Compare/Contrast of Bradford Buzzard and Black Heron And Doctor Drakken and Shego
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. Here I’ll be doing a compare/contrast between Bradford Buzzard and Black Heron and Doctor Drakken and Shego. It occurred to me that those 2 duos have quite a bit in common but are also a bit different. Also, Spoiler Alert for the DuckTales (2017) TV series and the Kim Possible TV series. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have a member who is constantly annoyed with how over-the-top the other member is. In the case of Bradford and Black Heron, there was Bradford who was annoyed with how over-the-top Black Heron was as shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’ where Bradford got frustrated with Black Heron’s showboating since he believed it would cost them the Papyrus Of Binding. And in the case of Doctor Drakken and Shego, there was Shego who was annoyed with how over-the-top Drakken was as shown in the episode ‘Crush’ where Shego tried to stop Drakken from telling Kim Possible his plan and also said to him that: “Yeah. All I know is every time you stop to blab about your big plan, she wins.” The difference between Bradford and Shego here, though, is how exactly they tried to put up with it. As shown in the episode ‘Double-O-Duck In You Only Crash Twice!’, Bradford gave Black Heron a stern lecture about the mess he had to clean up after her and how they needed to be smarter in order to beat Scrooge McDuck. And as shown in the episode ‘Go Team Go’, Shego was being sassy with Drakken by focusing on her magazine while he was explaining one of his evil schemes. So, Bradford was being stern with Black Heron whereas Shego was being sassy with Doctor Drakken. Another similarity between Bradford and Shego is that they both once part of a heroic group. As also shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, Bradford was once part of a heroic organization called SHUSH. And as shown in the episode ‘Go Team Go’, Shego was once part of a superhero team called Team Go. The difference between Bradford and Shego here, though, is why they left those heroic groups in the first place. As also shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, Bradford left SHUSH because he believed that they wouldn’t do what it takes to bring about order. And as also shown in the episode ‘Go Team Go’, Shego left Team Go because she wanted to be evil. So, Bradford wanted to bring about order whereas Shego wanted to bring about evil. Also, since I was on the topic of how over-the-top Black Heron and Doctor Drakken were earlier…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have a member who is pretty over-the-top when it comes to being supervillains. As shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, Black Heron mentioned she tried to carve her face into Mt. Neverrest saying that it would have been an improvement and she let out an evil laugh immediately thereafter. And as shown in the episode ‘Rappin’ Drakken’, Doctor Drakken dressed up as a rapper and sang a rap song to try to sell his mind controlling shampoo. The difference between Black Heron and Doctor Drakken here, though, is whether or not they can be cold and ruthless despite their over-the-top attitudes. As shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 2: The Lost Library Of Isabella Finch!’, when June (who was actually Webby in disguise unbeknownst to Black Heron) called Webby her sister, Black Heron replied with, “You have no sister, dear. You are my experiment.” And as shown in the episode ‘Car Trouble’, Drakken found himself dancing a little with Doctor Freeman even though Drakken was there to kidnap him. So, Black Heron is cold and ruthless despite her over-the-top attitude whereas Doctor Drakken admittedly isn’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos had disagreements based on how good one member of their duo was at being supervillains. As shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 3: Tale’s End…’, Black Heron said to Bradford that she knew she’d make a villain of him much to Bradford’s annoyance. And as shown in the episode ‘Car Trouble’, Shego taunted Drakken for not being able to handle Doctor Freeman’s kitchen machine AI’s. The difference between them there, though, is how their disagreements center around them being good supervillains. As shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, when Black Heron gleefully said that they’re supervillains, Bradford replied with, “No! We are not!” And as also shown in the episode ‘Car Trouble’, after she shut off Doctor Freeman’s kitchen machine AI’s that were overwhelming Drakken, Shego said to Drakken, “Y’know, for someone who’s supposedly a mad genius, I’m not seeing much of the ‘genius’.” So, Bradford’s and Black Heron’s disagreement centers around whether Bradford is a supervillain whereas Drakken’s and Shego’s disagreement centers around Drakken’s competence when it comes to being a supervillain. Another similarity between them there is that both duos’ disagreements eventually came to a head. As shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 3: Tale’s End…’, Bradford betrayed Black Heron and sent her plummeting to her death. And as shown in the episode ‘Bad Boy’, Shego ditched Drakken in favor of the then-turned-evil Ron Stoppable before going back to Drakken’s side. The difference between them here, though, is how Black Heron and Drakken respectively reacted to their partners’ betrayals. As also shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 3: Tale’s End…’, as she was plummeting to her death, Black Heron smiled at Bradford and said to him, “Oh, Bradford. How villainous.” And as also shown in the episode ‘Bad Boy’, Drakken was mad at Shego for ditching him. So, Black Heron was delighted with Bradford’s betrayal since it showed how villainous he is whereas Doctor Drakken was mad at Shego for her betrayal since she ditched him for another villain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the case of both duos, Bradford and Drakken respectively finally made Black Heron and Shego respectively proud of them. As shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 3: Tale’s End…’ and as I pointed out in my previous point, Black Heron proudly said to Bradford, “I knew I’d make a villain of you.” And as shown in the episode ‘Graduation Part 2’, Shego supported Drakken during his reward ceremony. The difference between them here, though, is how exactly things went down between after that. As also shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure Part 3: Tale’s End…’ and as I also pointed out in my previous point, Bradford sent Black Heron plummeting to her death and just as she was about to meet her demise, Black Heron smiled at Bradford and said to him, “Oh, Bradford. How villainous.” And as shown in the episode ‘Graduation Part 2’, a flower wrapped around Drakken and Shego as they smiled at each other thus implying they were in love with each other. So, things took a darker and more twisted turn in Bradford’s and Black Heron’s case whereas things took a lighter and happier turn in Drakken’s and Shego’s case.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.

Reasons why you should also love Papyrus and his alternate selves:
He’s confident! He’s smart! He’s also a bit oblivious to things but that’s okay. He’s also brave even when he’s scared! He’s pretty lonely since he has a hard time making friends. Which is why he would try to be your friend first rather than hurt you! But he could do some serious damage. He’s pretty mysterious. He’s also pretty. He’s the light of my life. He keeps applying the weirdest things wherever his ears are and I’m going “???”
He’s very overdramatic and tries to be edgy but he’s basically a cartoon’s main villain in terms of goofiness. Okay he may be going through some stuff too but you can’t look me in the eye and tell me he isn’t actually like Skeletor. He’s either high in ranking in the Royal Guard or the captain of it. He has a complicated friendship/rivalry with Undyne (unless they are just friends who train together). He and his brother do care about each other but they show it rarely. Also no, we are not here for that really, really bad take on his behavior towards Sans and others. He also probably doesn’t have a lot friends considering the universe he’s in and his position.
He’s extremely goofy, a prankster and an inventor. He embraces more of his chaotic energy. He somehow is seen as extremely cuddly. I mean… most of the people’s takes on him is Sans 2.0, but that’s for another time because I’m talking about my take on him. He is totally the type who would go “bUt wHaT iF tHeY tHiNk iM a lOsEr???” He does have some anxiety and doesn’t exactly have a lot of friends either. Sort of well-liked by the town, but also are a little weirded out by him and his inventions/pranks. Let him rest please he has a slightly more chaotic brother and he’s taking a break on making stuff.
Since he’s a fell version of Underswap, you can have a lot of different tales on how he’s like. But for me, he is still pretty anxious, tired, and wants to be helpful. He’s a good artist and likes coding. He’s thoughtful and he’s also the embodiment of “it’s the thought that counts”. He doesn’t have a lot of friends either. He needs to do something with his hands. You hand him a child to take care of and he’s like “oh yeah I can do this” but inside he’s freaking out because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Also yeah, he doesn’t know what he’s doing sometimes. He has a complicated, a bit strained relationship with his brother, but he really does care about him and wants to do more for him. He has a lot of low self-esteem issues.
Okay, but listen… he’s an older Papyrus. He’s gone through a lot and his brother tricked him into something that had life-changing consequences. He’s frustrated at him for what he’s done and how he acts. But once they get to the surface, he’s trying to readjust to life and learning to accept that he can’t go back to who he was before. He also wants his brother to change too, despite their relationship being complicated and strained. Also he’s just really tall. And has grown pretty realistic. It’s not a bad thing since he tries to see the good in certain situations.
“who the fuck is the green Papyrus that you keep drawing. who the fuck is he” That’s one of my other loves of my life but I made him and the universe he belongs to green. You know for color theory reasons. He’s a swapped version of Underfell. He’s a defender kind of guy. He’s a self sacrificial kind of guy. He just wants to protect others. This guy has so much going on with him. He tends to be clever with his traps, but sometimes he just goes with a straightforward trap. He’s slightly chaotic. He’s kind of sassy. He doesn’t have any friends. Why did I give him so many jobs to do??? If you ask him to take care of a person or pet or plant, he’s got spirit, but sometimes he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s just trying to remember what his brother normally does when he takes care of something. He’s not a caregiver, but he can try. This guy is really touched starved. He doesn’t like his jobs but things have to be done.
“Is that an Inktale Papyrus?” Yes it is and I love his chaotic energy and the fact that he just eats charcoal as a snack. “I can fix him” no don’t fix him, I love his bluntness and friendliness. I accidentally made him sort of have the same-ish personality as Sonic we are not going to talk about why I did—

sorry if this is odd, but i just wanted to say thanks for how you talk about chara! it's so nice to see someone talk about them in a nuanced, sympathetic way. especially when you answered that ask about the line asriel says, about chara not being a good person. i see so many people try to use that to say chara abused him or was a bully, but i've never thought that was accurate or fair. especially after playing the pacifist route and seeing what a fun, passionate, sassy kid chara is as a narrator. that's not to say they did nothing wrong, but i'd much rather sympathize with them as a traumatized kid doing what they thought was right than blindly view them as a horrible person (when that goes against what undertale set up).
You're welcome and I absolutely agree.
I think it makes very little sense to assume that Chara is the only one-dimensional bad person in the entire game, especially when Flowey is right there to illustrate exactly how a character who behaves like a villain in some circumstances can be a hero too.
Some people are inclined to only take Undertale's characters at face value, but you miss the entire point of the game if you do that - and not taking them all at face value also means not trusting any of them blindly.
It means not assuming Toriel is always right and kind, that Papyrus is naive, that Sans is uninterested, that Alphys just wants to help you with no ulterior motives etc. Not a single character in Undertale is just one thing and you can't necessarily trust that what they say isn't based on their own needs and biases.
They're NPCs, but in Undertale the NPCs don't just exist for your benefit, they have their own lives and, even more importantly, their own traumas.
I also think ppl can get really hung up on how little direct info we get about Chara and Asriel's relationship, but I suggest looking at who their in-game parallels are: Undyne and Papyrus.
Chara is tied heavily to Undyne through their similar motivations and they idolize her in the narration and Asriel, by his own admission, connects strongly to Papyrus. I have other posts that elaborate on the parallels, but I think it's very likely that Asriel and Chara were at least as close as Undyne and Papyrus are.
Asriel and Chara were only kids and their story got corrupted, that's why Undertale exists, our "quest" (to quote Papyrus) is to find a way to help lay those two children to rest.

Sanders Sides Ships as Undertale Characters!
@koalaaquabear and I figured all these out together! I may have elaborated on our decisions a bit TOO much in this post, but... that’s what I do best :P ENJOY! (Descriptions for each Side are separated by a semicolon)
Royality: Papyrus - Royal Guard™, loves attention, wants recognition, kind of a big ego but veiled insecurity, tries to date everyone, has big fanciful dreams, dramatic; sweet and kindhearted, cooks food for you (albeit not always very well), loves everyone loudly and unconditionally, sometimes a bit oblivious, excitable, in love with pasta, goofball. A cool dude made for hugging.
(Alternately, Royality is also Greater Dog. He's literally a cute puppy who's a knight)
Analogical: Alphys - anxious, afraid of social interaction, cares deeply about her friends but is constantly worried she’s bothering them, obsesses over past mistakes; nerdy, geek, inventor, actual genius, embodiment of the “as a gay scientist,” post. Basically the (not-so-mad) scientist who experiments in their basement, is scared of messing up, and bad at dealing with emotions.
Logicality: Toriel - teacher, loves books and learning, wants to read to you and share fun facts, has shelves FULL of books and keeps everything nice and organized, calm exterior, has already prepared you a curriculum for your education; sweetest goat mom, parental, loves puns, will bake you a pie, such a Mom/Dad™, will call you every 3 seconds to make sure you’re okay. Everything you could want in a parent/teacher combo.
Prinxiety: Undyne - fiery passion, fights in the royal guard, dynamic, LOUD, has literally 0 chill, strong personality, will lift you for fun, sassy, competitive, a hero; intensely protective of her friends (like, FIERCELY), suspicious of everyone, takes a lot for her to trust new people, defensive, always vigilant and on guard. Will fight you to protect her friends. Chaotic gay.
(Also, Prinxiety is low-key burgerpants - just an anxious dude who wanted to be an actor)
Moxiety: Sans - absolutely loves his brother with all his heart, makes friends easily, everyone loves him, P U N S, loves food, supportive of friends, total sweetheart; deep and mysterious, keeps to himself, worried about a lot of things at once but pretends he’s chill, is afraid of a lot because he knows a lot, mushier than he lets on.
(Moxiety is also kinda like the Nice Cream Guy - super nice fella, gets worried a lot that people won’t buy/like his ice cream, but still smiles)
Logince: Mettaton - enjoys quizzes and gameshows involving trivia and facts, helped to plan, design, and build his new body (could be attributed to both Logan and Roman tbh), likes being in charge (again, both of them), is a robot but not really, can SING, would absolutely dab unironically; theatrical, flamboyant, has a bit of an ego but in a lovable way, stylish AF, lives for the applause, drama queen. A very Extra™ pair.
BONUS:
Remy: Annoying Dog - sleeps all the time, a total troll, Sassy McSasspants, would totally wear sunglasses, winks, leaves JUST WHEN YOU NEED HIM I STG I WANT SLEEP AND THAT ARTIFACT
Deceit: Flowey - I mean... do I need to explain, or? He tries to trick you the whole game and lies constantly... but he’s still a fun and interesting villain.
Thomas: Asgore - (we’re ignoring the whole souls thing lol) The ruler of them all who just likes flowers and tea, and loves every one of them dearly. A softie who gives big warm hugs and wants the best for everyone. Loyal and emotionally-driven, a silly, kindhearted fatherly type. Lord Fluffybuns.

What's your favorite think about each of your F/Os?
HHHHHHHHHHH okay here we go. this is gonna be a long one lol.
🌭 Sans - My favorite thing about this guy is that he quite literally saved my life. Back in 2015 when I first played Undertale, I was in a super abusive relationship. I had been trapped in that relationship for 6 years at this point, and was seriously considering suicide. I fell in love with Sans and the first time I beat the game, the pacifist neutral route, his phone call at the end really stuck with me. “don’t give up wherever you are, ok?” It really felt like he was speaking to *me*, not just the “player”. My love for him led me to my fiancé, Shadysans, who gave me the courage to leave my abuser. I know it’s cheesey as hell but damn, Sans heckin’ saved me. I’ll always love him for that.
🎩 Black Hat - This turd. I’ve always had a weakness for villains/evil characters and he just fit perfectly into my heart. I’m not really sure what my favorite thing about him is tbh?? Could be his temper and the fact that he’d absolutely kill me sfhddgghddfssdh but I like to imagine maybe he’d have a soft spot for me.
🌈 The Warden - Good lord, this boy is so so sweet and just wants to help people. Granted he has the worst way of going about it, but I can’t blame him considering the abuse he endured growing up. He’s just so bright and cheerful and so dedicated to treating his inmates well. He just cares too much and didn’t have the childhood he deserved.
❄️ Loki - God of mischief, and adorably so. I love the way he commands respect but also isn’t immune to humiliation. His character development over the Thor movies is wonderful, and I can’t help but feel so so sorry for him in the first two. He radiates chaotic neutral energy, I’m so happy when he finally gets to a point where he can just do what he wants without directly harming anyone. Granted, leaving Odin at an old folk’s home was pretty shitty but he could’ve done much worse considering his past actions. I want to give him the love and admiration he so desperately wants and deserves.
🐻 Mogar - What can I say, he’s a feral version of Micheal and I love him. Idk what it is with me and animalistic characters I just.. OOPH they’re so attractive. Truth be told I haven’t actually watched the entirety of X-Ray and Vav (I intend to don’t worry). Honestly I just have a huge crush on Michael so I just quietly ship myself with Mogar since shipping yourself with real people is kinda weird and creepy, especially when that person is married with kids lol. Don’t get me wrong, I love Lindsay and Iris with all my heart and I’m so happy for their little family (I can’t believe they’re having another kid already omggg).
🍝 Papyrus - Sans’ little bro and my second favorite skeleton. He’s so precious and just wants the best for people. He still believes in you to do the right thing, even in the genocide route (which I’ve NEVER done and won’t ever do lol). He is so supportive and some days I just need a good kick in the ass from someone like him to inspire me to do the best that I possibly can.
😈 Luci - Ah yes, the embodiment of all my intrusive thoughts. Like I said before, I just have a weakness for evil characters, and this little shit fit right in. I love his sarcastic and sassy attitude, but also the way he cares for Bean?? Like he’s such a huge enabler but he also doesn’t want her to get hurt. I think that’s so sweet considering he’s a literal demon.
😡 Dan Mandel - My angry trash husband, hell-bent on getting revenge for everything that’s ever wronged him. I honestly relate to his frustration and just love his sass. He’s absolutely horrible, but can also just be so sweet.
🐱 Ichimatsu - He’s just… So messed up and I love it. He loves cats and probably suffers from depression, just like me so I just immediately gravitated towards him. I can imagine just laying with him for hours with our cats.
