“I never thought I would ever see you here”
Eyesight blurry from crying and missing your glasses due to dropping them somewhere along the path you ran down, you slowly lift your head up to see someone you have grown fond of.
“Neither did I” you reply as you wipe your cheek on your sleeve. You can tell he was worried about you by the tone of his voice. It was the complete opposite from his usual playful demeanor. It was soft—deep.
“May I join you?” He asks while taking off his coat. “Your highness, I cannot-“ you’re cut off by the heavy garment being draped over you and the warmth radiating off of it. “You must and you will.”
Voice deep and filled with concern and a tinge of seriousness, he could tell you that you need—needed— his company and that leaving you alone could end up in something disastrous happening and the last thing he ever wanted was for anything to happen to you. Especially you.
As he takes a seat right beside you on the fountain bench, you’re shocked and taken aback by the seriousness in his tone but also knew he knew you better than anyone else. Hell, even better than yourself. And you knew that if left alone, you would do something brash towards the man you foolishly let play you like a fiddle so you were grateful for his concern.
“Your highness-“
“Kyojuro”
“P-pardon?”
“Call me Kyojuro.”
You pause and slowly turn to him, face flushed and the moonlight shining its beautiful rays softly across your face. You’re trying your best but your best is not enough when it comes to concealing how you were feeling. He can see everything now, every smile line, every breath you take and every goosebump that slowly started to decorate your skin. He got to see first hand what his presence alone does to you.
“I am here for you. Please know that.” Spoken as if he was a whisper in the wind, making your heart flutter. Your body suddenly without warning moved forward and with no effort at all, your lips pressed onto his. It was swift and almost too easy, as though it was almost meant to happen this way. As if he planned it and now that the moment has now passed and your lips are now apart, you both stare at each other.
The air was thick and the sounds of your hearts beating simultaneously filled your eardrums. You immediately felt a tinge of guilt and fear course through you as you realize what you have done and before you can speak, he stops you. Not with his hands but with his eyes alone he stops you from whatever you thought you were going to do. Was he angry? Upset? Shocked? Your mind was filled with questions but as if reading your mind, he stopped you.
Slowly, he reaches to and places his hand on top of yours. It was sudden but it wasn’t unwanted and with that and him matching your breathing, he smiled. The silence coupled with his almost angelic smile was the confirmation you needed. He glances between your eyes and your lips, as if asking to kiss you again and you lean in an inch more and nodded “yes”. A minute passes before he finally does and it’s much more needy than before and you wished it to continue forever. The eagerness, the tenderness—all of it. You didn’t want this to end.
At the end of the night, sky covered in stars, you had your heart broken and repaired. And even though it was a wonderfully painful event to go through, it was nothing short but a story you will be telling your children in the years to come.
