Question: am I right in saying no two teal alternates who wore teal for Howard have had the same variation of the costume? My friends are hosting a holiday party where we each have to make a niche-interest PowerPoint and mine’s going to be the Six alternate costumes by color and by queen (they’re gonna hate me haha), and in building it we’ve had Vicki, Jen, Bryony, Elizabeth, Shannen, and Monique go on for Howard in teal, and they’ve all had different costumes (Jen/Bryony/Elizabeth all had the open skirts but different variations)?
(remembered this as I was typing, need to add it to my niche PowerPoint) Jk I guess Lori wore Bryony’s costume for Howard but that feels like an asterisk since it was an emergency cover (and different from other shared costumes as Jen wore the same variation in teal at some point that Madeline did for her covers and Cristina wore Zara’s costume for a queen Zara never played, and in both cases Madeline and Cristina never played Howard)
This was largely stream of consciousness and I apologize (and also happy holidays!)
Yep you're right on all fronts!! I would add the asterisk that that's only including actors who actually debuted Howard; had Cherelle Jay debuted she would have worn her shorts, Grace Melville and Ellie Jane Grant would have worn the 2.0 pants design, and as you noted Madeline would have worn Jennifer's skirt.
Best wishes for the holidays and party!!

From the nine-time women’s basketball icon and two-time Olympic gold medalist—a raw, revelatory account of her unfathomable detainment in Russia and her journey home. On February 17, 2022, Brittney Griner arrived in Moscow ready to spend the WNBA offseason playing for the Russian women’s basketball team where she had been the centerpiece of previous championship seasons. Instead, a security checkpoint became her gateway to hell when she was arrested for mistakenly carrying under one gram of medically prescribed hash oil. Brittney’s world was violently upended in a crisis she has never spoken in detail about publicly—until now. In Coming Home, Brittney finally shares the harrowing details of her sudden arrest days before Russia invaded Ukraine; her bewilderment and isolation while navigating a foreign legal system amid her trial and sentencing; her emotional and physical anguish as the first American woman ever to endure a Russian penal colony while the #WeAreBG movement rallied for her release; the chilling prisoner swap with Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout; and her remarkable rise from hostage to global spokesperson on behalf of America’s forgotten. In haunting and vivid detail, Brittney takes readers inside the horrors of a geopolitical nightmare spanning ten months.   And yet Coming Home is more than Brittney’s journey from captivity to freedom. In an account as gripping as it is poignant, she shares how her deep love for Cherelle, her college sweetheart and wife of six years, anchored her during their greatest storm; how her family’s support pulled her back from the brink; and how hundreds of letters from friends and neighbors lent her resolve to keep fighting. Coming Home is both a story of survival and a testament to love—the bonds that brought Brittney home to her family, and at last, to herself.

It was August 4th. It had been six months since Griner was pulled out of a security line at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. Officials found vape cartridges with traces of hashish oil—seven tenths of a gram, roughly the weight of a small raisin—in her bag. Griner told the court she hadn’t known that the cartridges were there; she’d packed in haste, while recovering from covid, rushing to join the other members of U.M.M.C. Ekaterinburg, the Russian team that Griner plays for during the W.N.B.A. offseason. (Top players can make six to seven times their W.N.B.A. salaries overseas.) Doctors in Arizona had prescribed her cannabis to help her deal with pain after more than a decade of sustaining injuries. She hadn’t meant to bring any drugs into Russia, and hadn’t realized what was happening to her as the nightmare unfolded. During her detainment at the airport, the translator had been withholding; Griner had to resort to the Google translate app to understand what people were saying. She’d been forced to sign papers without knowing what was on them, she said. Her phone was seized, and she was taken to prison. The maximum sentence for the charges was ten years.
Griner shared a cell with two other English-speaking women, in a prison that was once an orphanage. Her bed was too short for her to stretch out on. After breakfast, the inmates would go for walks in the courtyard; an old bust of Lenin looked on.
Somehow, she managed to hold onto some of that joyousness even in prison. When her teammate Brianna Turner wrote Griner, and told her that she was being made an honorary All Star, Griner joked that she would have “the worst stat line in the history of the All Star Game”—zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists. Griner’s sense of humor in her letters “did surprise me, but it does speak to the kind of the person she is—the life of the party, the one who always makes people laugh,” Turner said. Still, those who knew Griner best were worried when they saw the pictures and video of her in the courtroom. “My wife is struggling, and we have to help her,” Cherelle Griner told the media, explaining her decision to push more aggressively for Griner’s release after months of remaining quiet. When a planned call between Cherelle and Griner failed to happen because of a mixup at the U.S. embassy in Moscow, Griner sent a letter to President Joe Biden. “As I sit here in a Russian prison,” she wrote, “alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever.”

Today's Black History Month illustration is of James “Jimmy Jam“ Harris III & Terry Lewis, one of the greatest producing duo in the history of music.
Tumblr media
They’re known for their funky synth heavy grooves and their melodic basslines as well as their dark sunglasses, black suits, and black fedoras.
Tumblr media
Both Jam and Lewis grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they first met in high school (early 1970s) at the University of Minnesota through their Upward Bound program. They grew up listening to different genres. Jam was a pop fan, so he listened to artists such as Seals and Crofts, America, and Chicago. Lewis like artists like Parliament-Funkadelic and Earth, Wind and Fire.
After their time in the Upward Bound program, they stayed friends and played in rival bands against Prince and Morris Day. In the early 80s, Jam convinced Harris to join his band Flyte Tyme. Soon after, Morris Day and Lewis agreed to form the group The Time because of a deal Day made with Prince. While in The Time, they became innovators of the Minneapolis sound, a blend of jazz, soul, R&B, funk, disco, early punk, new wave, and dance.
Tumblr media
After The Time’s spot as the opening act on Prince’s Controversy tour was over, Jam and Lewis decided to go to LA and begin creating demos. Their demos eventually landed at Solar Records with Dick Griffey. While Harris and Lewis were busy producing the SOS Band in LA, they ended up missing an important gig with The Time in Atlanta, GA. Because of this, Prince fired them.
After this, they decided to form Flyte Time Productions in 1982. After forming Flyte Tyme Productions, they produced and wrote a string of R&B hits for artists including Gladys Knight, Cheryl Lynn, Force MDs, and Cherelle.
Tumblr media
When they were looking for the next artist to work with, they both agreed on the one and only Janet Jackson. While working on her album Control (1986), they continued to refine their songwriting and production skills and also created the basis of the genre “New Jack Swing.”
Tumblr media
Here’s a clip of Jam and Lewis in studio with Donnie Simpson:
After the success of Control, they had over three decades of chart topping Billboard singles and albums over various genres. Together, Jam and Lewis have earned more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum, and diamond albums and they have more Billboard number ones than any other songwriting and production team in history.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another illustration and story!

Brittney Griner’s Supporters Have a New Strategy to Free Her: Make Noise
Those close to Griner pursued a strategy of silence after her detention in Russia in February, hoping to avoid politicizing her case. Now they are amping up public pressure, with some of it aimed at President Biden.
Her face is on hoodies. Her name is in hashtags. Her “B.G.” and number are on fans’ jerseys and W.N.B.A. courts.
As the Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner waits in Russia, detained since Feb. 17 on drug charges, symbols of support for her are all around. They come from people who don’t know her at all and people who know and love her — from teammates, sympathizers and former coaches.
Dawn Staley, who coached Griner and her U.S. teammates to a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics last year, said she thinks about her every day.
“I know Brittney, I’ve been around her, know her heart. I know what she’s about,” Staley said. “And if she’s being wrongfully detained or not, I would be advocating for her release because nobody should be in a foreign country locked up abroad.”
Staley has posted messages on Twitter about Griner every day since early May. “Can you please free our friend,” she wrote on Tuesday, tagging the official account for the White House. She added, “All of her loved ones would sleep a little easier.”
It has been more than three months since Griner was detained, accused of having hashish oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow. But only in the last few weeks has there been a coordinated public campaign by W.N.B.A. players and by Griner’s wife, family, friends and agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, to push for her release. That’s where the hoodies — worn by many different players — and the initials — displayed on W.N.B.A. courts — come in. The #WeAreBG hashtag seen on warm-up shirts and social media is also part of the campaign.
The delay in starting the campaign was strategic: Griner’s camp was worried that publicity could make the situation worse because of tensions between Russia and the United States, including the war in Ukraine. But the delay has also been a source of frustration for women’s basketball players known for their social justice advocacy. Their approach has changed since the State Department said on May 3 that it had determined that Griner had been “wrongfully detained.”
“Griner’s reclassification as wrongfully detained by the U.S. government cued our shift to the more public activist elements of our strategy,” Kagawa Colas said, adding that she could not elaborate out of respect for the sensitivity of the situation.
Supporters have quickly joined in the new approach.
“We’re more public,” said Terri Jackson, the executive director of the W.N.B.A. players’ union. One reason, she said, was the State Department’s determination, and another was the guidance of Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner.
“She’s lead on this,” Jackson said. “She signaled through her team that she needed us, and that’s all we needed to hear.”
Cherelle Griner appeared on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday and appealed to President Biden to intervene.
“I just keep hearing that he has the power,” Cherelle Griner said. “She’s a political pawn. If they’re holding her because they want you to do something, then I want you to do it.”
The State Department’s announcement this month said that Biden’s special envoy for hostage affairs would lead an interagency team to secure Griner’s release. But since then, Griner’s detention has been extended until June 18, and the Biden administration has said little about its maneuvering. Cherelle Griner said during the television interview that her only communication with her wife had been through occasional letters. She said she had been told that her wife’s release was a top priority, but she expressed skepticism.

US basketball player Brittney Griner has pleaded guilty to drug charges in a Russian court but has denied deliberately breaking the law.
The Olympic gold medallist was detained in February at an airport near Moscow when cannabis oil vape cartridges were allegedly found in her luggage.
"I was in a rush packing and the cartridges accidentally ended up in my bag," she told the court in Khimki.
Her trial began last week on charges that could mean 10 years in jail.
Griner's wife earlier called on President Joe Biden to do "whatever is necessary" to secure her release. Mr Biden told Cherelle Griner he was working to have her freed as soon as possible.
The 31-year-old basketball star, who is accused of possessing and smuggling drugs, had already sent the president a letter saying she was "terrified [she] might be here forever".
Russian government officials have warned the US not to "make noise in public about the case". "The hype and working on the public, with all the love for this genre among modern politicians, currently only disturbs" the court process, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.
"I'd like to plead guilty, your honour. But there was no intent. I didn't want to break the law," Brittney Griner told the court in English. In handcuffs and wearing a red T-shirt and trousers, she said she would like to give her testimony later and needed time to prepare. The trial was then adjourned for a week.
Griner is one of the most successful players in the women's professional league in the US, with WNBA team Phoenix Mercury. She has won WNBA and Euroleague titles as well as two Olympic golds. She had travelled to Russia to play club basketball during the off-season and has featured in EuroLeague team UMMC Ekaterinburg since 2014.
Cannabis oil is illegal in Russia, but her high-profile arrest at Sheremetyevo airport near Moscow came a week before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Relations between the US and Russia are in a parlous state and it took several months before the Biden administration made her case a priority. A US National Security Council spokeswoman said on Thursday she was wrongfully detained by Russia under "intolerable circumstances".
Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted that US embassy officials had attended Thursday's hearing and had handed Griner a letter from President Biden: "We will not relent until Brittney, Paul Whelan, and all other wrongfully detained Americans are reunited with their loved ones."
Whelan is serving a 16-year jail term on spying charges rejected by his family as nonsense.
Russia has denied that the player's detention is connected to the icy diplomatic relations with the US, but John Garamendi, a member of the US Congress, warned last month that the war could exacerbate the issue. "We don't want Ms Griner to become a pawn in the political battle that's being waged throughout the world right now."
There has been speculation that even if Brittney Griner is given a jail term Russia may be prepared to exchange her or Paul Whelan for a high-profile Russian prisoner in a US jail, such as arms dealer Viktor Bout. Dubbed "Merchant of Death", Bout was jailed for 25 years after he was caught in a US sting operation in Thailand.
Cherelle Griner earlier told a rally organised by her wife's Phoenix Mercury team: "I'm frustrated that 140 days have passed since my wife has been able to speak to me, to our family and to our friends. I'm frustrated that my wife is not going to get justice."

Biden Handcuffed on Britney Griner
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), July 6, 2022.--Hammered by the African American and Gay communities, 79-year-old President Joe Biden finds himself in the hot sea over 31-year-old, 6 foot-nine WNBA start Britney Grinerm, holed up in a Russian jail over cannabis possession on Feb. 17.  Griner wrote a handwritten not July 4 to Biden telling him not to forget about her or 52-year-old former Marine Paul Whelan, whose serving out 16-year prison sentence for spying in the Russian Federation.  Griner’s case receives much more attention because she’s Black and Gay, two protected groups in today’s U.S., where a variety of lobbying groups can put enormous pressure on the White House.  Britney’s spouse, Cherelle, believe the White House or the State Department haven’t done enough to get Britney set free.  “I will not be quiet anymore,” Cherelle said,.  “They’re not moving, they’re not doing anything,” referring to the Biden White House.
Cherelle wants more action on her wife because she heard in her communications a distress call.  “So my wife is struggling, and we have to help her,” Chrerlle said.  But what Cherelle and other special interest groups protecting Black and Gay rights not get is that the Biden White House has horrific relations with the Russian Federation.  Under the best of circumstances, it would be difficult to cut a deal to get Britney out.  But under current circumstances, U.S.-Russian relations are at a post-WW II low, all because Biden chose to name-call, saying 69-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin a “soulless killer,” March 18, 2021, early on in his presidency.  When the war started Feb. 24, no one imagined that the White House would join the fight against Putin and the Russian Federation, making hostage negotiations all but impossible.  Biden has burnt all his bridges with the Russian Federation, something Cherelle doesn’t understand.
Normally, in past administrations dating back to President Harry Trump, the U.S. has had workable, pragmatic relations with the former Soviet Union or its successor the Russian Federation.  Former President Donald Trump had excellent relations with the Kremlin, despite constant accusations about coddling dictators or colluding with the Kremlin.  Democrats and the U.S. media made it impossible for Trump to develop solid relations with the Kremlin, but somehow, because of his social skills, still managed to keep close relations.  Democrats and the U.S. press did everything possible to sabotage Trump’s relations with Putin.  So, now that Biden wrecked U.S.-Russia relations, all the press says is that Putin is a “butcher and war criminal,” making relations with the Kremlin near impossible. So, when it comes to getting Griner out, Biden and press have made it next to impossible.
Negotiations to get out former Marine Trevor Reed were successful back in April, right after Biden announced March 26 in Warsaw, Poland, that Putin should not remain in power.  “We won’t stop until Paul Wheland and others join Trevor in the loving arms of family and friends,” Biden said in a statements.  Cherelle didn’t like that Biden didn’t name Britney in his message.  “This isn’t just about Britney,” said Kemberly St. Julian-Varnon, University of Pennslyvania scholar specialized in Black identify in the Soviet Union.  “Paul Whelan has been held in Russian form more than four years.  He’s a straight white man.  We have to think both of their case in the context of international foreign policy,” St. Julian-Varnon said.  St. Julian-Varnon is too close to her subject to recognize that U.S.-Russian relations are at an all time low, especially because Biden chose to start a proxy war against the Russian Federation.
Whatever Britney Griner’s race or sexual orientation, it has nothing to do with why the State Department has its hands tied in terms of high-end Russian diplomacy.  Never before in history, has the U.S. been in a proxy war, with Ukrainian troops, to topple the Russian Federation.  Whether Briney’s race or sexual identity helps or not, getting release from Russian custody, the biggest stumbling block is the U.S. proxy war in Ukraine against the Russian Federation.  If Biden really cared about getting Britney released, he’ll have to make some big concessions on Ukraine, something he’s not prepared to do.  As long as Biden supplies the latest lethal weapons to Ukraine, Putin won’t be inclined to let Griner out of jail.  Biden has nearly broken off all diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, leaving high end diplomacy all but impossible until something’s done in Ukraine.
Whatever 59-year-old Secretary of State Antony Blinken does to get Griner out of a Russian jail, it’s all linked to better U.S.-Russian  relations. Blinken, who goes to a G20 meeting this week in Bali, Indonesia, is refusing to meet with 72-year-old Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.  State Department Spokesman Ned Price has already said Blinken has no plans of meeting with Lavrov, because of the Ukraine War.  As long as Blinken take an holier-than-thou attitude, it’s doubtful they’ll have much success with Griner’s case.  Blinken should do everything possible to mend fences with Lavrov, even if it involves sucking it up on Ukraine.  You can’t expect any progress on Griner unless the two sides are talking again. Blinken has a perfect chance this weekend to talk to Lavrov about Griner.  As long a Biden and Blinken refuse to talk to Russia, things don’t look good for Griner.

The old Lchat wnba boards are a complete hot mess, but going back to 2016/17, there’s just a TON about BG. And most of it is pretty bad. Did her ex really go do IVF without BG’s knowledge? Or were those kids conceived the old fashioned way with a man. Sounds super messy. And did BG really cheat repeatedly on sweet Cherelle?
Listen... it's a lot.
What you need to understand about BG is she was the original basketball social media content creator personality. Her high school dunking video was the first viral amateur basketball video to reach 1 million views. This was back in like 2008 when 1 million views was a big deal. She became a superstar as a teenager.
And then she went to Baylor and her life just got weirder and weirder under the Mulkey dictatorship. But Baylor wasn't all bad because she won a national championship and met the love of her life.
But Cherelle had her own ambitions. She had things to do. She couldn't fly around the world with BG. They broke up during BG's rookie year but they stayed friends. BG brought some other random girl to China that first year she played overseas. And then she cheated on that girl with a straight all-star center named Glory Johnson.
Why? I don't know. But BG was drafted to the Mercury where all her teammates were ideal veteran lesbian basketball couples. Dewanna and Dupree. Diana and Penny. Ballers with ballers, buying homes together, hosting dinner parties, raising dogs. Very cool and mature lesbian aunties. Basically the exact opposite of BG's young wild self. But I think BG admired them. So she wanted to settle down and marry another basketball player. Immediately.
Glory's agent was connected to the reality TV/TMZ world. So Glory had an interest in social media personalities and rockstars and celebrities. And BG was all of those things. So halfway through BG's second pro year, she proposed to Glory Johnson.
Now why is all this crazy shit happening? Well, BG had weird enablers and fake friends hanging around her back then mooching off her stardom. And the social media rockstar thing had really spiraled out of control.
BG was insecure about her relationship with Glory because, well, Glory is straight. And Glory had a boyfriend. But BG was genuinely obsessed with Glory and afraid she would leave her. So when Glory asked BG to donate her eggs, BG said yes. There was nothing secret about the IVF appointment. BG was there at the appointment getting her eggs removed and placed in Glory's uterus. BG later said she didn't want kids at all and felt pressured into it.
Not long after the IVF appointment, BG and Glory got married. And a few weeks after that, BG came to her senses and tried to have the marriage annulled.
It all started with flirting at 2014 all-star. Then the proposal, the big TMZ fight, the reality TV appearances, the IVF appointment, the marriage, the annulment attempt. That all happened in the span of about 9 months. And then in 2015 the divorce court cases started. So yes, BG pays child support because she is technically the biological mother of Glory's giant twin daughters.
After this whole mess, Diana brought BG to Ekaterinburg. That's when they kind of shut down the whole BG social media rockstar era. They talk a little bit about it in this article.
BG had another random girlfriend in 2017. And then she got tired of that and married her best friend and college sweetheart Cherelle in 2018. And then BG and Cherelle really did become cool and mature lesbian aunties.
When BG was 24 years old, she made some mind-numbingly stupid decisions and turned her entire life upside down. In some ways, people were taking advantage of her stardom and youth and naivety. But oh well. She helped TMZ pay their bills in 2015.

[ad_1] Basketball star Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges in a Russian courtroom on Thursday, but not before she was handed a note from President Joe Biden. With the hope that a guilty plea might be her best shot at a lenient sentence in what experts fear is a sham trial, the WBNA player admitted to taking hashish oil into Russia by accident because she had been in a hurry when she packed."Brittney sets an example of being brave. She decided to take full responsibility for her actions as she knows that she is a role model for many people," read a statement from Griner's Russian legal team, Maria Blagovolina from the firm Rybalkin Gortsunyan Dyakin and Alexander Boykov from the Moscow Legal Center."Considering the nature of her case, the insignificant amount of the substance and BG’s personality and history of positive contributions to global and Russian sport, the defense hopes that the plea will be considered by the court as a mitigating factor and there will be no severe sentence," the lawyers said. The attorneys said they expected Griner's trial to conclude around the start of August.Griner has been detained in Russia for more than four months after authorities said they found small amounts of hash oil in vape pens in her luggage."Brittney has admitted to making a mistake, and I hope the Russian authorities recognize that humbling act and respond with compassion,” Rev. Al Sharpton said in a statement passed on by Griner's team.Sharpton, Britney's wife Cherelle, and WNBA players will rally on Friday in Chicago to call for her release. They fear that Griner, who faces a maximum sentence of 10 years, is being used as a bargaining chip by Moscow against Washington amid the fallout from Russia's invasion of Ukraine."She is in the fight of her life right now, which is why we’ll be in Chicago to show our support for Brittney and for the Administration and their efforts to bring her home as soon as possible," Sharpton said. "We must all continue to pray she finds strength through this challenging time.”Griner's guilty plea came a day after Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris called Cherelle Griner to offer assurances that his administration is working to free the basketball star. That call came after Cherelle Griner criticized Biden for not meeting with her to discuss the case.As she arrived in court on Thursday, Brittney Griner was given a note from Biden which he had earlier read to her wife over the phone. The message was in response to one the basketball player had written to the president on July 4, begging for freedom."As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever," Griner wrote. Lil Snupe Girlfriend Alexis Cherelle Death- Where Is She?
Lil Snupe Girlfriend Alexis Cherelle Death- Where Is She?
People are trying to know about late rapper Lil Snupe’s girlfriend, Alexis Cherelle, as they might have been together before his death.  Born in Jonesboro, Louisiana, on June 13, 1995, Darren Ross, also known as Lil Snupe, was an American rapper who passed away on June 20, 2013, at 18.
