I know we've come to an understanding that I'd let you have your privacy, and both your room and Limbo are off limits. But I had to do something. How do you intend to become Sorcerer Supreme without hard work?

Stephen: ...

Stephen: Are you even listening to me?

Illyana, lying on the bed with her headphones on and texting her friends: Eh? Are you talking to me?

Stephen: Ugh. I'm trying! Can't you see? What are you listening to, after all?

Illyana: Aggressive, softcore gay porn.

I have SO MANY feelings right now.

This is Illyana’s entry for X of Swords Handbook. They dedicated four pages to summarize her backstory and I can’t stress enough how close I am to burst into tears because Stephen’s name is the most mentioned after Colossus’ and Kitty’s.

Listen. Colossus is her brother and Kitty’s her best friend. There’s NO way Stephen would be mentioned so many times if he weren’t an important part of her life.

Of course, of course, I KNOW he’s here to give context and they shared a few adventures. That is pretty much correct. But pay close attention to the details.

Illyana is as introverted as Stephen, and she started socializing with the sorcerers at the Bar With No Doors. Does she know those sorcerers? Besides Wanda (and I’m not here to instigate their relationship because I know they’re in good terms. That’s some sorority here, folks, as should it be), does she know Jericho, Shaman, Satana, Daimon? NO, SHE WOULDN’T KNOW THEM. She’s only close to her New Mutants friends, Kitty and Colossus. Maybe Cyclops. But the other sorcerers? What reasons would she have to attend the Bar With No Doors? Unless... Unless Stephen introduced her to his friends?

I do know that Stephen and the magic team teleported the school to Limbo, but she asked Stephen first. I do know that the magic team performed a spell in Civil War II prelude, but who was leading the team? Yep, Stephen. So there’s no way you can convince me that Stephen isn’t the mediator between Illyana and the other sorcerers. There’s no way you come to me and say that Stephen never helped Illyana create bonds with other magic users. It’s right here.

Another important topic is the fact that Illyana agreed to teach at the Strange Academy. She’s been a teacher to young mutants, but now with Krakoa and all its implications, she wouldn’t have time to be a magic mentor. Yet, there she is, being all relentless with her teaching methods.

The last important part. I’ve been always felt a little displeased at how the New Avengers were forced to dive into the whole AvX mess. First of all, New Avengers should not be working with the Avengers after the whole Civil War fiasco. I know they were in good terms in New Avengers v2, but... No. I can’t take it lightly. Yes, Captain America was the leader and they were trying to compensate for his death and such. Yet... No.

What I’m trying to say is, Illyana thought present!Stephen would be unsympathetic to her cause. And that saddens me a little bit. Because poor Illyana simply knows what it feels like to be a mutant in a society that hates you. But Stephen is so much more... enlightened. I don’t think he would decline her request. He wasn’t even the Sorcerer Supreme at that time. Besides, Illyana told him the truth about the things that would happen in the present/future when she sought his mentoring. He knew they were going to fight and deep down he felt the mutants were right.

I understand her fear, and it’s both sad and beautiful that she trusts past!Stephen but is afraid of his present affiliation to the New Avengers. It’s like “I trust you to teach me but I don’t trust the people you’re hanging with currently so...”

Which is amazing because Illyana knows Stephen, and very few have this privilege. It tells a lot about their relationship. It shows that two people with trust issues and introverted natures can bond. They can relate because they know the meaning of trust. They know how hard it is to show their true colors. And they do to each other. Not on Earth-18133 where they’re indeed daughter and father, but in canon universe-616.

And oh, the entry doesn’t even mention their first encounter back in Uncanny X-Men #190, nor their current team-up in Savage Avengers. I’m not bringing to this equation the fact that Stephen illegally traveled to Krakoa only to warn Illyana about Kulan Gath. I’m not bringing to this equation how much Stephen worries about her, the main reason that drove him to do so.

Lastly, I’m also not here to remind you all that in some alternate futures, Illyana’s the Sorcerer Supreme.

Maybe I’m just overthinking it. Maybe I’m seeing things. And yet, it’s really beautiful all the same.

Affectionately or not, they’re indeed close and that’s what matters to me.

Hey, I thought you and your followers may want to know that the MCU and the shows are not earth/ universe 616. It’s now Earth-199999 according to the wiki. Just incase someone comes to you trying to say something about inaccuracies.

I can’t see the picture in anon but it does say an alias is “dimension 616”. But if you click on that link it says nothing in 616’s page about it being the MCU. I know people didn’t have really good clarification after Doctor Strange and FFH on what dimension we’ve been watching but this seemed kinda important for marvel bloggers to know.

Yes, I’m aware they’re different characters from alternate universes. On my pinned post that leads to my guides, all non-616 storylines are marked in magenta, including the comic book prelude which is part of the MCU. I also have some posts comparing Stephen’s most famous versions (live action, animated movie and comic book).

I don’t use the original Wikipedia to distinguish them because it’s not updated. Instead, I use Marvel fandom database. They’re quite accurate with alternate versions. Whenever I lack information regarding the exact Earth they come from, they got the answer (i.e., What If? Magik Become Sorcerer Supreme and The End are both part of reality 18133).

I’ve never had problem with people mixing 616 and 199999 in here, but well, I’m aware that this place is small compared to other social media websites.

Yes, it does. It wasn’t planned at first, but it ended up as a sequel for “What If: Magik Became Sorcerer Supreme?”, since the creative team was the same.

Both take place in Earth-18133, and I totally recommend it! It’s one of my favorite stories ever!

Leah Williams talks about Doctor Strange: The End

Interviewed by David Brooke from adventuresinpoortaste.com, she tells how What If? Magik Became Sorcerer Supreme influenced her team to build another level of story for Doctor Strange.

She also revealed that The End series takes place in Earth- 18133, which was chosen on purpose.

About writing the last story of Doctor Strange, she adds: “ It’s not just ‘a’ death, but the one truest and most poignant end that we, as creators, can give to these beloved heroes. It’s a speculative exercise in finding that true north and is by design what ‘The End’ line of comics hopes to accomplish. Not a hero’s death, but the end.”
