BAD BUNNY x TAYLOR SWIFT: SONG SYNASTRY

I wanted to challenge myself to find a Taylor Swift song for every Bad Bunny song I love. Being my top two artists of the year, I enjoy their wide discographies so much. They are two incredibly different but incredibly talented artist. They seem to really understand how to touch fans’ souls. The songs, at their essence, should match up thematically and at least slightly sonically. This is going to be incredibly difficult, but I’m up to attempt this!

Como Antes (X100PRE) - The Story of Us (Speak Now)

Both songs talk about a past love and the parts of it that are no longer the same. They talk about what might’ve been in an upbeat way, while at the same time recognizing why things have changed. I really loved this comparison.

La Cancion (Oasis) - The Way I Loved You (Fearless TV)

This is another one of those sets of songs that talk about a past relationship, but this time focusing in on the parts that they might miss a lot despite being in new relationships. There was something about ths failed relationship that they just can’t forget.

Efecto (Un Verano Sin Ti) - Don’t Blame Me (reputation)

This set of songs talk about your love being your drug. The person you are really into is the one thing that keeps you going, and it’s completely intoxicating and all-consuming. Nothing else in their lives has been quite like this experience.

Una Vez (YHLQMDLG) - Wildest Dreams (1989)

These songs talk about “one night stands” in a way. Just the opportunity for a brief amount of time with this person that you’re really attracted to, and you want to be able to remember them and that moment forever. It seems like everything has led up to this moment with them. 

Haciendo Que Me Amas (EUTDM) - Maroon (Midnights)

This duo is a heartbreaking duo. They recognize that the relationships they had once worked but over time they just fell apart for whatever reason. The lyrics emphasize the slow falling out of a relationship that it seemed like the person really wanted to make work. 

Trellas (EUTDM) - invisible string (folklore)

These two songs work so well together because it seems to give the message of “one of these things I’m mentioning must have been the one thing I did right to lead me here to you”. It’s about serendipity and feeling like you found the one person who is truly made for you. 

Si Estuviesemos Juntos (X100PRE) - Last Kiss (Speak Now)

Another heartwrenching set of songs, these detail all of the things in a relationship that they cannot forget... but much sadder. They haven’t moved on from these significant people yet - they miss them so much and can’t stop reliving the relationship. They yearn to go back. 

Un Coco (Un Verano Sin Ti) - Red (Red TV)

This final set of songs tackle knowing that the person was wrong for you, but you just haven’t forgotten them yet. They cover the ups and downs, and they also are incredibly honest about how things may or may not have gone wrong. Still... moving on is impossible for them.
