Locations in Sapporo

things in my personal life has calmed down somewhat for the time being so I figured I'd write up an easy lore post that I completely forgot I could make so here we are

I wanted to list some common locations found in Sapporo as featured in Vocal Android! I haven't actually talked about the setting too much and while I'm kinda bad at designing locations, I figured I could at least talk about them a little

But, yeah, I'll do my best to explain, so some lore under the cut?

Crypton Laboratories HQ/Crypton Towers: The place where the CVs live and where Meiko and Kaito work. A huge white, gray, and cyan building shaped like a C if you look at it from above, it's home to Crypton's various research labs. The building has floors entirely dedicated to be Miku, the twins and Luka's living spaces, and they each have their own color-coded rooms and living areas. There's a recording and dance studio in the building for the CVs to do their idol work and music playing, as well as a virtual reality training room. There's also the CVs' very own superhero base of sorts, which Gumi helped design, and allows the crew to oversee the city in case danger makes itself known (it's also a convenient place to hang out and take a nap). There's also a sizeable garage below the building, where Rin keeps the road roller.

Kenmochi Academy High School: Miku, Rin and Len's school. A large, clean campus made of three V-shaped buildings with their points pointing towards each other and hexagon-shaped windows. A pretty high-bar school with a lot of recent technology, it's one of the more popular and well-known high schools in town (and thus, an excellent candidate for Meiko's goal of having the CVs interact with humans their age). It is headed by Principal Sasaki. (Current Student List: Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Kobayashi Matcha, Masaoka Azuki, Yumemi Nemu, Hibiki Lui, Akira Kano/Arsloid, Otomachi Una, Sato Sasara, Suzuki Tsudumi, Kokone Aime, Kizuna Akari, Futaba Minato, Hoshino Ichika, Tenma Saki, Hinomori Shiho, Mochizuki Honami, Koharu Rikka (formerly), Suzune Ring)

Ichikawa Academy High School: Gumi's school, a high school on the eastern side of the city. It's a more "normal" high school, less flashy than Kenmochi and looking more typical, but still has a few good programs to its name, including its science program (which Gumi tries to participate in). (Current Student List: Megumi "Gumi" Nakashima, Kotonoha Akane and Aoi, Tohoku Zunko, Gahata Meiji, Kamishiro Rui, Kusanagi Nene, Tenma Tsukasa, AiSuu, Tsuina-chan)

Utahako Elementary School: The local elementary school a block or two away from Kenmochi. It's a modest little elementary school, having been newly refurbished from an older building. Many of the students that go there end up graduating to Kenmochi later. Kiyoteru teaches here. (Current Student List: Kaai Yuki, Oliver Twitchell, Rana, Macne Petit, Tohoku Kiritan, Otomachi Unagi, Ryuuto Nakashima)

The Macne Cafe: A fresh-looking little internet cafe that sits in the town plaza and is the CVs' favorite hangout spot. Established by the Macne Family, it's become slowly but surely known around town for its delicious green apple cheesecake and desserts. Nana has been trying various ways to spread their customer base further.

The V5: A swanky nightclub and bar that is also in the plaza, run by four friends: Amy, Chris, Kaori and Ken. Many of the adult characters come there to drink and chat a bit.

UTAU Studios: A record label company and radio studio stationed in the industry hub of town, notable for its large staff and loooong list of talents. The studio runs a daily radio broadcast that's fairly popular, and their top talent is Namine Ritsu (or it was, anyway).

Sapporo University: The local college. A bit of an older building since it's been there basically forever compared to a lot of the rest of futuristic city. Has a small, colorful dormitory community next to it where students stay. (Current Student List: Galaco, Po-uta, Tsurumaki Maki, Shirosaki Yuudai; Utatane Piko isn't a student but he lives there)

Kamukura Shrine: A humble shrine that's only a little ways away from the beach, and is where most of the cast goes for holiday celebrations (such as New Years). It's headed by Kigashima Sourin and his protégés, Kurono Takehiro, Wakamatsu Akashi, Aoyama Ryuusei and Shirakami Koutarou, who are training to be proper priests. They also have their shrine maiden, a fussy teenage girl named Lumi who claims to be a jellyfish kami from the sea. Her antics tend to bring a lot of visitors.

SEKAI Auditorium: A venue a few blocks away from Crypton HQ and the main place where Miku and friends perform locally. Very spacious and known to host tons of acts, including smaller ones like local bands, singers and theater shows. Also functions as a sort of convention center at times. However, it's tendency to get raided by supervillains (mostly in pursuit of Miku and co.) has given it a bit of a weird reputation.

The Nebula: A recently-established nightclub in the plaza run by American DJ CYBER DIVA (and her partner CYBER SONGMAN), who is also the headlining act of the place. Used to have a bit of a rivalry with Miku, but they're both over it. Gets a lot of younger customers than the ones at the V5.

Dr. Momone's House: A modern house in a quiet neighborhood next to the industrial part of town where Dr. Momone, Momo and Defoko live. Their neighbors consist of Yufu (who lives down the lane), Eru (who lives at the far end of the lane), Tsukishiro Hakupo and his servant bot Kunishiki (who live next door) and Sensei.

Gumi's Apartment: Gumi, Gakupo and Ryuuto's small apartment in a building not too far from Crypton HQ. Not the nicest apartment that ever was, but it's homey.

Gin no Hana: A old-fashioned restaurant that has reasonable business and is popular due to the comfy atmosphere. Managed by Ginsaki and his wife, Koharu.

The Old Soul Theater: An old theater in town that's mainly still in the city for the sake of preservation, but still has small plays and acts now and again. Has been turned into an acting school of sorts by Miriam Stocks, a theater connoisseur.

Ruko's candy shop: A hole-in-the-wall shop in an alleyway managed by Yokune Ruko, where they sell candy, snacks and cheap cups of drip coffee. Totally not shady in the slightest. Is almost constantly out of coffee-flavored hard candy because Ruko keeps eating it.

Meiko's apartment: Meiko's home, a simple apartment in a simple complex where she crashes after a long day at the lab. The CVs have never been to it.

While I'm glad to have any expansion onto Tai's adventures, the more recent entries have really forced him towards the epilogue. And while most characters have their fates kinda shoehorned in (i.e.- oh, Matt's studying to become an astronaut! *but it's not plot relevant*), Tai's road to diplomant-hood is more gradual and natural.

Add an extra installment or two and it will make perfect sense. Compare to pre-tri where it came out of nowhere. Also, I've read the epilogue was the intended ending for quite some time. They were just unwilling to drop it and only as of Kizuna pushed Tai properly onto that path.

All of this doesn't mean I have to like it, however. Because I still hate it. Tai needs bare minimum the freedom to run around and scrape his knees, or he's not Tai. And I'm getting close to doing one of these-

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 2

Day 2- Blue Lightning, Lighdramon (episode 11)

sub prompt a) Making friends is hard, but Daisuke and V-mon formed strong bonds through their road. Let’s talk about some of them!

Friendships are important for children, and I love how 02 work in a non-traditional way: Its development is through relationships instead. Which means, a character’s development in 02 is shown by how they interact with the other characters through the story.

With this, Daisuke’s changes come from how he stopped being wary around those kids… And how he became friends with them in the end, to the point in Kizuna he’s going to pick Iori at school with Takeru so they can discuss about his idea of going on a trip with everyone to study ramen (which we know he could’ve done that alone with V-mon, but nope, he wanted to invite EVERYONE if possible!)

First things first, I’m sorry to disagree with Kiuchi Reiko (who voiced Daisuke in 02 and post media until Kizuna) and say the first person Daisuke considered his equal was Inoue Miyako. If you watch 02-or-even-Kizuna carefully you can see how both Daisuke and Miyako get along! He’s fine teasing her, having ridiculous siblings-like fights… But he also seems to respect her as well, and even care about her opinion when she’s gushing about Ken or Michael in front of him. And Miyako on her end, tends to care about what he thinks of her as well, and never tries to treat him differently – remember, she’s a year older than him! And if either of them call by something different, like Daisuke adding the ‘-san’ honorific at the end of her name, or her calling him by ‘Daichan’ (or, in the BR dub: “Dai querido” → “Dai darling”), they will definitely find it suspicious or odd. Their M.O. is just teasing the heck out of each other! Like… In Kizuna:

The first thing Daisuke says to Miyako once they meet in New York is not “Hello” or “How are you” – he straight teases her telling her and Hawkmon. And of course, she teases him back, because that’s how their relationship had been for years!!

Daisuke likes to tease her, as much she also likes to tease him – To be quite fair, everyone in Daisuke’s friend circle likes to tease him. They all love him to the bits. Even V-mon teases the heckie out of him too!! Though in V-mon’s case… V-mon is blunt and honest just like Daisuke, to the point he has no filter when he says things. Which could lead to Daisuke getting embarrassed in front of the others. But okay, Daisuke loves them all, V-mon and Miyako and everyone, so much he’s thankful for their support and being there in his life:

The Kizuna drama CD also has this funny cute moments of Daisuke getting excited for every suggestion given by his friends, and only at the end of the story he reminds them what was the purpose of this group trip. Not only that! He also credits everyone for helping him with valuable advice (which some of them said to not remember of it being legit advice lol) – which only shows how Daisuke values and treasures all of the five and the digimon.

oh gosh ok let me think!! so obvs i'd have to say the matches against naito and sanada at summer struggle and wrestle grand slam where they lost and then subsequently won the iwgp tag titles back. and thne i'll spew off a couple more below~

vs ibushi and tana at summer struggle and dominion. vs tom lawlor and royce isaacs from this year's g1 (21:00). vs okada and yano at hyper battle (1:58:40). and while it's not just zack and taichi, the match against lij at kizuna road (1:06:04) has one of my all time favorite moments at the end in which naito and sanada trick zack and taichi into signing a contract for a title match.

El Desperado and Hiromu singles match guide!

I think it can be difficult to catch up on old NJPW feuds, so I put together a match guide for El Desperado and Hiromu's singles matches, and the relevant promo and backstage commentary videos. I've linked both match commentary languages when available.

This doesn't include their tag feud, just singles matches! And I've tried to keep my own commentary to a minimum for the sake of brevity.

PLEASE NOTE - THE NJPWWORLD LINKS NO LONGER WORK! I will update the links at some point if and when it's possible to do so, but for the time being, they don't work because most of the NJPW World archive was wiped. Sorry!

You'll need a NJPWWorld account for most of the match links, but it's relatively inexpensive (around $7 USD per month currently) and worth it if you want to watch all the matches in their feud. (Be aware that NJPWWorld memberships renew on the first of the month, Japan-time, so it's best to subscribe on the first of the month.)

Mikami Kyosuke vs Takahashi Hiromu - 08/10/2010 - youtube link

This was Hiromu's debut match as a Young Lion. Mikami and Hiromu were in the same NJPW dojo class. Mikami had debuted a few months before him, and was Hiromu's first-ever opponent in front of an actual crowd.

Hiromu and Desperado's first singles match. This match contains a lot of callbacks to Hiromu's debut match with Mikami, particularly Desperado's use of the YL-style Boston Crab, and even has the same referee.

Prior to this match, Hiromu hadn't seemed to know who Desperado was under the mask, and Desperado had been pretending not to know Hiromu in comments and interviews.

However, Hiromu seems to have just figured out who Desperado is under the mask - he comes to the ring with his BOSJ book page on Desperado now reading "I know who you are, and I hate you."

An IWGP Junior Heavyweight title match, with defending champ Hiromu vs never-been-champ Desperado. The bouquet is a callback to Desperado's debut as Desperado, when he gave Ibushi a bouquet of roses and challenged him for his IWGP Jr Hw belt. The decorated guitar case is a callback to Desperado's IWGP Jr Hw title match against Kushida. El Desperado lost both of these matches.

I love all of Hiromu and Desperado's matches together, but this is one of my favorites.

After this, Hiromu and Desperado both went through some pretty major injuries. Hiromu suffered a broken neck in his match with Dragon Lee 2018. Desperado's jaw was broken by a punch from Kasai Jun in their match in 2019.

You can watch Desperado talk about the matches with Kasai and his injury here. Despite the injury, this experience is considered to be a turning point in Desperado's career and he references it frequently.

At the beginning of the tournament, Hiromu had written "I don't hate him now" in his BOSJ guidebook. In the run-up to this match, Desperado took this to mean that Hiromu was indifferent to him (even worse than being hated) and successfully antagonized Hiromu into hating him again.

A huge match in front of a big crowd at the Budokan. Absolutely one of their best matches together. This match won Weekly Pro Wrestling's Pro Wrestling Grand Prix Best Bout award for 2020. If you're going to watch one match on this list, it should be this one.

Ok so it seems like a lot of characters in your novel die sooner or later. So… which of them survives in the end? If it’s even possible to say; as far as I understood there are several timelines.

What’s your thoughts on the Aki x Yusei pairing? Or rather, their interactions in the series?

Why don’t you ship it?

I unfortunately don't find Akiza's and Yūsei's relationship that interesting I guess. 🤔 I never drove that deep into Akiza as a character and tend to use her in my writing in the background or support, so I never developed anything with her besides maybe being friends with Crow and Jack in her own way, lmao. But not Yūsei, who I also have the most difficulty writing out of the three boys.

I guess I have a hard time imagining Akiza and Yūsei doing things together, though that "date" episode provided great material. To me, Yūsei's mind is always wandering, code and engineering the bricks of the road to the future, and Akiza is always trailing after him from afar. Honestly, it's not a bad dynamic, but it's ultimately missing key components that I need to enjoy said dynamic, lmao.

Also, I had this one experience with a shipper that really rubbed me the wrong way, and the association persist.

What would have made you like it?

Nothing as far as I know. 030 I wasn't even shipping Faith before seeing Crow; I was shipping Kingcrab from the start, lmao. I love childhood friends who also antagonistuc and contrasting, so anything else would've dust in its wind. (EXCEPT for Kizuna, lol. It got better actually.) Even as Akiza's and Yūsei's friendship grows, Faith strings not a tune for me.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

It's a cute ship, and I appreciates all the art and fics people have made for them. ^^ And if it counts, I don't mind Faith (usually in the context of Kizuna)—as I said before, I crackship if it's horny or funny enough, lmao, but I can definitely see Yūsei genuinely loving Akiza in that way. (It's just that for me, it doesn't work out because they want and expect different things from a romantic relationship. I actually wrote a fic about it, lolololololol. Bittersweet ending.

Some viewers are worried for her health as there have been livestreams going on for a large portion of the day or until the early hours of the morning (~3AM Japan).
