Kehlsteinhaus and views from above
Forgot to mention that the bus ride to the entry point (tunnel / elevator) was crazy, very steep and lots of hairpin curves! If you get motion-sick, hiking is probably the better option.

Kein Overtourism! Besser ist das. Das Kehlsteinhaus wurde für den Führer gebaut.

The Kehlsteinhaus (known in English as the Eagle's Nest) is a Nazi-constructed building erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop that rises above Obersalzberg near the southeast German town of Berchtesgaden. It was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings. Today, it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and tourist site. 6, 9, 13, 29, 31, 48, 50?
6) Do you think astral travel works like fast travel and you can't astral travel when enemies are nearby? If you could though, where would you go?
Maybe. This question is something I need to get back to....
9) What movie would you love to sneak onto the set of or be a background character in?
The Sound of Music. My favorite movie and the hills really are alive in Salzburg. Also, I would tell the director that if the Von Trapps in the movie actually left Austria the way they were going, they would run straight into the Kehlsteinhaus AKA the Eagle's Nest.
13) If you could live in a painting, which painting would it be?
That Girl with a Pearl Earring painting. She just looks so serene wearing that pearl earring.
29) Tell us something you've always wanted to but never get asked?
I would love to go on a road trip with a friend or two. People make plans in front of me a lot to do stuff like that, but they never ask me to join. 😥 Which is extremely rude. Especially when I'm literally right there.
31) Imagine yourself being chased by a killer rabbit with a vicious streak a mile wide. The holy hand grenade is not, sadly, on hand. What do you grab to defend yourself?
Hermann Fegelein. His legendary antics would save me! Also, he would be drunk, the rabbit would kill him, and he wouldn't even notice.
48) Favourite type of tape?
Scotch. So sexy.
50) If you were a dinosaur, what dinosaur would you be?
A brontosaurus. I just like the word.

CLIMB EV'RY MOUNTAIN
On the way out of Munich I was successful in convincing my comrades to visit the BMW museum. I mainly wanted to see if there was anything on Delores in there and maybe if I could buy the toy version of her. The museum was in a cool building and comprehensively covered all BMW motors from motorbikes to jet engines. I didn't really care about any of the motors and engines on the walls so I speed walked through it in the fashion that Tom races through museums. There were a few models baring some resemblance to dolly but her specific models wasn't in there so I was slightly disappointed.
The drive to Salzburg wasn't far and we found we arrived at The Muffin, our accom, with plenty of time in the day. We were pointed in the direction of a canal nearby where locals hangout and take dips in the fresh mountain water. There was quite a crew down there and while a little random, as the spot was seemingly in between a few houses, the mountains in the background and crisp water made for a gorgeous little swim spot. We'd decided to go on a heath kick (that comprised of eating any food except Bavarian cuisine) for a few days so we went for very lovely Japanese in the evening.

We were up early the next day as we'd planned to check out Berghoff & Kehlsteinhaus by car and then find a walk in the area. Berghoff has long been nothing but a few foundation and drain-looking concrete blocks, but the view from there was delightful and it was clear why the spot was chosen for the chalet that was described as "bright and airy" by British Homes & Gardens in 1938. By the time we arrived at the base of Kehlstein it was chockers. We hadn't any idea of how to get up the mountain so we ambitiously drove past the long queues of people and buses and tried to find a way up ourselves. After a crisscrossing around the base for a while we figured the only way up was via the bespoke Kehlstein bus. Again the queues were atrociously long and the price to get up to the teahouse was upwards of 30 euro each. We decided agaisnt bothering with it and drove up a raod that looked like it was going up the same mountain but with no signs suggesting so. It had a tollbooth which was only 5 euros so we proceeded through here to see where it would take us, hoping to grab a nice view of the surrounds from a reasonable height. Driving along the snakey roads we noticed a dirtroad/wide footpath jutting out in the direction of the tea house. Rental car withholding, we snuck up the dirtroad surreptitiously while expecting it to end at every turn, but found its conclusion to be far futher than we bargened for. finally getting to a bollard as the road was getting mightily steep, we hopped out and found ourselves almost half way up the desired mountain, enough for a sturdy yet achievable walk to the summit (noting it was bloody hot). The track was steeper than the road and as the sweat trickled the chat dwindled. We reached the top bus stop from where people can either walk the last section to the tea house or get the golden walled elevator built into the mountain. Starved and parched we walked the last section and triumphantly reached the teahouse that has now been turned into a restaurant, offering... Bavarian cuisine.

A hard earn thirst needs a kind of warm beer and meatloaf
In the evening we waltz into town to check out Hohensalzburg Fortress, a medieval fortress that broods over the entire town of Salzburg and also one of the key filming locations of The Sound of Music. Tom had been raving about a storm that was due to arrive in the early evening, so we borrowed umbrellas, each a different bright colour, from the accommodation in preparation. The storm seemed to linger in the distance while we were atop the fortress which made for a thrilling spectacle from the 11th century structure. From here we could see down into a large outdoor stage and hundreds of full seats in a town square. This was a performance of Jedermann, a play created in Austria in 1911 and first performed here in 1920, the centrepiece of the annual Salzburg Festival. We descended into the town and visited a few areas we hadn't been, had some Guinness at and Irish pub and called stumps to try and avoid getting too wet on the way home. The rain did finally arrive late in the night but this didn't prevent the three of us looking like the camp trio from another famous musical all evening.
