 Kode 0 (by Ken Okunaya).
Before we talk about the car, we first have to talk about the man behind the car: Ken Okuyama. If that name sounds familiar, Okuyma is a career automotive design pro who spent much of his career at Pininfarina. He's credited in helping create vehicles like the original Acura NSX, Ferrari 599 GTB, Ferrari Enzo, Maserati Birdcage 75th Concept, and even the fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. Yes, that Camaro. But in 2006, Ken Okuyama left Pininfarina. And after a quick stint starting his own eyewear collection (dubbed Ken Okuyama Eyes collection), he created his first self-titled concept car: the K.O 7 Spider. He debuted the slinky, open-top two-seater in Geneva in 2008, kickstarting a lineage of impressive concepts and one-offs, including the one pictured here.
The fixed-roof successor to the equally stunning Kode 57 Enji uses "dream car proportions" from classics like the the Lancia Stratos Zero in its design. Okuyama implemented a "one motion" technique to create the Kode0's svelte profile. But aggressive details like the edgy front splitter, sharp LED headlights, triangular-shaped exhaust, and 21-inch wheels embody a stark contrast to the otherwise streamlined silhouette.
Hiding under that sleek contour is a 6.5-liter V12 good for 690 horsepower (515 kilowatts) and 507 pound-feet (690 Newton-meters) of torque. With it, the Kode0 sprints to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in just 2.9 seconds. The Kode 0 also weighs in at just 3,417 pounds (1,550 kilograms), making it much lighter than the vehicle on which it's based (4,085 pounds / 1,852 kilograms).

AZB is taking part in this amazing exhibition initiated by Zoetrope Athens, with 5 zines from its archive: Blurring The Raster | Photobooks In Riso
Exhibition and Talks
Riso printing has become a popular choice for independent publishers, artists, and designers around the world. The technique is characterised by its imperfections, imprecision, and unpredictability, that is linked to the origin and the idiosyncratic function of the machine. Each riso print is thus unique, with shifts, smudges or odditie. Unlike traditional printing techniques, risography doesn't reproduce an image exactly but rather transcribes it differently. By using slightly or totally different colors, it creates alternative versions of the image, opening up immense possibilities to rethink the purpose of the printed image and its context.
Risography originated in Japan in the 1940s. It is a direct tone printing system that uses a stencil printer to create images with bright, fluorescent colors and textured rendering. The technique is eco-friendly, using vegetable oil-based inks that dry slowly by absorption into uncoated paper. Each ink uses its own drum, which is fed in and out of the machine as required, making it a low-cost method of producing large quantities of work using a limited number of colors.
The exhibition ‘Blurring The Raster | Photobooks In Riso’ presents 44 photobooks and zines from Greece and abroad, framed by a series of parallel talks, offering a glimpse into the diverse and creative possibilities and particularities of risograph printing while questioning the conventional notion and experience of the printed image.
Initiated by Zoetrope Athens in collaboration with Alice Laurichesse, Keda*Press, Dolce, Athens Zine Bibliotheque, Sleep On It Press, RNVP and Quintal Atelier from Paris, the library Herbarium Riso in Berlin and the nomadic collection of Zines of the Zone.
30.03.23 at 18:00 : Exhibition Opening 31.03.23 at 18:00 : Parallel talks, a discussion around Risography in Photobooks by Alice Laurichesse, Keda*Press, Dolce and Zines of the Zone.

the Maserati Birdcage revisited by Ken Okuyama
A very fast birdcage Ken Okuyama: a name obviously well known to enthusiasts, the designer who made himself famous for the Ferrari Enzo, which became a mythical prancing horse car but which, in its time, had created a stir as the style was so out of step with the previous supercars (especially the F50!). The Japanese designer presented at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este the…

Side 95 Vol. 1: Mobile Suit Gundam G40 (Short)
With the start of a new focused blog, we're taking our time to look at some mecha series. Today's look is at Gundam G40, a short released to commemorate Gundam's 40th anniversary.
Tumblr media
It focuses on reimagining the original Mobile Suit Gundam series in an abridged form while also taking some new liberties with the appearance of Kamaria Ray in place of Tem Ray as the creator of this particular version of the RX-78-2. She is the only new voiced aspect of the short, being voiced by veteran actress Toa Yukinari.
The G40 itself is also the highlight of the short, showing off its sleek and industrial design. It's nothing short of eye candy given how the movement and form factor resembles that of a car or Shinkansen—to which Ken Okuyama has designed several. It's certainly the design that one would imagine the original RX-78-2 when put into a more modern take.
The short then recreates the first few episodes (albeit different to a degree) of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, with Amuro Ray piloting the Gundam and fighting against the Zaku IIs and, eventually, Char Aznable. It's interesting to note that the short uses archival footage from the original series for its dialogue, including Amuro and Char's lines from the show.
From there we're given a montage recreating more iconic shots or action from the show's run, including the famous Last Shooting pose from the very end of Mobile Suit Gundam—all to the tune of EXILE TRIBE's TO THE SKY and SHOW YOU THE WAY.
Tumblr media
All in all, for an anniversary short it was magnificent. We would strongly recommend watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, the recap movies from the 80s, or read Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin if you would like.
As for the G40 High Grade kit? Well, you better hope you're lucky to find one under $40 dollars like some retailers have it at. After all, it was a limited time kit built for an anniversary.
But that concludes today's first look at a mecha series. Tune in another time as we review...

Ferrari Enzo
From the early days campaigning Alfa Romeo’s Grand Prix titans to the final game-changing supercar launched shortly before his death, Enzo Ferrari was committed throughout his life to creating world-beating machines. Whether sitting at the pinnacle of motorsport or within the pages of magazine centrefolds, cars that wore the Prancing Horse badge represented the very cutting edge of technology, style, and performance. Fitting, then, that the car built in his honour—the Ferrari Enzo—would exemplify everything that had seen the Maranello marque grow from a boutique producer of sports racers to one of the most coveted and desirable badges in automotive history.Like the great halo models that came before, the Enzo was created to push the boundaries of road car performance, utilising technology derived from the top-tier of motorsport and otherworldly styling from long-term design partner Pininfarina. Constructed from lightweight carbon fibre and aluminium, the Enzo’s sophisticated chassis was clothed in composite bodywork styled by the carrozzeria’s Ken Okuyama and shaped by wind-tunnel testing. Influenced by Ferrari’s leading grand prix cars, the rakish nose struck a tone carried over to the rest of the coachwork, with subtle ground-effect aerodynamics and a small active spoiler in place of the F50’s outrageous rear wing.At the Enzo’s heart lay an all-new, mid-mounted, 6.0-litre V-12 engine that produced a staggering 651 horsepower— greater than the output of any of its rivals. But it wasn’t just the headline power figure that impressed, but how it was delivered, with a perfect combination of low-end torque; fierce acceleration with each shift of the paddles; and an addictive howl as the needle approached the 8,200 rpm redline. Like its top-of-the-range predecessors, the Enzo set a new benchmark for performance and design, and due to a production run that numbered just 399 examples, has since become one of the most significant collector cars of the early 21st Century.

KODE0
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
