i am so goddamn tired of every single fantasy story being about men. i am so goddamn tired of women being side characters and love interests and set dressing and an afterthought. i am so goddamn tired of women who are powerful but feminine. women who are "dressed to kill" and they are wearing eyeliner and a dress and heels. i am so goddamn tired of women always being healers and having water magic. i am so goddamn tired of men going on adventures and dying nobly. i am so goddamn tired of never being able to find a story about women that i can fall in love with. i am so goddamn tired of all fandom being about men.
#i have spent the past several weeks becoming increasingly upset about this#hannibal? men. lotr/the hobbit? men. stargate atlantis? men. dragon age inquistion? men. one piece? men.#the handful of superhero's i periodically read about? men. transformers? men. every goddamn anime i've ever loved? men.#the witcher? men. fantasy anachronism? men. literally every single fantasy adventurer series? men.#it's men and men and men and men and men and men and men and men#i just want ONE. one single goddamn story about women that is as well written and well made and as deep as everything else#i want ONE story about a women or women who are noble and honorable and fight in the face of impossible odds#and i don't want them to be pretty and small and feminine#make them hairy and fat and muscular and tall and wear steel toed boots and carry swords and fight monsters and sleep in the woods#and eat stew and carry heavy packs for long distances and be intelligent and sneaky and cowardly and fearful and brave#make them laugh and cry and scream and fall in love and write poetry and books and songs#make them wrestle and pick on each other and pull each others hair and sit around campfires#MAKE THEM GODDAMN PEOPLE#there are books out there about women going on adventures. they exist. i've read some#but they are not the majority and they never get big#and so many end up being poorly written or a romance or a combo of the two#i don't WANT to have to read genderbends just to read about women#i don't want to scroll tumblr and just see men on my dash#all i have ever wanted my whole life is to be a fantasy adventurer. and none of them. not ONE of them looks like me#i am tired of watching youtube critiques of fantasy shows/movies/stories and them just shitting on the women characters#i am just so tired of it

ELENDIL THE TALL and TAR-MIRIEL ―  Love is the Bane of Honour, the Death of Duty
“What is honour compared to a woman's love? What is duty against the feel of a new-born son in your arms? Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

finished rereading eragon and I don't remember the writing being just ok and eragon being so annoying for much of the book when I first read it like. 13 years ago but I still very much love the story haha

You know I understand and honestly agree with the majority of the criticism of Jackson's Hobbit trilogy but god damn if they aren't still really entertaining to watch the extending editions

every time I see someone watch or read LOTR for the first time and they say something about "this reminds me of GoT/Harry Potter/DnD" or (even worse) "This totally just ripped off GoT/Harry Potter/DnD" i want to tell them to sit down and mind their elders

Friend: Who's your favorite Lord of the Rings character?
Me: The gay ones
Friend: ... There are gay ones? Like, really? It's been awhile since I've seen LotR...
Me: Tumblr says they're gay. The potato guy and the one with the ring. The gay ones.
Friend: Oh! Sam and Frodo
Me: Yeah
Friend: I could've said Cheese and Fries and you would've agreed. You don't know anything about these movies
Me: Yeah :)
#for context: we started talkinf about lotr#and i said that ive only seen it in bits and pieces#my grandparents had a tv in almost every room and they would leave them all on at the same time#and when tv would run an lotr marathon of course they were on#but i didnt want to sit and watch things. i would just wander theough the house doing things#and so i picked up some pieces and they were very out of order. because this marathon happened frequently#or frequently as i remember. so i gained bits and pieces and i truly dont know how much pyf those movies ive seen#so she decided to test my knowledge#and legitimately all i know of lotr is those bits and also i guess i know a bit about sam and frodo#she said that last line affectionately btw. she wasnt trying to call me out or anything#today was a great day with her...#im exhausted. i stayed up until 3am baking her bread and woke up at 7am to go hang out with her#it was worth it though when i handed her the bread. she was so excited#she said 'i think i have to marry you now!' when she uncovered it#the less than four hours of sleep was one hundred percent worth it for her absolute delight at receiving homemade bread#i remember one time she had said that if anyone baked her bread she would love them forever. so i baked her bread#and i legitimately think i have her love forever now#she is such a good friend and im very happy to have her in my life. seriously i wouldnt stay up until 3am baking bread for just anybody#i learned to bake bread for her#oh shit i think thats love#gotta write a better poem with those two lines wait. wait that was cute#i learned to bake bread for her...

lotr/silm shows i would actually watch
1) a show centered around tom bombadil and goldberry where they do absolutely nothing but hang out in the forest and have orgies with the blue wizards
2) the children of húrin
3) an animated show about the hobbits in the style of the rankin/bass movies where they burst out into song every five minutes or so. the vibe should be not dissimilar to phineas and ferb
4) a parks and rec style sitcom with the ents

Hey pasta, Just wanted to ask if you are into sandman and /or lord of the rings and if so are you looking forward to the series that are coming out?... cause I'm so HYPED apart from the marvel stuff that is also coming out this year is insanly packed with media I'm looking forward to.
I'm into both! I'm admittedly a little bummed Tom Ellis couldn't be Lucifer in Sandman but other than that, I am so fucking psyched for both Sandman and Rings of Power! Especially LOTR. Things like Xena and TMNT may have been my first fandoms as a kid but my Fandom Awakening as a preteen was 100% LOTR. It was the first time I did the Opening Night/Day thing for movies! I read the books, rewatched the movies over and over, got posters and calendars and board games and the soundtracks (Riders of Rohan continues to sound fucking AMAZING). I still have various Makings Of books packed away in boxes somewhere waiting to be put on a shelf. Two Towers also continues to hold the Most Times Seen In Theatres record for me 11 times you're welcome for my allowance Hollywood. As far as I'm concerned, the LOTR movies were some of the greatest ever made, BAR NONE.
In other words... yeah I'm maybe a little excited. 😅
Basically between all the Marvel stuff coming, the Rings of Power, Sandman, I have no idea how I'm going to get anything done, but damn, it'll be fun to figure it out.

i saw a good post abt how fatphobia comes up in fat peoples sex/dating lives (which I'll probably reblog later, when i have time to add stuff to the tags) but hooooooh boy it did dredge up some stuff for me!!! and now im upset!!!!
#anime life#ive been fat my whole life and it's!!! its been rough!!!!!!#its been traumatic!!!!!#and the fact that it really feels like no one has ever truly desired me and nobody ever will is. ugh.#i wish it werent part of it bc it feels soooo pathetic#and when ive asked ppl for advice about it what ive gotten in response has been almost insulting#thin ppl spending a lot of time telling me how bad they feel for me. how sad hearing about my personal life made them.#a lot of 'have you tried dating a fat fetishist?'#which like. 1. no they dont want me either 2. theres a good chunk of ppl who fetishize fat bodies but still hate fat people#and 3. idk do other marginalized people get that advice?? that actually they should try dating chasers??#i feel like i havent seen it#or i get told i should try dating fat men. like i wouldnt if given the chance????#i love fat men. they just also. historically. dont like me#ive known a lot of fat men who view dating a fat woman (or whatever i am) as disgusting and demeaning!!! at best its 'settling'!!!#god. one bit of advice i got was i should try dating nerdy guys. incredible#once again: they don't want me either!!!!! im TOO nerdy to the point it's off-putting!!!!#YES im a nerd. NO i dont watch mcu stuff. or dcu. or lotr. or star wars. or got. i dont like any of the big things#my main fandom was and always will be a 12 year old free browser game#im wildly unrelatable and i hate most really big tentpole nerd properties. except dnd that ones ok. but ive also written ttrpgs so like.#idk i think im disqualified from being the nerdy gf* people would actually want lol#anyway. its not a big deal i guess#just the kind of advice that makes you feel even more hopeless.#when i think abt it i cant help but laugh..bc i mean. what else can i do lol
