So how does Lukas feel about being turned into a merman? Does he like it, hate it or not really mind either way?

He's terrified of it. It forces him to go hiding, because the witch (Neva) who turned Lukas into a merman did so to force him do a task for him. Lukas doesn't want anything to do with that.

I'm planning on making a comic, so I can't reveal too much about the story! But Lukas is a very regular type of guy, and he would like it to stay that way. He would love to live his life in peace, but ends up in this situation where his normal life changes completely.

More character expressions! Sort of a continuation from these previous ones I made of Neva.

This time I decided to draw the other two main characters from this story of mine as well! The unfortunate main character, Lukas, who gets turned into a merman, and the himbo love interest, Marco, who really just wants to enjoy life.

...Also one furious Neva there as well, who is the villain witch who turns Lukas into a merman in the first place.

Does Lukas need freshwater or saltwater or can he tolerate both?

I can see him tolerate both, but I imagine he much prefers freshwater or at least brackish water. European perch thrive in mostly freshwater, but they can be met in some brackish water areas as well (think of the Baltic sea and estuaries for example).

How long can mer! Lukas stay out of water? Would he start drying out after a while?

I haven't thought about exact times, but technically Lukas is able to stay out of water forever when it comes to breathing. However, his skin and especially the tail part needs moisture, so he needs to be in water-- I'd say like at least every day? Dry skin gets uncomfortable for him and in the long run might even start cracking, causing injuries.

How was Lukas transformed into a merman? Was it like a curse, or did he make a deal or something Ursula-style?

This will obviously be in more detail in the comic; All Neva the witch had to do with his powers was to fool Lukas into wearing a fake tail (the kind you can swim in) and then get close enough to touch it. He cursed Lukas and fused him with the tail, thus making it real.

The fusing was actually the first idea I got, and I then started to build the story around that concept! c:

On the plus side: if merpeople don't exist in Lukas's world and he got it from trying on a costume: imagine if he gets seen by people and he is afraid at first but they're just like "wow! cool costume!"and move on

bonus points if it happens on Halloween 😂

Yesssss I think people would think of a logical, realistic explanation to seeing a man with a fish tail. O: Because there's no way magic of any kind would exist in their world, right???

Also oh my god YES Lukas would so go have fun during Halloween after some persuasion! Maybe he'd be afraid if Neva finds him, but if there's big enough of a crowd he'd feel safer. (And if Marco the fisherman was with him. ♥)

Ooooh I love the detail of Lukas's gills being on his ribs instead of the neck. I imagine it would make breathing a bit hard if he wears a shirt xD

I often wonder about these details, as I know many try to find a way to make merfolk designs as "accurate" and "realistic" as possible. I find this very interesting and admirable, but I tend to go the middle route or whatever is aesthetically more pleasing. :'D

How is Lukas adjusting to his new merman life? Where does he live now?

He cannot go back home, as merfolk are not exactly "real" in his world and he's afraid people finding out about him would bring more problems than solutions.

However, he's looking for a way to turn back, with the help of a mysterious fisherman who accidentally managed to fish him up!
