✧ HER HIGHNESS, MY DIVINE ! ✧
Tumblr media
⋆⚡️— Pairings: jing yuan x fem! reader
⋆⚡️— Sypnosis: You are the oldest heir to the throne of the Xianzhou Luofu and as per tradition, you needed to find a spouse to rule the kingdom with, for diplomatic reasons. Jing Yuan seemed to oppose that.
⋆⚡️ — content: fem! reader, jealous jing yuan, and angst (slight Dan Feng x reader.)
⋆⚡️ — A/N: You and jing yuan had grown up together, he was assigned to you when the two of you were 17.
Also life has been very busy rn, so part two will happen but it'll take a while.
✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧
“I will dispose of him for you,” Jing Yuan says, on his knees in front of you. His hands are rough, but so gentle as they clasp your hand.
“Your Highness, please, it is of little consequence to me. I would rot in prison if you asked me to.”
He doesn’t care that he’s been reduced to begging. He cannot stand to let you marry that man. You’re the heir of the Xianzhou Luofu, you should deserve someone better. As your knight, Jing Yuan only wants the best for you.
"There's no reason for you to do so, This is only marriage for the benefit of the kingdom, it is my duty. I will be fine, my dear knight."
Your silk-gloved hands covered his in a soothing manner.
"It will be okay." You whispered softly.
"As you wish, Your Highness,” Jing Yuan said, but he was clearly not at ease with your decision. He keeps his mouth shut and his hands at his sides.
You can't see the tension in his shoulders. He knows it’s not his place to interfere in the affairs of the empire, but he wants nothing more than to protect you from your impending marriage to the Imbibitor Lunae.
Jing Yuan would do anything for you.
You only have to ask.
"I may be blind to some things, my knight. But I'm not blind to the fact that you are concerned about this matter. Be at ease, my knight, there is no need for you to worry."
Your hand ruffled through his soft snowy hair at his kneeled position. Jing Yuan's whole being relaxes. Any tension he held within himself melts away like sunlight melting fresh snow in spring. Your touch is pure magic.
His knighthood is both an honor and his entire world. He has dedicated his life to your service... but your touch makes him forget about that for a moment. He is your best friend, first and foremost.
Your eyes crinkled as your eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh, My knight, My Jing Yuan. Please do not feel anguish, There's still a chance for you to serve another princess...maybe one of my sisters?"
Sighing softly, your gloved hands retract from his hair and rest on your lap.
Jing Yuan shakes his head firmly.
"I...I cannot serve any princess like I serve you," he tells you. "To serve anyone else would be an insult, Your Highness."
It is his duty to be a knight, you see, but it is more than that for Jing Yuan. You are his world. He cannot imagine spending the rest of his life serving another.
"I only want to serve you," he tells you softly.
"Now, don't be like that, my knight. I will not let you wallow in your sorrow because of me."
"I cannot help but feel sorrow, Your Highness," He explains. He takes a deep breath, trying to regain his composure.
"But you are right… I cannot let that get in the way of my duty to you. No matter what comes next, I will remain faithful to you."
He stands up, finally, and offers you a slight bow.
"My sword is yours to command, Your Highness."
Jing Yuan's expression is resolute.
"But, If I cannot serve you, I will serve no one," he says. "There is no other princess whose life matters to me. I am your loyal knight, and your loyal knight you will always have."
Jing Yuan will not be swayed by your wishes. He will not leave your side and serve some other princess.
You sighed, your frame shivering by the coldness of the royal hall, cold and empty.
"Stand, my knight." You whispered.
JIng Yuan stands up quickly.
"Yes, Your Highness."
He is standing at attention, ready to hear your next wish. Anything you want. He will follow all your orders, even if you wish to marry another, he will stand by your side.
It is his life's purpose. His raison d'etre.
"Please call upon my lady-in-waiting. I must prepare for dinner with Lord Dan Feng tonight."
You leaned against the armrest of the throne for support as you stood, the thick fur coat weighed heavily on your shoulders.
"And please....be on your best behavior, Jing Yuan."
"At once."
He left, and after a few moments, he returned.
Jing Yuan bowed deeply as he stepped in front of you.
"Is there anything else Your Highness requires?" He asks.
"I'll be heading to my chambers."
Your steps were light and quiet against the floor. The sleeves and the ends of your hanfu brushed against the smooth marble floor.
"Oh, and please tell the maids and chefs to get the dining hall ready for dinner at once."
You adjust the fur coat over yourself to protect your body from the cold and you let out a sigh.
You walk towards the doors of the throne room, feeling a heavy weight on your shoulder.
"It will be done, Your Highness," Jing Yuan replies. His voice is formal, but there is a clear pride and reverence in it. He serves you and is happy to be your knight.
Jing Yuan watches you as you walk down the length of the hall. Even as you leave his line of sight, your back is still straight, your steps proud, your beauty… unmatched.
✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧
Your maid and chefs have quickly turned the dining hall into a place worthy of Lord Dan Feng.
You are seated at the head of the grand table. With Jing Yuan lingering near the door, but still close to you. Servants bustle around the room in preparation for the main course of the evening, but your head chef serves you and Lord Dan Feng a meal of various dishes of meats, vegetables, seasonal desserts, and sweet rice wine.
"Lord Dan Feng, I hope you enjoy the meal."
With elegant movements and a well-mannered way of talking, You started the conversation.
Dan Feng, known as Imbibitor Lunae was a feared emperor in his kingdom. Rumors spread across nations, for his strict and slightly unjust way of ruling.
He had sharp ears, as well as teal horns. A son of a Vidyadhara indeed. But he was beautiful, with a tall, slender figure with black hair, fair skin, and agate green eyes, enhanced by the red eyeliner that underlined them.
He was draped in a green and gold hanfu, paired the the black fur that was once from a magnificent beast that was a disturbance from his kingdom the Scalegorge Waterscape.
"Your Royal Highness, the food in your kingdom is as exquisite as I remembered."
The two of you make polite small talk as you eat your meal. Dan Feng is the first to return to the main topic.
"Your Royal Highness," he asks, as your servants fill the two of you’s glasses. "What is your impression of our latest round of negotiations with your neighboring kingdom?"
"It has been well executed. Our kingdom's affairs will be settled at a much faster and smoother pace now."
Dan Feng nods, accepting your response.
"Indeed. Our kingdom's harmony will only advance from here onwards."
Dan Feng's face becomes serious. He puts his glass down.
"It is a great honor to be invited to your table." His voice is low and measured.
"But I would be a fool to not think about what this dinner could mean for the future." He takes a sip of his wine.
"We have talked business. Now, I would like to talk of union."
Jing Yuan's grip on the sheath of his blade tightened.
"Yes, I've been wanting to talk about that."
Your frame sat straighter, as you examined Dan Feng's expression, he had a sly smirk on his lips and his vibrant eyes looking into yours.
Your rose-colored lips curled into a soft smile after you took a sip from your wine.
"A marriage between our kingdoms would secure a political alliance the likes of which has not been seen by our nation in decades."
He leans closer towards you.
"I wish to have an empress, who is as radiant and wise as you. If our kingdom joined together, the entire world will tremble."
He reaches out to your hand and takes it into his own with a gentle touch.
Jing Yuan felt his jealousy coiling around his heart like a serpent.
Dan Feng has made a direct and deliberate show of his intentions. Not only is this dinner a display of his political strengths, it is also a declaration of his intent to marry you.
Jing Yuan watches this exchange from his station by the door. He cannot hide his jealousy… or his anger.
His eyes are fixed upon you, his princess, his every sense alert to any threats that may come your way.
"I am flattered, Your Grace. Thank you for your sweet words." You were flustered, trying to keep composure.
Dan Feng leans in closer. He seems to be studying you, but it does not feel like an inspection as he looks over your face, your hair, your hands. It feels like you may be the most important, most beautiful thing in the room.
Finally, he leans closer, your breath catches in your throat.
All you can hear are the quiet whispers of the servants, the crackling of the fire....
And Jing Yuan's armor clinking as he moves.
You notice Dan Feng's gaze on you, studying your face like someone who has already decided what they wants to do. He is direct and leaves no room for uncertainty. His words are simple, yet his message is made clear: he wants you to be his wife.
"Lord Dan Feng, I believe this would be inappropriate to do before marriage." You whispered, breathing quite heavily.
It was clear that you were put off by the close distance. The smell of the sickly sweet wine and the scent that Dan Feng had, made your head spin.
"My apologies for my forwardness, Your Highness," Dan Feng replies quickly. Jing Yuan can practically feel in insincerity of Dan Feng's words as his temper boils within him.
"I meant nothing by it."
Dan Feng is a gentleman when he wants to be. He pulls away, leaving the smallest bit of space between you. He is no longer trying to make physical contact.
He has learned to control his emotions and is once again calm and collected.
"The marriage is to be arranged soon," Dan Feng adds, "It will be of benefit to our people."
You nodded.
"It will, I hope this will bring prosperity to our kingdoms."
A small smile plays across Dan Feng's lips. His eyes remain on you.
"I see what my advisors have said is true. You are beautiful and wise."
His words are like poison to Jing Yuan's ears.
"Our unions will be fruitful. Together, we will lead this world into a new age."
His words are laced with honey. His gaze never breaks from yours.
Jing Yuan's jaw clenches.
The two of you continued eating in silence, enjoying the atmosphere as the royal bards were singing a tune. A few cups of wine later, Jing Yuan could see the color spreading across your cheeks, you were never a heavy drinker.
Dan Feng was eyeing you from across the table, like a prize that he needed to grab and keep for himself. The fact that you failed to notice it made Jing Yuan even more possessive.
Dan Feng leaned closer yet again, seemingly wanting to kiss you.
Jing Yuan couldn't stand it anymore. He stood next to you, a gentle and possessive gesture.
"Your Grace," His voice is gentle yet firm, "I believe that Her Highness said that close contact is not appropriate before marriage."
He said that with a mocking tone.
His eyes are focused on the man beside you, who has taken such liberties in his conduct with you, His princess. Dan Feng seems unfazed as he meets your knight's gaze. Jing Yuan wants to strangle this man for his audacity.
"Please refrain from doing anything to Her Highness, or I will-"
"Jing Yuan."
You said in a warning tone.
"At ease."
Jing Yuan snaps to attention immediately upon hearing your voice.
"Your Highness," he bows his head deeply.
He will not let a single thought in his mind or emotion escape his body unless you, his princess allow it.
He stares daggers at Dan Feng, but his expression remains neutral…. but any outside could see the burning, lethal gaze in his eyes. Jing Yuan will not dare say a single word out of turn again.
A servant refills Dan Feng's wine.
Dan Feng drinks deeply and grins wolfishly at your knight.
"I see that you care deeply for the Princess," he says with a sneer, looking over at Jing Yuan. "Your service to her is admirable."
Your Knight stares right back, expressionless.
"I hope you do not mind me being so close." Dan Feng leans towards you again, his green eyes fixed on your face. His voice is sweet, like honey, but the threat in his words is clear.
Jing Yuan does not answer.
He is clearly upset, angry, and jealous at the sight of this man. This man, who is trying to steal you from him.
He stands by your side, unmoving, trying his best to hide his emotions… not only from you but from himself.
His loyalty will never falter, but he wants this man to go away, Jing Yuan gets the impression that Dan Feng doesn't like him either.
The glint in Dan Feng's eyes irked him.
✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧
"It's getting late, Lord Dan Feng. Would you like for my maids to prepare a room for you?"
Dan Feng smiles, and puts his glass down.
"Why, thank you, your Highness."
He rises from the table, and bows his head.
"Please, allow me to spend one more night as a guest of the Xianzhou Luofu. I will be on my way tomorrow before dawn."
He gives you a little wink, which you notice, and so does Jing Yuan, who can only give Dan Feng a death glare.
"Then, I'll let my maids see you to it."
Dan Feng is taken away to a guest bedroom.
Your knight stands next to you, looking out the large window into the darkness.
Finally, he clears his throat.
"Your Highness." He whispers. His body language is stiff, almost as if he wants his jealousy to be noticed. It is difficult for him to contain his emotions, but he cannot allow himself to say words that may bring harm to you.
"Could we speak in private?" He says quickly.
But that made you even more agitated.
"What happened back there?!"
Jing Yuan was surprised by the tone of your voice.
"He's trying to seduce you, Your Highness."
Jing Yuan is angry, his arms crossed, his body tense.
He's not sure how to process what has happened. His mind is spinning as he tries to remain calm and professional for your sake.
"He was being…inappropriate. If it were anyone else, I would have removed them from your presence myself."
He is talking as little as he can, in calming his anger.
"That doesn't mean you have to threaten him like that! Did you forget who he is?!" You whisper-shouted.
"His Grace is a guest, Your Highness."
Jing Yuan's face is full of conflicting emotions. He is worried for you, angry at Dan Feng, but even so, he does not want to risk harm upon to you or your kingdom by acting against Dan Feng.
He is used to keeping his emotions in check. But it's almost painful for him not to go over to Dan Feng and throw him out of your palace with his own two hands.
"I cannot allow some foreign prince to touch you so freely, to gaze at you with such lust and hunger…"
Jing Yuan's voice trails off.
"And he is going to be my wedded husband by contract! Do you know the consequences if you harmed him, our nations would go to war !" You exclaimed.
"Yes, I'm aware, Your Highness."
His face is blank, but his heart is full of turmoil.
He hates having to stand by as some foreign prince takes such liberties with the woman he loves.
But he cannot betray your trust. He will not defy your orders.
The knight turns back to you, eyes darting between your face, the floor, and the windows… anything to avoid looking at your face directly.
"Your Highness," Jing Yuan's voice is tense and formal. "May I ask why you are… entertaining his advances?
You sighed, your body seemed to deflate like a balloon.
"Because I thought that maybe, it would assure me that he wouldn't back out from this agreement."
Jing Yuan's face twitches in confusion.
"Your Highness, are you saying you… do not want this marriage?"
His tone and face are utterly blank, but you can tell that he is surprised by your admission.
He clears his throat, hoping to move this subject of conversation into more acceptable terrain.
"Why would he back out of this arrangement? This marriage would benefit both kingdoms, this is simply a political decision. You have no intention of… becoming close with him?"
"The kingdoms' safety is paramount and my hands are tied politically. But you must understand that… I need this marriage to happen. I cannot let the sacrifices of my parents go in vain."
You swiftly avoided his question.
There is a deep conflict in your heart. "I have to marry him. It's the only way this kingdom would survive."
"Little finch," you feel Jing Yuan's eyes burning into you. Your knight yearns to touch you, to kiss you, to hug you. His desire becomes more and more apparent. But he knows this is not the way. He is to be your knight, your protector, nothing more.
But the way you put it so clearly. Your marriage is necessary to keep your kingdom safe. He understands the importance of your duty… but even more so than that… He wants you to be happy and he knows this marriage is the opposite of happiness.
You chuckled sadly. "You haven't called me that in years."
"Just please, Jing Yuan. You have been my best friend since we were 17. Please understand how this means so much to me and this kingdom. It's my responsibility as the oldest heir."
You've never seen Jing Yuan so… sad before.
He's always been disciplined and has never let his emotions get the better of him. But this… this is hurting him greatly.
He takes a deep breath and then looks up at you.
"I will not stand in the way of your marriage, Your Princess."
He kneels before you and puts his head down, letting his hair fall forward. His expression was steady but his voice wasn't.
"The interests of the Kingdom come before my personal affairs."
"Personal affairs? Jing Yuan, what do you mean by that?"
Jing Yuan remains focused on looking at the ground, his voice clear as he answers.
"Little finch, I have fallen in love with you," he says, the words falling from his lips as if it were no big deal, and yet, he feels it weigh upon him like the heaviest burden.
"The thought of you… marrying Dan Feng hurts me greatly. It pains me that I cannot offer you my love and honor in place of his."
There is a slight pause before he continues.
"And yet, I will not interfere."
"Jing Yuan, I— How long have you felt like this?" You stuttered.
"It started as a childish crush," Jing Yuan answers promptly, not bothering to look up from the ground.
You have never seen him show this much emotion around you before. You didn't think he knew how.
"But as time went on, these feelings… this love has only ever grown stronger. I can't put it into words, Your Highness!"
He shakes his head slightly, ashamed of his emotions.
"I will always protect you, to care for you as your best friend, and yet…my love for you is too much to ignore."
"When I saw him touch you... when he took your hand and stared at you... when he winked at you," Jing Yuan takes a deep breath.
"It made my blood boil."
"I wish I could give you everything. I wish I could give you my heart."
This statement rings in your ears louder than anything else before.
It's an admission of love and an admission of how painful it is for him not to be your lover.
"A knight has no reason to fall in love with his Princess. It is a betrayal of everything I am. But I cannot deny it," his voice drops to almost a whisper, but the sheer amount of emotion behind them carries the words far.
"My divine princess, I love you." He whispered.
Your gaze shot up to look at him as those words escaped his mouth,
"You probably will not see me as anything more than your knight, but I cannot deny my feelings. I want you to be happy, and I will continue my duty, but... I wanted to confess my love for you before you married Dan Feng."
✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧
Love.
The words burn in your ears as more and more emotion pours out of his words
He is not ashamed of his words. He does not hide his love from your eyes. He holds nothing back and tells you the truth.
Jing Yuan, your best friend loves you. He loves you so much.
And he will never be yours.
Your mind is spinning.
Does he think he has no chance with you? Or does he already know and is merely professing his love before it is too late?
"Jing Yuan." You let out a choked sob.
"I can't-"
Jing Yuan's heart breaks as you sob. He cannot help but place a hand on your shoulder.
The movement is gentle and careful, but you can feel his hand tremble slightly. His voice is soft, gentle even.
Pleading.
"My princess, you do not have to say anything. I just wanted… I just wanted to tell you how I felt before you married Dan Feng. That is all."
He looks down at the ground.
"I will not… I cannot be anything more, I know this. But I had to tell you…"
"…you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen…the most wonderful person I have ever met," Jing Yuan whispers.
"I will cherish my time as your knight, as your best friend, until you no longer need my protection."
He bows his head deeply, looking at the floor.
"Your happiness…is my happiness. For as long as you allow my services, I will offer them gladly. Even if you marry Dan Feng and have heirs, I will still guard you," The sliver-haired man says, his voice still filled with emotion.
"Jing Yuan…." You were devastated, you couldn't process this, everything was happening so fast.
He seems to brace himself for the worst— for an outcry from you, for a scream or a slap, anything negative.
But you simply take his hand.
You take your knight's hand without a word.
"I understand…" Jing Yuan says quietly.
"It was selfish of me to tell you this when it will only hurt you, but I do not regret my words. Your happiness is my mission… your joy is my joy, and your sorrows are my sorrows."
He is utterly loyal to you, and you alone.
"You should go, I need a moment to myself." You said quietly.
He stares at you… looking into your eyes. It's impossible for him to look away.
"As you wish," he whispers, releasing your hand.
He stands, turning to walk out—but he takes a second before he leaves.
"Please know that… regardless of how this marriage pans out," Jing Yuan's voice drops to a whisper, "I will always be here for you. Whenever you need me, a whisper of my name is enough."
With this, your knight leaves, allowing you to collect your thoughts.
He just hoped that you wouldn't hate him after this.

pairing: armin arlert x gn!reader
type: fic
wc: 1.2k
tw: mentions of religious practices, christianity/catholicism, calling things "cult-like"/calling religion a cult, swearing, panic attacks
a/n: projecting because i'm having to do religion stuff that i don't want to and i want armin to comfort me. lowercase intended, i'm in too much of a shitty mood to care. promise i'm working on the requests- life is hard rn
you were sitting in the pew with the rest of your group, blankly listening as the priest talked for what seemed to be the millionth time that day about jesus this and jesus that.
if jesus was real, he wouldn't make me go through this hell, you thought.
your religion had been one of the main sources of your anxiety since you were little. for as long as you could remember, just stepping foot in a church was enough to make your heart race and your palms sweat. it wasn't that you didn't believe in your religion- you didn't, but it was more how your mother and father forced you to be a part of it.
a shitty promise years ago, made when they got married, was why you were sitting here, waiting for your three-day retreat to end. your father wasn't even religious, and it wasn't like the contract was legally binding- so why were you here?
you didn't realize you were crying until the rest of the world faded out to black and you heard someone talking.
"hey, why're you crying?"
you looked around in fear, wondering where you were.
where did everyone go...?
it was a welcome change from the homily you'd been listening to, but this wasn't much better. a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes was kneeling in front of you, and you yelped, backing up.
"don't worry, i won't hurt you," he said, putting his hands up.
pulling your knees to your chest, you sniffled, more tears slipping down your cheeks.
"where am i?" you asked quietly, trying to find a way to get out.
"i.. don't know. all of a sudden it was black, and now i'm here, and now you're here! which is great, you seem great, but i'm confused- why are you crying? who are you? where am i?"
you looked at him, wondering what to say.
"i could ask you the same thing," you mumbled, wiping at your eyes furiously to try and get the tears to stop.
"one minute i was in church, and now i'm here."
he nodded, a smile on his face despite the situation.
"i'm armin arlert! you can call me armin though. before this, i was with my friends!"
he seemed so happy to see you, even though he'd just met you.
"oh. i'm y/n. like i said, i was in church."
armin nodded again, switching to sitting instead of kneeling.
"what's church?" he asked, tilting his head. he reminded you of a puppy- eager to please and happy to be alive. there was a darker side though, you could sense he wasn't having the greatest time of his life either.
"church is where i go to pray to someone that may or may not have existed. today, we're having a cult meeting, called 'exposition'."
you rolled your eyes at the thought of having to do this tomorrow, with no phone and no distractions to save you.
"they tell us that we all suck because we're human, and the only way to go to heaven is if we beg for forgiveness from god."
armin made a face, letting you continue.
"i don't like it very much. it makes me anxious," you finished, squeezing your eyes shut to clear your head of the previous half hour.
"then why do you go?" he asked, eyes widening.
he had pretty eyes, you decided.
"my parents make me. i don't get a choice- but if i got to choose, i'd spend my weekends at home instead of at church."
"oh," armin said, nodding again.
"well, i don't think it's worth crying over, y'know? if it's only for a few days, then i believe in you!"
he smiled at you, tugging at a strand of his hair thoughtfully.
"but if it's really that bad, maybe you should try to tell your parents about it? i mean, i've been in sucky situations before, but i don't really know what 'god' is, so i can't say much."
you stared at him, thinking.
"why are you so happy to be here? you got ripped away from your friends and now you're here with me, who's a mess because someone told me god existed."
saying those words alone were almost enough to make you cry. you barely remembered what had been happening before you ended up in this empty space with armin, but it hadn't been good. your breathing had been too fast, and you were pretty sure you were having some sort of panic attack. they'd said exposition was going to invoke emotions, but no one noticing while you were clearly in distress brought out a different kind of pain- one you didn't know you could feel.
"because!" armin said, smiling again.
"you're sad! and i don't think you should be sad, so i want to make you happy again! besides, you seem like a nice person, someone who shouldn't have to cry because their parents won't step in."
you smiled at that. a tiny smile, yes, but a smile all the same.
"your friends must be lucky," you murmured, closing your eyes for a second.
the latin words from the 'mass' (it wasn't an official one, not really) were flooding your brain, taking over. the chanting and singing had been enough to make you scared, just like usual. with less people and no music, it had been one of the creepiest things you'd ever done.
"what if-" you started, then stopped.
"what if i can't get through tomorrow?" you asked, not sure what armin would say. what were you supposed to say to someone having a breakdown?
he thought for a minute, saying nothing at first, and you began to get worried.
what if there's no solution? what if, tomorrow, i freak out in front of everyone and they send me home?
"then i'll come back!" he said, startling you.
"you'll... come back? why?"
armin grinned, standing up and offering you a hand.
"you shouldn't have to be sad! i'll make you happy, don't worry!"
you took his hand and stood up, watching the way he spread his arms out protectively. the stupid pose made you giggle a little, and the anxiety you'd been feeling before was almost gone now.
"you will? how?"
he shrugged.
"i'll think really hard about you. i'll be like, 'y/n might be sad right now, i should check,' and it'll bring me back!"
he smiled again, and you felt your knees get a little weak.
he's pretty, you thought.
"okay, armin. i'll think about you when i'm sad and try to come back," you answered, smiling a little.
"armin? hello? anyone in there?" a voice called. you both jumped, and he looked at you sheepishly.
"those are my friends," he said, turning to head towards the voices.
"i'll see you tomorrow?" you asked, not wanting him to leave just yet.
he turned back, still smiling.
"of course! anything to see you smile!"
your shoulder slumped a little in relief, and as he disappeared, so did you, the black fading back into church. the ritual was almost over now, and you were smiling for once.
never thought i'd see the day where i smiled in a church.
you weren't sure if that was real- if any of it was real, really, but when you closed your eyes all you could see was the blonde boy with blue eyes and a pretty smile. you replayed his words over and over in his head, hoping that, no matter what, you'd see him tomorrow.

Hello, and Goodbye / Klaus Hargreeves Imagine
Tumblr media
Request: How good was season 2 of umbrella academy! Can I request a Klaus x reader where he meets a young woman in the 60s and they fall in love. Only to have a heartfelt goodbye when Klaus has to travel back to 2019?
Noooo @billhaderstrashbag I’m so EMOTIONAL RN <3
Warning, some strong language!
Comments and reblogs are really really appreciated!
Klaus always forgot how uncomfortable the ground was, until he was being shoved down onto it.
In his mind, when he rushed out of that muddy, dirty alleyway and straight into 1960s Dallas, everything would like a clean slate. The diner he had randomly chosen to run into, where no one knew who he was, and no one knew he had helped bring about the end of the world, he thought, would be vibrant, buzzing with young people so familiar and yet so different from him, and rock n roll would be playing on some crappy jukebox in the back. The servers would be in bright uniforms, likely on roller skates. Everything would be classic, refurbished and perfect. If only, he ended up thinking when he landed on the pavement, he had paid more attention during Reginald’s history lessons.
On bursting through the double doors his smile faded. The place was dingy, cluttered and smelt of old frying oil, the seat covers in the bays were faded red and ripped, and the servers had sneered at him almost immediately when he had slid into one of the booths.
‘You smell, and you’re chasing away all my customers pretty boy, so stay out!’
Landing in a dirty puddle, Klaus blows drops of water off his lips and watch them angrily fall back to the floor with a contemptuous shake of his head. He hated being wet, and he hated, more than anything, being left to fend for himself again.
‘Fine!’, he shouts resigned to the floor. He ignores Ben’s shaking head as he grimaces, rubbing his elbow as he pulls himself up to a sitting position. ‘Your food smells shit anyway, you couldn’t pay me to eat it!’
‘We’ve been here, what, twenty minutes and you’ve already pissed someone off. Nice going, dumbass.’
‘Oh shut your pie hole Ben, I’ve already been abandoned by enough family members today.’
‘Well hello there, stranger. You’re looking awfully crumpled down there. Need a hand?’
Klaus glanced up from where he was sitting on the floor, noticing first not the hand that had fallen down, outstretched to him in the first kind gesture he had received in, well, months, but the jewel on your finger instead. In the golden Dallas sunlight, it glittered like the sun-kissed ocean lapping the sands, and so he grabbed onto your hand, gently pulling it off your finger and snapping it shut in his palm as you graciously pulled him up.
The second thing, Klaus Hargreeves noticed, was how beautiful you were. He felt almost bad for stealing your jewellery, but as you smiled at him, all worries melted from his head and instead he found himself giving you a dopey, love sick grin in return. Ben, already seeing where this was going, only rolled his eyes and turned to walk off down the street.’
‘What would your name be, young man?’
‘Uh...Klaus! I’m Klaus, and I am delighted to meet you. Enchante.’ He wiggles his eyebrows as he kisses the back of your hand.
‘Hello there Klaus. It’s very wonderful, if a little odd, to meet you.’
~
The morning had broken like the sweet melody of a blackbird, full of promise, freshness and newness to come when you had woken up in Klaus’ arms this morning. Now it sat like a cold cup of coffee waiting to be drained away.
As soon as you stepped back into your home, and dropped the groceries off by the front table in the hallway, you knew something was wrong.
None of the lights were on, was the first clue, despite how late in the afternoon it was. Klaus had told you long ago about the number of times he was left to fend for himself in the darkness of his dad Mausoleum, and from then on at least one light was always left on in the mansion.
Yet there he was, standing in the half-light of the living room, almost looking like the shadows he’d spent his whole life trying to avoid. Hunched over, you could already see his shoulders were trembling underneath his black trench coat, and you already knew, although you tried to shake the thought out of your mind as you stepped towards him, that your time was up.
Pausing by the doorway for a moment, you let your eyes roam over him before he noticed you were there. You’d have to go in eventually, you know you did, but at least this way, before you placed your hand against his shoulder and broke him out of his nightmare, you had a few moments to prepare.
He shattered underneath your touch like fragments of stardust, lips quivering as he turns to you. Trying to put on airs, he fails to smile at you, his lips only slightly twitching in his usual half smirk. You can see it in his eyes, the ones that bore so desperately into your own, as he turns to grab onto your fingers, that he’s thinking of pleading, of begging, of getting down onto his knees and asking the universe why it won’t allow him to keep one good thing, anybody in his life that he loves more than himself.
Instead, you speak first, not allowing him the chance to crumble.
‘You have to go, don’t you.’
He doesn’t say anything, can’t find any of the right words to say to someone he loves this much. Instead he just allows his heart to ache in that familiar way it had since he was a child, that intimate knowledge and feeling of loneliness and heartbreak as he keeps scanning your face, trying to find anyway out of it this time. He wanted nothing from his life, nothing, no fame, no drugs, hell he would even take the ghosts, if he could just spend one more day in your company.
Eventually he lets go of your hands, biting his lower lip as he reaches into the back pocket of his black bell bottom jeans, pulling something easily out.
‘I was going to ask you to marry me, but I’m not sure we have time for that riggght now.’
His tone is a false cheery you can see right through, but what he couldn’t stop were the shaking of his hands as he holds the diamond out in front of you. The same one, you realise with a gasp, he had stolen from you the first day you had met. You had always thought, as you were pulled along in the tidal wave of this troubled young man, unknowable but all encompassing, that he had pawned it in order to find a better life for himself, for the two of you. The truth, in fact, hurt more.
Trying to collect your thoughts, you only cup his hand, letting the ring fall back into his palm, before gently cupping his fingers closed and just allowing him to tremble in your touch.
‘I would have loved to marry you. Keep it, but do me a favour? Don’t let me know when you’re going. This is the last memory I want to have of us - a happy one.’
‘But I don’t want to leave.’
His bright green eyes locked onto yours, and you could see then all the torment he had faced in his life, as if some ravaging storm had been encased within his soul. He opened his mouth as if to speak again, but only blubbered, trying to fight back his tears. Eventually, so uncharacteristically for him, he quietly managed to whisper, ‘please don’t leave me.’
Then the storm was let loose - the ocean started to leak, little water droplets streaming down Klaus’ rosy cheeks, burning so hotly against his skin in a way they hadn’t since he was ten years old, during Reginald’s first experiment.
‘Please don’t leave me alone again. I don’t want to go.’
‘Well I’m telling you that you have to. You trust me, right? Well I’m telling you, Klaus, my love, that I am not more important than the end of the world.’
Klaus bit his lip, eyes roaming over every piece of furniture in the living room to make sure they don’t connect with yours again. His body squirms against your touch as you pull his hands towards you and encase him in a hug, melting into your arms. His hand desperately clings onto your shoulder, the other pulling away to cup your cheek.
‘...What if you are to me.’
Slowly, and inevitably, you stand up onto your tippy toes and press your lips against Klaus’. It’s soft, and gentle, and familiar, but it’s filled with so much warmth, so much knowledge that you two were always meant to find each other, no matter when or where you were, that you belonged together, if only for a short while. It filled him with warmth, and calmness, tenderness spilling from his heart and rushing to every corner of his body, each inch of him saturated with a love that, yes, he may lose, but he was so glad he had even managed to find in the first place.
Eventually, you pull away and press your forehead against his for a moment, before pushing against his chest and letting him out of your grasp.
‘Goodbye, Klaus.’

I just want to tell you that I LOVE YOU. Please have this soft thought about our lumberjack boy. I can't stop thinking about how much he would love falling in love with a woman who has kid(s) Like this boy ADORES CHILDREN even though he's so tough on the outside. He'd be so fucking cute meeting his girlfriend's kid for the first time. Playing catch with her son in the yard or having a tea party with her daughter. [WHY AM I ONLY SOFT ON TUESDAYS, YOUR FUCKING ASK BOX GETS ALL OF THIS SHIT]
OMG @millenialcatlady WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME TONIGHT?!
I can totally picture like a little girl because I have one of those, lmao. Him meeting her for the first time after of course like a few months of dating, because I would protect my child’s mind before I decided to introduce him at all. And i’d also want to prepare him for my life because kids are a lot of work and if he’s willing to be in it for the longhaul then like marry me plz. But like the first meeting, my daughter would be SO SHY at first and then warm up to him once he got like her bearings and saw what peaked her interests. The first time she hugs him goodbye or.... asks him to PUT HER TO BED AT NIGHT HOLY FUCKING SHIT I JUST COMBUSTED WITH LOVE. He tucks her in and sings her You Are My Sunshine because she loves that song and pets her precious little head to sleep. He’d kiss it once she was totally out and switch the light off, making sure there wasn’t anything in the room to wake her up at night or scare her (omg I'm so dying of fluff rn).
That man would treat her like his own and love her like it was his baby girl and he’d protect her from anything and everything that could harm her.
He’d even cave and go trick or treating with her... Costume and everything just so I could have a night off and so he could get some quality time since he’d been working so much lately. She’d drag him to every single house making him stand at the door with her in her sharkie costume begging for candy (of which she wouldn’t have to like my daughter is fuckin’ gorgeous). He would carry her back to the house after she got tired and lay her down in her bed again and tuck her in, grabbing the bags of candy she'd gotten from everyone.
Then he’d go downstairs to take care of me. Making sure I relaxed while they were gone. He’d pull me in the biggest hug and swoon over the little girl he’s grown to completely fall in love with.
IM SO FUCKIN SOFT SOMEONE WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR ME IM BEGGING ON MY HANDS AND KNEES. IF NOT I’LL WRITE IT AND IT WILL BE SO SELF INDULGENT YOULL ALL PUKE!

I would indeed love to hear the joke, kinda need something hilarious to laugh at rn :)
The Cheerio Joke
alright, so once upon a time there was a cheerio named greg. greg was a whole wheat cheerio.
now, in the world of cheerios there is a sort of class hierarchy based on what flavor of cheerio you are. at the top are the honey nut cheerios- everyone loves them. total crowd pleasers. next are the plain cheerios: not universally loved but very popular with babies and other basic folk. after plain cheerios are chocolate cheerios. they’re rich and flavorful, but an acquired taste. under the chocolate cheerios are frosted ones; they’re sweet and unique but overall not to the same effect as the classic honey nut. then, at the bottom, the lowest of the low, are the whole wheat cheerios. no one likes them- sure they get bought but just by people pretending to enjoy them in hopes to be healthy. they are considered the scum of the cheerio world.
so, greg was at the bottom of the cheerio social ladder. because of this he had a lowly job, working in an ice cream shop. but not the cool, social ice cream shop jobs. greg was shunted to the back room, cleaning the pantry. no one wanted to see a whole wheat cheerio if they didn’t have to. but that was okay with him… until he met sheila.
sheila was beautiful, original, stunning, unique- she was everything anyone ever wanted to be and more. and she was a honey nut cheerio. on the day sheila met greg, she was leaving the ice cream shop as he was taking out the trash. their eyes connected, and it was instant fire. love at first sight. they were both smitten, regardless of their flavors.
theirs was a whirlwind romance, and soon greg was ready to ask sheila’s hand in marriage. marriages between a honey nut and a whole wheat were unheard of, however. and yet, love made them blind.
sheila loved her father very much, and his approval meant everything to her. therefore, greg asked for his permission for sheila’s hand, saying: “mister sheila’s dad: i love your daughter more than anything else in the world. i would catch the moon for her, move mountains- please may i have her hand in marriage?”
sadly, mister sheila’s dad was not blind to the flavor divides as his daughter was. he laughed in greg’s face and denied his request to marry his daughter.
greg, weeping, dragged himself back to his humble home.
that night, he prayed to the cheerio god for the only thing he wished for in the world, saying: “general mills, general mills, please turn me into a honey nut cheerio so i can marry sheila. please oh please, it’s all i’ll ever need.”
the next morning, greg woke up and! a miracle! he was a frosted cheerio! nothing like this had ever happened in the history of cheerio-kind.
elated, greg took a long lunch break- he couldn’t wait any longer to ask mister sheila’s dad again! he ran to his house and, on one knee, proclaimed: “mister sheila’s dad, mister sheila’s dad! i love your daughter more than anything else in the world. i would catch the moon for her, move mountains- and i’m a frosted cheerio now! please may i have her hand in marriage?”
mister sheila’s dad, while impressed, still firmly denied greg. only a honey nut would be good enough for his little girl.
in shambles, greg went home. once again, he prayed to the cheerio god: “general mills, general mills, please turn me into a honey nut cheerio so i can marry sheila. please oh please, it’s all i’ll ever need. thank you for this first miracle, but frosted just isn’t enough.”
greg, missing the love of his life, mourning what could have been, cried himself to sleep.
the next morning, greg awoke to another miracle! he was a chocolate cheerio! he signed out of work early, for he was so eager to tell mister sheila’s dad the news and once again ask for sheila’s hand.
bursting through the front door, greg sung out: “mister sheila’s dad, mister sheila’s dad! i love your daughter more than anything else in the world. i would catch the moon for her, move mountains, harvest the stars- and i’m a CHOCOLATE cheerio now! please may i have her hand in marriage?”
once again, mister sheila’s dad denied him. only a honey nut marriage would be supported by that stone cold man.
greg was doubled over with tears on his walk home, and once in bed he sobbed out yet another prayer to general mills, cheerio god: “general mills, general mills, please turn me into a honey nut cheerio so i can marry sheila. please oh please, it’s all i’ll ever need. thank you for these two miracles, but frosted and chocolate just aren’t enough. i must be a honey nut in order to marry the love of my life, sheila”
he awoke! to yet another miracle! GREG. WAS. A. PLAIN. CHEERIO. this miracle was unlike the others, however. it was greater! for plain/honey nut cheerio marriages happened frequently! perhaps mister sheila’s dad would finally allow their love to become eternal!
greg took a half day off from work- he just couldn’t wait!
slamming open the door to the quaint home in honeyville, greg hollered: “MISTER SHEILA’S DAD! i love your daughter more than ANYTHING else in the world. i would catch the moon for her, move mountains, harvest the stars- and i’m a plaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiinnnnn cheerio now! please oh PLEASE may i have her hand in marriage?”
mister sheila’s dad was aghast- he had never seen such miracles performed by the great general mills.
and yet… this miracle was not enough. he regretfully informed greg that he would accept a honey nut and nothing else.
greg was crushed. he had experienced three miracles, great and sublime, and to no avail. he and his soulmate were still banned from marriage. greg dragged himself home, unable to stand. drowning in his own tears, he crawled all the way back to his bleak home.
choked with tears and gripped with pain, greg begged the cheerio god: “general mills, general mills, please turn me into a honey nut cheerio so i can marry sheila. she is all i will ever need. please.”
with no hope for joy and unending cries of agony, greg fell asleep.
he woke up. no… no it couldn’t be… not possible… unheard of… and yet…
GREG WAS A MOTHAFUCKIN HONEY NUT, YALL!!!!
bitch didn’t even go to work. love was all the currency he’d ever need. sprinting to the home of mister sheila’s dad, greg burst through the door yelling “I AM GREG. I AM A HONEY NUT CHEERIO. AND I WOULD LIKE TO MARRY YOUR DAUGHTER MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD!!!!”
elated that his daughter had found such a loving, devoted, honey nut cheerio, mister sheila’s dad gave the couple his blessing.
it was a spring wedding! vows were said, flowers arranged, kisses exchanged, and eternal bonds solidified! greg and sheila had never been happier. at the reception, greg worked up QUITE a sweat on the dance floor, and he got thirsty. he went to get in the line for milk, for that is every cheerio’s beverage of choice, but they were unfortunately out of milk. he then got in the line for water, as that was considered second best, but the water line was too long. irritated, greg decided to go to the punch line... but there was no punchline.
