OMG STAR YOU WANT TO GET INTO GIDLE???

firstly, all the recs you’ve been given so far are so perfect. especially Oh My God like that was the first song of theirs I heard and it’s sooo good

secondly, I have to rec Allergy and Paradise. they’re from the same album as Queencard (I Feel) and Allergy is like a prequel to Queencard? like Allergy is about having insecurities and Queencard is about being confident (very rough analysis of these songs but their mvs go together). and I just love Paradise, it shows off all the girlies vocals so well. (also soft flex, I have all the I Feel albums and they’re so cool. especially Queen version which is a full deck of playing cards instead of a normal photobook, it’s amazing)

I would also rec all of the Heat album but especially Eyes Roll, I think it’s soo underrated ;w; and Tomboy is a fave, please give it a try!

there are so many crumbs of skz and gidle interactions but I cherish them all so dearly. it’s actually not fair because they’re supposed to be friends, but men and women can’t breathe in the same direction without dating rumours 😔 lol but there’s a clip of minnie crying after they won an award and chan literally goes ‘aww’ while i.n is like 😮, then jisung hyping soyeon up during one of her My Bag performances, and yuqi and changbin repping bunny idols and binnie gets flustered after he thinks she wants him to hold a carrot plushie for her, and finally i.n gifting miyeon flowers while doing the slickback challenge on her last day of mc-ing (THEY’RE SO CUUUTE)

also, I have to talk about their song Nxde, so mini essay ahead: on top of being a track that calls out the objectification and oversexualization of women, especially in the music industry, it’s also serves 2 very important purposes. the song, as well as many others by the group, is a love letter to ex-member soojin. the music video has tons of easter eggs for her, including her idol Marilyn Monroe and a character that bares her likeness in parts of the mv. gidle has not been allowed to really associate themselves with soojin since her departure, not because of the bullying allegations against her (they were ultimately disproved) but as punishment against her for the nature in which she terminated her contract with Cube. still, soyeon (our production queen) always finds a way to get around this and show appreciation to their friend.

soyeon also faced a lot of difficulty during the production of Nxde because of the title. the company didn’t want to release the song with that title because they deemed it inappropriate, and they said it wouldn’t get played. their reasoning was that with a title that controversial, it would be barred from charts and shows wouldn’t want to promote it. soyeon was not going to budge though. she had many inspirations for the title, but one was from a tag online. she noticed that things tagged nude on many social media platforms were full of pornographic content of underage girls.

she knew that if she released the song it would do very well and start trending because of fans, and she wanted to flood these tags with content related to the song. so when creeps looked up nude or nxde, the sites would be full of a song with women telling them to stop being perverted instead of what was occupying the tags before. (she’s talked about this in lives, and touches on it a bit in their interview with Jonathan from Diggle around the 21 minute mark).

I think soyeon is tremendously underrated, not just with her music but also her intentions. like, honestly, how can someone be so clever? she always finds a compromise with the company and gets her way in the end 💖 sorry for the longass message, I love her so much ;w;

First off I had no clue queencard kinda goes hand in hand with another music vid so I’m definitely going to check it out! I loved the queencard mv I think it’s so cute and empowering 🥹 SECOND I have seen my minuscule share of skz x gidle interactions but I don’t think I ever completely knew who they were (which in hindsight is a little ignorant, lol) I remember the recent even with Jeongin gifting the flowers ahhh that was so adorable !!

I also had no clue about the Soojin stuff- I’ll go so far as to say I’m not sure I even knew they had an ex-member (can you guys tell I haven’t brushed up on my gg knowledge 😅) but that’s so incredible that they find ways to include her regardless! That makes me so emotional and I wasn’t even around for the allegations or anything. Also the fucking phenomenal thought process of Soyeon titling their song that just to fend off creeps from the hashtag??? ICONNNNNN 👑 we love deterring weird fucking men I love that SO much

I’m so excited to get into them and listen to all your song recs and even more so with the knowledge of what everything means! I’m especially excited to see the little Soojin easter eggs in their music vids 👀

i have definitely mentioned that i don’t think francel likes his appearance very much — he especially wishes he had lighter-colored eyes like stephanivien and aurvael...

i personally want to think that chlodebaimt looked very different from francel BUT, although i have never datamined the necrose knight (i really should), a friend of mine took screenshots and his eyes at least look like francel's eyes

yes! but it depends on the character. for ramza... i either read shakespeare (for real — i have lifted quotes wholesale from hamlet and the tempest) and/or listen to "rather be" by clean bandit? seriously, that is my most strong ramza association... which is weird because the song and the game are like 20 years apart? or i listen to the FFT ost...

for francel i have a whole playlist, but most importantly i either go on twitter and look at wolchefant fanart or read bad wolchefant fanfic on ao3... (don’t judge me; it keeps the bitterness alive)

18. Is there anything you really wish you could do that you feel is outside your current ability? A concept that you wish you could pull off but are uncertain about?

UMMM... hmmmmmmm...

i dont know... i don’t really think any plots are outside of my current ability, but i admire my friends for being so consistent and on the ball with their dignified prose? i can be dignified too, but at some point i'll crash and start writing intensely silly tags

i would like to do more plots where francel is a badass for whatever reason, but that’s just wish fulfillment

francel is the easiest to write because he has the ugliest emotions

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you? XIV, hard mode: no Haurchefant/WoL.

LMAO THAT HARD MODE...

xiv's fandom has rarely "ruined" pairings for me, as in "i liked them before but i hate them now solely because of fandom"... that said, i think i kind of liked the idea of zephirin and aymeric as a rivalry ship, but i hate when fandom takes the "oMG ZEPH RAPED AYMERIC WHEN HE WAS HELD CAPTIVE" route...

i think this perception of zephirin as this horrible awful evil man comes from the fact that the information on the ward happened after the game was released, so... in the span of time between "zephirin killed haurchefant" and "wait actually zephirin is a virtuous man," people formed their opinions, you know?

but it's still really annoying, and to some degree the misconception persists...

i was also okay with guydelot and sanson at first, but i’m a little annoyed by them now, too... it’s not for any particular reason — i just think the fandom is annoying in the "THEY'RE SOOO MARRIED!! EVEN THE OTHER QUEST NPCS SAY THEY'RE LIKE A MARRIED COUPLE!! THEY’RE SO CANON!!!" way and i’m like Please Shut Up. that said, i guess it’s mostly jealousy because none of my pairings are ever canon, but whatever...

so i guess i'm going with zephirin/aymeric, guydelot/sanson... and oh btw like. urianger/moenbryda to a degree? i remember when the wind-up moenbryda item came out and the english item description was like "you don't want to know what urianger did to this" or something like that, like, i just took it as — like urianger probably dressed it up in a little maid outfit and had it serve him tea or something equally otaku-like?

LAUGHS WELL I GUESS MY USUAL TIRADE: i don't think of haurchefant as the perfect cinnamon roll angel and actually he annoys me a little...

my friend just finished running coerthas quests on her balmung alt and like... even she commented on how brusque and condescending he seems to francel? and she has no reason to be tainted by my perception of him, it's just... it’s just that he is brusque and condescending.

back when i liked haurchefant/francel, i told myself that it was just how he acted in the heat of the moment and i was sure he was gentler later... but now we’ve seen so much of haurchefant that from the way he treats francel it really feels more to me like francel was just a friend of convenience. i don’t know. i’m bitter. maybe i’m just bitter because it’s easier to cope that way.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

um... well, i think everyone in the ffxiv fandom also agrees that the fandom is annoying...

something i sometimes worry about, but which is not exclusive to ffxiv, is like... people who rp wind up with such a different impression of things than people who just play the game?

i'm not judging either side on this but... i have rp friends, and i observe the rp community on tumblr/balmung, and i also have friends that are just gamers? and you know, like. sometimes rpers get carried away and invent all these narratives, like i know some tumblr rpers had a bunch of "plots" where a murder mystery happened in ishgard and it was all full of like noble OCs and intrigue or something?

but my gamer friends will sometimes be like, “ishgard is so boring.” so they... see it differently? you wind up viewing the game differently based on what you do in it.

there's also the divide between the english version of the game and the rest of the world, which i bitch about a lot but

just as an example, in english the nobles of ishgard are kind of broadly characterized as being unintelligent and shallow and foppish, whereas the other versions of the game really take a much more neutral approach?

or well i can really only speak for the japanese, but in general the german and french versions of the game are loyal to the japanese, however, 2.0 content was often based on the english...

so, for example, 2.0 content was EN->FR, but ever since 3.0 most of the patches have been JP->EN/DE/FR

however, the EN version continues to make changes, whereas DE and FR don't really change many things!

so i worry a lot about the different perceptions people have of the game, and what that means, like, when i write fanfic...

does my interpretation of coerthas align with other peoples' interpretations of coerthas? probably not. that’s something that’s deeply distressing, as a writer and as someone who prefers to have control, but i don’t know...

This is just me ranting about JD from heathers (mostly how some people talk about the character, so spoilers for the end of heathers) I just want to get this off my mind. (I also feel like people talk about this A LOT so this is probably super tired discourse if you are apart of the fandom)

So forewarning, I’m like not even skin deep in the heathers fandom, like i really enjoy the show. But I’m not really involved in the fandom so idk how well this actually reflects the community as a whole (and I think its a sizable minority at least) this isnt supposed to be like a call out either. I also haven’t seen the movie so the movie perspective might be a bit different.

but like I listen to the songs on youtube sometimes, like the lyric ones, right. So I practically never look at the comments. But on the r a r e occasion I do I nearly instantly regret it. Because pretty much everytime I see like a comment or two about how sad JD’s death was and I’m like...

HE WAS GOING TO BLOW UP THE FUCKING SCHOOL AND HE DECIDES HEY MAYBE THIS IS A BAD DECISION AND I’LL SACRIFICE MYSELF SO THE E N T I R E SCHOOL DOESNT EXPLODE WITH EVERYONE IN IT???

like his death isnt that sad, bc no oNE WOULD HAVE TO DIE IF HE DIDN’T MAKE THE FUCKING BOMBS IN THE F I R S T PLACE????

Like I don’t think him realizing he fucked up and making that sacrifice is redeemable enough. Because 1, he was already suicidal the only things he ever cared about in the show was Veronica and 7/11 (and the 7/11 thing was like before he and veronica got together and is only mentioned in Freeze Your Brain) and maybe his mom who was long gone before the start of the show.

The point I’m trying to make is that him sacrificing himself was probably not a “huge” sacrifice for himself. at the end of the show, Veronica had broken up with him, and then he thought Veronica was already dead, like I would be more shocked than not if his character was planning to stay in the school for the explosion after Veronica faked her suicide. Like from a character motivation perspective he didn’t really have anything to live for. Like could you imagine what JD would have done if everything went according to his plan? Because I can’t, like he has no purpose because he does not care about anything else. He let Heather Chandler die (or straight up killed depending how you look at it) bc she had wronged Veronica and his fucked up sense of justice; he killed Kurt and Ram for the exact same reasons.

IF Veronica was gone, he had nothing to live for. In Meant to be Yours, his reasoning for blowing up the school was that the only possible reason that Veronica had broken up with him was because the other students had “messed up (her) mind, they made (her) blind” so he was going to kill them for “revenge”. JD is can’t stand to think that maybe Veronica broke up with him was because his self-righteous “vigilantism” because he was so much better and smarter than everyone else and he is above them and blah blah blah. (this basically fits into one of the show’s main themes of, how everyone thinks they’re better than everyone else when they’re in hs and that everyone else is just stupid. And that you, specifically are the smart and self aware one that sees everything how it is. this video touches on it)

He had also already suffered a gunshot wound, he might have thought he would have died anyways.

However, I understand that perhaps the sadness associated with his character is could come from the fact that if his childhood had been more normal that he could of become like not psychotic, and instead like a genuinely good person? In which case I don’t exactly disagree.

Yet, I’m under the impression that a lot of the “sadness” about JD’s death has to do with people shipping him with Veronica and that he died to “Save her” (but ya know she wouldnt need saving if he hadnt been crazy in the first place) Now, I don’t have a huge problem with people “shipping” the two, if people are very aware the relationship was abusive and like the dynamic from a storytelling perspective (kinda like how people like fucked up characters, bc they’re interesting) As long as their relationship isnt’ romanticized. But I feel like there are some people that don’t quite get that?? idk. But, if you’re sadness about it from the “romantic” perspective is similar to the previous paragraph where the tragedy was in that they could have had a normal relationship that was sweet if not for etc- thats fine too.

Again, if you like the character of JD that is fine too. JD is a well written and complex character. And I understand that people find a character that is completely fucked up more interesting than a typical character and thats fine, as long as you recognize that they’re fucked up right.

I also get that those comments were made probably by like some 13-15 year olds that were just having fun talking abouta thing they like and they probably have less experience of “critical analysis” in english class, and they just have a different perspective. I also get that this whole thing is SUPER PETTY, like lmao this shit is beyond first world problems really. This post is alsoa mess, like im well aware. I just needed to vent.

also like I am up for debate and discussion over this, It just angers me I guess when I see an over simplified comment saying “nooo dont remind of jds death its sooo sad” or something and im just like no, I celebrate everytime. Veronica might say “say hi to god” but im like “lmao have fun rottting in hell you pyschotic lampshade”
