First watch through of 911, play by play of my reactions.

Second episode in and Buck is already traumatized, but carla the nurse is a sweetheart and I love her!

Dude gets attacked by dogs and still has the composure to rizz up the pretty cop lol.

Look. I skim through episodes for Ran references. I skip through minutes worth of stuff if I'm confident Ran's not about to change outfit. But I am also only focused on Ran all the time. Which means I'm sorry animator who thought nobody would notice this single second frame of Ran missing her foot. I found it while trying to work out what shoes she was wearing. I was not expecting no feet at all but fair game you caught me out.

I've mentioned in other OPCE posts that the veracity of the 'true stories' told is difficult to pin down #Bellamy is playing journalist Eddy Gilbert‚ a very real person‚ and the details of his marriage to a Russian ballet dancer‚ Tamara‚ and the #opposition they faced from Russian authorities is certainly true; their relationship was well known enough to have inspired a film‚ 1953's #Never Let Me Go starring Clark Gable as Gilmore and Gene Tierney as Tamara (albeit with names changed and some highly dramatic additions #to their story). how much is true of the rest of this tv ep is anyone's guess but it's certainly among the more believable #and there's nothing too objectionable (accounting for cold war era attitudes‚ i mean)

i like the natsume dub, but i'm glad i watched it with subs first. for one thing, the japanese voice acting simply cannot be beat. for another, the dub translates nicknames into english - for instance, the little tatsumi that hatches from an egg, turning natsume into a teen dad, is called "eggy" in the dub instead of "tama" (which unless i'm mistaken is a shortened form of the japanese word for "egg") - which isn't a bad thing, but it does end up creating the possibility of a little misunderstanding once you get to taki's first episode. because if you couldn't hear the japanese, and you were accustomed to characters getting jokey english nicknames like eggy, and you heard that a character who hadn't talked for almost a year was named something that sounded phonetically like "talkie", would you assume that she had a completely different name in japanese that was a pun on the japanese word for "talk"? because that's probably what i would have assumed lol. but luckily i watched it in japanese with subs first, so. crisis averted!

#natsume VO: everybody talks‚ but for nearly an entire year‚ that 'talkie' girl tried not to. <-what it sounds like he's saying in the dub #you can practically hear the air quotes #especially because when it's her first episode you have no idea that she's about to become a recurring character #she could be another one-off guest character natsume meets once and maybe encounters a second time three seasons later #as opposed to his new best friend. you don't know that in her first episode #so given that this could be her only appearance...it wouldn't be that crazy for her to have some novelty name For The Lulz #like i probably would've watched the whole show thinking ah yes here is Natsume & his friends Tanuma Nishimura Kitamoto and Talkie #i would have come on here and made a total fool of myself spelling her name like that #people would have been like tf are you talking about dude #i'd be like you know‚ the girl with the spell circles?#and they would have been like DO YOU MEAN TAKI?????#i would have had to retire. never show my face here again.#natsume's book of friends #translation #names #puns #my posts #natsume yuujinchou #taki tooru #watch me write this whole thing about how the dub makes it possible for you to think her name is a pun when it obviously isn't #and then have a japanese speaker come on here like 'actually 'taki' IS a pun in japanese. the dub perfectly translated this joke'#that would be so funny. what if

13 not being particularly speechy is not bad writing. You may not like it. But it is not inherently bad. She’d rather pull teeth than declare her feelings in such a dramatic way because A) it’d involve talking about herself to actual other people and she has an image she’s Very intent on keeping up, and furthermore, B) she has No confidence in who she is, let alone what she’s feeling, and she’s also in denial Of some of those feelings she is having, so she sure isn’t gonna be declaring these things out loud.

You don’t have to like it, but it ain’t bad. It makes perfect sense for her character. If she started speechifying her opinions and feelings all the time it’d entirely contradict with the story being told and her characterisation. She gets toothy and loud when she’s losing control and Angry. In thirteen, her getting that far is generally a negative character moment for her. She’s passionate in her negativity first and foremost, to the point it’s kind of ugly (love That) to people she’s angry at.

In terms of people she likes, she is also shown to be able to Talk to them respectfully, it’s awkward as shit and she’d rather not, but instead of festering till it bursts out she actually does Try and talk it out like actual people do because she’s aware it’s the decent thing to do to people she actually cares about. Not saying she’s good at it, but this is far better in terms of social skills And character growth for the character in general than the doctor just being somebody who goes for the dramatics all the time?

Not every Doctor dramatically makes speeches all the time. She’s very much like Two, imo.

Now i’m sure if 13 got a chance to rip the master a new one for how he treated Yaz in tpotd she would have, but in that episode Yaz was ripping the master a new one for how he treated 13 because Yaz Was The Doctor, there was no need for 13 to do it.

i do not like =/= this is bad

#dw shit #i personally am sick to shit of the doctor yelling in peoples faces every second episode #but that doesn't actually mean it's bad writing either #i don't like it #(though i do think it's a bad look to a point having some white dude yell at everybody all the time)#but i am rlly done with so many 'why was 13 written so badly' only to list subjective reasons for it #you did not like it #there's a difference #i dislike how 12's era is more aimed at the audience than the charcters #but it's not Bad
