Characters: Lucia Junius, Artoirel de Fortemps, Jannie Eyradoux, Honoroit Banlardois, Emmanellain de Fortemps, U'rahn Nuhn, Aymeric de Borel Expansion: Endwalker (No Spoilers) Rating: T for Nuhn Notes: N/A
Tumblr media
“Ser Junius, we have come at your command. How can House Fortemps assist you?”
The Temple Knight commander didn’t look up at Artoirel and Jannie as the two approached her desk. Her fair cheeks were flush, eyes unable to meet the young couple as young Honoroit giggled in a chair behind her. The elder Fortemps shot a glare to the boy, getting the pageboy to be silent as Lucia composed herself.
“There was an incident in the Jeweled Croizer, involving your younger brother and U’rahn Nuhn.”
Jannie sighed, while Artoriel cursed under his breath. Lucia was taken aback for a moment by the lack of initial concern for the two’s well-being. Clearing her throat, she moved to stand then looked back to Honoroit, “Anyroad, it seems they were victims of a rather juvenile prank which resulted in…indecent exposure.”
“Indecent…The Fortemps name is sullied isn’t it? This is the end of our great house…” Artoriel breathed out, looking up to the ceiling.
Jannie gently took Artoritel’s arms against her to comfort him as she looked to the Commander, doing her best to comfort him as he reeled.
“What were the circumstances exactly?”
“I think young Honoroit here should explain the details,” Lucia answered sternly, stepping aside so that the couple could focus on him.
The teen was stifling his amusement, swallowing his laughter with a deep breath. “I offered to treat Master Emmanellain and Master U’rahn to a meal with the royalties from my recent publication. In a moment of youthful indiscretion I thought to play a prank upon them. I should have known better, seeing who they are.”
“Out with it! What did you do, “Artoriel demanded.
“Well, Master Emmanellain fancied himself a new coat and we found ourselves in the tailor. I happened upon an empty hanger and then inspiration struck. I held it out before me and told them what extravagant fabric I had found. Of course they were perplexed at my findings, yet their nature prevented them from being entirely skeptical. I proceeded to explain it was made from a rare plant in Coerthas that once harvested and spun into fabric, only the most heroic of men could perceive it. Well, of course they then proceeded to proudly proclaim they both could see it.”
“Seven hells..,” Artoriel groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose between his fingers.
“Surely they didn’t,” Jannie started before letting out another sigh,, “Of course they did. Oh, Honoroit. This is mischief worthy of Violet. Why did you not stop them!?”
“I did try. Honest Ms. Eyradoux! Before I could step in they were fighting over a hanger and making a scene. I offered a second hanger to resolve matters and in a flash they’d paid the confused shopkeep then disrobed and pantomimed putting on their ‘heroic’ vestments before running out into the street.”
“Where we then in turn swiftly apprehended them and brought them to their cells. As you can imagine we’ve had a bit of trouble convincing them they have been victims of mischief,” Lucia sighed.
Artoriel glowered at Honoroit while Jannie shook her head. The boy shrugged, “I cannot help that I’ve built up a reputation as the straight man to Master Emmanellian’s antics. It made for the perfect storm of hijinks.”
“It seems it has,” Jannie hummed, unable to prevent herself from cracking the slightest of smiles.
“Don’t you dare give this any life. Commander, where are the idiots?”
“Right…this way,” Lucia answered, cheeks flushing once more, leading the two down to the cells.
Approaching, both smallclothed clad men hurried to their bars, looking up eagerly to the couple. U’rahn’s tail danced around behind him with excitement as he looked up into Jannie’s eyes while Emmanellain did the same toward his brother.
“Great tidings my brave, heroic brother. Please tell the Commander here that surely there has been some mistake and you can see the dazzling coat I am in,” Emmanellain begged.
“Yeah Yeah! You’re a Warrior of Light light me! Jannie! C’mon C’mon! Tell her there’s a mistake.
Jannie simply smiled, letting Atroriel put his head against the bars, eyes burning with rage to the point that both men cowered, “Lady Commander, I do not see my brother here. Nor Master U’rahn. These miscreants should be left in here to never again see the light of day.”
“If you’re sure Lord Fortemps,” Lucia answered with a light bow.
Jannie and Artoirel exited, leaving the two duped fools to cry and beg. Hours later when Lucia broke down and brought down the Lord Commander himself to flusteredly assure the two they were indeed half-naked, they finally began to doubt themselves and see through young Honoroit’s ruse.

a07 :: "You Could Say I'm Fond of You"
Tumblr media
Recalling a discussion she had with Emmanellain at one point, Nomin finds herself riddled with worry at a bad time. Though she attempts to put on a steeled facade, it is hard to deny what this distraction could do. Especially when she hardly reciprocates the feelings being expressed toward her.
Word Count: 2,015
Tumblr media
"Nomin, old girl, you're quite sure that you weren't being swooned? Were you not swept off your feet by the lord commander?" Emmanellain prodded. "'Tis not often one is invited for a private dinner. Why, you even dressed in fine Ishgardian cloth before you left! I'm honestly quite offended you dared not ask for my opinion!"
Nomin attempted to hold back the half-grimace that tugged at her lips after Emannellain’s questioning. However, she closed her eyes and let out a low, silent sigh. She then looked up at him and thought over her response. There was much she could say and more about the situation.
“... He was just being nice,” Nomin started, her tone carrying a flatness to it. “I’m actually just surprised that it sounds like Tataru didn’t consult you. She was the one who was rather excited to take off into the markets in order to find me something to dress up in for the dinner with Aymeric. Were it up to me, I would have simply dressed warm. Alternatively, not shown at all.”
Nomin leaned over and propped her elbow on the arm of the couch she was seated on, her attention going toward the fireplace. Her tail curled and twitched shallowly with her continued vexation.
This was far from the discussion she wanted to have. It was bad enough she was urged to go to that damned dinner at all. Especially with feeling as if she were manipulated and controlled into serving Ishgard at Aymeric’s beck and call all for the safety of Alphinaud and Tataru in the first place.
… And then there was Estinien who still lay in his sickbed. Recovering.
To hells with him, Nomin typically thought. Though with all the hardship she went through alongside Alphinaud, she was glad he still yet drew breath. The boy suffered enough loss. Nomin hated the idea of him losing someone else. So the fact that Estinien was still alive brought her some comfort as long as it meant Alphinaud did not suffer another gaping wound of loss.
Emmanellain sat across from Nomin an incredulous look upon his face, and Honoroit ever present at his side now that he had healed up better. It seemed that Emmanellain seemed oblivious to the fact that Nomin cared not for Aymeric and his political agenda.
A defeated sigh left the younger Fortemps' lips as he pinched the bridge of his nose.
"By the Fury, Nomin… Can you really not tell when you're being courted?"
"'Courted'...? I'm not sure I follow…" Nomin replied, looking over with an expression of annoyed surprise. "Yes, he invited me for a private dinner, but we spoke of the ventures across Coerthas and Dravania I had with Estinien, Ysayle, and Alphinaud."
"Because he wanted only to spend time with you, old girl! Oh, were I ever so lucky to have such an opportunity with my dearest Lady Laniaitte…" Emmanellain lamented, slumping back into the cushions of the couch with a small pout. He placed his hand over his face, exasperated with the discussion he was party to. "If ever she finds herself free of her duties…"
"If you say so," Nomin replied, ignoring his ever present pining for the Haillenarte noblewoman. She then drew her hands together in her lap. Peering over at Honoroit, she asked, "Do you think so, too? That Ser Aymeric planned for romance or to court me?"
Honoroit sputtered slightly, glancing between both Nomin and Emmanellain, wondering how he had gotten dragged into this. However, he pursed his lips and folded his arms over his chest, a thoughtful look befalling his face. A hum of consideration came from him before he finally replied, “in some novels I’ve read, someone inviting someone else out to a private dinner is considered an act of courtship. Not to mention that all the times his Lordship has attempted to invite Lady Lania--”
“That’s quite enough out of you!” Emmanellain retorted with a semblance of flustered annoyance, picking up one of the decorative cushions on the couch and flinging it at Honoroit. Though it struck the younger elezen, Honoroit only met Emmanellain’s response with his own look of exasperation before he shrugged and looked back at Nomin.
Withdrawing into her own mind, Nomin furrowed her brow in thought to the discussion overall. She thought about the dinner a little longer before she idly pouted in general response.
It was hard to feel any kind of pull toward Aymeric. Platonic, romantic… If anything, Nomin felt animosity.
To her own credit, Nomin could see why people respected him and liked him. However, she herself was not a fan of being used as a pawn for much of anything. Her time with the Jhungid back on the Steppe made her dig her heels in at anything that made her yet another tool of war, or to fight others’ battles when she had no stake in it.
"Though, in all honesty…" Honoroit continued, his voice pulling Nomin from her thoughts. He unfolded his arms and looked at Nomin with excitement in his eyes. All the while, Emmanellain wallowed in his own failure of romantic endeavors. Turning to face Nomin properly, Honoroit said, "I was hoping to hear of your recent ventures at Xelphatol now that you have returned to us!"
"Of course!" Nomin chirped in response, a smile growing on her face. Relief welled in her chest, for discussing the events of Xelphatol was a welcome distraction from Emmanellain's curiosity over what she and Aymeric had been up to. Not to mention a welcome distraction from anything that related to Aymeric in the slightest.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Seeing the salt deposits of this land, one would think all of it snow at this distance were they not plagued by the sun’s accursed heat during the daylight bells," Aymeric spoke, a gentleness to his tone as he and Nomin stood atop the stairs at Porta Praetoria. The two of them found themselves there after speaking with some of the other city-state leaders.
Nomin stayed silent for a time, her arms folded over her chest. She kept her gaze pointed away from Aymeric, only seeing him in her peripheral view. If only her horns could have blocked him out as well.
"I admit that the sight is a little disappointing. Being surrounded by such stark white coldness in Ishgard leaves the desire to see something less harsh upon the eyes,” Aymeric continued.
There was nothing wrong with his aether. There was nothing off about his presence. Nomin’s Echo did not react to Aymeric like it reacted to Ilberd or Lolorito. He was, at his core, a good person. Nomin knew this. Yet she kept her closed off stance, and her jaw was set.
Nomin still could not forgive him. Not after the Dragonsong War. With nary an apology upon his lips ever after the events, she often attempted giving him the cold shoulder.
She would have rather been anywhere but there.
Nomin longed for a distraction, having so many political and military figureheads around her served as a reminder to all that had yet to be done. It was all so mentally exhausting. Especially for one such as she; she who did not relish the politicking and democratic speeches.
"Well…we're not here for leisure, I suppose…" Nomin idly commented, scanning the whitened deposits amidst the sand and rocks. She was bored. Bored and annoyed.
A soft scoff of amusement left Aymeric before Nomin heard the clinking of his armor as he neared. Glancing over at him, she watched him, only mildly curious before looking back out to the landscape. It was almost as if he were oblivious to how she was not wont to be around him.
"Indeed… And if you would entertain me this one question: where would you go if you had the opportunity?" Aymeric asked, leaning with his arms on the railing next to Nomin. There was a genuine cadence in his tone, and that only served to annoy Nomin more as she kept her expression as placid as possible.
“Somewhere peaceful. Bereft of those that would resolve to use me as a sharpened blade against their enemies,” Nomin replied. Perhaps that would give him enough of a hint to piss off.
Silence fell between the two of them. When Nomin failed to expand upon her wants and desires in terms of travel, Aymeric lightly tapped his thumbs against his forearms. He was at a loss of how to pick back up on pursuing this conversation.
"You know, my friend…" Aymeric started after a time, offering Nomin a gentle smile. "I'm here to ever lend a listening ear if you ever desire it. I've grown rather fond of you since the events of the Dragonsong War, and wish to ever lend you the support you find yourself in need of."
Nomin remained silent, but the statement made her tail jerk a couple ilms to the left before settling back to its original position. Especially hearing Aymeric call her his ‘friend.’ Though it was not an obvious flick, she felt it as if someone gripped her spine and tugged her.
Memories of that discussion between Emmanellain and herself resurfaced, and Nomin could only grimace inwardly. She hated the idea that Emmanellain, of all people, seemed to have had some idea that Aymeric started to fancy Nomin after everything. Even if she scorned him.
A thread of worry developed, its string spinning itself and pulling itself taut in Nomin’s mind.
"... I appreciate that, Ser Aymeric," Nomin reluctatnly replied. She looked down to her hands in her lap before she coaxed a practiced smile upon her lips. She looked in Aymeric’s direction.
Worry.
Nomin worried for what his 'fondness' entailed. For Aymeric was a true and stalwart ally. Even if she did not appreciate his company nor his methods. He was still an ally to Eorzea and an ally to the Scions.
Worry.
Nomin worried over how her lack of mutual fondness would affect that alliance. Surely, Aymeric would not have allowed such feelings to cause a rift between Ishgard and Eorzea once more. Then again…Nomin remembered that the Oronir and the Dotharl were at odds because of Magnai’s ridiculous invitation of ‘fair maidens’ across the Steppe to evaluate for a potential wife.
A long moment of silence passed before Nomin looked back out to the salted lands, molten gold glinting off the water’s surface as the sun dipped past the horizon. As she looked at the shimmering oranges, yellows, and reds as they played with the water’s gentle waves, Nomin considered how best to word her thoughts. How best to utilize those unwanted political discussions that centered around democracy to keep that wall between herself and Aymeric.
"Ishgard looks to you now. Asking me of my troubles and burdens seems trivial compared to that of the nation, wouldn’t you agree?” Nomin started. She then looked back at Aymeric, sliding off the railing as she did so. Her eyes were blank as she looked at him. “Not to mention that the Eorzean Alliance relies upon you and the people of Ishgard as well… Especially in times like this.”
Nomin turned to walk toward where she had laid claim to a tent and cot at the Porta Praetoria outpost. She paused and looked over her shoulder. “Estinien said you were the nation’s best hope. Don’t allow yourself to get carried away with troubles that are beyond your power that will distract you.”
“...Estinien said that, did he?” Aymeric slowly said, bringing a hand to his chin. Though his expression fell to pensiveness, the furrow of his brow and the twitch of his mouth were unmistakable. As was the insightful tug of her Echo that flickered just then. Nomin’s words stung him.
“We have a storm brewing before us, that much is certain,” Aymeric continued after a moment. He lifted his head to look at Nomin, a steeled look on his face.
“... And I expect to be in the eye of it. Like I was for you and Ishgard,” Nomin finished, turning away from Aymeric to finally distance herself and walk away.

Prompt: Weal
Several glasses of brandy wear away Emmanellain's bravado enough for him to compare himself to Honoroit. But Honoroit, however, won't hear of it. Takes place at Camp Dragonhead.
Emmanellain held a glass of brandy. He stared into it, a thumb brushing over the rim. His cheeks were pink and hot from the prior three. The bottle was Haurchefant’s, from his private quarters at Camp Dragonhead. But with him dead and gone, well, it wouldn’t do to waste good drink, would it?
“Are you all right, my lord?” Honoroit asked quietly.
Several seconds ticked by before Emmanellain responded. “I hear your book will be getting a second printing.”
                “Aye, Lord Emmanellain.”
A smile twitched at the corner of Emmanellain’s lips for a moment. “That is good. You should be proud. Fury knows I am.” He took a sip.
                “Thank you, my lord.”
He looked to Honoroit. “I really am. You’ve shone more brightly every day since I took you under my wing. You’ve outshone me for years. I know it. I am good for very little; I know that too.”
Honoroit’s brows furrowed. “That is not true, my lord…”
Emmanellain shook his head. His vision swirled for a moment afterwards. “I’ll not argue. I but want you to know that when you take wing yourself…and I become naught but a footnote in your life story, I shall always be proud of you, and I shall never regret taking you in. Not once.”
“Lord Emmanellain, I’ll not deny your flaws. But you underestimate what you did for me.” Honoroit put a hand on Emmanellain’s shoulder. “Before you, I could not so much as write my own name, or understand numbers beyond a hundred or so. But as you said, I am shining now, and it is only because you took the time to polish me. I will speak of you honestly, for weal or woe, but always with esteem. I have this life because of you. I would never let anyone write you out of my story – you are where it truly begins.”
Emmanellain’s eyes welled with tears. He pulled Honoroit into an embrace.
                “Thank you.”
“You are most welcome, Lord Emmanellain.”
                “And…I am sorry.”
                “For what, my lord?”
“I believe I spilled my drink on you.”

It’s been almost a year since we also lost Archie Lyndhurst, the EN Va for Honoroit, as well. He was only 19 at the time.
