendly.

Something I absolutely adore about dead space is the fact the when Dr. Challus Mercer, a significant secondary antagonist, turns himself into a necromorph, instead of being a mini boss like most games would have made him, he becomes a normal necromorph just like any other corpse on the ship. He doesn’t get special attention for being an important character, he just fucking dies like anyone else.
