Relationships: Casey McCall/Dan Rydell; Casey McCall & Dana Whitaker (Sports Night)
Word Count: 7.3k

Summary: “You know, I can see why Dana thinks you need to be made an honest man of,” he says conversationally, amazed at his own talent for sounding this cognizant with his foot so far in his own mouth.

Casey has feelings, and realizations, and many, many roundabout conversations. More or less in that order.

Big George Foreman (12): A "Lean, Mean, Grilling Machine"... but mostly boxing.
#onemannsmovies review of "Big George Foreman" (2023). #ForemanMovie. Solid but staid telling of a remarkable life story. 3.5/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “Big George Foreman” (2023). (The full title is “Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story Of The Once And Future Heavyweight Champion Of The World”, but who on earth can be bothered with that!) “Big George Foreman” is a biopic on the remarkable true story of the boxing champ George Foreman. And it really is an incredible tale. Being of a certain age, I was…

In a bombshell revelation, former Representative Denver Riggleman (R-Va.) said former President Donald Trump White House’s links to the insurrection “need to be explored more.”
“You get a real ‘a-ha’ moment when you see that the White House switchboard had connected to a rioter’s phone while it’s happening,” Riggleman said in a released clip from an upcoming episode of “60 Minutes,” which is set to air on Sunday night.
Tumblr media
Riggleman served as a Republican Congressman until 2021 and worked as an adviser to the January 6 Committee until April.
When host Bill Whitaker asked if the call from the White House could have been an accident, Riggleman replied: “When the White House just happened to call numbers, that somebody misdialed a rioter that day, on January 6th? Probably not.”
The former Congressman also said that he knows who the rioter is, but doesn’t know who was on the line at the White House.
Representatives for neither Trump nor the January 6 Committee have responded to requests for comment, according to Newsweek.
Bill Kristol, former chief of staff to former Vice President Dan Quayle, expressed concern for such a call in a tweet: “I placed many calls through the wonderful people at the White House switchboard during an earlier Republican Administration. I'm confident I never asked them to connect me with someone assaulting the U.S. Capitol. But that was a different era and a different Republican party.”
Tumblr media
Riggleman was rebuked by the Committee in June, when he spoke about the findings of the Committee in a CNN interview. House Committee staff director David Buckley wrote in an internal email: “[Riggleman’s] specific discussion about the content of subpoenaed records, our contracts, contractors and methodologies, and your hard work is unnerving.” He added that Riggleman’s television appearance was “in direct contravention to his employment agreement.”
Riggleman disagreed, saying he spoke to CNN after he left the Committee, so was no longer bound to such agreements.
The news of the White House phone connection comes days before the (potential) final January 6 Committee hearing is scheduled to air on September 28.
The Capitol rioter who received a perplexing nine-second phone call from inside the White House on the afternoon of January 6, 2021, has been identified by CNN.
Anton Lunyk, 26, had already left the Capitol premises that day when his phone rang at 4:34 p.m., according to records reviewed by the outlet. The call came from the White House's publicly available phone number just minutes after former President Donald Trump posted a video encouraging his supporters to "go home," telling them, "we love you, you're very special," CNN reported.
The revelation of Lunyk's identity as the mysterious call recipient comes after a former technical advisor to the the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection said Friday that he traced a call between a rioter and the White House switchboard during the attack.
"You get a real 'a-ha' moment when you see that the White House switchboard had connected to a rioter's phone while it's happening," Denver Riggleman, a former Republican Congressman , whose unauthorized "behind-the-scenes" book on the probe is set to be published later this week, told 60 Minutes. "That's a big, pretty big 'a-ha' moment."
Members of the January 6 House Select Committee have since downplayed Riggleman's role with the panel — as well as the importance of the phone call — suggesting that Riggleman is "overstating" the incident.
An anonymous source told CNN that the Committee is still investigating the nature of the phone call, but has thus far been unable to uncover who made it — or why.
What has been made clear this week, however, is who received the call: Anton Lunyk — who claims he doesn't remember getting the ring and says he doesn't know anyone who worked in the Trump White House, according to CNN's sources.
Tumblr media
Lunyk, of Brooklyn, New York, was initially charged with five counts related to his role in the riot, including violent entry, disorderly and disruptive conduct, and entering or remaining in a restricted building. But in April, he pleaded guilty to just one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, 60 hours of community service, and a restitution fine in September.
Prosecutors said Lunyk traveled to Washington, DC, the evening before the riot with two of his friends, Francis Connor and Antonio Ferrigno. The three men first attended the "Stop the Steal" rally before joining the mob of Trump supporters in walking to the US Capitol, where the crowd laid siege to the building.
Photos of Lunyk inside the Capitol show him wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat, and videos from the scene captured Lunyk and his friends laughing and recording on their cellphones while in the building, according to court documents.
A sentencing memorandum revealed that Lunyk and his friends made violent jokes about Democratic lawmakers in the days after the November 2020 election, alleging that the presidency had been "stolen."
"If they take my money I'm gonna shoot Pelosi," Lunyk said in a message to Connor, Ferrigno, and others on January 12, 2021.
The trio spent approximately 10 minutes inside the Capitol before exiting through a window, prosecutors said. They had been out of the building for nearly an hour and a half when Lunyk's phone rang, according to CNN, and photographic evidence suggests the friends were already on their way back to New York when the call came through.
There is no mention of the phone call in any court records related to Lunyk's case, and an attorney for him did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

You sigh as you look up at the ceiling of your bedroom and then look at your watch. Four a.m. You look to your right as see Christian sleeping soundly in your bed, so you carefully slip out of bed, grab your phone, and walk to your adjoining office.
Tumblr media
Your phone dings and you see it's a text from Jake, so you open it up.
Tumblr media
'Miss you.' The text read.
'Miss you too. At least you look like you know what you're doing in this pic. LOL!' You text back.
Just as you sit down, your phone rings that you have a facetime with Jake call.
You answer. "Hey, hot stuff!"
Tumblr media
"Hey, Darlin! What are you doing up?"
You sigh. "I couldn't sleep."
"Worried about court?"
You shrug. "A little bit. Just confused about a conversation I had yesterday."
"About?"
"Well, I went hunting with Scott."
Tumblr media
"Who's Scott?"
"Scott Deboer is a co-worker and friend. Well, I think he's still a friend. He got upset when I told him I got married and apparently he'd been trying to ask me out for the past two years."
Tumblr media
"Well, apparently he didn't have as much charm as me."
You smile and laugh. "Is that what it was?"
"Darlin. You sure as hell can't resist it."
You grin as you feel your cheeks get warm.
"I wouldn't worry about him, Y/N."
"Well, work is going to be a bit awkward. He was always a good friend."
"Was he? Or was he always just trying to get into your pants? I mean, it's not like I didn't think like that when I met you."
You roll your eyes. "And there's the cocky ego Phoenix warned me about."
Jake laughs. "Speaking of Phoenix. She says hi."
"Tell her I say hi back."
"Are you going hunting again today?"
"No. I got lucky and bagged a nice size tom turkey yesterday. He's already in the freezer for Thanksgiving."
Tumblr media
"That's my girl!"
"Hangman! We gotta go!" someone yells in the background.
"Darlin. I gotta go. You'll get through the work thing. You're a Seresin now. Love you."
"Love you, too."
Jake hangs up and after you hang up, you look to your left where the wedding picture of you and Christian sat on your desk. You pick it up and look at it. "You would like him, Christian. You'd definitely approve of him too with little Christian." You take your finger and gently touch Christian's face on the frame. "I will always love you and have a space for you in my heart. I wish you could've met your son." You kiss the frame, put it back on your desk, and get up to go take a shower.
Tumblr media
Later that night, Mr. Thadeus Whitaker arrived at your house around six-thirty for dinner. Mr. Whitaker came from a family of attorneys, and he'd been part of the Astor family for years. As a matter of fact, he father and grandfather before him had worked for the Astor family. That's how long his family tree had been associated with the Astor's. In his sixties, he stood about five foot seven with a white ring of hair around his head and wore glasses.
Tumblr media
You hugged when you met him at the front door as Montgomery took his coat and Christian followed at your heals.
"Y/N! It's so good to see you! Too bad its under sad circumstances."
"It's no problem. How is your son?"
"David is doing good. He's looking forward to starting with your family."
"That's great to hear!"
"Whitker!" Christian exclaimed.
Mr. Whitaker looked down at Christian. "Master Christian. It's so good to see you." Whitaker put his hand out for a shake and Christian put his small hand in it as they greeted. "Such wonderful manners."
You pick up Christian. "Jake said the same thing. He also said Christian would be a lady killer when he grew up," you say with a laugh.
"From what little conversation I've had with Lieutenant Seresin, he seems like a really nice guy. He wanted to make sure everything was taken care of before he left."
"That sounds like Jake."
"This way to the dining room," Montgomery said to Whitaker and you lead the way.
"You hungry?" You ask Christian who nods his head up and down. "Good."
Tumblr media
You enter the dining room and put Christian in his highchair. "Please, have a seat, Mr. Whitaker." You sit across from him at the end of the table near Christian. "So, please explain what I should be prepared for tomorrow," you insist as you sit down.
"I'm sure Celine will contest the restraining order and the length of knowing Lieutenant Seresin since you got married a week and a half after knowing each other."
Tumblr media
Montgomery brought in salads.
"I only knew Christian three weeks before we got eloped and boy, let me tell you, that was interesting when I met his parents." You start to eat your salad.
"That is true." He took a bite of his salad. "Have you heard from the Lieutenant?"
"Yes. We facetimed this morning."
"That's good."
"Jake doesn't care about the money, I know that. He loves me and Christian so I'm going to assume, and you know I hate that word, it's about the money with Celine."
"I can't agree with you more. Christian and your father-in-law made it quite impossible for Celine to get the money. They both adored and trusted you."
"I always wondered what Charles Astor saw in her."
"That's a story for another day," Whitaker replied after finishing his salad.
Montgomery took the salad plates and returned with venison roast.
Tumblr media
Whitaker admired the food placed in front of him. "Let's not ruin the moment and discuss that another day. Let's just enjoy dinner. How was your trip?"
Tumblr media
You smile as you take a sip of your wine. "It was good."

Stex Appreciation Month Day 5: Rusty!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favourite Actor: Hard to choose! I think all Rustys are great, but my favourites are - Max Rizzo and Delano Willemsen because I got to see them live! But I also love Paul Whitaker, James Gillan, Colin Munro, Paul Baker, Rommel Singson, Greg Mowry, Dan Ellison, Sean McDermott, Steven Skeels, Jeffrey Socia, Bernie Blanks, Michael Pickering, Markus Fetter, Blake Patrick Anderson, Dolan Jose, Franklyn Warfield, Marcel Brauneis, and Kevin Kohler.
Favourite Song/Scene: Engine of Love, Crazy, Call Me Rusty, Starlight Express, Starlight Sequence...... literally every song/scene he's in.
Favourite Costume: The current Bochum production! The costume is so pretty and the hat is so cute! I do love the little white button they stuck on their nose in the OLC production though ❤
Favourite Ship: Steam Press (Rusty and Update!Caboose) all the way! I also love Rusty/CB, Electra/Rusty, Ruhrgold/Rusty, Brexit/Rusty, Dinah/Rusty.
Headcanon:
Most people know this already but I headcanon Rusty as Italian and Espresso is his cousin!
Rusty can make really yummy Italian dishes that are to die for.
Rusty is very insecure about his looks but over time, his confidence grows and learns to love who he is. He still has bad days, of course but he’s a confident boy.
Unpopular Opinion: They really need to cast more POC actors as Rusty. Also, as much as I love Engine of Love, Call Me Rusty is far more superior and to me, explains more about him etc.

just watched flux… this will offend someone but i have to say that it was objectively the worst season of anything i have ever seen (ever) and i had to force myself through it. i cannot fathom ever rewatching it. the plot was so scattered (not in a good doctor whoish way) and boring. yaz is as bland as ever. dan is just fine. swarm was underwhelming. i’m honestly offended by how ch*bnall is watering down every enemy that was once cool. i love jodie whitaker but her doctor is so boring i wanted to cry. i will have a more concise review later but had to rant for a second because i am actually outraged. don’t boo me i’m right!!!!!

Just finished Power of the Doctor.
I cried by the end. I cried.
---
I already miss Thirteen so much.
I have such mixed feelings on Chibnall's run. I wanted him to bring it back out of the wanky "Epic" feel of the Unstoppable Doctor Who Makes Grand Monologuing Speeches About How Great He Is era of the show (commonly shortened to the "Moffat Era"). And he did do that, and he made some great episodes all the same. I honestly really applaud series 11 for trying something new, and y'all can miss me with that hater shit about the P'Ting and the Stenza. I had some great Tumblr conversations due to that season too. Demons of the Punjab was the one episode since the 50th anniversary special that I liked the most of this show, and the Village of the Angels was at the exact same level.
But at the same time, Christ - Orphan 57 or whatever? Arachnids in the UK? The complete, flummoxing failure of the Flux? I've turned on Chibnall pretty hard. But I never once turned on Jodie Whitaker's Doctor, because she CARRIED this run through thick and thin - her and Mandip Gill, who I PRAY gets a career blow-up out of this.
Thirteen was such a good Doctor. Behind Ten - and yeah, I know Ten is a total normie pick - Thirteen was my favorite Doctor ever, on the strength of Jodie Whitaker's performance.
And that's why I fucking miss her already. She was so good.
Russell T. Davies was a dream pick for the new showrunner, and we'll never get a Thirteen episode penned by him or showran by him. I'm glad to have him back, but my god, I want my cake and I want to eat it too. Just like Yaz at the end there, I suppose.
I wasn't sure I was gonna like Tennant returning - which I was spoiled for due to filming leaks, though I also saw a gif of his first scene at the end of the episode and that bugged me. But that scene was stupidly well-acted???? I'm actually that much more on-board than I expected. I'm looking forward to the specials.
The one nitpick I had is that I was hoping Thirteen and Yasmin would have one kiss. Again, cake and the eating thereof. I get why they didn't, and there was a callback to the Sea Devils episode so like I get it, but man.
This episode was like the 50th anniversary special, in that for all of my cynicism and jadedness about this run of the show, I bought into it wholesale. Sasha Dhawan's Master was a fucking delight, as always. Giggling nerdboy psycho? Very well done. Rasputin? Indescribable. It was so well-acted.
And the plot?! Fuckin, forcing the Doctor to regenerate into the Master, and then using the Cyber-Masters to reverse the effect? Poetic fucking cinema. Hoisted by his own petard, excellent. Paying off the end of series 12, perfect.
Bit sad about the traitor Dalek - which once again, was a total highlight. This episode came together indescribably well. I was worried when I saw Chibnall was the sole writer, but by gum he held this special together tooth and claw and it owned.
The classic rep felt fantastic, though I'm not a Classic fan. I'm Modern through and through, with respect and love to the classic series and the fans of which. I can only hope those small Doctor moments with Tegan and Ace resonated with the classic crowd as much as I enjoyed them.
One last nitpick, Dan didn't come back and save the day. I was hoping for a sneaky Dan comeback. But I think the end scene with the support group was a fantastic touch, not just for Dan to close out his run but to have that last push of classic series representation.
Jodie Whitaker deserved better - when Chibnall was good, he was on fire. I like his great episodes more than most of Moffat's episodes during his turn as showrunner. I adored Thirteen, I adored Jodie Whitaker's chemistry with Mandip Gill. I adore her tinkerer characterisation, the love of learning and of giving other people that Eureka moment. I wasn't happy when the show made her more closed off and brooding - I got it, but until this episode I felt like she had such a hard time letting other people in and it really bothered me. And yet she was always a highlight of this show, her character and Jodie Whitaker's performance.
I will never not rep Thirteen. She was fan-fucking-tastic. And I already miss her so much.
Best episode of Chibnall's run. One of the best episodes of the revival, period. He messed up the run and snapped the pole, but he cleared the long jump and nailed the landing.
