Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Though these frogs look very pretty, admirers must be very careful never to-- wait, no, false alarm! Ranitomeya imitator is better known as the mimic poison dart frog, due to its uncanny resemblence to its deadly relatives. The bright colors help keep predators away, and but their skin is only mildly toxic. R. imitator isn't the only species that's become a copy cat; a number of South American frogs have adopted this tactic with varying degrees of success.

They decided to shelter on the bromeliad while I was doing tank maintenance and it gave me a good chance to get a few good pictures! You can really see how BLUE little Wirt’s legs are, and how much bigger Beatrice is than Wirt

A stunning individual of granular poison frog (Oophaga granulifera) from Sierpe region in Costa Rica. These tiny jewel really rivaled with Oophaga pumilio in beauty and skin texture (I really like the granulated skin of this species). Shot during my short visit with my friend and amazing guide @sierpe_frogs Equipment: Nikon Z9, 60mm afs macro, Godox mf12 flashes with custom diffuser. @nikonitalia @godox_global #herping #costarica #picoftheday #frog #poisondartfrog #oophagagranulifera #sierpe #osapeninsula #dendrobatidae #amphibian https://www.instagram.com/p/CgvSlX3vHSg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The most poisonous of the poison-dart frog family (Dendrobatidae) is the golden dart frog (Phyllobates terribilis). They might even be the most poisonous animal in the world.

What is the smartest frog?
Frog intelligence has not been quantified nearly well enough. That being said, some frogs have a spatial memory of their environment and use that knowledge to navigate it (Pašukonis et al. 2016). This amounts to a 'cognitive map', which is apparently a big deal (Liu et al. 2019). The very limited work that has been done seems to indicate that at least some poison dart frogs (Dendrobatidae) perform better than at least some other frogs (Engystomops pustulosus, Leptodactylidae) (Liu et al. 2020).

Matança Zumbido (Portuguese: Buzz Kill)
Tumblr media
Matança Zumbido are able to generate massive amounts of bio-electricity. It is often seen dancing across their skin during times of aggravation or before an attack. Anyone killed by their discharge looks like they were struck by lightning, with scorched skin along with fractured skulls, teeth, and blown out eyes. They also have control over their discharge and can ensure that only their target is affected while everything else in the room is untouched. Electronic appliances tend to go on the fritz around Matança Zumbido if they are emotionally unstable, turning on and off, even if the appliances in question are not hooked up to a power grid. They also give off incredible levels of EMF. The only way for a person to become immune to their shock is to pierce their own ear and rub in a paste made from the ground up skin of an Anura dendrobatidae, a species of poison dart frog.Upon death, Matança Zumbido give off a powerful electric pulse. This pulse can knock people within the immediate range several feet back, but it doesn't harm them otherwise. It also shatters any fragile object within a considerable range.
Matança Zumbido appear to be somewhat possessive and do not like when their spouse cheats. It is also possible for them to go insane over traumatic events. On the other hand, they are noted to be a Wesen that is considered horrifying and extremely dangerous when provoked or confronted.

Being in Costa Rica means I could find some of the iconic species and morphs of frogs that live here. One is surely the amazing “blue-jeans” morph of the Strawberry poison dart frog (Oophaga pumilio). I choose to shoot it with my special custom built lens based on the Laowa 85mm ultra macro and a cctv lens. #oophaga #oophagapumilio #frog #dendrobatidae #costarica #puravida #amphibianconservation #amphibian #picofday #picoftheday @ilcp_photographers https://www.instagram.com/p/CgUJ44NAdsm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
