A girl full of energy like the sun, Fine.

The Sunny Kingdom's princess. Always sticks with her twin Rein. She is not good at dancing and practicing, and because she is full of energy and restless, she received quite a disgrace nickname as "the most un-princess-like princess since the creation of the Wonder Planet".

She loves to eat, and when she visits other kingdoms, she would first look for delicious food. Even at parties, she cares more about the feast than dressing up. If she smells something nice, she would follow the scent immediately.

Thanks to that, she gets along well with fellow glutton, Princess Milky.

The type who takes action right away once she thinks of something. She has a tendency to judge based on appearance and intuition which is why she made a

blunder and was tricked by a fortune-telling old woman. Even so, there are situations that end well such as when she believed in Eclipse from the beginning and how she helped Ukki, ready to jump into the danger regardless. For some reason, she's worried about Eclipse.

Princess Fine has quite an ability to judge a character as she can see through that Eclipse is not a bad person - pumo~ But can't she do something about how easily distracted she is when it comes to food - pumo? As a princess, she still has a long way to go - pumo!

She thought it failed so she felt especially pleased.

She's a master of tree climbing with the spirit to never give up when she turns into Fiekky.

She's been curious about Eclipse since their first meeting. 

He held her when she fell in the forest while trying to pick some bananas.

Her tearful face when she missed the cake at the tea party. 

Perhaps the most important thing for Fine is delicious food.

Cheerful Fine's only weaknesses are dark places and ghosts! She had to look for Bright but she's so scared that she cannot stop crying.

A princess of Sunny Kingdom whose catchphrase is “Oh no! Oh no!”. 

She loves to eat and play and is the type who dashes straight ahead. She challenges various things such as ball riding, arts and runs up a jumping pier. Perhaps due to her liveliness, she is sensitive to other people’s troubles. When Tio was frustrated over the Bright Samba incident, or when Nacchi couldn’t do well on trapeze and when she immediately took action after Bright invited her. She has a subtle maiden-heart side in her, like how it bothered her when Shade leaned more towards Rein. Like Rein, she has the power to trust people and the strength to keep smiling, and that’s how she earned everyone's trust and became the perfect Eternal Solar Princess.

While i work I've been listening to an LP of the Telltale Walking Dead Games (the ones with clementine, I do not care about the others lmao). Ages ago when I played these I was well aware/amused that part of season 2 takes place in Parker's Crossroads/Parker's Run because I grew up right next to it and the detail stood out to me. But I never caught the line of "We'll head to parker's run. It's just up the road from here" until just right now. So I had a sort of "wait, where the fuck are they supposed to be right now?" YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version

follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place

as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer

and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty

great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)

#walking in two worlds #the everlasting road #wab kinew #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts! #I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience! #There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression #I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional #- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much #It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life. #she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat.. #then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression! #her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it #could have.. #I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there) #also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic! #the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools #the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays #but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

  Loyal to Bright, a girl who dreams; Rein. 

Sunny Kingdom's princess. Always sticks to her twin sister Fine. Like Fine, she dislikes practice which is why they are called "the most un-princess-like princess since the creation of the Wonder Planet". Full of energy and quick to act. 

Since she is also calm so she would take action only after giving it some thought, she always had to stop Fine's reckless act.

She suggested a peaceful solution during the Bo Dragon event and helped link cooperation between Windmill Kingdom and Jewelry Kingdom in a balloon race.

Her judgment brings great results to the people around her.

On the other hand, her eyes are filled with hearts the moment she sees cool people like Bright and Shade. Especially when she starts imagining situations with her beloved Bright, she just stops paying attention to her surroundings and might even go on a rampage. 

While she is interested in adorable and girly things like flowers, she is also fond of scary things.

She held onto her beloved Bright's back while getting on Ruby. Even though she had to look for Fine, it was such a blissful moment for her.

Princess Rein's manners are quite commendable and she is also reliable - pumo~ But can't she do something about her being extremely fond of cool boys..? As I thought, she still needs to put more effort - pumo!

She would impersonate Bright's voice with words she wished to hear and then ended up getting embarrassed.

Bad at Sports!

She placed last in the race at the princess party but is good at weird dances.

Puppet came approaching her while saying "Play with me," with a scary expression. 

She understood that they were feeling sad for being thrown away so she gently hugged Puppet.

Calm at scary and suspicious places.

She even loves screaming machines and haunted houses. Full of curiosity, the opposite of Fine the scaredy cat.

Really bad at sports. 

She seems to be getting along well with Mirlo, as both aren't so good with sports such as sprints and bun-eating races.

Proposed cooperation between the two countries as a method of repairing a broken balloon. 

Actually, it was to make Bright and Auler get along.

She is a feminine princess who loves cute things and fashion, but she positively cheered on Altezza who broke down into tears and reprimanded Fine who was going to lose her heart from sadness. She also has a brave spirit, shown when she reached out for Bright who was about to be swallowed by Black Crystal.

She is devoted to Bright, believing that he would surely regain his heart even after he was swallowed by the power of darkness. Just like Fine, she cherishes smiles and possesses a trusting heart. Her heart reached her comrades and that’s how she turned into a perfect Eternal Solar Princess.

To Bright who will do anything to become a king, she said; “Making others suffer to be a king is unlike Bright that I know!”

She felt discouraged seeing that even her parents were trapped in grief, but was concerned about Fine and comforted her. “We must not cry. If we cry, we lose.”

The thought of the existence of a prince coming to rescue came to mind when she was trapped in the lost garden/garden of illusion. The truth is, she wants to rely on someone.

“We will never give up. So everyone, hang in there and don’t give up. Do not give in to the power of darkness.” They cheered on everyone who seemed to be discouraged by Bright’s overwhelming power. Thus, everyone’s hearts were united as one while Fine and Rein became Eternal Solar Princesses.

Princess Grace told them to cherish happiness and to believe in others. The two believed without questioning Candy’s words to hand over the Grace Stone. As a result, it awakened Candy’s conscience.

I almost posted yesterday about how much I was loving Archer's Voice but I was only about 1/3 of the way in. I'm glad I didn't because now I hate this book so much. I have about 100 pages left and at this point I'm just hate reading it so that I can rank it last on my ranked list of books read this year.

the weirdest thing about the HUGE toh fandom engagement i've gotten on ao3 is that people have pretty consistently been like, "wow, you completely transformed these characters from external dialogue/visuals to consistent internal narration, i can tell EXACTLY who's telling the story just based on their words/priorities/thoughts/observations, this grasp of prose and character voice is so meticulous it's fucking mindblowing" (but, you know, phrased like a normal person) and it's like . actually yeah 100% if i had to pick my strength and in writing fiction, i'd say it's Those Things Exactly! i feel Seen and Appreciated and like my frankly very silly amount of editing/drafting work is paying off!

and i've never received This Specific Compliment so often before - "wow, you're really good at writing compelling prose built on strong characterization" - bc i basically Only write for fandoms that are ALREADY BOOKS.

#writing toh fic is like. if you were reading a close third person pov rendition of every character's thoughts at any given moment #what would it look like. can i apply my talent of describing emotions for 3 paragraphs while failing to give a single external detail? #YES BABY #it's genuinely very fun to play around with different characters voices and it's making me remember #how much i just. like storytelling. writing whatever weird fixation i have and building a whole arc around it #idk how 2 explain . just. like #the feeling that by writing my prose i've done st that can't be fully replicated in a different medium. only approximated #that feels INCREDIBLE i always wanna feel like. i made a story that is special Because it was told this way #if it was told a different way thru a different medium it would be a different story #this is less about toh itself and more about just. that nice feeling of like. oh i remember why i love my specific art now #toh #i'm sorry not to be updating my book fics with this energy but sadly this is not how my brain works #it's either toh fic or no fic atm. cannae pull a lever to get the next soulmate jordeclan from the vending machine :(
