Getting the Facts Straight
About Chocolate and Dogs In recent weeks, there has been a popular meme circulating on social media that states: “Chocolate is toxic to dogs. It doesn’t just poison them once but is repeatedly reabsorbed into their body and poisons them many times. This is why it is so dangerous” A Science Dog reader brought the meme to my attention and asked me about its veracity. In response, I posted a…

Purina Pro Plan says they have multiple flavor options to accommodate different dogs but I have yet to find any bag of food that does not contain beef fat.
Why does salmon and rice food have beef in it?? 🤬

CAN DOGS EAT TAKIS?
youtube
ONE
Takis contain Onion powder or onion powder derivatives.
Onions are toxic to dogs and can cause Canine hemolytic anemia.
Canine hemolytic anemia means that your dog’s red blood cells are being destroyed.
Red blood cells are essential for oxygen transport in your dog’s body.
Your dog is likely to be sluggish, may appear confused and have fever.
Worst case?, it may even be lethal.
TWO
Takis are highly processed food.
A 100g bag of takis contains 30g of fat and 10g of salt which can cause digestive and heart problems.
In addition, Takis contain soy based products.
Soy is a known allergen for dogs, which can also have lethal effects on your dog.
THREE
The takis shape and size is a choking hazard.
We all know dogs do not chew as we do and gulp their food.
Takis can remain lodged in your dog’s throat, especially if your pooch is small.
In short, do not feed takis to your dog, ever.

How Do Dogs Prefer to be Fed?
(It Depends on Who You Ask) Feeding dogs using food-delivery devices has become increasingly popular. Some owners use these gadgets as a supplement or occasional treat for their dogs, while others use them to provide all of their dogs’ meals. The general intent of providing food in this way, as opposed to a bowl, is as some type of enrichment – usually to stimulate both mental and physical…

I'm thinking of switching Whim from RC Hypo-Hydro to Purina Pro Plan Adult 7+. If she doesn't have an allergic reaction to it, it would better suit her needs. They do make a kibble that does not contain her main allergen (beef), that I want to buy, but idk if there's a risk of contamination from the beef in their other products. E-mailed the company to see what they say.

Do Dog Nutrition Supplements Really Help?
When it comes to our furry companions, ensuring they receive the best nutrition possible is a top priority for many pet owners. With an array of dog nutrition supplements available on the market, it's natural to wonder: do these supplements really make a difference in our dogs' health and well-being?
Tumblr media
The answer isn't a simple yes or no. While some supplements can indeed provide beneficial nutrients that may be lacking in a dog's diet, others may not be necessary or even potentially harmful. Let's delve into the world of dog nutrition supplements to better understand their role in our pets' health.
One of the most popular types of dog nutrition supplements is multivitamins. Just like humans, dogs require a balanced intake of vitamins and minerals to support various bodily functions. However, most commercial dog foods are formulated to meet these requirements, making additional supplementation unnecessary for dogs on a balanced diet.
That being said, certain circumstances may warrant the use of multivitamin supplements for dogs. For example, senior dogs or those with specific health conditions may benefit from additional support to maintain their overall health and vitality. Consulting with a veterinarian is crucial in determining whether a multivitamin supplement is appropriate for your dog's individual needs.
Tumblr media
Another commonly used dog nutrition supplement is omega-3 fatty acids, typically sourced from fish oil. Omega-3s play a vital role in promoting healthy skin and coat, reducing inflammation, and supporting cognitive function. While some commercial dog foods may contain omega-3 fatty acids, supplementing with fish oil can be beneficial, especially for dogs with skin allergies, arthritis, or cognitive decline.
Probiotics are another category of dog nutrition supplements that have gained popularity in recent years. These beneficial bacteria help support a healthy gut microbiome, which is essential for proper digestion and immune function. Probiotics may be particularly beneficial for dogs with gastrointestinal issues or those undergoing antibiotic treatment, as antibiotics can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria.
When considering dog nutrition supplements, it's essential to choose high-quality products specifically formulated for dogs. Human supplements may contain ingredients that are harmful to dogs, so always opt for supplements designed for canine consumption.
In conclusion, dog nutrition supplements can indeed provide valuable support for our furry friends under certain circumstances. However, they are not a substitute for a balanced diet and should be used judiciously under the guidance of a veterinarian. By understanding your dog's individual nutritional needs and consulting with a professional, you can make informed decisions about which supplements, if any, are appropriate for your canine companion.
