Live From New York Ch1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Mob!Bucky Barnes x OFC
Summary: He thought he was doing the right thing by leaving her. He thought he was keeping her safe.
Anslei Black was- no scratch that, she is the love of his life and her just let her go.
It has been five years and James "Bucky" Barnes is trying to leave her in the past. That is until his men come and give him some news. Anslei Black is back in New York, and she is not alone. They show him the surveillance pictures and what is staring back at him has shattered his cold heart.
Anslei isn't alone. She is with a little boy. A little boy with his steel blue eyes, a mischief smile and a Gun N Rose's T-shirt. He has a son, and he will burn New York down before he lets anything happen to them.
Warnings: mentions of guns, mentions of kidnapping and torture, swearing, protective Bucky (that’s a warning trust me 😭), mentions of threats of violence. That’s all I can think of.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Mommy I'm scared."
"Me too baby."
*************************************************************************************
His hair was black. Just like hers. His eyes were a steel blue just like the man he never knew. He couldn't believe it. He'd been staring at Steve and Tony for the past fifteen minutes and neither of them dared to move. Tony just dropped the biggest bomb, and they were all waiting for Bucky to explode and strew shrapnel.
He had a kid.
He had a kid. A little boy.
Bucky looked Tony dead in the eyes and the man flinched. "Tell me all that again, slowly." Tony looked at Steve as if to say, 'Save me'.
"Buck. Listen -" He was cut off by Bucky slamming his hand on the desk. "No! You fucking listen to yourself Steve! You've been lying to me about Anslei for years! Years. God! What if she had gotten hurt or worse?! I wouldn't have known because you two fucks lied!!"
Steve's lip twitched and he let out a scoff. "Listen to yourself Bucky!! You're the one that left her. No. Abandoned her!" Bucky flinched at that. He opened his mouth to remind Steve of his place, but Steve was on a roll. "She gave up everything for you. She lost everyone for you! Cause she loved your sorry ass, and you couldn't get over your guilt of the one fucking time she got hurt! Yes, she got hurt but she didn't die. No, you killed her the day you left her on that doorstep. Injured and alone." Steve's chest heaved with the anger he's held on to for years. Bucky blinked and looked down. Steve was right and he couldn't even be mad.
"You're right. I fucked up okay. I fuckedup and I'll never forgive myself. But this is about the past. I can't doanything about that. She has my kid and now we need to intervene. No one willever be able to touch her again. Or my kid." He straightened his back. He puton his mask of The Winter Soldier on, the most feared man in New York. "Tony, get all the information you can on Anslei and the kid. I want bank info, work, hell, I want to know when her last dentist appointment was. Everything. When you get her address, get Harley and Peter to sit on her house. Anywhere she or the kid goes, they go too."
Tony nodded at his order and left. Bucky then turned hishead to his best friend, brother, and right-hand man. "I outta knock your lights out for talkin' to me like that." Steve rolled his eyes. "You could try." Punk. Bucky took a deep breath and sat down. "I have a kid." Steve nodded and sat across from him. Steve reached over the desk and pulled the surveillance pictures towards himself. The ones that Natasha had taken two weeks ago. "Anslei still looks the same." He looked up at Bucky and Bucky nodded with a small smile.
"Still looks to good foryou. Doesn't even look like she had a baby." Steve ducked just in time to miss getting hit in the eye with a pen. "Watch it punk." Steve laughed and looked at the little boy in the picture. He was wearing jeans and a Guns N Roses t-shirt. He gave a small smile at that. The kid had Anslei's hair but Bucky's everything. He looked exactly like him. Like a carbon copy of Bucky.
In the photo, he was looking up at Anslei while she tried to clean a-scuff off his chin. The kid was smiling with mischief. He was defiantly Bucky's kid. “Poor kid got stuck with your ugly mug." Bucky smiled tightly and gestured for Steve to hand over the picture. He had a kid. With Anslei. Steve was right. He looked exactly like him. Even the dimples that only a few people have seen when he smiled. A genuine smile. "I fucked up Stevie. I fucked up leaving her. I thought maybe she'd be safer that way. Now. Now, I just wanther home. I want to meet my son. For the second fucking time in my life, I want something."
Steve eyes were glossy seeing his brother being so vulnerable. Steve cleared his throat and willed his tears away. "When was the first time?" He smiled already knowing the answer. "When I watched her clock you in the face."

I’m so terribly sorry for the long asks, I’m just trying to help you and answer your questions, I hate deviating from the topic 😭 and since I studied it… well Tocqueville is a classic, you can go for it.
So yeah a French Revolution au could end tragically with Eren’s death in the guillotine (the Revolution eats her own sons), or… go to the last section of Marie-Thérèse Charlotte’s Wikipedia article and see if you have any ideas? I genuinely like the idea of crazed revolutionary Eren meeting aristocrat Mikasa and realizing that not all nobles are inveterate tyrants and horrible people
Oh, please don't apologize! It's very helpful. This all originally started because I wanted to learn more about the French Revolution, so I certainly am not against learning more about how to learn about the French Revolution lol. I think I might also try listening to that podcast that was mentioned on my reading list after I finish Twelve Who Ruled. It has so many episodes just for the French Revolution!
By the last section do you mean the part about the Dark Countess, because I am now in love with the concept of Eren and Mikasa escaping after the French Revolution and living together in secret in Germany (although we could make it Switzerland for this).
I was ruminating about the French Revolution au idea a bit and how they meet and I really like the idea of Mikasa fighting someone (in front of Eren or possibly even for him?) and Eren immediately falling for her. Do I think that she should get into a fist fight? Maybe not. But maybe she sees a tax collector while she's out and absolutely lays into him. She's garbed in her finery and Eren assumes she's empty-headed and frivolous, and then she goes out of her way to lambaste this tax collector and then maybe she even starts chucking coins at him and telling him to leave the people alone? I know Mikasa is typically pretty quiet, so maybe she can do it in a more chilly way if that feels more appropriate, but I'm inspired by when she was fifteen and told Dimo Reeves she was going to kill him if he didn't move his cart from the door. I think her being a natural protector would lead to her siding more with the starving, over-taxed peasantry than her own class.
Anyway, Eren, who is indeed a crazy revolutionary, is like, "I don't know who she is, but I'm going to find out and I'm going to save her from the guillotine and marry her when France is free."
Then he will indeed save her from something somehow (possibly not the guillotine right off the bat? Maybe just a riot? I'm assuming there were riots. I guess he could also keep her safe during the storming of the Bastille if there weren't?) Then after that she's in love with him, and then they have to figure out how they're going to be together or whatever? Idk! This is perfect for enemies to lovers but I don't think they could actually start out as enemies in this case (well, not in their hearts. They are technically enemies the whole time) because I feel there wouldn't be time or opportunity for Mikasa to win him over since I'm assuming they run in different social circles (I see Eren as being third estate). So I guess in this case it would be more of a forbidden love.

Chapter 10
This is the end… My only friend, the end…
Can’t believe this is the final chapter 😭 I really enjoyed writing this fic! South Park turned out to be very fun to write for!
I am so unbelievably grateful for all the support y’all have given this little venture of mine! I never expected this to get as many kudos and comments as it did, and I am over the moon with every single one! Every time I got a comment my heart would almost explode with glee! Thank you all so much, I love you all :’)
I plan on writing some more South Park fics, if y’all wanna stick around c: I already have a few ideas I’d like to explore. I also thought about elaborating on Kenny and Henrietta’s physical relationship mentioned in chapter 4, but I could never bring myself to write anything remotely explicit 🙈 Unless… someone out there would like to collab and write the naughty parts while I handle the rest? 👀
Now, without further ado, please enjoy the final chapter~ 💖

Fifteen Years Later
“To us.”
The sound of champagne flutes clinking against one another was the best victory anthem either of them could’ve asked for; the perfect way to officially say goodbye to all the hardship and embrace the impending happiness headed their way. The past fifteen years had been a true rollercoaster of emotions for the two blonds. After all that time spent toiling and battling for financial independence, they could finally sit back and relax. For the first time in literal years, Leo and Kenny could finally breathe.
Once they settled into their new apartment after graduation, Leo had to literally pinch himself to make sure he really wasn’t dreaming. He was finally free from his overbearing parents — who may or may not have remained blissfully unaware that their only son was bunking with his high school sweetheart — and living according to his own rules. No more getting scolded 24/7 or getting grounded for the littlest things; he could finally enjoy life to its fullest and do all the things he’d always wanted to do. The day they moved in, Leo took a little too much pleasure in organizing the contents of their pantry in the craziest order he could think of and eating an entire carton of ice cream all by himself. The stomach ache that followed was well worth it; freedom had never tasted sweeter.
True to his word, Kenny brought Karen along with them to California, refusing to leave her alone with his awful parents in their near-condemned house. Leo didn’t mind her company in the slightest, since they got along like peas and carrots, although he could sense that Karen sometimes felt a little awkward around him. That could have to do with the fact that, as much as he and Kenny tried to keep the volume of their nightly activities to a minimum, they would more often than not get carried away. Leo would never forget how mortified he felt the morning after they had ‘christened’ their new bed — Kenny’s words, not his — when Karen, with a foul mood and large dark bags under her eyes, casually told them to ‘try and fuck a little more quietly next time’ as she scooped some cereal into her mouth.
As much as Kenny’s scholarship provided some relief with the living expenses, they would still sometimes struggle to make ends meet, especially considering the extra mouth to feed, so they had to find an extra source of income. Kenny worked as a barista in a coffee shop near campus in the afternoons and got the graveyard shift at a nearby gas station — which left Leo worried sick, both because he wasn’t getting enough sleep and due to his relentless fear of him getting killed during a mugging gone bad. Leo was fortunate enough to get a job at the college library, where he worked whenever he didn’t have classes, and waited tables at a local Applebee’s on the weekends. Even Karen got herself a job at a grocery store to help with the expenses, ignoring Kenny’s insistence in her focusing on school.
It was crazy how those four years went by in the blink of an eye, and even crazier how much changed in such a seemingly short period. First Karen graduated high school and managed to get accepted to the same college as Leo and Kenny. Then Leo got his bachelors degree, beyond relieved to be done with college and eager to find himself a proper job to help Kenny pay for Karen’s tuition. Then came the biggest shocker of all when Kenny suddenly announced that his masters application had been accepted. Neither Leo nor Karen knew he had even applied; apparently he had been doing so well in his classes that one of his professors had suggested moving on to a masters program, to which he figured it was worth a shot. Leo’s pride in his boyfriend was beyond immeasurable, but deep down he was also worried about the financial toll that would take in their lives. He decided to pick up more shifts at Applebee’s whilst continuing to send job applications to anyone hiring in his field of study. He was dead set in supporting his boyfriend, no matter what sacrifices he had to make.
Four years turned to six years, then six years turned to ten years, and before he knew it, Kenny had gotten a PhD. This hardly surprised anyone, since he had more than proven to be one of the sharpest minds to come out of their side of Colorado. Leo had continued to work at Applebee’s in the meantime, being promoted to manager after proving his worth and after the major walkout of virtually the entire staff after the big merger with Denny’s. The job market being unrelenting as usual, he never managed to find a job in his field, but he found solace in the steady managing position he had landed.
Not long after Kenny began his doctoral program and he started fretting about their financial situation once again, one of his coworkers had suggested he dip his toe into the stock market. Skeptical at first, recalling just how many Wall Street brokers were left homeless due to their reckless investments, Leo took a gander at his options and began investing small amounts into seemingly promising technological ventures. It turned out to be the best thing he had ever done, since the money began pouring in almost overnight. Before long, he had enough money in his bank account to not have to worry about the end of the month ever again.
Kenny was offered a job at the university almost immediately after getting his PhD. Not a day went by that Leo didn’t notice how happy he was, doing what he loved and earning himself quite the generous paycheck every month. It wasn’t all that hard to notice, since he all but skipped out the door every morning, but it still delighted him to see him so pleased. He had come a long way from the underprivileged child everyone made fun of. It made Leo’s heart soar to see his boyfriend so content with his life, especially after everything he had gone through to get there. He was living proof that one can persevere no matter the circumstances, and Leo couldn’t be more proud.
They began searching for a new house not long after, since they could finally afford a nicer place than the three-bedroom apartment in which they had lived for the past decade. Especially because Karen moved out once she finished her own studies and got her own place — much to Kenny's disappointment, who had acted almost like a distraught mother as he watched his baby sister flee the nest. It was about time they found themselves a proper place to call home; a place where they wouldn’t hear drunken college students go in and out of frat parties at ungodly hours.
Unfortunately their search for a new abode was drastically cut short when Kenny got a call from his mother, who with a grief-stricken voice told him his father’s health had taken a turn for the worse. Turns out he had been diagnosed with severe cirrhosis a few years back, no doubt a result of his excessive drinking, and his condition had worsened in the past few days to the point that he had to be admitted to the hospital while they searched for a compatible liver donor. Kenny didn’t think twice before booking a flight for the next day. As much as he considered his father a gigantic prick, at the end of the day he was still his father.
Stuart was in worse shape than either of them were expecting, his skin yellowed from jaundice and taught against his skin from his drastic weight loss. Carol was inconsolable, breaking down and crying in Kenny’s arms as soon as they arrived at Hell’s Pass. When the doctor explained that his condition was critical and that there was no possibility of recovery without finding a liver donor, Kenny did something that left everyone with their jaws on the floor: he stepped up and offered to give his father part of his liver. Leo had heard Kenny complain about his father countless times throughout their relationship, calling him things that would make even the burliest sailor blush, so this was a move he had never expected from him. However, he did understand the reason behind it. This man, however flawed he might be, had brought him into the world and taught him everything he knew. He was his father, the only one he had, and Kenny wanted to keep him around for as long as it took. It was perfectly understandable, and if push came to shove, Leo would probably do the same for his own father, no matter how much that thought made his skin crawl.
They stayed in South Park for a couple of weeks, accompanying Stuart’s painfully slow recovery and helping out with the medical bills and some of the McCormicks’ outstanding expenses. Leo could tell Carol felt a little uncomfortable receiving financial aid from her son and his boyfriend, but he could also see the gratitude in her eyes. The time they spent in their home town brought back all sorts of memories to the two blonds, both good and bad. As much pain as those familiar streets invoked, they couldn’t deny the pull that came with recalling some of their best moments. One night, while lounging in Kenny’s old bedroom and engaging in leisurely conversation, Leo casually brought up the possibility of them finding a house there instead of back in California. He hadn’t been all that serious about the suggestion, but the genuine look of intrigue that Kenny gave him as soon as it was out there almost made him regret saying it out loud. They ended up talking about it all night, laying out all the pros and cons and discussing all the important details that another big move would entail. By the time the sun rose, they had made up their minds. And by the end of the month, they had bought themselves a house in South Park.
They found a really nice house within their price range at Dark Meadows Estate, not far from Tolkien’s old house. It was much larger than Leo was comfortable with, but Kenny insisted on giving him the life of luxury he deserved, so how could he refuse? They quit their respective jobs in California and Kenny opened his own lab with help from Leo’s generous donations. Seeing as the platinum blond kept raking in large amounts of cash from investments, he didn’t really need to work another day in his life, so he focused all his energy in providing the funds for his boyfriend’s research. It didn’t take long for Kenny to start reaping the rewards of his labor, and just a couple of years later he was one of the most celebrated scientists in the state. Leo had no doubt that he would some day go as far as being awarded a Nobel Prize.
So there they were, in a penthouse in the center of Denver, celebrating both the upcoming new year and their past accomplishments. Kenny had decided they needed a treat after their collective efforts, and Leo had to agree. After all their hard work and dedication over the past fifteen years, it was a well-deserved break.
They settled back in their seats after the toast and Leo took a big swig from his glass, the burst of citrus flavors dancing in his taste buds tasting like the most delectable ambrosia. They sat in silence and basked in each other’s company, the only sounds being the faint celebratory expletives emanating through their window and the low harmony of Kenny’s Golden Oldies playlist playing in the speakers. Leo couldn’t help but sigh; that had to be his own, personal heaven.
“To a glorious New Year and our bitchin’ new life!” Kenny exclaimed, raising his glass high above him. “We’re finally living the dream, babe! It was a long and hard ride, but we made it.”
“I’ll say.” Leo chuckled, watching amusedly as his boyfriend downed his champagne in one gulp. “I’ll be honest, there were times when I seriously considered givin’ up. But seein’ you jump one hurdle after another kept me goin’. You’re my rock, Ken.”
“Thanks, Buttercup.” Kenny said sweetly before putting on one of his signature shit-eating grins. “I know something else that’s about to turn into a rock.”
“This month’s cover boy of Scientific American, ladies and gentleman.” Leo scoffed, gesturing towards Kenny as if introducing him to an invisible audience. “How are you constantly makin’ scientific breakthroughs if you’re still thinkin’ with your dick?”
“Hey, it takes a very capable man to be able to think with two very different brains. Fortunately it’s a skill I’ve been perfecting from a very tender age.” he winked. “And I happen to know that you love it when I think with my dick.”
“I do, but that’s besides the point.” Leo attempted to defend himself, trying his best to keep a serious look on his face even when Kenny burst out laughing.
The transition from the current song to the next was barely noticeable. One minute the final synth notes from ‘Wind of Change’ were fading out, the next some very familiar vocals had taken their place. It took a moment for Leo to even register the change, but with that realization came a flutter to his heart.
Now I don’t hardly know her But I think I could love her
“Is that…?”
“The song playing when he first made out, yeah.” Kenny confirmed his suspicions.
Crimson and clover
“Why is it in your playlist?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” he seemed almost shocked with that question. “Not only is it a banger of a tune, but it’s basically the soundtrack for our relationship. It’s our song.”
Their song… Leo had never considered that. It was incredible how one song, that before that fateful day he had completely forgotten to have downloaded, was the one to serenade their first milestone as a couple; the song that from that moment onward became associated with their love. He never thought such a simple melody could carry such weight, but now it dawned on him that Kenny was absolutely right: that was their song. And the fact that he had added it to his favorite playlist and kept it there all those years… that moved him in ways he was not expecting.
When she comes walking over Now I've been waitin’ to show her Crimson and clover Over and over
He wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol or the raw emotion that fueled him, but he immediately pushed himself up from his armchair and made his way towards the brilliant man sitting across from him. Kenny watched with intrigue as he took a seat on his lap, straddling his legs and wrapping his arms around his neck. He flashed him the tiniest of smirks before diving in and capturing Kenny’s lips in his, eliciting a surprised moan from the other blond.
He poured all his love and devotion into that one kiss, determined to show just how much he meant to him. He needed him to know how lucky he was to have him in his life, how proud he was of his accomplishments, how grateful he was to have him stay by his side for so long. But more than anything, he wanted to show him just how truly, madly, deeply he loved him.
When Kenny clutched onto his waist, he knew his point was coming across. He continued to smooch him like his life depended on it, intent on leaving him as lovestruck and lightheaded as he was currently feeling. Leo moved his hands up and cupped his cheeks to deepen the kiss, starting to lose himself in the moment…
…until Kenny had the audacity to start laughing against his lips.
“Seriously?” he gasped as soon as they parted, his head still swimming despite the interruption. “Who the hell starts laughin’ in the middle of a make-out session?”
“Sorry, sorry!” Kenny snorted, almost sounding genuinely apologetic. “I tried to hold it in, but your mustache really tickles.”
Leo reflexively touched his upper lip, running his fingertips through the tiny, prickly hairs. After Kenny decided to let his beard grow out last year, he was curious about how he would look with some facial hair of his own. After some soul searching and the proper research, he figured a mustache was the best option for him, since a full beard would not compliment his facial features in the slightest. Unfortunately, the result was deeply disappointing. Not only was the fuzz on his upper lip coarse and incredibly itchy, the hairs were coming out patchy and uneven. Kenny had assured him it was part of the process and that he would just have to be patient, but it took a great amount of willpower every morning to not take a razor and get rid of it once and for all.
“This thing’s been nothin’ but trouble.” he groaned. “I should just shave and forget about it.”
“No, don’t! It suits you.” Kenny replied as he ran his hands over his boyfriend’s thighs. “Trust me, it’ll even out. I’m sure you’ll look just like Tom Selleck in no time.”
“I was actually goin’ for more of a Freddy Mercury vibe.”
“They’re both hot! I’d totally agree to a threesome with them.”
“Could you please stop bein’ horny for one second?” he rolled his eyes in fake annoyance, unable to keep an amused smile from spreading across his face.
“Not easy when I’ve got the best ass in Colorado on my lap.” Kenny purred, giving Leo’s rump a playful squeeze.
“Mine’s hardly the best ass in Colorado.”
“I can guarantee it is. In fact, I should get you a trophy for that! And another one for ‘World’s Greatest Sugar Daddy’.”
“I really wish you’d stop callin’ me that.” Leo sighed.
“Just spittin’ facts.” he grinned rather mischievously. “But your wish is my command, Mr. Leopold Stotch.”
He couldn’t stop the grimace that came to his face. He had never been a big fan of the name his parents had given him, and as he got older his dislike for it only grew into near hatred. It wasn’t a bad name per se, and he liked it when Kenny affectionately called him Leo, but the full version only served as a reminder of the people who had chosen it and the years of abuse they had forced him to endure. The less he was reminded of Stephen and Linda, the better.
“Don’t call me that, either. I don’t like it.” he grumbled.
“Why not? It’s a nice name.”
“Yeah, but it reminds me of my parents too much. I wish I could change it.”
“Who says you can’t? Just pick a new one.” Kenny shrugged. “Aren’t people always saying ‘New year, new me’? Well, this can be your fresh start. Become a brand new person!”
Yeah My my, such a sweet thing
“...Hey, yeah! Why the hell did I never think of that? I should change my name!” he beamed in glee, a wave of adrenaline washing over him. “New year, new me! Hell yeah!”
“So… What do I call you now, Mr. Best Ass in Colorado?” Kenny teased as he kneaded his boyfriend’s posterior.
“I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to look up some options.” Leo pondered. “But I do know I’d like a powerful name. Like Sullivan, but shorter.”
I wanna do everything What a beautiful feeling
“Well, lately you’ve been a real champ, kicking ass at everything you do. Maybe you could go with a name associated with winning, like Nicholas or Victor.”
“Those are some good options… I’ll think about it.” he hummed, smiling down at the handsome man beneath him. “Figurin’ out a new surname will be a lot trickier, though.”
“I think I can help you with that.” Kenny suggested in a semi-serious tone.
Crimson and clover Over and over
Leo suddenly found himself becoming breathless with his boyfriend’s words. His heart skipped a beat when Kenny released him and began wringing his hands, nervousness clear on his face. He hadn’t seen him act this way in years, not since the day he had opened his heart to him all the way back in high school. His stomach began twisting into knots as he awaited his next move.
“Buttercup, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for you. I don’t just mean financially, but also due to your unrelenting support.” Kenny began, taking a second to collect himself before he continued. Leo’s wide eyes were glued to him, watching his Adam’s apple bob as he gulped. “You believed in me when no one else would. You were always beside me to encourage me and never let me give up, and God knows I wanted to. A lot . But your sweet smile and kind words kept me going, even in my darkest hours. You made me the man I am today.” he clasped Leo’s hands in his, his mesmerizing blue eyes looking so deep into his that it seemed he was peering into his very soul. “You are the most important person in my life. You were there with me through thick and thin, and I can’t imagine a life without you anymore. So, if you’ll allow me, I’d like to make it official.”
Leo’s heart nearly shot straight out of his chest when Kenny reached for his back pocket and retrieved a small black velvet box.
“Leopold ‘Butters’ Stotch, or whichever name you choose to take from now on…” the box popped open with an almost inaudible click, and Leo’s hands flew to cover his mouth at the sight of its contents. “...will you marry me?”
He could already feel himself tear up as excitement soared through his body. The box held before him contained a small golden ring with a baby blue gemstone, the hue very similar to that of Leo’s eyes. His gaze darted from the ring to Kenny’s face a couple of times, his mind still trying to desperately wrap itself around what was happening. Out of all the things he had planned for that evening, the last thing he had expected was Kenny dropping an honest-to-God proposal!
Yet, the overwhelming emotions coursing through him weren’t enough to silence the chuckle that began rumbling in his throat, which turned into a full-on laughing fit in no time. Even through the tears clouding his vision, he could see Kenny’s hopeful smile had disappeared, his expression turning sour with disappointment.
“I know I kinda deserve it for laughing earlier, but…” Kenny muttered, his voice cracking as he tried to swallow his dissatisfaction. “Geez, at least let me down easy.”
“N-No! No, Ke-Ken, I’m s-sorry!” he desperately tried to catch his breath, quickly wiping his eyes before gently cupping Kenny’s cheeks and forcing him to meet his gaze. “I’m not sayin’ no, honest! You just caught me off guard. And beat me to the punch, as usual.”
One of his hands dropped from his boyfriend’s stubble-covered jaw and dug into his own back pocket, pulling out a burgundy velvet box roughly the same size as Kenny’s. He noticed the gasp that escaped his boyfriend’s lips and the way his eyes widened when the box opened to reveal the ring Leo had picked for him — a silver band with a small aquamarine gemstone.
“I picked this out for you months ago. I was waitin’ for the perfect opportunity to propose, and when you suggested we celebrate the New Year away, I figured that would be the right time.” he explained before frustration took over. “Damnit Ken, why couldn’t you let me have this one? Do you know how hard it was to get this thing? I had to go to at least twenty different jewelry stores to find a ring with your birthstone!”
Kenny could only stare slack-jawed at the small ring in his boyfriend’s hands, his gaze momentarily drifting upwards towards his displeased face before bursting into his own fit of laughter. Leo cocked a brow at Kenny’s reaction, feeling his frustration increase slightly as he watched him guffaw.
“I swear I’m not doing it on purpose!” Kenny chuckled, gripping his gut as he tried to calm himself down. “God, do I just have the worst sense of timing in the universe?”
“You tell me, you’re the scientist.” Leo retorted slyly, eliciting another snicker from his boyfriend.
“Fuck… I’m sorry, but… this is hilarious, if you think about it.” Kenny said between wheezes. “We basically proposed at the same time!”
Somehow the fact hadn’t quite been processed by Leo’s brain, but once the words came out of Kenny’s mouth, he couldn’t disagree that it was in fact very humorous. Humorous enough to get him to start laughing again.
“You’re right, it is pretty darn funny.” he giggled. “Sure is a good story to tell our future children.”
“So… is that a yes?” asked Kenny, his deep blue eyes glinting with hope.
“What do you think, genius?” Leo scoffed, crossing his arms. “Did you really think there was a chance I’d say no?”
“I’m a man of science, I always have to take every possibility into account.” he grinned smugly.
Leo just rolled his eyes as Kenny took his left hand and gently slid the engagement ring onto his finger. He did the same to him, leaving a soft kiss on his knuckles before releasing his hand.
“Wow… This is amazing!” Kenny commented as he inspected his engagement ring. “I can’t wait to get hitched and start calling you my ex-boyfriend!”
“Please don’t.” Leo replied tiredly. “I’d honestly rather be called your sugar daddy.”
In lieu of a response, Kenny leaned forward and pressed his lips onto his new fiancé’s in what Leo could’ve sworn was the most passionate, fervent kiss he had ever given him. He wasted no time in reciprocating, wrapping his arms around Kenny’s neck and pressing their chests together, putting his absolute all in the kiss that marked the start of this new chapter of their lives.
It had been a rough and bumpy journey, but they had finally made it to the end. From the moment they had first professed their love for one another, Leo knew in his heart of hearts that he would be devoted to Kenny McCormick until the end of his days, and it was that devotion that kept him going no matter what obstacle might cross his path. Through all the good times and bad times, though every altercation, every stupid fight, every celebration, every bout of jealousy or moment of boredom, he knew he could always count on their love to make it through another day. It became the one constant in his life. No matter what might happen, he knew one thing for sure: he loved Kenny McCormick.
And he always would.
