What makes Jung Hwan so special is that he is very soft and warm-hearted, but doesn't really take enough credit for it.
This is highlighted in many scenes especially the one where he and his brother have heart-to-heart talk, and it is shown that all the childhood dreams of Jung Hwan (a football player, a basketball player and even a fighter pilot) were actually the wishes of his brother who couldn't fulfill them.
It tore my heart into pieces and my eyes were filled with tears, because the people who are silently kind and loving to others without being recognized are truly special.
No matter how many times I rewatch this show, my love for every character keeps only increasing. And Kim Jung Hwan will always always be cherished by me ♥️.

Parasyte: The Grey
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Parasyte: The Grey (2024, South Korea)
Director: Yeon Sang Ho
Writers: Yeon Sang Ho & Ryu Yong Jae (based on the manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki)
Mini-review:
I enjoyed this way more than I expected. I was a pretty big fan of the anime that aired a decade ago, so I was worried about this adaptation. But that wasn't necessary: instead of making a simple live-action remake, they tried to approach the story from a different point of view, making sure it could coexist in the original manga's universe (as shown by the very last scene). That being said, this one doesn't delve too much into its themes, opting instead to focus on the horror and action elements. And damn, it does deliver. The action scenes make great use of the parasytes' "tentacles", and they're shot with some stunning camerawork. Yeon Sang Ho's directing fires on all cylinders, more than making up for the pretty mediocre CGI. It also helps that the cast does fantastic job. So yeah, Parasyte: The Grey might not be as deep as it could, but if you're in the mood for a thrilling horror-action spectacle, then you should give it a try.

EVERYONE PLEASE PLEASE WATCH PALE MOON ITS AMAZING AND CONTAINS SO MUCH DEPTH AND I NEED PEOPLE TO SCREAM ABOUT IT WITH BUT NO ONE ON TUMBLR IS TALKING ABOUT IT
Tumblr media
Please please please please please. I don't want to have to resort to MDL comments or the discussion on Viki to have these conversations.
It's currently on Viki with subtitles in a dozen languages, and the first two episodes are available without a subscription. There are 10 one hour long episodes total.
My spoiler free pitch from my initial impression, and which held to the end:
It's not a BL, doesn't slot neatly into any one genre, and doesn't feel quite like any other kdrama I've seen. But if you enjoy fascinating middle-aged women, and an often melancholy, elliptical, sometimes film-like approach, I highly recommend it to you. Our protagonist is complex and subtle, and played by an actress with an incredible presence, but everyone else around her is also fascinating and real in their own right, and I'm so curious to see the directions all these relationships develop.
Ask me any questions you have about it! I just didn't want to give too much away here because I really enjoyed discovering it as I went along.

Mr Queen fic masterlist
Noticing an influx of comments on my Mr. Queen fics now that it’s on Netflix, so here gentle readers is a masterlist. I spent the better part of a year writing these stories, most of which are novel-length!
Are you a cheolbong truther, and wish the show would have committed to the wacky queer love story of our dreams? Or does your heart beat for the silenced Kim Soyong, who got pushed out of her own narrative? I’m here to fulfill all your fix-it needs! ❤
Tumblr media
Mrs. Queen
Summary: She has always been good at hide and seek. A retelling of Mr. Queen from Kim Soyong's point of view.
This was my first MQ retelling where Soyong and Bong-hwan are both awake and bickering inside their mind, wrestling for control. Soyong/Cheoljong endgame; Bong-hwan is mostly around to matchmake and cause trouble like the gremlin he is.
Tumblr media
And I, and Silence
Summary: Jang Bong-hwan can feel his mind disintegrating, and he is looking for a way back to Seoul. Suddenly Kim Soyong is back. And, as it turns out, she is already married.
The last thing Kim Soyong remembers is jumping into the lake. Now she’s back mid-story and forced to fend for herself without any memory of what has happened in the past few months. Lots of angsty pining, gratuitous Emily Dickinson references, and the birth of my most beloved crackship ByeongJin (Jo Hwa-jin/Kim Byeong-in).
Tumblr media
The Raw Ingredients
Summary: After a miserable year in Seoul, Bong-hwan finds a way back to Joseon. When she returns everything is very different from how she left it.
We’ve got magical trans girl Bong-hwan returning to Joseon, only this time in the body of a lowly palace maid. How ever will she get to her king? Well, with a little help of cunning minister Kim Soyong, of course.
Tumblr media
Patchwork
Summary: Sobong returns to her king.
A ficlet with the same basic premise as The Raw Ingredients but much shorter.
Tumblr media
The White Grass
Summary: Kim Soyong discovers the hard way that her clan would do anything to ensure that the next royal heir comes from the Kim bloodline, no matter who they have to hurt to do it. To survive in the palace she makes a deal with the king. AU where Jang Bong-hwan never came to Joseon. This one has some dark and gritty dubcon sex! It’s also got a Kim Soyong who girlbosses, gaslights, and gatekeeps her way to power in a patriarchal government, and accidentally falls in love with her husband along the way.
Tumblr media
Whatever Souls Are Made Of
Summary: Kim Soyong and Jang Bong-hwan are the same soul reincarnated. On the same night, 170 years apart, they both drown. That’s when things get weird.
In this story Sobong is just one (1) person, but with two sets of memories from two points in time. There’s some multiverse theory, library sex, and a journey of self-discovery for our dear genderfluid queen! This is my personal favorite of the bunch.

I just think that Taek wasn't as dumb irl as he appeared to be. And that Junghwan was as naive as he appeared to be.

My heart goes out to all the second leads in every K-drama I see, who are perfect and almost always liked by everyone, but end up heartbroken and have to live with the pain.
Sometimes, the circumstances to move on becomes even complicated when the persons concerned have a close-knit relationship besides the romantic angle.
One such classic example was the Kim Jung Hwan - Sung Deok Sun - Choi Taek. In my opinion, the three of them were lovely people in their own ways and there is not even a competition between the two guys, or who deserves her. I believe (and quote Jung Hwan) that the timing and the hesitation of our shy boy Jung Hwan led to Choi Taek getting ahead of him. And at that time, Deok Sun also developed feelings for Taek.
But that does not justify or compensate for the pain Jung Hwan went through (probably goes through) because he loved her. Always. As long as he could remember. And the worst part is, he probably loves and cherishes Taek even more. Which is why the heartbreak is painful.
It would take a long time for him to move on because he has to watch his friends being happy with their lives whilst hiding the pain inside him Of course, he is happy for them. I felt, in a way, the "confession/proposal" he did to Deok Sun in front of their friends was at least a way to provide some respite for his pain. I believe Deok Sun understood that he was telling the truth.
I hope Jung Hwan finds his own happiness, peace and lots of love in his life ♥️😊💕💘.
